I just commented that. It wouldn’t be a disaster unless you’re armed or land on Swiss shore with no permission or passport. The militant patrol groups themselves don’t know where the borders are inside the lakes, so they usually just let people drift around.
EU and Schengen cannot be used interchangeably, although there’s a large overlap. Switzerland and Norway are part of Schengen, but not a part of the EU. Also I’m wondering what language barrier they talk about in the part about Belgium-Netherlands. The northern region of Belgium, Flanders, is Dutch-speaking. You can clearly hear the difference between Flemish Dutch and Dutch Dutch, but we understand each other perfectly.
@@nicoleb7615 The other ones (who are EU members but do not participate in the Schengen Area) are: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Ireland. yes, this was one mistake in the video. the other one is at 20:30 -- Kaliningrad doesn't have access to the Black sea, but the Baltic sea. you should really double-check your scripts before posting a video.
I've been to Point Roberts! It's an interesting place. Despite being American soil it seemed like most of the people we met were visiting Canadians. The international border was an otherwise normal residential street; you could walk out your front door and wave to your neighbor in a foreign country
I think that in this context it doesn’t matter. I understand that schegan and the EU are different but simantics don’t help people understand things as well

I’ve always been thoroughly amused by weird borders, especially buildings or even beds and tables in two countries. I am definitely that person who would make all the lame jokes.
Tirol is my favorite place in Europe in winter. It’s so. So. Cozy and unbelievably beautiful. Everything just looks like a painting or some fantasy land. The food is amazing
I went to the area around Llivia last summer. I'm not even sure I remember going through the town, but I think I actually did, since we were staying in Puigcerda. To be honest, there's not even a "welcome to France" sign and you literally drive into France unimpeded on a small road that is ominously close to buildings. If this become a problem, it will be super weird, that's for sure. The only indication you are in France is the fact that everything is in French.
Though Switzerland isn’t actually in the European Union they still have an agreement that people from Europe can come into Switzerland though they can’t work or live there without a proper permit
Baarle Hertog/Baarle Nassau is completely bonkers. The borders cut right through shops, houses, several places where you cross the border multiple times within a couple of minutes of walking. Belgium side has a lot of fireworks shops which is legal to sell all year round while the Netherlands only sells fireworks for 3 days a year. There's a lot of lines for the gas stations as well since Belgian tax on gas is usually cheaper.
For anyone interested in #21 the town the library is in is called Darby Line, there if you front door is facing the American side, your American, if it's facing the Canadian side your Canadian. Was there for a class trip once, it's an interesting town
So there are two doors and not the one that Infographics says. That's what I'd always assumed. Were there government officials from both sides making sure you exit the way you came in? I wouldn't expect either government to pay for border/customs agents so how did they do it when you visited?
My town in the middle of North Carolina has exactly zero grocery stores, but it does have 4 produce markets and 11 auto parts stores... which means that you have a 20 minute drive for meat, and some how still have to order car parts needed and wait for 3 days to pick it up.
@@normankristin12 sorry that's the town of Granite Quarry, also sometimes referenced in the consolidated areas of Faith, Rockwell, and GQ. All emergency services are shared and so are most of the family lines... most of the people's family trees are lacking many branches for them to bounce off of on the way down.
Hey! Sweet! It’s so cool to see someone make a shoutout to Little Diomede!!! I have lots of Alaskan Native relatives there! It’s a pretty cool little island! And you can definitely see Russia!
Africa is full of weird borders. For example, Nigeria alone has at least three towns which it shares with other countries (Idiroko and Seme which is shares with Benin, and Jibiya which it shares with Niger). Or do we talk about the point where Angola, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe meet? Africa has so many of them, because of 1884.
10:24 Switzerland isn’t in the EU, and it also wouldn’t be a disaster to drift into another country in lake constance. The coast guard in either of the 3 countries will just pick you up in a speedboat and drive to back to shore. Most of the militant patrol groups in the lake just won’t do anything unless the person approaches worryingly close to the coastline or is armed because it’s a common occurrence for people to pass by an invisible line they were not told about. Besides, the patrol themselves don’t know where the borders are in the lake.
Saying Bosnia and Croatia never had good relations is utter nonsense and propaganda, it's the governments that don't like each other, people have no serious issues with each other and live peacefully
everyone is focussing on the Swiss not being part of EU but nobody noticed that Kaliningrad have a port in the Baltic sea, not in the black sea that's a totally different enclave of Crimea
ok.....so Kaliningrad is on the Baltic Sea coast not the Black Sea coast...it used to be Polish for centuries, then became Prussian and then Russian after WW2...Switzerland is not in EU

@@alylu5044 it's not Åland. It's different island both Sweden and Finland has claims to and has a weird border on it. Can't remember the name on that island, but it's not Åland
There are some huge mistakes. For example Kaliningrad is not at the Black Sea, it’s at the Baltic Sea. And it was not taken by Poland, it was taken by Germany after WW2 and annexed by the Soviet Union, making it a part of the russian socialist soviet republic.
Brunei is special too I guess because its split into two by Malaysia. Back then going from one part of Brunei to the seperated section of Brunei would cost 4 passport stamps between Bruneian/Malaysian immigration checkpoints and another 4 to return from the trip. Luckily in 2020 a 30km long bridge was opened to the public which connects these two sections of Brunei
