my pyrenees is the same way. he hates coming inside when it’s cold, loves rolling around in snow, and barks at almost everything to alert us of possible danger
Was just watching this video cause I miss my Joker so much. He was born in 2003 and passed away in 2015. I miss him every day. He was the best friend I ever had and protected me many times from violent ex. He pushed me out of harms way seconds before a huge chunk of ice 4 feet by 3 feet and 7 inched thick fell from the roof. I will never forget my joker
I know not everyone believes in reincarnation but I learned when my beloved Daisy passed that we can ask them to come back to us and they will. She came back as a Pyrenees, hence why I am watching this video.
@Jackson Marchel It's a very long story that involves an animal communicator as well, but... Daisy came back as a male Great Pyrenees puppy and I have been keeping track of the behaviours they share and I would say the evidence is stacking up. I could write out the whole story if you'd like, maybe I should to give others hope too, but what I got from it was that when our beloved animals die, it doesn't mean we won't see them again or have to wait until we pass over to see them. I also learned that our pups are here to teach us about the bigger picture, not just the other way around!
monroe444444 this is a great story, i believe in reincarnation aswell, my golden retriever died at age 7 it was about 5 years ago. And i miss him so much.
My GP is only 13 Months old, he’s about 110 pounds now. He has a huge personality, and is very intelligent. We have a fenced yard that runs the along the sidewalk, and he enjoys sheparding people silently by escorting them as they travel along the fence, but, if someone stops, he will bark. He’s imposed a no loitering rule infront of the home and I couldn’t be prouder.
Our GP is so gentle and attentive to our desert tortoise. He even watches for him through the window and lets us know when he comes out of his burrow. Do-gee sure is a great dog.
When the grandkids were little and used to visit overnight, they slept in sleeping bags on the floor because there were so many of them! Once the kids were asleep Riley, our female, would go to each sweet face, putting her nose so it nearly touched their nose; she was careful and never woke the child; when she decided all was well, she would move around the circle, doing the same to each child, and the occasional sleeping adult. It appeared as if she was checking their breathing, and she dutifully made her "rounds" about every hour. She's eleven now, and what a very special family member she is!
Funny ...mine also...I have a grade school behind me...kids going past my fence...the only time she barked was when they were running or screaming...trying to explain that she thought they were in her yard as long as she could see you...we finally won some of them...I would have them let her smell them and talk to her...again...she only barked at the running and screaming
@@kalahandarablades2325 my Kizmet only barked at the hawk that would come around looking for a snack...I have lots of birds around...somehow she knew it was a predator...also barked at running screaming grade school kids...
I raised a Pyrenees with small children and was over delighted about their personality. She tolerated children climbing on her and when she’d had enough she simply stood up, the children dropped to the floor, and she found a place to lay where they could not climb on her. The only trouble with the bread is that if they are not busy enough, they like to roam. Keep them busy working. She was easy to train to stay away from chickens and other small livestock. Also they are extremely sensitive so give gentle correction. I once swatted my GP and regretted it because she became skittish and was traumatized by it. A mild scolding goes a long way with these dogs.
You are absolutely correct. I'd say the great pyrenees is one of the best dogs you can raise around children. They have an extremely good temperament with children and other small animals. They are genetically wired to be that way. Yes it's very important to get your pyr a job. Even a few backyard chickens will do
Pyrs are amazing but demanding pets. They are pushy intelligent control freaks who need consistent schedules and don't like being alone. They live to guard their flock or family and want to be with you always. They are dis-a-pyrs also. If they are allowed off leash in an unfenced area they will disapear and get into trouble, most pyrs don't have perfect recall from vocal commands like other dogs. They are the sweetest and funniest pets but only if they've been trained well as puppies and that's a huge job even for experienced dog owners. There is no way to stop their loud barking and you should not consider this breed in an apartment or condo or townhouse. They have giant thick coats and do not want to be hot. They do not want to go to the beach with you in July or go on an 8 hour trail hike in the summer. They want a shady spot under a tree or on the bed beside the air conditioner. The moment you adopt a pyrenees, you have actually surrendered your next 15 years to vacuuming every single day and picking hair out of everything daily. But they are so loving and funny you won't mind and will wonder how you survived without one until now. They will bark, ignore your commands, get crazy protective around strangers, dig holes, jump fences, counter surf and make you crazy and you will not be able to change them. If you don't have a sense of humour or moderately good coping skills, this is not your dog. Still the best dogs ever. 19/10
Suzanne Sexton That’s Amazing, I Have A Great Pyrs Too And You It Literally Feels Like You’re Describing Even Tho You Haven’t Met Him😂 They’re So Adorable 😍 And Annoying At The Same Time, Specially When They Do Their Own Thing And Don’t Follow Commands😔😂
My first dog I've ever owned is a pyr, and got him when I was 9 yrs old, I don't regret it one bit, he taught me so much pacience, and I still have him, it's amazing that I was able to train such a difficult T dog when I was that young, he's saved my life from depression, and suicide, I owe him my life, and id save him in a second even if I'd be putting myself in danger, but im glad I did research before getting him, so please do research before getting ANY dog.
