HubNut attends the Retro Rides Weekender 2021, Goodwood Motor Circuit

- We love Retro Rides meets, and the Weekender 2021 was well worth the wait. There was the usual abundant variety, with cars in stock condition, mildly modified and utterly transformed! Includes track action that included everything from a BMW-powered 2CV (with supercharger!) to V8 powered Ford Sierras and BMW E36 estate and even a bog standard Ford Escort Mk3 and a Renault Trafic camper van! The Retro Rides Gathering takes place in August at Shelsley Walsh and is well worth a visit too. www.retroridesg...

A certain young person has all the terminology off pat. Respect.
That boy is *so* going to be a petrolhead. Ian ruined him! 😅
I wonder how many within earshot were impressed/surprised by the mention of Citroen's rotary. :)
My 2 year old son was glued to this (as was I) and he screamed when I paused it to make dinner! I think I've a little petrol head on my hands! 😎
Went to this show in 2019; was gutted I couldn't make it this year. Honestly the RRW has some of the best variety of any UK car meet I've ever seen.
Loving the bosuzoku content! What a flabbergasting mix of vehicular variety, bewildering to the bonkers, brilliant
Thanks the Hub Nuts. You gave me a nice day-out there. Sadly I had no popcorn, peanuts or ice cream. What a nice piece of nostalgia and excitement. Mrs Hub Nut filmed well. Mini Hub Nut is getting ace schooling in motors. I felt like I was there. Thanks for sharing. I remember days of Hillman Imps facing off against Minis and Mk1 Escorts in the dirt, real gritty stuff. I am putting next year's Goodwood retro rides in my diary.
8:10 Hub Nut exclaims "Ah, beige Lada!" That car has never been so appreciated (except by its owner). If it was a puppy it would be wagging its tail and rolling on its back to have its tummy tickled.
It had a FIAT twin cam in it. Obviously. ;)
That’s was brilliant Ian. Really enjoyed watching that🙂👍
👌
My fave videos is when you are walking and commenting at a car show. Great to see these again. Be well
Brilliant video Mr Hubnut, this is when your at your very best, thank you
It's so nice to see Mini Hubnut is enjoying the car show scene and asking questions. Inspiring the next generation!
I own the 'entirely ridiculous' Bonneville-inspired Audi A2. Thanks for the love!
Nicely done.
Absolutely love your car it looks amazing!
Oh, my goodness... So much to like! One, a day at Goodwood. Two, a multitude of unexceptional gems. Big smiles here. Thanks!
You gotta love Ian - he’s ‘that bloke’ you always see on the guided tours on holiday right up front with his rucksack, hat and sandals - usually knows more than the tour guide and gives his own commentary on the coach to who ever is sitting near him :)
During my bike ride yesterday here in Trondheim, I was passed by a dark green MGB Coupe. Gorgeous exhaust note on that one. And I immediately thought of HubNut.
Oh, and my uncle and aunt used to have a VW Mk I Polo in the exact same colour as the one in this video :)
Dude!!!!!!! I love you..... you INVESTIGATE WHAT EXACTLY NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED!!!!! Your curiosity is INFECTIOUS!!!! You are special 🙏.... please take care!
Blimey! My old w123 estate! The red c plate! Made my gut flip seeing her!! I sent you a pic of her sporting the hubnut sticker many moons ago!! Great show!
Congratulations to Carle for keeping in the frame, what you were talking about👍
Well all I can say is Thank you for letting us see a great classic car show plus the car racing as well. I would like to say a Big Thank you to Miss Hubnut for her excellent camera work.😃👍👍🎉🎉
Thankyou Ms Hubnut for showing us some Fords! :-)
Brilliant.
Love how keen Mini Hubnut is
This track action is making me want to exploit the vocal potential of my 5 pot Ovlov. Great video, HubNuts! Mini HN is properly loving it!
Met Jet from Gladiators albeit very briefly at Truckfest in '95. Tried to take a photo with my crappy old 35mm camera (ask your Dad) but only got a pic of her bottom - unintentionally, I must add. Ah well. Thanks for sharing your day out with us, most enjoyable.
Thank you and the the family for a great vid. The sound of some of those engines made my hairs stand up !
Mini-Hubnut, "Is that what I think it is!!?" The enthusiasm is contagious :)
Thank you for capturing my truck and making it the front shot for the video 😘
Looks like a perfect introduction to car shows for MiniHubNut, plenty of a variety and what looked like a chilled out vibe.
What an awesome day out that looks, many thanks for taking us along, can't wait for the shows I'm going to.
This is great, thank you NutFam :) (the Lincoln is mine, and it had never occurred to me that the wipers were rhd :) )
I wouldn't have thought that a single show could have such an amazing variety of cars! From the Honda Z600 to the Lincoln Continen...tal. But, it is Goodwood after all. And I admire Hubnut the Younger's taste in cars, as he pointed out "Mr. Bean's" car. I found my self pausing and straining for a better look at some of the Mini's, especially the red pickup parked next to the slammed orange Beetle and the green Polo that you were admiring. Great vid, and thanks for sharing.
This video just goes to prove how much of a nerd you are Ian....
And god bless you for it....
Good to see MH and Hublettes getting involved
Beautiful , and interesting car engineering aside Ian . A smashing upload of a family outing and a lovely memory for you all. We only get few moments in life like these , so grab them while you can.
