Have you contacted Amazon regarding the knockoffs?
I think Rinnie Traps should steal the metal design, just for good measure.
Yes and add in a little window of some sort in the lid to see if anything caught.
😂👍
These traps work well with mice, but the rats chewed through the plastic hood on the trap and got all the peanut butter and cinnamon mix. Which totally destroyed the traps. So these metal traps appear larger and may work for the rats.
Well, you know the answer? get a rat trap.....
@@muskokamike127or get the metal one
Your humility for showing both is outstanding sir. True integrity not seen today! God Bless
The fact that the copy is made of metal actually makes it much more durable. I've seen amazon reviews for the original Flip N Slide mousetrap where people had experienced issues with mice chewing the plastic-made original/authentic traps & completely destroying them. Luckily, with the metal, mice and other rodents won't be able to chew it at all. I think the original Flip N Slide should've been made of metal to start with.
Waaaay more expensive to make it out of metal as a start-up product, but now that they know it works, they could make an upgraded version out of aluminum sheeting or something.
And the plastic bucket is not an issue when you have a metal top???
@@Snarkbarrodents will chew through aluminum

Nothing Like an honest review, even for the copies. I love it. Thanks so much, of course always purchase the original.....
Plastic seems like it be a little more slippery than metal also and less noise to scare other mice in area.
Good point
Thanks for another great video! I think an automotive episode would be very helpful - how to look for mouse evidence in your car (like random fluffy balls of insulation), where do they go, what is the typical damage they inflict, and most of all the best ways to get rid of them, or repel them (does the cut up bar soap method keep them away like my mechanic told me?). Thanks again for your hard work!
He made something like that years ago. I think he tested some repellant in the video.
I'll have to do a search for that, I probably watched it and forgotten all about it with my senior brain!
Thank you for the video Shawn.. they are always very interesting to watch.
Hey Shawn! I just received the Flip N Slide off of the Rinne website, Can’t wait to set it up!
I bought one a while back from your site. Nice piece works fantastic
fred there at the end wanted to go back in the metal slip'n slide.
The original flip and slide caught 46 mice through the fall right next to the house but did not hold up well in the outdoors in Minnesota the plastic became very brittle , a lot of money for inferior plastic for 4 months of use September October November December.
I think I'll try the metal one and see if it holds up better in Minnesota.
sounds like the plastic isn't resistance enough to weather and UV?
been using the plastic one for mice. i dont have rats but for mice the plastic version has been working well for over a year. very quick easy catches with ease to apply sticky baits.
I will say, the plastic one flips faster, the metal one seemed to tip slower.
But the heavier metal will make it even harder for the mice to back out to the balance point once the metal is in the tipping motion. Pros and cons for both, but in the end both had 100% success ratio.
It's like the old saying... "Steal a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door."
Got the real deal Dizzy Dunker from your link delivered yesterday. Beautiful thing, always worth getting the real deal folks!
What I found works great was…. I sprayed rain-x for cars on the flipper to make is more slippery. Might also work great on the metal one. Although my plastic one did fade and became brittle after a hot summer outside. I hate to say it but i might have to try the metal one.
Thank you shawn!
Another great video.
I wonder if, in the dead of winter, in an unheated shed or barn, the cold feel of metal under their paws, would deter the mice from exploring their way into the trap.
Very fair minded of you to show a competitor's knock-off that does almost as well as your original. JD
Thanks Sean love your videos like always,😮 what if they were homing mice they come back to your place they know their way ,just like pigeons😅😊
Good work Crawdaddy.
When your real hungry you stop at the first feeding station you come to. Is it a drive thru? Nope, we get to eat in the dinning hall with the nice glass windows.
Overtime, the metal could get rusty and make the hinge stuck.
Gotta admit I like it, reminds me of old fashioned tin toys.
There’s a shop good at metal dies and coating, and they needed to make something. It’s not a bad thing, unless you invested in the molds to make the plastic version.
How far out do you take the mice for release?🤔🤔🤔
How do you clean your traps and cages after they have been used in the barns?
Pressure washer
Often a trap that works great in a low food environment, will suck in someplace like a garden with tons of food. I used one, No luck at all.. not even 1. I had both mice and rats in my garden. Snap straps and cage traps caught many.. for me.. Because there was easier food in the garden, they didn't have to go searching for food on the top of a bucket.
The one deer mouse had like a 12” vertical 😂
Shawn, you got me. This being April 1, and seeing almost all of the mice going up the ramp to your trap...I thought for certain you were off camera feeding the mice up that ramp. Sorry for underestimating your principles.
The mice probably prefer walking on plastic instead of cold metal as well
I have to say that the sound of the metal trap closing is almost as satisfying as the sound of a snap trap. 💪😎👍 Maybe most went into the original because they are following a phenomenon trail?
Great video keep them coming. I like your version a lot better. Are you still doing any of the survival videos. I've been trying for last 6 months to make an atlatl. All the ones that I made didn't work so well I was wondering if you would be able to take him to show how to make one and use one. That's if you've ever looked into them.
It's not obvious to me that metal is better than plastic in this case. Metal rusts, especially since mice will be peeing on it. Plastic when inside can last decades.
This!
U expect to be using mouse trap for decades? Do u also plan to have it included in your testament?
Mice and rats have been documented chewing through the plastic version to get to the bait. That's why metal is better in this case.
We couldn’t agree more 😃
