Wow, I never thought of myself as being a gun smith. Even though I have been repairing my own firearms for nearly 40 years. And in the last couple years since I retired from being a machinest, have been building AR's and actually hand machining trigger group components. I just thought of myself as a guy that is good with his hands. But I still have no desire to work on other people's firearms for a living, as I said I'm retired.

Hands on is the best training experience for almost any job. Also repetition is extremely important imo. I would need to look at my notes on certain firearms from time to time if it was an old or obsolete firearm that rarely came across my bench. When I sold a firearm to a novice and showed them how to assemble and disassemble an AR-15 for example. I would make them do it over a dozen times or more until they could do it without asking me anything. Then I would tell them NOT to go home and put it away in the safe until they used it. I told them to take it out every night after work then assemble and disassemble it until the repetition made them proficient at it.

Silly me! When I first clicked on the video, I thought that was Brandon Herrera in the center, but with a bushier beard. I see Steve & Caleb have their omnipresent coffee cups!

I wouldn't call myself a gunsmith, but I do all my own gun work, including making parts when needed, but I don't generally do work on other people's guns. I do have a machinist background from my younger years, and still have the tools, and don't want them sitting around rusting. Was hoping that someone would have asked if Caleb kids have mastered the use of hair product, and if they stick with dad's brand, or favor their own choice of brand.

Hello Caleb. just a quick question, if I may? I saw you a short time back talking about gun oils, lubes, etc., in which you stated WD40 is not recommended because it has no rust preventative qualities. Ever since I was a young boy, my Grandparents kept 3 in one oil on hand. In their household it had many uses, from Granny's old foot powered sewing machine to Grandpa's .22 rifle he used for "possum" hunting and at hog killing time! I've also used this product many times on my firearms. I'm wondering what your professional opinion is on utilizing 3 in one oil for firearms. Thanks, Caleb!