I just got a mix of mostly Great Pyrenees and Akita , some Rottweiler and mixed bread too, but he fits a lot of the Pyrenees traits, especially the shedding
Mine is so friendly, he wants to make friends and play with everyone and everything. He patrols our fence, barks at wind, and anything that is moved by wind. He is still only 10 months old, and we are struggling with a few parts of training, most notable is that he thinks that he can stay outside even when we call the other dogs in. He would be outside all the time if he was allowed. He is a superb cuddler. He has the softest and most careful mouth of any dog I've ever had.
We have a Great Pyrenees who is now 5 years old. They are just wonderful and very loyal to us. We also had another which lived to 13 years . She was such a great pet and loved to swim. These dogs are really great for family and only shed once a year in the summer. Great guard dog . We have a huge area all fenced in and she loves it and can see us as it has windows all around. What you said is all true. Thanks
I have a Golden Pyrenees - she was a rescue as a 1 yr old. She is now almost 4. This is a great dog - very smart and can be stubborn. Issues can always be worked out with positive reinforcement. She loves to be anywhere I am. She is kind to small animals but is very protective. If she accepts another as part of the family - it great - but if not she will scare the bejesus out of a stranger. I live alone so it works for me. She is not aggressive on a leash at all. Loves the cold! Beautiful companion I love my Maggie Mae!
They are very sensitive. Never ever scream & hollow at they . Even raising your voice to much can ruin them . This is a very important point with them. Loving kindness & a soft voice can get you a long way with them . But scream or holler one time & the possibility of loosing them are very high . Please let people know this . Yes I do have Pyrenees.
This is so true! Mine has piddle puddle (submissive peeing) issues if she’s afraid she’s in trouble. It took a long time to work through that with her but love and gentleness definitely is the way to go with them!
My guy just turned 12 years old . He's the best dog you could ever have . Smart , strong and amazingly gentle for such a large dog . They need a lot of attention and are great members of the family . They almost develop individual relationships with each family member but love all of them.
Loyal, loud, hair everywhere, sassy, independent yet needy. They can open doors and give high fives. Children flock to the G.P. like moths to light. Quite an amazing breed.
Ours was part of our trunk r treat one year, called "Let's go Camping." As part of the decorations, he had a sign that said "Don't feed the bears!" The kids literally were obsessed with him, more so than getting candy from the other cars! Even the ones that were petrified by him and his size kept coming back around and eventually get close enough to pet him. I have a picture of him laying in the parking lot with 7-8 kids in a circle all around him. The look on his face was pure delight!
"Hair everywhere". I forgot about that. Even in the guest room she never went into. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at the filter after cleaning the bedroom one year after she ran away. She was gone but not the hair from the room she never went onto.
That’s my first baby in my thumbnail. He lived 12 years and he never lost even one goat. His mama is beside him in the picture, she raised him from a pup. My new pry is a blast and just one yr old this month.
I have a Great Pyrenees he has a lot of energy We exercise every day about 60 minutes. And another 30 min in the dog park 😬 he eats a lot of meat and chicken every other day ... love this video
AArmando Aviless my Pyrenees would die he hates it if I want to play with him more than 5 minutes. After that 5 he will flop on the ground and give a huge sigh
My female runs the fences for a few hours everyday. If I go outside to sit on the swing, she runs the entire time I’m out there. When she enters the house at night, first she makes sure nobody has left her a snack on all the counters and table, then she looks at me for food. Every even day she eats a large pepperoni pizza, and odd days she eats 3 quarter pounders with cheese with unlimited dog food. She is skinny as a rail and will not gain weight. She is 98lbs.
Just after Christmas a friend of mine found gp puppy out in a snow storm far from any houses so he stopped and opened his back door to his truck and the pup just jumped right in curled up and went to sleep. He then brought it to my house and I put a post on fb and such but nobody has tried to claim him and where my oldest son fell in love with him and has been calling him buzz. He has been an amazing addition to our home.
I have 4 that are in 2 fields with my goats. They are laid back during btge day but wide open all night long. 2 bears and a coyote were killed within a quarter of a mile from our house. I know that they protected our herds. They are so protective of the newborn babies. They imprint on them as soon as they are born. I've watched them allow the baby goats to jui all over them. And they will lay there and allow them to jump on them and then suddenly jump up and chase them for a while. They are worth there weight in gold. If part of the herd is in the field and any in the barn, they will split up responsibilities. One will stay with the herd in the field and the other will stay in the barn. Love these dogs!
Fostering one right now in Miami! 53 years of Golden Retrievers....empty home until yesterday when my son rescued one on the street! Your video so far is spot on...