@@robertkalinic335 I've got 30 year old mousetraps I'm still using. I don't know why I'd buy new ones.
The hood and base being metal is good, but the metal flap is heavier, thus has more inertia and flips slower.
The best design would have a fast flipping light plastic flap, and a metal base and hood.
I wonder if the metal trap is too cold and it deters them from feel alone...
I miss the old videos of primitive traps and archery
Hey Shawn why don't you sell clear 5 gallon plastic buckets?
I would imagine the cold metal on their feet was not as inviting as the plastic.
Should have stated the price comparison.
Metal is better- I had three of your plastic traps and had two break; one had the balance flipper break at the side tabs making it unusable. Two had the ramp tabs break when I went to take the lids off. Was able to fix the ramps. Was able to catch over 15 mice in my sheds though.
How did the flipper break in that way?
I would love to see more device tests with rats. Rats are larger and significantly smarter than mice. Rats are my enemies!
Would a scaled up version of the Dizzy Dunker be the best rat trap?
I always enjoy new MousetrapMonday editions!
Show them the owl decoy before taking the lid off.
The metal one seems heavier which makes it take longer to tilt and recover
HI SHAWN,
small suggestion for a normal standard mouse trap...
put the peanut butter on the bottom of the bait lid as a trial, compared to the top part?
(sorry for the shouting, it was just to get your attention 🪤)
What’s your go to bait for mice that absolutely works.
Shawn has a video on this called Mousetrap Bait Test. TL;DR peanut butter and sunflower seeds
How do you separate the native from the invasive species?
Even though its a chinese stolen ripoff, i really appreciate the honest review.
I own the genuine trap and its great. I dont think being made of metal would be an improvement
Interesting. One would think that it's more expensive to make that trap out of metal. Certainly it is never going to get chewed up! I admire your commitment to ecology, but I'm afraid I use snap traps on the native deer mice that get into my house from time to time. At least I put the victims out near the woods, so they likely don't got to waste.
He does it so youtube doesn't demonetize him
Despite the raw material being more expensive than plastic. Making that trap of sheetmetal will initially be cheaper.
The stamping dies and machine to make those parts is comparatively cheap compared to the injection moulding dies and machinery to make the plastic counterpart.
But plastic moulding is much cheaper once the production numbers justify the initial higher machinery costs.
I bought the original flip and slide. I put it in my garage and used a wyze camera to monitor and the mice are WAY smarter than yours because as soon as they got on top of the bucket they avoided the ramp at all costs . I caught all my mice with snap traps or 8x5 sticky trays
Interesting.
Do you think they may be picking up on slight movements of the dump ramp?
@@CNCmachiningisfun I dunno maybe city mice are more timid and careful.
@@mib20000
Good point.
It would be interesting to study their ways, and create the perfect trap :) .
STAMPEDE!!!
Original is still better. The heavier the slide the less affect the weight of the mice have on it and it will tip slower. That's prolly why your pet mouse was able to find the balance point. It had time to shift its weight back and stop it from tipping.
I have had the original flip and slide for 2 years and have never had a mouse even touch it. I always set them up in front of cameras so I see the mice but they have zero interest. I use peanut butter up the ramp and on the flipper.
That’s pretty disappointing. I think it illustrates that no trap is a guarantee and each situation will require some trial and error.
I’d recommend deploying snap traps, glue traps, and poison to see what works best. With those you will have run the gamut of possible solutions.
This is a perfect example of the gov't NOT doing it's job.
If they have a patent on the flip n slide, all places selling the copies should be charged and all imports of the copy banned/seized at the border.
If mice ever learn the concept of teamwork...
Only plus I see is the ramp. The plastic ramp clip point broke easily after time.
It’s a weak link. I recommend taking off the ramp before moving any other part of the trap.
Assuming the plastic flipper is lighter than the steel, it will have a lower weight ratio compared to the mouse and therefore flip more determinately once the balance point has been reached - as demonstrated by your pet. If the enamel becomes scratched, steel *may* rust from mouse urine. Aluminium might be good as a lightweight flipper.
Dropped this comment on another recent ripoff video, but hopefully more coverage and all that: Add some gore aspects to your trap design. Emboss a skull across your raised cover portion or something. China actually has really strict regulations about "gore" in their market. Look up "terraria chinese version." Pay special attention to how the bosses needed to be reskinned to be less gorey. (Not that they are all that gorey to begin with but whatever.)
It might not fix the issue of them ripping off the designs- but it has two big advantages: It gives your products a distinct and unique look, and it should make it so that the chinese companies are at least delayed in production and reverse engineering. The big downside is that you couldn't sell to China then.
The CCP appreciates your hard work and determination in providing them with products to copy.
Well, you know what they say, competition drives innovation (do they say that? 🤔 Also, who is they?) If they stole the original design and made it better, maybe steal the stolen one and make it _even_ better; there's no reason this can't be a benefit to the overall design
I have two of each of the genuine Rinne designs. All of them have been destroyed, mainly by mice, also by rats. Plastic traps suck! Never again. From now on it's all metal all the way. I wasted close to a hundred dollars on those plastic traps. Thanks a lot.
I refuse to buy a Chinese copy
What’s the price comparison between the American made plastic one and Chinese metal one?
Human Rights
@@secretbassrigs Not a good answer. Just because wages and employment expectations are different, it doesn’t account equally. If the ones making the plastic American one are making minimum wage, they are probably less well off than the ones making the metal ones in China.

