That's the first I heard of such a device, a sand point. I came from an area that had a lot of wells and cisterns. My in-laws had one on their property. It played out and they had to have a well dug. My uncle's farm had a great well. It was less than 100ft deep. It was great in the summer to have such cold fresh water.
I'm sure that this will all work out. And I understand the frustration. I pray that you folks will be blessed and am sure that things will all come out great.

Red Poppy Ranch I agree with the folks recommending surveyors to find springs or water sources on your property. I myself have to let frustration with a project blind me from the correct path before, and I think it is time to take a step back from the water problem and bring in the right people for the right job on this one. You can't do EVERYTHING everything brother! I love your channel btw you're a determined fella.

We use those sand points down here in Georgia but what we do is put a hose with strong pressure onto the well point and use is the water jet to bore the hole to get it down in the ground. Once we hit water we use a pump called a Bullfrog which is a diaphram pump that will suck up water

Great effort. Hard soil. Water is the most important thing to have. Everything else is second. You're putting your own septic system in that should save you some serious money. Hope the well goes to your satisfaction, I have a good feeling you will hit good water, plenty of water at around 100 feet or less. Good Luck, Vinny 🙏👍🇺🇸

I've driven several wells. There is water down there somewhere. If there is sand or gravel you can usually get a point down to it. I've always used a driver made out of 4" pipe with a big chunk of steel welded in one end and some sort of handles welded to the side. I cut my pipe into 4 foot lengths and couple them with double strength (schedule 80) well couplings. You use a length of the heaviest wall pipe you can find sticking out of the top coupling because whatever the driver actually hits will be beaten up too badly to use. When you get one section to ground level, add another and put the drive stub on top of that. I've hand driven wells as deep as fifty feet with casings as big as 2 inches. Never had one come up dry yet. Of course I was a lot younger then and it took as much as a week of constant labor to drive it, but it almost always works. Dowsing is controversial but I've never bothered. I just ask my neighbors how deep they had to go. The water table is usually pretty consistent in a given area. Long as you don't hit solid rock you'll get there eventually.

  • @bobcat1
    @bobcat1 6 років тому +4

If you feed a water hose with a straight nozzle down though the pipe for a couple minutes the pipe will drive down easily. When it stops moving do it again. will take several tries depending on underground. You will need a trailer with at least a 200 gallon water storage tank and a gas powered pump.

Dowsing (?), you can stand on the well site , think about how deep the water is, walk off, the wire crosses at the depth, measure how far you walked , you then have it.

I feel for you. I had to have a well drilled, My nickname for it is the money pit ! It ended up being 500' deep and the casing wasn't cheap. about $10 grand not counting the pump, tank, fittings and line they wanted another $5 grand plus to do. So I installed it myself with my Son-inlaws help cost about $2 grand instead of $5.000+. though they may give you a break if they do the whole job

  • @ldwithrow08
    @ldwithrow08 7 років тому +2

I've never had any luck trying to push a well with a backhoe. Usually you have to hit the pipe really hard. I've seen people do it with short sections with a jack hammer but the old hand powered sliding driver works best for me. It's really hard to get a straight vertical push on the pipe without bending it and snapping the point off.

  • @steveadams99708

If you use drive couplings, and a driver it should work. You can set up a tripod and pully to make it easier. Never saw any success with a backhoe due to the angle that it pushes on the pipe.

Sure must be a high water table for you to have even considered it. Our well here is about 600' down. Unfortunately wasn't 'witched' - neighbor has a well half as deep (~350) right into an aquifer - giving >10x the flow rate of mine. I would like to put in a new well but spare $20ks are just lying about. At least what we have works and water tastes marvelous!

Been down your road with the well problem. Witcher came out and said "25gpm at 320'". Right. Driller hit 1gpm at 500ft with arsenic contamination. Into it for $26K so far before the wiring, plumbing and filtering. What really chaps me though is that I have a free flowing spring on the property but the county says no way can I use it without a water right. Takes at least 10 years to get one...maybe. So in their infinite wisdom, I get hammered for $26K + for a low flow well with arsenic. Sure glad they're looking out for us and "protecting the environment" in the meantime I may die of arsenic poisoning. Funny thing is, they don't even have a rule on arsenic contamination. Meaning: they could care less if you drink it and get sick. Location: Stevens County, WA.

We put a 4" casing down with 2 - 2" pumps and then up a 2 1/2 hp submerged pump inside of the 4" casing with a 1"1/2 up pipe. They run 24 hours a day with good water coming out..... just something to think about

    I'm impressed with your dream...
and the making of it come true....
you have a spring in the mountain... she wants to bleed..
have you thought about drilling back into her... horizonaly..?
if i were trying with what I've seen you have and knowing your backhoe... _(drive shaft under the tractor).....
i might pick or build... or dig an area (pad) maybe 50 ft. away from your mountain.. with a downward slope into the mountain...
_(basically water jet into the mountain)
at the base where you want the seepage i'b dig a trench to a pit (large enough to use as a clarifer...maybe plastic lined to help hold the water)
i would try chaining you pipe under your backhoe... (using chain wraps, maybe 3-4 wraps around the pipe back to it self)....
one on the front of the hoe. one on the back...
    then... using a trash pump...
i'ld try jetting the pipe into the mountain... driving forward driving into the dirt.. backing up to wash out the loose dirt...
back and forth... using the jetting action...
if you got a good enought flow.. terrific...
my thoughts are.... to help keep the holes Integraty since i would be jetting on a downward angle...
if you were to pull the pipe out...
i would try blowing pee gravel down the pipe as i pulled the pipe....
having a mountain to work with..
i have always thought it made more sence to drill horizonaly as opposed to down... if possible....
    love to see your progress..
well these are my thoughts.. .

"witching" works due to the electromagnetic current's generated by water. it can also work well for other materials, but since water is a fluid, it works best due to the currents generated in the mobile fluid.

I learned a long time ago a few things. First, that everyone and their grandmother tries to save a few bucks wherever they can. And second, that when you pay professionals what seems like a lot of money you're not wasting money but you're investing in something very important. You're paying people with expertise, skill, all the right tools, and abilities to do something you cannot do for yourself. You're paying for their professionalism, for the piece of mind, and security that comes with that. In the case of drilling a well you're paying to have a reliable steady secured source of that vital life-sustaining resource we all need -- water. A good way to help justify the cost, also, is to look at how much you'd likely have to pay a municipal water supply year over year for several decades, add it all up and compare the costs.
