You found a gold mine. Get some for your own driveway, at least for the base. Can't beat that price. Sounds like you have good neighbors. Good Luck, Vinny 🇺🇸
Parts of my life have been a combination of hardscrabble and ingenuity because I wanted to push my limits and 'do for myself' rather than shucking out the big bucks. Your videos are informative, never dull and I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. You are a blessing, especially for the folks that think homemade comes in a box, cattle flatulence contributes to 'Global Warming,' and we're destroying the environment when that couldn't be further from the truth - you understand you are a steward of that land, took the time to study it and improve on its potential productivity without destroying it. Brava.
Wow, your road is busy in the summer, lol. How many turkeys can you take out of there in the fall? I was wondering where your neighbors were, especially the one lower than you with the nice spread. Then you said one helped spread it. A nice thank you gift for helping spread it will go a long way towards building a good relationship. You're going to be living around and working with these neighbors for the rest of your life.
Another good deal.. Yeah I couldn't figure out why he didn't dump while rolling forward slowly either.... But can't find em.. Grind em.. Explained that.. Once that rock gets ground into your roadbed it will be better.
A good rock screen would be nice and is fairly easy to construct spread the bigger rocks along the edges to prevent washouts and the smaller stuff in the middle after it gets rolled in. I know you are busy trying to get the house done but it is a thought.
i use crushed slag this year. was 200$ for 17 tons delivered. but i was closer to the pit then you are. but something to think about. i also use crushed concrete a lot for drives. works awesome. sometimes ya do have to look over the work to see if any metal left. but most time no they get that all out where im at to scrap it.
Dude hook your chains and then raise the box up a ways and then trip the gate........ Yeah I know all about it just thought you needed a laugh. You guys are doing a great job, love watching your videos. Stay safe.
maybe after it rains.... use the backhoe to compact the rocks into the clay.... normal traffic usualy runs in the same paths... with the backhoe you can roll the whole road... (pneumatic compaction is always the best) would be nice if a neighbor has a steel drum vibrating 10 ton roller... or one of the old pneumatic rollers.. (all tires...front and back)...
You found a great resource! Pick up a truck load for your own driveway. Can't beat free. Also, in an earlier video I thought you said that the road was maintained by the town/county/or Forrest Service..can't remember. So why aren't they doing this work and are they OK with you doing it instead?
great job, i think you got off light with all the gravel you had to work with, i know, thats part of were and tear, but hey, your getting it done, great video !!!!
Damn'it bud, work smarter not harder. Set your gate chains for f'sakes and drop spread that aggregate!!! Sure is pretty country out there though. Good luck.
maybe check the hydraulic hoist oil...looks like the hoist isn't toping out... if you want to try spreading... hook the chains ( almost to the end of the chains, those are really big rocks) you can always tighten next load... tie a rope to the gate handel... run the bed up maybe 45°.... let the clutch out... then pop the gate.... one of you can signal the other how fast to drive and when to finish raising the bed.... ( just a suggestion.... but don't try to get the chains to tight... those rocks are big.... jam the gate... then its shovel time) you'll do fine...
Reminds me of working in a crushing pit long ago I did not see anything they could chain too that was welded. Eventually the 2 pins on the bottom of the dump will have to be replaced. You can see when it dumps the wear. Hopefully he can get a cheap tire. I do agree with you though. I ordered some rock from a neighbor and scooped it all up with the backhoe threw it some other place and ordered screened rock 3 inch minus. At least his do not come with branches and sticks... He has those kids get them to do rock collecting as a new hobby lol... Bigger rocks for the driveway at home or makes for good drain rock behind a culvert.
robert howell there's a good look at 1:50 of the back of the truck... my phone screen is to small to see if the hooks on the gate are intact... but he has to go to.? to get a tire... (replacing the hooks is a small job... and he welds..)
The issue with the road is what happens when it rains. There are no other full time residents up here so most of the other land owners don't deal with the road the way we do.
Who owns the road that you're dumping the gravel on. If its a shared road than you should have had a meeting of the minds, if its your road than .....Que Sera, Sera
It is called being a neighbor. You never know when he will have an issue that requires a strong back or a willing hand for assistance. Say your barn catches fire and you are trying to put it out alone? A GOOD neighbor will remember that when they are driving to your house to help put out the fire. A bad one maybe not BUT that is one excuse they will not have. PLUS it was not done for the neighbor, it was done for himself. Does it benefit them? SURE, but just because they receive a benefit from it does not mean they should feel like they owe you for it.
National Resource Conservation Service NRCS They even do fencing, solar, pumps, even high tunnels. It's through the USDA. If it works out for you, ya owe me a hunt for one of those turkeys ;o)