I wonder if mice are more attracted to plastic than metal. A lot of food packaging uses plastic.
I believe it might be the temperature, the cold metal could be more uncomfortable for the mice to walk on rather than the plastic

Let's hope that we have a change in November, that is one of JDT promises is to stop the intellectual piracy. And to tariff the hell out of stolen imports so that it's not financially worth it to US distributors.
Why not just build the trap straight for the rat? Im sure it would work for mice too. On the other hand, built for mice, not sure if it works for rat too.
Rats are more intelligent, larger, heavier. For these reasons, they usually need specific traps.

Unfortunately theres not much he can do about it due to the insane amount of them being made.
Even if he gets one taken down , there will be 10 more poping up somewhere else.
And its not like the chinese government is going to do anything about it either due to the original trap not being copyright protected.
Idk for someone who reviews and make mice traps. you got a lot of mice…

As always Shawn, gloves Shawn, gloves. Protect yourself and your family.
I always wear gloves when handling my traps, setting, cleaning them and when releasing…my neighbor said using bare hands for other than release is find. Has Shawn addressed this before? I have tried watching every video and listen carefully to them…but seeing him handle them tells me no gloves is ok. lol I’m referring more to transferring my scent, but I know safety from disease is also a concern.

5:24 . . . Well after all that you said I really didn't expect to hear that Native excuse!
Please do help the immigrant species too! coz all you said is right and these pests whether native or not, do harm.
ok this is either the most ignorant, brainrotting and lack of preservation post ever or it might be bait, you choose samsen, which one is it?
Natives are only pests on urban areas, they're established in their ecosystem and wont do harm and might even be protected by law depending on country or state, unlike invasive mice that are pests in both the wild and in urban areas.
I always find this argument funny. Either way, it’s a human values system in pursuit of human goals. Nature as a whole has no such values.
You are too kind sir for giving scumbag patent abusers such airplay week after week. Why? Cause Americans by and large (despite their big mouths) have proven that their true loyalty is towards the cheaper (Chinese built) product vs the made in America product (that supports American business and job)
Oh my gosh he sounds like a british person (yuck)
At this point you're making yourself lose money
Native mice species? You are too kind. They gotta go even greater distance from home. In the water bucket they go
The original did not work for me at all
Must not have kept it baited. A trap needs to be attractive to work.
My old snap traps don't catch mice, yet when I add fresh peanut butter they get mice.
You may need some o change the bait for the trap or the location of the trap.
Mice dont like new things so if you place it down at first it might not work at first, so I recommend you set up a feeding station in the trap to get the mice more comfortable being there,
Also along the way set up a station with a bunch of different baits such as cheese, peanut butter, sunflower seeds, etc.
These are just suggestions so if you find something that works better use that.
His traps have terrible reviews on Amazon. The traps are cheaply made and break too easily.

Why would you want something made of cheap plastic that will crack when there is a metal version available that is way better? Isn't stuff in the USA supposed to be built of quality?? China has this win by far.
Um. Why would people buy the ripoffs instead of the originals? Original is 20 bucks, Amazon will sell 3 ripoffs for under 25 bucks! Amazon is the devil
So you just killed your own product by showing that the cheaper more durable trap works just as well if not better 🤔
Yeah, list all the reasons why these are horrible for humans, and then release them so that you have a never ending supply for videos. Thumbs down.
He doesn't kill non-invasive species, lol. If the native species outcompete the invasive species, the overall pest problem is resolved since predators are able to bottleneck the native species to a manageable size.
