  • The province of Zeeland consists of a number of large islands in the South-West of The Netherlands. Part-2 of this film shows the more pleasant times when its inhabitants engage in all sorts of community games, more than a century ago in 1919. Popular community activities and games were haymaking, decorating horses, "ringsteken" (poking a stick through a ring while on horseback or on a horse and cart), "bolderen" (almost a cross between curling and the French "Jeu de Boules") and archery, but in a way that you have probably never seen before.
The province of Zeeland consists of a number of large islands in the South-West of The Netherlands. Part-1 of this film shows the simple and hard rural life of its inhabitants more than a century ago in 1919. At the time nearly all of them wore the traditional dress.
Characteristic are the two small golden reflectors that are worn at the side of the women's caps.
Zeeland has had a long fight with the sea. It was flooded often during many centuries until in the 1960's the Dutch government executed the "Delta plan" which involved closing-off the waters between the islands from the sea by means of large dams and huge sea locks.
Music: 'Dawn Mist', 'Whales Of The North', Through The Mist'' by the great Ukrainean composer Vadim Krakhma.

when you think about it, those kids lived through so many world changes. WW1, WW2, radio, tv, internet, mobile phones, technology, even if they lived at least 80 years they would still be alive in 2000, 1919 was just 7 years after Titanic so the 8 years olds even lived through that.

Is it strange that I'm in my mid 30s.. a guy and just got teary-eyed watching this? No! Not at all. Why? Because people were united and personally involved with eachother in ways that I honestly don't see happening for us again. Especially after this psychological war we've been facing and with the social dilemma. I feel like I'm witnessing everything deteriorating and it really saddens me. These people were ALIVE and attached with themselves... its not like that now. That's why I got tears cuz, I feel like I'm living in the wrong time period cuz my heart n mind seeks the simplicity and life as seen in this video.

Internet and modern technology truely degenerates our way of life.
Sure, life may be easier and it was never easier to express yourself, but let's be honest, most people nowadays just consume. They consume games, videos, films, series, twich. None of this is fulfilling your life.
People back then had a whole different way of living together, learning directly from each other, playing together, working with your family members.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I grew up in the 21st century without wars, hunger and poverty in Europe and we have a lot of traditions in my winegrowing village and young people still participate in all kind of events which is great.
But what about people in cities? Sometimes I feel like people are just living through the internet, hunting for Instagram fame and stalking their role models through all kind of social media, forgetting to live their own life even though they believe they're living it to the fullest.
Just because you consume fancy stuff, own expensive cell phones or buy stuff some influencer told you to buy, doesn't mean you're living.

Abstract architecture has ruined the landscape severely, people used to strive in every sense for aesthetics. Don’t let people fool you, and let them make you believe it’s something from the past, will never return or it is too costly. Cynicism is an effective believe system to control people. The cool thing is that we can break it all down and rebuild it more beautifully than it was. It all begins with speaking the truth to everyone you know about aesthetics: pointing out which buildings ruin the landscape and more importantly which you find beautiful. It’s like planting a seed in society. Aesthetics have an enormous impact on how feel on a daily basis. Why won’t we leave our planet more beautifully behind to our children that we found it? I come more and more to the conclusion that for the most part aesthetics aren’t subjective. There is a deeper (and objective) reason why masses of people spend all their savings to visit the old cities of Paris or Florence. The art and architecture have been corrupted; so called development has had nothing to do with progression. We don’t need art academics or intellectuals to explain us what beauty is; if the beauty of a work needs to be explained, you implicitly know it’s a scam. True beauty is the truth and can be felt instantly. Do not forget one person can change the world.

    • @kNowFixx
      @kNowFixx 3 роки тому +2

100%. Aesthetics are important. They shape the world around us. Just as you would feel immense peace and calm when looking at a sunset over the ocean, you can also feel immense peace, immense calmness, immense joy by looking at the beautiful architecture of your town or city. Unfortunately more and more modern buildings either just look like communist buildings that are intended to be almost as cheap as possible, or are intended to look as "modern"(which just means uninspired, just like modern art) as possible. Shame, really.

The more lace the richer you were. Those golden flaps are thinly hammered gold, true extravagance. Back in the old times child mortality was high due to a variety of causes SIDS, malnutrition, polio etc. Often times in working class communities girl clothes were bought for both sexes. When the children reached grade school age about 8-ish is when boys and girls dressed according to sex. I believe Roosevelt has pictures of him as a child wearing “girl” clothes.

Probably a weird thought, but I always think about all the materials, plants and even food in these videos.
We could never know, but metals must've made their way into today's cars, buildings etc... right? Recycled?
Plants & food must've died and been consumed, by us, animals or the earth, and must still be in existence in some form of energy. And it'll be that way 1000 years from now.
    We're infinite!
