Nothing feels better than completing a Micro repair
Agreed! Great feeling.
And nothing feels worse than not being able to complete one
@@snippz_-loco-_2871 agreed 😒
When you cant afford it__
This reminds me of one time where a thin 12-lane bus on a transformer tablet snapped in half partway. Found another similarly-spaced bus and was able to solder it on top after carefully scraping off the coating on both, _and it worked_
Man paid 375$ for a broken steam deck when he couldve bought a new one for 399$.
Yeah so? Soldering is a very nice skill to have micro soldering even more so especially for tech junkies
It might have been the 256GB. It's a glossy screen so it's not the 512GB.
@@Spectron2077 I find it therapeutic
I don't think something broken should cost that much even though you're trying to learn or for therapeutic reasons. Haha
Ikr lol... it shudve been 275
Bro that rice size comparison really puts into perspective how difficult your job is.
Crazy. Well done
I repair hearing aids. Micro electronic repairs will show you what true patience is.
Lucrative? :)
Edit: Seriously, I'm interested. Is it lucrative and do you need special certifications? Sounds like a good cause (potentially "simple" work) and from what I understand may save folks a lot of money on buying new ones. I've heard some stupid expensive numbers just to purchase hearing aids 😟
As someone with a mother that uses them I must say. Sir, god bless your soul.
I wrote on rice once, can only imagine how much harder micro electronic repairs are.
OP any more details? Sounds super interesting.
That dude broke it then sold it for nearly the price of a new one. What a boss.
To be "fair" it's just a dead speaker
@@tydshiin5783 plus a damaged mobo.
That must feel great when you fix something that somebody thought it's unfixable... Mission accomplished 😎
Yeah, but chepaer😂
Anything is unfixiable if you don't know how to fix it.
@@AnekoF90 Learn and training!
It is. Recently fixed up an old Visteon Dockable Entertainment w/ GBA and its dock. Works like new now.
Computer Engineering
He definitely tried those custom SSD expansion on that Steam Deck.
what makes you think so? that’s an easy upgrade
@@imstupidbut I don't think you can destroy the speakers that way without some overheating involved.
it's genuinely super easy don't know what happened
@@vulapa yeah they shoulda just put an sd card insert since 1tb sd cards are starting to get made that can easily have been a great way to store hundreds of games on a lil disk
@@christiansantamaria7233 what if I wanna dual boot windows and steam os but need the space Ykk.
Great repair
I'm also impressed by the alien artwork of the dried super glue when viewed sideways.
Very nice
that superglue created some art right there looks so good
At first I was impressed of how you fixed something so tiny. But then you brought out the rice comparison. That's just amazing
I dont know if I should be impressed or worried that they manage to break something like that when replacing an ssd
how do you know it wasn’t water damage or something
@@imstupidbut water damage usually presents itself as corrosion. I think he slipped when doing something and his tool or SSD ripped the connector off along with some of the circuit board material
does replacing ssd needs a solder???
@@ChrisTian-sd5yq no, just unscrew the existing one and slot in a new one
@@AarieaaronFTW that's why I'm curious how they destroyed other components
Wow, I remember long time ago when I was watching your videos, I was saying this guy is only an assembler. No microsoldering no real repair how he got famous. I was jealous:). Now you do microsoldering like a pro. You repair nearly all the dead devices that come to you. This is the meaning of hard work. You are an amazing sample for young people. You should be proud of yourself. I enjoy every single of your videos.
Shopping for SMD components: “Oh for sure I could solder that!”
Working with SMD components: “Damn… maybe it’s time for glasses”
375 for a broken steam deck?
That's a lot
No it's not there 895 in au
@@m_rpuggles yeah but after conversion, he didn't pay much less than new for the steam deck
I thought the same thing. 375 for something that needs a hail-mary to function again seems like a lot.
@@Cimlite I mean it didn't really need a hail Mary, afaik the device would be perfectly fine (and boot up) if you used it with headphones and never used the speaker, or even connected a bluetooth speaker to it. It's still a tad too close to brand new pricing imo BUT if the device still worked with headphones, someone could have bought it and not had to do a repair
always a pleasure to see beautiful stuff getting fixed instead of thrown away
If I need to perform surgery on rice, I know who to call. Amazing work as always.
It's been out for less than a year, and the insides look THAT damaged?! Just what the heck are these people putting them through???
