I" ve been modeling kits for almost fifty years now..! And as a kid l remember linberg was a great line in aircraft models..now those old kits are very appreciated by collectors..🎉❤😊
This kit even for its age is not bad. Would be nice to have on a shelf to see how models have progress from its early days of injection molding. The other thing is that this kit looks to be a great platform for some scratch building. These older kits were a leap from the wooden kits that where done from the 40's to the early 60's.
Interesting kit on a very cool looking aircraft. Mini Vulcan as I like to say. Next to the Skyhawk and Cutlass it’s the only other Navy Delta wing design I can think of. Early Navy jet designs are a great subject especially in 1/48. Thanks!
Definitely a nostalgia build and kind of shows the evolution of the demographics of the modeling industry. Seems like they designed these kits for teenagers and below, not realizing we'd continue building through adults, thus needing more detail for today's aficionados just wish they could have kept the price the same. I remember the go to kits were Aurora and Lindberg, and they were great weekend build kits. I really like when you go to these vintage kits, Brings back some great memories. Just think what we could do If we had current day materials. The one thing I really miss are the model display stands. You'd think that with the molding for super detailing today, they could easily make a stand.. Model on and Cheers, Bob
@@c123bthunderpig Right on, Bob! New kit manufacturers have to walk a fine line. They need to get newer modelers into the hobby (with inexpensive kits like these) while providing more advanced kits for more advanced modelers. I'm glad I'm not in their shoes. We do live in a fun time and are spoiled for choice. Cheers!
That was fun.i was really little when I built this kit.(Maybe 4?) I remember the look of the glue on the white plastic..lol Of course, now I need to chase one down. Thanks for the look,Jon!
Good day from Yuma, Az! Another fine review! Don't ya just dig the box art! One of the best thing about early 1960's kit's. I would pay good money for Tom Daniel's original art! This review kinda shows the progression of what's expected in a kit today. I would think a kit maker today would leave the pilot out sooner than include one as in this kit. On the other hand, the detail that is there is crisp. And very little flash. Just as you would expect in a new kit today. I almost built this very kit. I have too many kits, and not enough time! Some had to go! Another great review from Jon. What's on next Saturday's review? I can hardly wait! Thanks Jon. I'm clairvoyant today. I see blue plastic in your future, the very near future. Lots and lots and lots of blue plastic, a hurricane of it! Have a good one all, take care and ................................. MODEL ON!!!! Jeff
@jeffsmith6388 I just got the Hurricane of plastic you mentioned. I was blown away by the size of the kit and the crisp detail. Far superior to some of their newer efforts 👍🏻. Thanks for your generosity as well. Have a great weekend!
My brother gave me a Lindberg B58 Hustler kit in the original folded paper art box, were it's bombing a oil storage site. Perfect-mint box but missing parts which ebay provided a cheap bagged kit. Having said this I'm going to build it as a in flight display piece on a wood base. Good shape to the kit but ZERO detail so I'll work with what Mr Lindberg gave us🙂
Thanks so much for doing these reviews of old kits, Jon! I'm a vintage kit builder who loves trying to improve old kits. For example, I rescribed a Lindberg XF-91 Thunderceptor, painted it in NMF using Alclad, used Air National Guard decals from a Pro-Modeler F-86 and slung a pair of Genie nuke missiles underneath leftover from a Monogram RF-101 kit. I have this same kit and boxing in my stash, and you're inspiring me to build it as a prototype in Dark Sea Blue - but this time I'll leave the nice riveting detail. The issue that concerns me the most is the lousy fit on the engine inspection panel. If I can get that to look good, I think I'll be happy with the end result.
@tomtest891 That's so cool, Tom! If it's not too much to ask, can you send me some pictures of your XF-91? I reviewed it on the channel previously. You can send pictures to: jonsmotorcycle@hotmail.com Let me know how the Skyray turns out. Cheers!
Interesting in that my late father was a Plane Captain and later an Aviation Machinist Mate (Jet) working on the Pratt and Whitney J-57 engines on F4D Skyrays in 1958-1960. He was a member of VF-101 The Grimm Reapers (Which took it's lineage form WWIIs VF-10) aboard the USS Forrestal and the USS Saratoga. The image at 1:45 are two of his squadron's aircraft while assigned to the Forrestal. His F4D was number 107. He left the navy in 1960 and had he stayed would have transitioned to the F-4 Phantom. I shall probably look for this kit and the Tamaya kit for a memory of his service. Great video. I built a fair number of Lindberg kits as a youth, as they were great for beginners.
@davidlavigne207 Thank you. And thanks for sharing the memories and F4D history as well. My father was also in the service as an RF101 jet engine mechanic in Vietnam. Cheers!

The only Lindberg kit I ever bought and built was the Handley Paige Victor in the 1970's. It was such a bad kit that it made enough of an impression on me to consider Lindberg kits as garbage. Maybe I was wrong.
@montylc2001 I had a similar experience with their XB-70 kit when I was a kid. The F4D is better than that kit was. Most manufacturers have good and not-so-good kits. Linderg also happens to be one of the oldest kit manufacturers, so expecting the latest & greatest is unrealistic. Cheers!
Awww, I miss the kits of my youth with the movable control surfaces, retractable landing gears, and movable canopies.
