  • Solis Magna - the star around which the entire BIONICLE storyline takes place. Or, should that be the two stars?
In this month's investigation, we take a look at Solis Magna and see how being a binary system would affect life on the planets around it.
This is part one of a 3 part series diving deep into the unanswered questions around Solis Magna, be sure to stick around to check out parts 2 and 3!
New BIONICLE Science investigations every month. What part of BIONICLE lore do you want to see investigated next? Give your suggestions in the comments below!

Think about actually living on a planet in a system like that compared to the one we do now with our experience growing up in a single star system. That would be a sight to behold.

This is massive worldbuilding, I love it and am gonna use it in my post-Reformations canon.

Man this was really fun, I did not expect such an intricate analysis of a thing that barely makes an appearance in the story! Very well done, can't wait to hear what's gonna happen next!

This also assumed that all three bodies move on the same plane as one another. If Spherus Magna's orbit around Solis A had any sort of tilt, it would do all kinds of wild things to where Solis B appeared in the sky. Though, that seems unlikely given the seemingly stable offset of A and B in the two sample images used at 1:53.

Can you measure the energy involved with the collision of Aqua Magna and Bota Magna with Bara Magna?

Very, very good physics-based question. I’d love to see an attempt at answering this one!

This is a planned video somewhere down the line, but it would involve first working out the masses and orbital velocities of the various bodies - which are upcoming videos in their own right. But we will get to it eventually!

This is really cool, regardless of if people want to consider this canon, it definitely makes for a very cool setting for any sci-fi story. I’m going to consider this part of my own head-canon but I also think if I were to ever make my own sci-fi story this would be the type of solar system I’d have it take place in

    Two things:
    1. Spherus Magna having two suns could have been inspiration for the GBs to give the MU two suns (maybe)
    2. In Dragon Ball Z, don’t they explain that planet Namek has three suns, but they never set all at the same time so it’s always daytime? How would that work?

Nice video. I always took the second sun as Bara Magna and with the latin influence never even knew the number was up for debate.

I love the videos of the Knowledge tower. I'd like to ask a question that I don't know if it's video worthy, but that nobody can seem to answer precisely.
How much time did it take for the Bionicle story to end? From The Toa Mata's arrival, to Makuta's death

here's a good question, does the non-humanoid Bionicle have accurate bio-mechanical movement?
big fan of Bionicle when i was young, had the Mask of Light on VHS and Mask of Light Toa (?) figure along with a few others

The science in this is great. However I'm fairly sure that the smaller star here is the Red Star.. which isn't even a star at all, but a space station within the Solis Magna system.
In MNOG you see the Red Star through a telescope, not really bright enough to see during the day, despite it being in orbit around the moon you're standing on (Aqua Magna) at the time. But at the time of The Legend Reborn, the Red Star would have no longer been in a dormant state, and may have already been moving towards Bara Magna while attached to the back of the Great Spirit Robot, so it makes sense that perhaps it's visible during the day at that point in space and time.

I know that there are several solar systems / physics emulator games / programs, I wonder what the solar system would look like in said programs

This is great! On a related topic, do you have a stance on whether Spherus Magna (in its complete state) has a moon? Because in Sahmad’s Tale there’s a brief mention of “moonlight” being present after the reformation of Spherus Magna occurs.
