  • Welcome to my new series, History Quotes, where I use historical texts to tell the stories of the past. In this first episode, I will read an excerpt from an epic poem, Quintus of Smyrna's Posthomerica, which was likely written in the 4th century AD. In it he tells of the defense of troy by an Ethiopian army and their King Memnon, the demigod son of Eos, goddess of the morning dawn.

How can you bring up Egypt. Homer says Ethiopia. He was a prince, not a Pharoah. Homer knew about Egypt and Pharaoh's but he described a Ethiopian built like a massive hero. Even the Bible speaks of a powerful Ethiopian army.

Ethiopia was just where black people resided. Sudan was part of Ethiopia, Ethiopia was part of Ethiopia, everything below the Sahara was Ethiopia.
Nubians are gone now so modern Sudan has nothing to do with it, Nubians are now a minority in Egypt and absent in Sudan. Also, Ethiopia to the Greeks was south of Nubia/Sudan so it was probably referring D’mt, the Ethiopians and the portrayal of Ethiopians were Caucasian but black skinned while Sudanese people have Bantu/Nilote features

No One says he was African black not even in this video it doesn't say that. It's surely not a African story for crying out loud. But they All say the same thing about his parents. Memnon was the son of Tithonus a prince of Troy brother to Priam King of Troy and Eos a Titaness in the Hellenic Pantheon. Two Mediterranean olived skin parents don't make a black African baby. Who treveled to Aethiopia The Land of the burnt face men Aethiopia was not a country back then Aethiopia was referring to the people living South of Egypt. Just because he was born there doesn't make him African black. Where Memnon grows to become king of THE Aethiopians.

@@dion7850 Argee but irrelevant. Memnon is not African black nor African history/mythology. It's about the Epic The Iliad that Homer wrote and he does not depict him African black. Memnon Son of Tithonus a prince of Troy brother to King Priam King of Troy and Eos a Titaness in the Hellenic Pantheon. He was Trojan Hellenic. Homer the writer dose this inorder to relate and connect Memnon with Troy and give him a reason to add Troy. Priam sends a message to Memnon his nephew to help and protect the land of his Father , Tithonus. Troy In the Iliad is just another Hellenic City State , like Sparta , Mycenae and more. Of course not everything is Hellenic but Memnon was not African. Africa is rich in it's own history and mythology has it's own God's , heroes and story's. Dose not have to claim this one. This is not one of them.