Some people just have no concept of taking care of their things. In their minds, if something breaks, its either the quality is dogshit so its not their fault or they can just buy a new one so it doesnt matter
@@Zack-fu4lo And then this guy will come and spend 375 on something you can get brand new for 399…
@@Zack-fu4lo Sometimes the quality actually is bad, like Playstation controllers used to break so easily just through use.
I genuinely have no idea how you can break a steam deck like that though.
The person tried to upgrade the cpu themselves and broke it in the process.
Thats still less crazy then spending $375 on a broken used steamdeck.
My brothers were big gamers growing up. I can't tell you how many controllers they broke. Episode 2 of Markiplier playing I Am Bread shows him rage-quitting the game by shattering his controller and it was not a surprise to me at all.
Props for fixing it.
Does now my mind how much people can sell broken things for. Even more so when they botched the repair.
*grain of rice appears*
me for a second: wtf is that
Man your repairs have gotten awesome good work man
100%. Rice for scale on more of these micro soldering jobs. The perspective is sick.
God bless you my brother that you heal and make a full recovery I’ve been watching more of your videos and I enjoy them stay strong keep putting that perfect amount of thermal paste on and I’m praying for you 🙏❤️
It’s takes some experience to be that clean on such a small scale. I want a soldering setup like that.
My hands are too shaky to fix stuff that small, massive respect to the amount of precision you were able to do this with
Thanks man, you videos make my day better
You're doing great fixing these "unfixable" boards! Congrats!
So much respect for people who can do stuff like this🎉
I would never..... Never put a super glue before checking if the thing works 😂
One drop of acetone would free it if necessary.
@@mwmiddleton and damage the board and its components.
@@MatthRrrr incorrect. Clean up with IPA and be done with it.
Bro, a few days ago I had to replace an smd resistor at work and I almost killed myself. What you do is amazing, great work!
I installed my own new SSD into my deck, it took like 20 minutes max and the only issue I ran into was my own fault: forgetting to connect the battery connector.
I feel bad for the guy but you should be more careful working on things.
It feels great to do board repairs like this, they can be frustrating sometimes.. but oh boy does it feel great when it works, good job my guy 👌
Ain’t no way the broken one has the same touchpad covers as mine. Makes me scared
The way the super glue set was amazing. Looks like roots!
Damn i paid 350 for a working one
I’ve had my 512 steam deck since launch and haven’t played it more than a few hours. Wish i would have sold it when I had the chance. Great fix!
this is why Valve discouraged people from modding the Deck, BTW 😅
Love watching your videos and videos alike. I’m just starting out and videos like this are an inspiration. Get well soon 😊
I really really hate that people sell things that are broken for such high prices. Like it's broken, it doesn't make it better that it is for people that can repair it...
@Mr.Dr.Prof. Stonerman and you can use headpones
This guy's videos helped me fix my switch replacing the screen connector
When I worked at an Aviation Test Set Repair Center I'd use new runs and scrape back the masked off area and solder them on and then epoxy the runs down after I trimmed them. Then I would mount the connectors and epoxy them down for added adhesion. Worked every time.
damn! 375 for that?
Literally bro the 64gb version is $360 brand new
He never said which steam deck he bought if he bought it for 375 then he must for sure got the most expensive steam deck
the precision you have with soldering is is insane
Steam deck is one of the easiest to replace the parts in, and the guy still blundered lmao
Nothing feels worse than not being able to complete a micro repair, nonetheless I’m glad you were able to complete yours properly.
It worked!!!!!!! Thanks mane!! U saved me I was about to do my 4th rma
I remember repairing a projector a previous owner broke. description was didn't turn on. Came with plenty of photos and asked questions, turned out the owner dropped it, and that is what broke it, so I got it. and repaired it. I noticed that some connections ripped off. was a simple fix of running some tracer wires. Used it for many years before selling it. it also came with an upscaling box which you had to use to use it.
You're the best man! Thank you for the upload!
board repair is really satisfying to watch, I don't even really know much about electronics and IC's.
Wow!
This is so cool!
You really got in there!
That grain of rice really puts things into perspective. I never really knew how small all of these were when looking at Louis Rossmann tutorials.
For anyone interested, that process of applying a “glue” to parts is very common in electronics. It’s process is called “encapsulation” and is usually done with a plastic resin of some sort. Surprised valve didn’t do it for this part considering it’s so small and delicate.
Next time you use the super glue try sprinkling baking soda on it to instantly solidify it and make it stronger. We used that trick to repair chips in helicopter blades.