My first Pyr, Susie, was an absolute foster failure. She had 3 legs and ran like the wind! I had 5 dogs at the time and one could be very aggressive. Susie walked in and very quietly and effectively ruled the roost. My aggressive fellow Bruno was like putty in her "hands." He let her rule and followed her lead. What an amazing girl..She's always always in my heart. She lived to be 11. I got her when she was 6. Once I was fortunate enough to be "owned" by a Pyr, I could never be without one. I now have two on my farm -- Sophie and Clyde. They've pretty much eliminated the coyotes from our area. Such incredible loves. Sophie seems to be the head of the pack (I also have two ankle-shredders..lol) and Clyde is an absolute goofball at 8 months old, gangly and uncoordinated and endearing as can be. It's wonderful to read the stories here. I look forward to reading them all.
We have a GP that is now 2.5 yrs old, she was 18 months when we got her. She was used for breeding and was an outside dog. So when we got her there was lots of learning, but she is great and has adapted to house dog perfectly. We could t be more happy with her. She is a wonderful addition, gentle but very protective. She is a great dog. We are lucky to have her
I was given a great pyrenees/ pit bull cross breed after getting the word out that I was looking for a larger dog to help protect my jack Russell that had been attacked by the neighbors great dane. Hes super protective, loving, stubborn, intelligent, strong willed, obedient and full of life. Love my dog. This video is spot on when they said that this dog needs a strong owner. My first dog but I have a good understanding of what kind of owner this dog needs me to be for him.
I'm on year 2 with my first Pyr. Outstanding pooch!!! He's ever watchful to a fault, especially on walks....ugh.... And saying they're difficult to train is an understatement, we worked it out though and he's a damn good boy. He's known as "The Big White Dog of the Neighborhood"....I love it. Oh, and he's a total chick magnet.....hahahaha:) Nice video! :)
Once they get into that 3year old stage they calm way down. Especially if you've taken the time to work with them. Mine will forever have his own mind, but I wouldn't ask for anything different. He has great judgment.
I have 2 pyrs , and I absolutely love them. I’ve had 4 of them before and they were great dogs. It’s better if you have at least 2 of them to entertain each other. Then they aren’t so demanding. Mine are 2 yrs old and the best dogs ever!
I’ve had my Shea for 8 years, she’s nine now. Biggest fluff ball you’ll ever meet. The kids in my neighborhood call her the “marshmallow dog”. Bestest most loyal dog a human could ever ask for
I have a 1 year old Great Pyrenees named Bruno. He is one of the best dogs I have ever seen. He trains pretty well other than being trained to be calm around my animals
So different from other dogs. They have an unique personality that anyone who has ever had one will tell you it’s wonderful. So intelligent and so full of love. If you can’t be with them every day do not get one. They are very depressed when they are away from you. Once you have one you’ll never want another breed.
Ruthe Davis My wife and I are retired and one of us is usually with him. (5 yr old,152 lb Wendell) They really love their parents and want to be with one or both. I realize that can’t always happen and I we don’t live on a farm, but we live a few miles outside of town on a maybe half acre lot. I’m really sad to hear about a GP who stays in an apt. all day while his parents are at work. Before someone jumps on my back, please know I am really pleased to hear that another GP is being loved and cared for. What a beautiful and loving animal! Thank you. You can see Wendell on UA-cam, search: “Great Pyrenees-Wendell “. May God bless the Great Pyrenees.
I have 4 of them 3 boys and one girl Zeus Thor Oden and Athena. They are big baby’s but will protect! Love cuddles 😂 but in all really good family dogs
I love this type of dog, I have 2 of them, they are just one year old. Having had a Great Pyrenees before, I can say this info is right on! Thanks for the fresh reminders! I definitely enjoyed your video, and thanks for sharing!
I have an eight month old Pyrenees. It's 3:24 am. He just finished his nightly patrol of our apartment in which he went out to the kitchen, pushed around the water bottle till I refilled his bowl, dropped some sticks on the hardwood, tried to persuade me to play with him, chewed up the sticks on my yoga mat, and finally came back to bed. Now he has crashed again and I am wide awake watching Pyrenees videos and wondering why I had never heard of nocturnal dogs before. (I have had many dogs and except for a Rottweiler Lab cross, they were all union dogs who went off duty at night: ) But even the Rotti Lab slept all night unless there were raccoons outside.
When my pyr was a puppy she would wake me up every morning at 4am 😩 we've taught her to sleep in for the most part, but there's still some days where we'll get woken up by her breathing on us in the middle of the night.
I love my Great Pyranees/Antolian Shephetd cross! He has been trained to be my PTSD Service dog after 11 years with the Department of Defence/USAF. Wouldn't know what I would do without him!
My Anatolian is my PTSD dog, too, though he mostly trained himself. I think it’s the incredible sensitivity and responsiveness of the Anatolian and other LGD breeds. He’s an amazing helper to me.
