I'm not a drummer, but it seems like you start with the simplest lessons you can master and slowly build a foundation, layer by layer. I suspect folks like EES have spent thousands of hours slowly doing that and we are viewing the outcome of that hard work.
He’s stated in some other video he practiced drums 8 hours a day for years at a time. Even before he started that regimen he was already a good drummer so… to get to his level takes an immense amount of dedication and practice
That's like saying, "I've never put makeup on... but it seems like you just put it on" 99% of humans that have 40 years experience on the drums, can't accomplish what this man is capable of! Lol. It's not normal.
Odd time signatures r super unimportant really. Very few songs use anything besides rare 3/4. I always just play the time signatures a bunch mix it up with 4/4 . Then u know tempo compared 4/4.then can just throw it out there. Not technically best way to learn them but. A straight slow double beater beat prob easiest practice
I tried doing it upfront and I felt really uncomfortable and struggling to have any control at all. Maybe I’ll try it in a different set up but it ain’t working for me right now
my ONLY complaint about him: what he does is for entertainment purposes only. without a doubt, he has alotta skill. i wont deny that. but he rarely shows his ACTUAL skill. most of the time he's just doing crazy blast beats or making simplistic, driving songs into an overly complicated drum solo. there's alot of basic, foundational drumming skills that he doesnt use. i.e. accenting the song rather than showing off, playing fills that fit the genre of the song (not every song is metal), occasionally playing soft for dynamic purposes, etc
He does play that crazy stuff for entertainment but so what? Haven't you heard Godzilla, or Blinded By The Lights? Creative, musical, "sings" along and supports the band and the song and he only does it perfectly.