7.12 try Andrew Camaratas videos to see how he spreads gravel on private roads. But thats east-coast gravel... ;)
Andrew is one clued-up young man
Hey I know him, I've been watching Busted Wagon Ranch videos, that's how I found you. Have fun boys. He needed this last year.
Great video Heath
It is good to see "Bartering" still goes on. I grew up with my Granddad and that is 80% of his living. Miss this lifestyle :(
My preferred way to do business.
STEPPING Stones to the future life , may everyone be that BASE to a solid foundation.
Said like a true hallmark card...
Ol 55mph R model Mack, I hate driving the one the company I work has, but for a non hurry up job, and being free, it's a good deal!
You found a great resource! Pick up a truck load for your own driveway. Can't beat free. Also, in an earlier video I thought you said that the road was maintained by the town/county/or Forrest Service..can't remember. So why aren't they doing this work and are they OK with you doing it instead?
It's an unmaintained county road.
Looked like you was having alot of fun in the truck.Lisa in East Central Ohio
Turkeys........that was cool!
A whole lot of turkey sammiches & hamburgers on the hoof!
Looks like a great area to hunt for Thanksgiving dinner!
There are only two seasons where you live...winter and July. :)
Great video once more. Good work. Inspiring
great job, i think you got off light with all the gravel you had to work with, i know, thats part of were and tear, but hey, your getting it done, great video !!!!
Awesome pile!! Thanks!
Good luck man thanks for sharing
Gravel looks good

The running of the turkeys...nice.
21 nice size little flock!
maybe check the hydraulic hoist oil...looks like the hoist isn't toping out...

you'll do fine...
relooked at the video...
that chain is way short...
if you want to try spreading the load.... add like 1 foot to the chain and add the other chain....
Reminds me of working in a crushing pit long ago I did not see anything they could chain too that was welded. Eventually the 2 pins on the bottom of the dump will have to be replaced. Those turkeys went to the Prometheus school of running away from danger.
keep up the good work
gawd..hate that traffic rush hour...
Also could name this one Turkey Run
Do you think the other landowners preferred the road the way it was to discourage traffic?
Don't you know that this *sshole thinks he knows what everyone else wants. Listen to him talk, a mister know it all.
would you want a muddy driveway or gravel ? like he said no where close to get gravel. and costly. he found a solution to that.
The issue with the road is what happens when it rains. There are no other full time residents up here so most of the other land owners don't deal with the road the way we do.
Great job dude
thank you for sharing
Man would you please make from beginning to end of all your videos of all your builds on a DVD & see if people would buy them , I know I would
Did the missing cattle ever turn up.
looks like you're going to have good hunting... 😄
Slip that neighbor a bottle of the top shelf booze, need to keep him happy
Good job
Mike, I was always taught that the road should lean into the hill so the outside doesn't erode. What are your thoughts on that?
For safety reasons as well.
hope the weather holds out for you :)
Thanks . Me too!

veronica beck my sentiments exactly

sometimes the wild turkeys provide a flight escort up my drive as i pull in...
Three times four times last one hole tire dump truck
And the best partt of these private / barter deals is that the cursed govenment can not extort ONE singe cent in "taxation"...!
Congratulations on 80k! Love your story.
good deal
drive dont know how to dump and run ? dump as he is creeping so dont have piles to spread ?
The pto wouldn't keep the bed up while driving.
man like hour after i commented yesterday i rem some pto system dont like a vehicle in gear.
my bad.
Two dump truck drivers doing interstate road construction have hit bridges in FL, forgot you are supposed to lower the bed once you dump your load.
how come the council dont fix their roads over there
No sure if you are reading comments, but did you know the government will pay for your well if you raise food on your land?
I would love this if it's a fact. I've never heard of such a thing.
Neither have I. Can you send a link to the info if there is one? How much food? Are we talking a little truck garden or an orchard?
National Resource Conservation Service NRCS
They even do fencing, solar, pumps, even high tunnels.
It's through the USDA. If it works out for you, ya owe me a hunt for one of those turkeys ;o)
And a drink of water...
sounds good
need to replace the clutch brake on that old mack truck, thats why he is grinding the gears
1000 BUCKS A LOAD?...what a rip off!....should be like 400 ...and that load is about 20 -23 yards.
Watch those brakes on the way down! You look like you are prepared to jump if need be.
so what is "pit run"? 3"-6"dense? Breaker run? 3" (cone breaker run) dense? open grade?
Unseperated. 1"- to 8"
Why didnt he drive and dump at the same time?
Some trucks use a switch to divert the driveshaft to the pump rather then having a pto driven pump.

I ran heavy equipment 36 years and never saw that...