My family had one who passed about a decade ago. We are still finding his fur. Here's some extra observations that weren't on the list and some reinforcement to some already listed. 1. they are really really smart. Pyrenees need A LOT of space. They think that everything they see is their territory and they have a very large memory, making their rememberable territory up to around a mile or so. 2. they are really smart. Ours got out of our house and roamed our town many times. We always had to go on a search for him before we finally were able to bring him home. So we put up a six foot chainlink fence. He kept getting out by testing the fence for weak points and wiggling under them. So we patched all the weakspots. HE JUMPED THE FENCE. THE SIX FOOT FENCE. like, with his paws. 3. Fur Fur everywhere. They need constant grooming or you're going to have fur everywhere. It also doesn't take no 30 minutes, ours didn't like getting groomed so it took our vet all day. 4. Kids can't walk them. They will charge whatever threat they think they see, meaning the suv driving by or the bunny on the yard. I was 13 and he dragged me through the mud towards a suv that almost killed him. 5. Gentle. A cat was chasing a baby bunny while i was taking him out to potty and ran straight to our pyrenees. they both froze in they're tracks as our gentle giant laid down with the baby bunny in between his arms as he stared at the cat. The cat bounced. 6. Guards. On farms they're also known as wolf killers. Overseas there are literally signs that say "beware of guard dog he sees you." Basically if they deem you a threat you're dead. They were known for chasing down wolves and dragging their corpses all the way back to the owner to show he did his job. Or not coming back due to dying in the fight. Overall great breed that needs a lot of room. Great as a sheep or farm dog but not in the city. You'll watch them slowly die of sadness if you coop them in the house all day.
Escape artist. People forever telling me how gorgeous she is. Will not come back if she is left off leash. Gentle giant is a well deserved name. Children all love her and she is loving and patient with them. Not for a first time dog owner. Demanding.
well, and still here I am, first time dog owner and so happy with her! She needs independence, so do I, she needs 2 hours of walking, so do I, half an hour of playing - count me in. Also food games, yay. And cuddling at night. we both dig that. My advice would be to get a vet insurance as everything is more expensive with a biggy .
I love my GP. I wasn't consistent on training and the only issue I have is he doesn't like other dogs. He only jumps on me (because I let him) He's so gentle with my 5 year old. He's been an outside dog most of his life and we decided to start letting him come inside whenever he wants and he does amazing. Super proud of him
I will own this breed for as long as I own dogs. The absolute best temperament for grandkids and young kids. Plus the best companion you can have for protection. Training isn’t as hard as the video says, my is a free thinker and I allow her to do just that.
My Pyrenees is so gentle, kind, and sweet. ONLY barks to alert of anything suspicious. Other than that, never makes any noise! He’s as quiet as a mouse.
good list; my Pyr does, however, sleep at night and has been trained to sit and shake, but thats about it. You can forget about fetch. They like to patrol, and explore. Best disposition and intelligence of any dog I've ever had. He also tells time. Really.
Super intelligent dogs. Not as difficult to train as people try to say they are. Stubborn? Yes. The key is a strong willed owner who can be consistent and committed to the training regiment. Beware of their tendencies to roam though. A great pyrenees will become a great disappearanese if given the opportunity. Very loyal as is any dog... he will protect you or any part of "his family" to the death. Even a cat. If you are inexperienced you may not want to get a pyrenees. This was my first dog I've ever owned but I wouldnt consider myself a normal first time dog owner and honestly he was obtained to protect my mother's dog from the neighbors great Dane. He has done an absolutely fantastic job with this. I love this dog soooooo much. I'm so thankful for him. He has had a great impact on my mental health as well. At times I wonder if I'd be healthy mentally like I am if not for him. He is the best friend I dont deserve and the friend I couldn't live without. I love my dewey.
I have one that is 83 pounds and very gentle. He is seven years old . Great dog with children and very protective of me. He will get in between me and any stranger. He stops them . He doesn’t growl and rarely barks. But he will stop someone. I keep him inside because he roams when outside. Not good in my neighborhood.
Our Tucker is almost 4 years old. He is the sweetest, Most intelligent, gentle and protective furbaby I have ever had. He absolutely loves our little Shitzu and plays very gently with him. We have 7 grandchildren and they all love Tucker but not as much as he loves them. My absolute favorite thing about him is his sense of humor. He is a huge jokester. He does things I have never seen any other dos do. I am thankful he is protective. I know he is because we had a man from AT&T her and he walked in unannounced and Tucker cornered him. He didn't bite him but he scared the crap out of this guy. Finally my favorite thing, I have autoimmune diseases and when I am in a flareup and can't walk very well. He stays by my side. He just knows I need him. I highly recommend this breed. But be prepared to have dog hair on every thing. Tucker is also a slobbering mess. Remember Turner and Hooch, yep that's our Tucker. But I wouldn't trade him for anything.
