The Kakama is CRAZY overpowered 😱 Also, the temperature Pohatu reaches actually matches up with a statement he had in Karda Nui, where he says he fused the sand under his feet to glass! The temperature this happens is actually right around this point, so apparently he wasn’t just exaggerating!

This honestly makes sense to me. After all, we did learn in Swamp of Secrets when Pohatu was first testing his Kakama, he had so much heat from running that it turned sand to glass

Not to mention that he had to have an *even faster* reaction speed when running that fast to stay on a safe route and avoid crashing into stuff at hypersonic speeds! He'd impact with a kinetic energy of several 100 MegaJoules (depending on his exact mass), close to the energy of a ton of TNT! 😳

Growing up, I always assumed "maybe the Kakama just makes you weigh less and that's why it's only good for running not fighting?" ... and then the Karda Nui stories came out
Always loved the general design of the Kanohi Kakama, and now that I've learned its pretty OP in terms of speed only justified my love for the mask even more lol

i think the secondary powers of not causing sonic booms that wrecks everything around him as he goes is a bit more noticable than the fact he is immune to the negative effects of his own powers. man can you imagine if he just wrecked everything like a living shockwave everytime he went?

@@w9400wg I hate reacting to lightening as a feat because lightening/electricity is rarely ever shown to move at real life speeds in animation or fiction in general. Like, you can’t judge the character’s reaction in real time but then claim the electricity they dodge is traveling at 1/3 SoL when it takes 60 frames to reach the character. I just wonder if it’s more or less realistic to have the electricity move slower when it’s an ability or if making it travel slower would require even more power/control.

You know something I really love about Bionicle? The little inconsistencies that lead to insane implications. Like just today I was looking back at an old very early lore booklet. In it, it claims that the Kakama triples the users speed. And if we forcibly decide to believe both that and this, then that means Pohatu's normal base speed is actually Mach 2. And Pohatu was notable for being the slowest of the Toa without his mask 😂 Ah we love making things insane

Great breakdown, and there's something notable I wanted to add! In 2011's "The Powers That Be" Chapter 2, Pohatu & Kopaka see an incoming cyclone, and Kopaka puts up an ice wall to shield them. But then, "Triggering his mask power, Pohatu shot off toward the cyclone, vibrating through Kopaka’s ice wall as he went."
Uhh...what?? Pohatu can literally run through walls???
Not just walls, other people too, he has zipped right through Antroz.
Pohatu (and other toa) can only vibrate through objects using the Nuva version of the Kakama. This video was focusing on the standard version of the mask to get a base line. The Kanohi Nuva are WAY more powerful than the originals AND grant allies nearby the same abilities. (The Kanohi Hau Nuva can protect multiple people at once by a single user, for example.)
this shit is why the Kakama is my favorite mask. S-tier hands down. combine it's power with that of the Hao and you are literally an unstoppable force of destruction.
Greg has stated that the Kakama is similar to the speed levels of The Flash, as stated on a BZP forum. This very well means that Pohatu is be able to move as fast and faster than light which funnily enough makes him faster than some incarnations of The Flash. The fact his bare minimum speed is Mach 6 is impressive enough, like he thinks going his top speed is unnecessary.
Until 4:20 I was worried it'd work out as like 60kph but I think the figure you got sounds about right for how fast Pohatu was/is in my imagination.
If I ever finish my DeathBattle script for Lewa Nuva vs Red Tornado, I’ll be sure to credit you as a researcher. Would love to see a video about Protodermis and what it most likely replicates as far as real world metals. Also, I’m a dumb American so if you could just include the conversations to feet/miles/Fahrenheit in the text in future vids that’d be awesome. (I’m bad at math in my head and hate having to pause and run conversions because your pacing is good for these types of videos.)

I love this Content! This kind of sientific perspective on the Bionicle World shines a completaly new light on the Story. And I love story wich can be seen in many angles and ways wich you can share with other people and make theories and stuff like this! And I also always wanted to know exactly how to skale things like the speed of the Kakama, wich makes this even cooler.👍

So Pohatu is OP. I know the US air force has restrictions on where you are allowed to go super sonic, I expect hyper sonic would have similar restrictions. People tend to file complaints when their windows all get broken. Just by running near his enemies Pohatu can inflict a lot of damage, in my opinion it would be more than his elemental powers could manage unless he was very creative and lucky with the terrain the fight took place on. If he runs at them from a short range and stops just in front of them, the shockwave could be fatal for a lot of enemy types.
If your mask is that powerful, I have to imagine it's way more powerful than any other tool your team has, even just from the perspective that your mask has to accelerate you to that speed and keep you alive, cool, breathing and in control enough to not ram into anything. Any tool that can manage that should be able to do a lot of other things too. Twice the speed of the SR-71 is impressive, I have heard some rumours that Lockheed Martin might be working on a SR-72 that can go mach 5, so still slower than this mask. I think the Nuva version is probably a bit faster too. If they had written 10 minutes or 30 minutes nobody would have to explain away ram heating lol.
Didn't Pohatu plow right through a mountain or mountaintop meeting Kopaka in the process? While it does say something about Pohatu's velocity, it also says something about how sturdy and strong Pohatu is lol
Also I remember a moment in the Adventure books where an out-of-breath Toa Onewa points out how he'd love to have a Kakama lol
Can you make a video about the kanohi pakari? How much can a toa lift with a pakari or how powerful would be a punch with a activated pakari.
Pohatu's speed is truly amazing. And after all, writing off the results for too large an area or a short time will not work, because Pohatu really melted the sand under his feet. Still, it would be interesting to know the stone lord's speed as close to realistic as possible, because otherwise the unfortunate Makuta Taridax was just an excuse for Pohatu to play with him in Sonic Frontiers, if you know what I mean.

Where does the "under a minute" statement come from? I'm looking at the Bionicle chronicles #1: tale of the toa "pohatu - toa of stone". Where this exact feat happens and I don't see the statement. (Help would be greatly appreciated)
So, looking into this, it looks like I'm going to have to issue a correction on this video.
I got the figure from the Kakama page on BS01, which stated the "under a minute", figure in the example usage section at the time I did my initial research.
Looking at it again today, it no longer gives this. From the revisions history page, I can see the figure was removed precisely because it's not actually stated in Tale of the Toa, so it's unknown where it came from (most likely an editor error from whoever originally added it to the page).
Given the (thankfully properly referenced) other descriptions of the Kakama's speed on BS01 I think the conclusion of the video is still largely valid, but I guess the lesson here is to always double check the original source rather than relying on the wiki to be accurate...

Ah that's good to know I hadn't gone insane. I did find another use of the mask that gives a well defined distance and time frame but it's for the nuva version.

Before Kopaka’s eyes, Pohatu vanished, only to reappear a split second later. “Blocked by boulders. I know. I saw,” the Toa of Stone said. “Mask of Speed, remember?”
Kio = 1371 meters. Since Pohatu does a round trip that means he traveled a full Kio
A split second is basically anything under a second so we can just high ball to 1
Giving us 1371m/s aka mach 4, pretty close to the mach 6 calculated here.
