- CRUISE TIP #20, BEWARE OF YOUR BALCONY DOOR.
One of the highest spots for injury on a cruise ship is the balcony door in the cabin. People have had arms broken, fingers lost, and head injuries by leaving the balcony dooy open.
Thanks for talking about this. It will be a very big lesson to learn if you don't heed the warning.
A truely valuable tip. No one wants a serious injury.
This tip should be included in the cruise line initial instructions, you hear it all the time ⚓️
A tip about the sudden door closing and the tip is a sudden closing. Nice touch!
Kismet!
Good tip.
Honestly I'm shocked that more people don't bring this up. 😮 Thanks for the heads up I'm about to go on my first cruise in August!
Never knew that could happen. Thanks for the information
Good for all to know. Also, leaving the verandah door open can cause more heat into your cabin.
Just a note that the video ends abruptly mid-word. You make a good point. I am unsure how to avoid the suction caused by the unexpected arrival of the steward, though. Also, I don't remember opening the balcony door turning off the climate controls in my NCL cabin? Maybe this is only for newer ships?
Great reminder
Thank you so much for this tip. Did not know this.
Wow, I didn't realize that the suction was so strong that limbs could be broken!
This is a great reminder and an important tip for those first time cruisers.
😮 I thought the slamming noise was the worst.... Never thought of that.
Yes a very good tip and being a Balcony cabin lover I have experience the slamming of the door and seen people actually hurt by them too. Don seems like the video cut off before you were done talking.
Great tip, thanks. 👍
Yep. Ive walked past rooms and you can tell the balcony is open because you can HEAR the wind vacuum inside!
Great tip!!!
I can understand how dangerous that can be. Great tip!
This is a very good tip.
Good topic
Also keep a towel on floor after shower, that is a slippery accident waiting to happen
Good tip, thanks so much
There must be a sign in the cabin as well to ptotect themselves. Good reminder.
Yes those doors can be dangerous, and they whistle down the hall sometimes.
Scary thanks for sharing this tip
We found this out the hard way. We had clothing and papers everywhere. Lol 😂
Yes we need to be careful with that
great tips
Thank you for the tip
Thank you for the tip Don. We're going on our first Princess cruise to Hawaii and it will be our first balcony cabin.
Hi Don love the Balcony cabins they warn you of this.
We like to have our balcony door open. We usually forget the first time and have the door bang.
Guess those 'infinite balconies' would also create a similar issue but less obviously.
Good to know
Great tip!!! Thanks for sharing
We always keep our balcony door closed and locked. It needs to be locked for the AC to keep working as well as the draft you're talkingabout.
Goodness didn't know that. Thank you hmm we always stepped on our balcony shut behind us because ac on.
Thankfully, this is never happened to me. Excellent tip.
I like the slider balcony doors as Royal and Celebrity has. I think Carnival has the dangerous ones- I don’t know why people leave them open- go out and close the door behind & enjoy the balcony! Don’t like the new infinity cabin balcony’s on Celebrity Edge Class- it’s like a big window and the extra space to us does not equate to a true balcony!!
We once got knocked over in a hallway when a door blew open into a hallway!
The breeze is so nice though! Lol
Good tip
This should be in the safety talk and the industry should move to sliding doors.
Fingers severed? Oh my. I always shut the door re: the suction and need my A/C.
Keep up the good work!
We only had to remember it can become a air tunnel
Yea i've been surprised by this from time to time
What percent of cruise lines have the regular door as opposed to the sliding door?
What happens with those Windows on Royal Caribbean? You have to open them, you don't have a door.
Yikes!
Another great tip. Thanks Don.
Well, it's only green (and common sense) that your A/C or heat would turn off when your balcony door is left open. Leaving your cabin exposed to the outside air would defeat the purpose of having A/C or heat since it would blow straight out, right? 🤨
You got cut off again, Don!!
How does this work with the infinite balconies on Edge class ships?
What happens in the cabins with the “infinity balcony” on Celebrity and RC?
Don: You're videos are cutting out early!
He left his balcony door open
Great reminder. I'm always nagging my husband about this!
I don’t get a balcony
That's something the ship should be telling passengers at the get-go.