Mine broke through my 6' security fence 5 times by 11 months be ramming into it literally breaking the wood and ripping nails and screws out. He protects my family from planes, cars, other people walking as far as he can see, birds 1 mile in the air and has a right and left hook Tyson would envy.
Try this, buy a muzzle if you are able to find one large enough , let dog bark a bit, say “enough “ while looking dog in the eye do this three or four times, dog doesn’t stop. Apply muzzle for ten minutes or so, it won’t stop over night but after a week or so when you reach for the muzzle dog will back off. If dog is female you’ll probably get a growl and a couple more barks, gotta have the last word.
I have a Lab - Great Pyrenees mix and I’m amazed how well this describes him. He LOVES children and small dogs, so much so that whenever we go for walks and he sees one he bounds towards them lol It usually freaks the little dogs out until they see all he wants to do is sniff and lick them
I have two five month old Pyrenees which I'm currently raising right now, and given that they're both my first dogs I've ever had yet also dogs I've gotten used to due to being raised around them, my motions of training them have been fairly mixed results.
My great pyrenees will wake up with me in the middle of the night and walk me to the bathroom and back to my bed. On another note when I was living off grid in an extremely rural area our "neighbors" had issues with predators (Grizzlies, mountain lions, wolfs ect..) Our dog made a good patrol in the daytime that even the deer would not come through our property at night. He is the most gentle with everything, and he comes by it naturally. 100% has a mind of his own, and will run as far as his eyes can see. He will climb a fence, but his urge to run was slowed down when we got a puppy. Now that he has a baby to take care of he straightened his manners out at his own will and will not leave the puppie's side. Anyone who comes to the door is an intruder until he has inspected them thoroughly. The first two year of the puppy stage was hard, but constantly working with him has made him the best dog I could have ever hoped for.
Fences fences fences. I've had pyrs for years and they will roam to protect what they perceive to be their area if there isn't a good fence to keep them in and they don't always just come back either! Also, some pyrs will take to people and some have no interest in them, they are definitely strong personality dogs!
Is noone gonna mention pyr paw you know once they've spent 20 minites barking at the butterfly that farted 3 towns over they then come and slap you senseless with their paws
Barks all the time: CHECK! Sheds all over: CHECK! Monster poops: CHECK! Great with kids: CHECK! Stubborn: CHECK CHECK! Drools like a dental patient: CHECK! Can't imagine life without my Pyr: CHECK!
When I give mine a treat he takes the food so gently it's like being kissed. No slobber no snapping. Usually I hate begging dogs but I want those treat kisses from mine. He gives kisses by touching his whiskers to my face, and doesn't like coming inside in the morning without a hug and a kiss. He will wait at the open door until he had gotten one big hug and a kiss on either side of his face. It's the best way to wake up.
Mine believes my property extends from horizon to horizon. Best dog I have ever had he is family. He also senses my mood and adjusts accordingly. Very smart dog
I've had 2 Pyrenees. I described them as little boys in a dog suit. The only down side is their 10 year life expectancy. Know it can break your heart but they are so worth it. They are so smart and loving. Surprising to some they eat little for their size. When I tent camped Jesse would round the tent several times then lay at the door until morning. 😢
Just got a Pyr myself and omg your video really nailed it! He is wonderful and everything the video says they are-with an exception in the barking department. He never barks. Not once yet. However, he is just a puppy and I imagine that could change over time and am stocked up on earplugs (my husband gets them at work for free all the time) should he decide to have conversations with himself at night lol ❤️🌙😍
my family breeds gp’s and they most definitely are hardcore barkers lol, scaring off anything outside of our fence while protecting our animals. i’m 6’6 210lbs and our male on his hind legs is an inch or so smaller than me and has atleast 40 pounds on me. fun to play wrestle with to see the strength :)
We have two and they are so sweet and kind. Mine live outside and guard chickens, turkey, cats and kittens. They bark heartily and when they do, always go look to see if there is an intruder. A wonderful animal!
I have 3 Pyrs. Two came from a line of LGD at 12/13 weeks. The last one I got is 7 1/2 months and weighs 94 pounds already. We got him in training at 15 weeks old and he is a very good listener. Go figure. He can do tricks too lol. He is going to be a therapy dog eventually. Such a good doggo.
I love mine his name is Bear why because he looked like a polar Bear ! Brought him home at 8 weeks old and believe it or not he is going on the age of 12! He is well past his life span so at this point everyday we have left with him is a blessing ! This video is spot on awesome ! He is truely a gentle giant ! And follows and sleeps where ever I am ! Makes the wife mad hehehe ! But the maintenance on them is tough if your a clean freak it’s the wrong dog there hair will be everywhere ! All in all love Bear he has been the best dog ever ! I’m gonna die to when he goes !