Well if only i had someone with your skills recently i could have avoided a failed repair job for one of my older consoles that is now scrapped...this made me smile and i give you a like
As a software engineer, I freaking marvel at all you hardware guys. Cool stuff.
Fire as always
Whever you can get a UV light try UV resin, you can get it at a craft store in the jewelry section. It's my new favorite glue for rejoining plastics. I might start a join with super glue and finish the outside connection with resin
Pretty certain you could have gotten these new for that price during the one year anniversary sale they had on them
Assuming he bought a 64 GB model, that is.
I always find it impressive when people have hands so stable to do this kind of job
Legends exist like the unsung heros who fix these types of issues either for others or even themselves. For helping others but also keeping the culture thriving respect.
My hands are not steady enough for this kind of meticulous work 😝
That superglue dried looks like an Art
Is no one gonna talk about how cool patter the dried super glue form😮😮
Like a robot god with them fingers, the dopest stuff watching life be brought back into them
Top tip, add bicarbonate of soda to superglue like that, for a super strong polymer to be created and it holds 3-4x better than the super glue bond alone.
The seller did pretty good getting most of their money back but screwed up that ssd replacement royally. Working on and fixing microelectronics and surface mounted electronics is a real pain. Good job.
The fact that you actually repaired it is crazy considering how horrible it looked like
Eyyyy fun stuff. Love good bit of micro soldering.
That pattern made by dried super glue is a work of art!
You've got some steady hands my friend. 👍
The super glue looks like a mural of an alien in amazement.
I keep meaning to set mine up to emulate. Adhd and depression have so far kept me from it, but I will one of these days!
that dried superglue is a work of art
For sure planned on making content with it so it was worth the purchase 🎉
How do you get the footage?
The lens must be massive, and you have to work around it as it's rolling, use your own viewing equipment, and then preforming technology surgery on a dense piece of equipment made of hundreds of tiny pieces.
Bro came in clutch with this one
Get solder mask and a uv curing light. I use the heck out of it. Trust me, better than super glue and comes in many colors. Makes your solder work look great and is solid.
This is why I prefer to tinker with OC/UV before I mess with the silicon itself. 😂❤ That dude cost himself IDK how much just to try and get more storage when they just could've used an SD card. This is why I bought the 250Gb model, enough on board for one BIG game and a few small games. When they include an SD card slot as well I just wonder how much people are trying to save & costing themselves as a result.
People hate on SD cards until their device doesn't have a slot for them THEN everyone realizes that quicky swappable small form factor storage IS kinda good 😮💨
Wow, the talent u endure and hold 🎉
Good stuff!
i remember how weird it was seeing dry superglue up close for the first time, “like many little tiny fingers” as my dad put it
Dude’s really talented bro ✊🏽
Informative video
The design the super glue made was really cool
How did he do that replacing the SSD lmao?
Too aggressive with the disassembly
@@afurryferret I guess but I'm literally stupid and have changed multiple ssds lmao
@@ArtoriasNX why do you change your streamdeck ssds multiple times?
@@nAcolzmultiple ssds now just for his steam deck
@@nAcolz same. I've done 4 changes of an SSD. There is no way to do that much dmg. U just pop some screws off and a plate and bang zoom straight to the moon
Me: "OMG, what an idiot. Can't believe he broke it!"
Also me: Has no idea how to repair electronics
I got a good deal on one. Paid $375 for a lightly used 256g model. Been very happy with it so far.
I never thought i would see my steamdeck on this channel being repaired after selling it 😢
So since the pcb was broken and missing the terminal pins, did he just expose more of the trace by sanding back the pcb to expose the traces inline with the pcb terminal pins and solder the speaker connector directly to the traces on the pcb, and secure it with adhesive?
That’s actually pretty sweet. It’s hermetically sealed with the glue and now, one with the board.
We definitely need more people to repair electronics with our heavy electronic world
The real Question is, was it worth it 375$? I don´t know nobody who is paying this amount for a broken Steam Deck. You´re a hero.
Incredible job!
The pattern that superglue made looks really awesome!
I just bought a 512gb Steam Deck barely used off Facebook for $300 locally. Looks and works like new. Rare find
The structure of the CA glue was awesome. Why did it form those tubes?
The dryed superglue looks like The Scream by Edvard Munch upside down
You’re so flipping good I love it
Good job and you deserve it 👍
How do you know how to fix this? Was there a schematic you used for reference or did you apply knowledge that you already know just for that speaker? Repair videos always made me wonder
You have incredibly steady hands.
Nice work!
But can you repair a broken Mattel voicebox?