These are wonderful dogs but they do take patience and lots of love….. I adopted a 3 year old female Great Pyrenees last Summer from the SPCA and she is the best dog ever….. Now I will say if you don’t have time for the upkeep of coat and the daily needs of this breed….. don’t get one….. they love to be loved and enjoy company of other dogs….. so don’t have an only child and expect them to be happy while you leave for work….. I am retired and devote all my time to my DOGS.❤
We have a great Pyrenees mix that is 3 years old his name is bear stubborn as all get out but very loveable and really smart and we love him to pieces.
We had a mix between a Great Pyrenees and Bernese Mountain Dog. It was overall a well trailed dog and lived to be 14 years old! No health issues and loved herding and really liked small dogs too. It got hot really easy so in the summer this dog was nocturnal. I would consider it average at the guard dog role, but a work dog might be better.
I trained my Pyr to be a service dog. He walked by my left Sid in case I fell. He went in a personal airplane and he loved looking out of the window. He was happy in a boat. He went into restaurants and laid at my feet. He was awesome with my 8 grandchildren. He did not bark at everything because I trained him not to. As a puppy he ate half the house but we got through it. I came first to him regardless what other animals ran by. I wonder if anyone has had a Pyr that howls. I could not believe his 3 octave range. I also had a malamute and he put her little howl to shame!
I just had to put my 15 year old Pyrenees and Alaskan Malamute....to sleep because she couldn't get up anymore...She was quite the dog...I have an acre of fenced yard and she checked her perimeter every morning when I let her out...loved to hide in the tall grass and as a puppy dug holes big enough to plant trees...I had never had a Pyrenees so I got a great book on them...the empty space next to me needs to be filled with a new puppy...I REALLY liked this mix...she was an AMAZING AWESOME dog...
I also have two, male and female. I told my female she barks like a girl and to lower her bark and I demonstrated, and she did,, I swear, I have witnesses.
My Whiskey Rose means The World to Me and I appreciate her and in turn she appreciates her Momma! Since the day we got her she's been an Unusual Dog that seems to know exactly what I need ....... that being said I am Retired Fire/EMS after 25yrs Due to Multiple Sclerosis and Now Closest I have is actually a 🐄🐂🐃she is there every single time I Need her though she is My Service Dog and an Awesome one at That she helps Me get in and out of the tub and up down stairs and in just walking! I wouldn't trade her for the World! Stay Safe and Stay Blessed!
I got mine as a rescue from the ...well - pyrenees. She is 4, living on our 2 hectars, protecting a dozen adults and kids from wolves and imaginary threats. It's hard to keep her from chasing deer when we take walks. she loves driving in the car and is a surprising good swimmer, not long distance, though. Next training will be keeping her from chasing the cats....she loves to play with other dogs, even very small ones. she is fearless and very very gentle....
my 2 are awesome, I got them to protect mt chickens, ducks, and pigs and at 6 months she fought a coyote to keep the farm safe. Don't worry they are safe and love their jobs.
I protect my house from motorcycles as they drive by and I refuse to come back inside when it's cold out, especially snow.
Signed,
Great Pyrenees
That's so accurate! 😂
They also don't like sketchy leaves that pass by the house. But you got to love them.
my pyrenees is the same way. he hates coming inside when it’s cold, loves rolling around in snow, and barks at almost everything to alert us of possible danger
Lol!!!
Mine loves to eat snow 😅 she's so cute, but she also likes rolling in dirt and mud and sand, anything to get herself dirty
What a hero dog👑❤️
monroe444444 this is a great story, i believe in reincarnation aswell, my golden retriever died at age 7 it was about 5 years ago. And i miss him so much.
What a guardian angel Joker was. He sounds amazing!
Seriously thinking of getting one for my 5 acre property. How's his appetite? How long does it take him to go through a 50lb bag of dog food?
@@jdm_eh9367 Mine eats 1 bag of 50 pound dry dog food per month.
I have a 2 month old puppy GP full breed he is so cute
How many pounds does he way now?
Good boy
We have one. He took awhile to get use to us and now he's a big sweetheart. He is my favorite dog I've ever had.
Yes, they are great dogs.
We have a 1 year old female. Amazing animal. By far the best dog I've ever owned.
where did you get him 🥰
All humans need these dogs in their lives!!
@MrsMars yes. We have a male now also. Their names are Luna and Zuko.
Our GP is so gentle and attentive to our desert tortoise. He even watches for him through the window and lets us know when he comes out of his burrow. Do-gee sure is a great dog.
Mine passed away 10 years now, she was a rescue and we still miss her everyday. Best damn dog I have ever had.
ouch... 😟🧡 maybe you can adopt another one? (or not)
how many years did she live...?
🤍 hug 🐻
When the grandkids were little and used to visit overnight, they slept in sleeping bags on the floor because there were so many of them! Once the kids were asleep Riley, our female, would go to each sweet face, putting her nose so it nearly touched their nose; she was careful and never woke the child; when she decided all was well, she would move around the circle, doing the same to each child, and the occasional sleeping adult. It appeared as if she was checking their breathing, and she dutifully made her "rounds" about every hour. She's eleven now, and what a very special family member she is!
I love that story.
Too funny, it was a different situation than she was used too, time to to go to work!!!, Wow, they love kids!!!
@@timidater4803 Exactly. The grandkids were her newfound "flock".
Yes they were...and when their visit ended, Riley slept for a very long time.
@Anna B. I did. And we do too. Thanks.
They think that their yard is within a 5 mile radius of their house.
Yess
RC Ya if they dont have work, they will go find it, work all night sleep during the day but always on guard!!
Lmao yes
They love to dig a lot. Has incredible amount of energy but is a great addition to the family. Couldn’t ask for a better dog
My pyr barks when the wind changes directions.
Yup, same here!!! whats that noise or smell?? its not right!!!
Mine barks at the birds that land on the roof, invaders!
@@kalahandarablades2325 my Kizmet only barked at the hawk that would come around looking for a snack...I have lots of birds around...somehow she knew it was a predator...also barked at running screaming grade school kids...
@@kathleenorourke1541 these were pigeons... 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you, I am getting my first soon.
Very good description! In many ways the most frustrating breed i've ever owned, but they have my heart
My first dog I've ever owned is a pyr, and got him when I was 9 yrs old, I don't regret it one bit, he taught me so much pacience, and I still have him, it's amazing that I was able to train such a difficult
T dog when I was that young, he's saved my life from depression, and suicide, I owe him my life, and id save him in a second even if I'd be putting myself in danger, but im glad I did research before getting him, so please do research before getting ANY dog.
You built me essay
Thank you, for that important information.
My Pyr is the neighborhood rock star to the kids. They love her.
I have two and we love them. They’re big dogs but are super friendly and loving. They are so patient with little kids.
Great dogs for ranch life! Very loyal and just the best with small kids.
Your lucky, my great pyrenees is so lazy
AArmando Aviless my Pyrenees would die he hates it if I want to play with him more than 5 minutes. After that 5 he will flop on the ground and give a huge sigh
That isn’t much exercise tho
My female runs the fences for a few hours everyday. If I go outside to sit on the swing, she runs the entire time I’m out there. When she enters the house at night, first she makes sure nobody has left her a snack on all the counters and table, then she looks at me for food. Every even day she eats a large pepperoni pizza, and odd days she eats 3 quarter pounders with cheese with unlimited dog food. She is skinny as a rail and will not gain weight. She is 98lbs.
@@Anna-nr3up oh yes it is I walk my husky for an hour each day you don’t know how he pulls when he sees a dogs, pee on everything, and makes me RUN.
I love it! thank you for sharing!
We are lucky to have her
I once had a Great Pyrenees dog. From puppy to Gentle Giant he was the best dog I ever had!
I have a Pyrenees,and she gave birth today,2 boys and 3 girls.So blessed.
Oh, and he's a total chick magnet.....hahahaha:)
Nice video! :)
Once they get into that 3year old stage they calm way down. Especially if you've taken the time to work with them. Mine will forever have his own mind, but I wouldn't ask for anything different. He has great judgment.
They don’t really begin to mature until after 2, so that’s impressive. Patience and positive reinforcement are the keys.
Yeah, that’s called a teenager. Lol
My Nick passed away at 7 yrs old weight. 195 lbs great dog still have his brother Jack another great dog
Bestest most loyal dog a human could ever ask for
I took my pyr to the nursing home I worked 11-7. He would go into every room and make sure all the residents were okay.
I used to have. Great P. He was an absolute delight, and VERY protective of his pack. ❤️
Such a gentle expression! Love the eyes
Awwww they really are such beautiful dogs ❤.
The most stubborn amazing breed of dog there is. Couldn't imagine not having a pyrenees in our family.
I love this type of dog, I have 2 of them, they are just one year old. Having had a Great Pyrenees before, I can say this info is right on! Thanks for the fresh reminders! I definitely enjoyed your video, and thanks for sharing!
Mine is 3 years old
I have an eight month old Pyrenees.
Yup, nocturnal! And, you cannot change it.
They’re behaviour is so different from other dogs they’re almost like another species lol! But I knew that and chose my boy because of it.
When my pyr was a puppy she would wake me up every morning at 4am 😩 we've taught her to sleep in for the most part, but there's still some days where we'll get woken up by her breathing on us in the middle of the night.
In your apartment? A Great Pyrenees has absolutely no business being raised in an apartment. Animals are. It just possessions. Shame on you
I love my Great Pyranees/Antolian Shephetd cross!
@@zarahroth36 congratulations! An I.D. chip is a good investment. They do run away and probably can't remember how to get back. I miss mine.
I have a 1.5 year old Great Pyrenees. His name is Henry! He loves everyone he meets. My gentle giant !!
My Pyrenees is so gentle, kind, and sweet. ONLY barks to alert of anything suspicious. Other than that, never makes any noise! He’s as quiet as a mouse.
I had one for just a week shy of a year. Best dog i ever had! Scince her passing it hasnt felt that same. Miss ya cecil!
Thank u so much I just adopted Bella a six year old u answered alot of information I needed wonderful breed lots of love and definetly a watch dog
good list; my Pyr does, however, sleep at night and has been trained to sit and shake, but thats about it. You can forget about fetch. They like to patrol, and explore. Best disposition and intelligence of any dog I've ever had. He also tells time. Really.
I’ve got two. When I hear them bark at night, I roll over and go back to sleep. They are priceless!
In France We call him Patou ! Amazing dog ! 🙂
But I wouldn't trade him for anything.
i have 2 gp's , we live in bear country , we dont see bears anymore ...lol
Mine broke through my 6' security fence 5 times by 11 months be ramming into it literally breaking the wood and ripping nails and screws out. He protects my family from planes, cars, other people walking as far as he can see, birds 1 mile in the air and has a right and left hook Tyson would envy.
oh my, the tough paw love! does yours also slap you in your face when you rub his tummy? lol
I have a giant pyr/lab mix. Most loving and awesome dog I’ve ever owned.
oh wow, mine is that exact same mix. head slimmer, nose longer...and sleeps at night (lucky me!)
I’m about to get a boxer pyr mix! I’m so excited 😆
Beautiful! I have two dogs I love them very much, my fur babies are well trained and much loved!
It's like a herding version of a golden retriever. So cute!
We have one.. he will be turning 6 years old next month. Oh we love him such a gentle loving dog
I love mine but his barking drives me nuts 😂
That's the sign of a true Great Pyranees! Lol
They bark to alert you!
@@NBZW or here’s a tip, don’t get a Great Pyrenees if you’re just going to silence their barking. It’s what they do.
My girl hears a mouse pass gas 2 blocks away and let’s me know about it, so I just thank her. Couldn’t find a better watchdog.
@@D0CCCC dogs will also poop in your house, that what they do. There’s nothing wrong with training a dog, best done as a puppy though.
I love the Great Pyrenees!
I've got a pyrenees-husky mix. Such a majestic animal
On another note when I was living off grid in an extremely rural area our "neighbors" had issues with predators (Grizzlies, mountain lions, wolfs ect..)
Our dog made a good patrol in the daytime that even the deer would not come through our property at night.
Lol!
Soooo true!!!!!
Omfg this is so true 🤣🤣🤣
Yepppppp my Bumi just randomly punches me in the face if he thinks he's not getting enough attention 🤣🤣🤣

They are very independent, atleast mine is and i love their thick coat. And when winter comes its her favorite time to roam !
They always protect me
When I give mine a treat he takes the food so gently it's like being kissed.
I'll take two, please.
I have a Gr Pyr
He's a year old & 110#. Love love love my dog. He's all that was said & more.
Such a wonderful dog
@TmarTn2 reminds me of Koda 💕
We had a mix between a Great Pyrenees and Bernese Mountain Dog. It was overall a well trailed dog and lived to be 14 years old! No health issues and loved herding and really liked small dogs too. It got hot really easy so in the summer this dog was nocturnal. I would consider it average at the guard dog role, but a work dog might be better.
My pyr: "BARK BARK BARK"
Me: "Good boy, good protect."
Pyr: ""
I've heard this before, so unlike other breeds it's best to give positive reinforcement to the barking to get them to stop? I guess It makes sense.
We have 2 Pyrenees St. Bernard mix. Brother and sister but just like kids, completely different attitudes. Best dogs ever.
I also had a malamute and he put her little howl to shame!
ours howl at coyetes at night, ya its a wild sound!!
I just adopted a GP from a lovely family that could not keep him any longer. This is the best and easiest dog I’ve ever had.
I own 2 ! Wonderful protective dogs who love their family !! Very intimidating bark !!
God, Country & You I have two girls too! They have hearty barks for sure
I also have two, male and female. I told my female she barks like a girl and to lower her bark and I demonstrated, and she did,, I swear, I have witnesses.
What they eat? my great Pyrenees is very difficult to feed.
My Whiskey Rose means The World to
Me and I appreciate her and in turn she appreciates her Momma! Since the day we got her she's been an Unusual Dog that seems to know exactly what I need ....... that being said I am Retired Fire/EMS after 25yrs Due to Multiple Sclerosis
and Now Closest I have is actually a 🐄🐂🐃she is there every single time I Need her though she is My Service Dog and an Awesome one at That she helps Me get in and out of the tub and up down stairs and in just walking!
My little puppy is great pyrenees super active and loves to play most of the time and he like running.
I have a great pyrenees and she is a piece of work
my 2 are awesome, I got them to protect mt chickens, ducks, and pigs and at 6 months she fought a coyote to keep the farm safe. Don't worry they are safe and love their jobs.
My aunt has one, she is such a sweetheart. I was shocked when she told me she was still a puppy despite her massive appearance. I call her Wolfie.