Some excellent cars there and great track action. Nice to see the whole family enjoying themselves.
Thanks for capturing my pride and joy pov spec Escort Ian! I can confirm its as basic as it looks! I managed 74mph at one point... not bad for an 1100 OHV.
5:09 Freiwillige Feuerwehr Gifhorn? What? T3 Doppelkabine Gerätewagen - sehr hübsch!. My favorite is the Honda Z600 in the correct colour...😃
Great to see CJ's pov spec Escort daily out on the track there, and a sneaky guest appearance by the LMM crew. There's nothing quite like RetroRides, it's a rather special thing.
I missed the lmn guys! What was the time stamp for that?
@@chucklberry about 39:55 Pretty sure it's them and not the alarming prospect of there being doppelgängers of the LMM crew.
Pretty sure it wasn't them. Would like to meet up with them.
Nowhere else on the planet is "beige Lada" a thing, let alone a good thing!
A beige Lada is really a thing.
@@rudydehaan5313 my beige lada was excellent.
Seeing a K11 Micra just towering over the Z600 gave me perspective on how tiny it is. Hilarious.
Welcome back to the car meet scene! Love these videos!
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Great classics. Spotted an overlooked Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu! And the Lincoln Continental, 1964, rear suicide doors, the ultimate American classic.
Loved the racetrack footage!
That stock Escort on the racetrack, well done !
Excellent video, very enjoyable indeed. Thanks, HubNut team!👍
This is brilliant. Was looking forward to this video coming out. Also that orange fiesta coming onto track is my mate and the alien is called Paul 😂😂
Love how excited Mini Hubnut is, I would have been exactly the same at his age. To crown it all, a beige Lada, how could anything top that ❤️
Some super motors and sounds, great to see you all love cars, great fun
What an amazing video and event, the whole spectrum in one place! Even with a massive fantasy garage in my mind I'd be really stuck to know what to take, probably a 1983 Passat GL5 Estate (from my childhood), mind you those Panteras were magnificent! Thank you Hubnuts really was like we were there with you.
The baywindow bus is mine 👍🏻
It’s on hydros not air 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers. Nicely done!
@@HubNut 👌🏻👍🏻
I'm only 12 miles from Goodwood and have lived there for 57 years. I've never visited the car racetrack, I must go there one day....
Do it!!!
Lovely video, really got a feel for the meet! I'm really looking fwd to being at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in early July.
Enjoyed the motors. Miss Hubnut will like this my wife & I both drive Ford's. Mine is a 17 reg Ka + my Wifes is a 57 Fiesta 1250. I passed my test in a mk2 Escort & the first car I drove was a 105 Anglia
Nice review of the day Ian. I was hoping to catch up but had to be content with listening to you over the PA. Bonus points to Junior Hubnut for the Citroen Birotor reference and to you for the rotary engine tutorial. I've shared this video to our forum as one of our members owns the blue Elford Turbo.
34.45 my rx-7
35.07 and an immaculate mk3 escort with rx-8 powerplant Rotor the World!
Didn't manage a PA chat this year sadly! Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks good family outing and ideal weather
Great video, love the polo G40 ‘Jet’ fact. Made me laugh and my mind went straight to princess Anne and reliant scimitars.
Thank you to all the Hubnuts, great video. A small request, if you see any more 89-91 4ws Preludes, please linger for a few seconds. The blue/purple Golf looked very like a face-lift FTO colour- Icelle Blue.
Great video. Great sounds. Mini hub nut knowledge is impressive. Nice camera work.
I thought the classic truck in the title card was sunken in cement!
Hub nutters camera team Is no 1 great tour guys !!😀
Great to see Alex out there again. Hope he gets down to Gurston again soon. Great video Ian.
I love the brown overload and great sounds!
Great video, loved seeing some track action as well as the huge variety on show.
That Escort starting a track group sounded like it was a rally spec car, probably running a Millington engine. Depending what the spec is, it could be pushing anywhere upto 370bhp and 300lbft of torque. They're a thing to be seen when driven in anger for sure!
Yes and a sequential gearbox by the sound of it too. Very impressive.
The Escort is mine and I had a fantastic weekend at the show. . 2.5 Millington Diamond S2+, 330bhp, 245ftlb torque , Tractive RD906 6 speed sequential box and flat shift for full throttle up-shifts 👍🏁
@@davidmerrick7113 I'm very jealous haha, I see you guys in the Millington Escorts a lot at rally events and they look like a load of fun to drive
Fantastic viewing. Most enjoyable content. Big thumbs up.
Amazing range of retro cars 🚗 thanks hubnut family 👍
Brilliant video by all of you. Fun day out.
The beautiful Mercedes Benz were my favourite of all the cars all though there were many lovely cars there. Remember on wheeler dealers many years back they acquired one very similar Mercedes Benz saloon and it also looked beautiful when Edd China as always did a marvellous job. Thanks Ian for another fantastic video 👍🏻
that pattern on 2cv seats is called Raye followed by what ever colour the covers are e.g Raye Orange
From watching some other videos, I think one of the track noise sensors is in that chicane at 39:53. There might be 1 or 2 more around the circuit that the regular drivers change up/let off for so that they aren't at least recorded at over the limit.
Now that’s an eclectic mix of vehicles. Nice to see Goodwood not as rammed as for the Revival.
Lovely. Lots of variety. The White Honda Beat seems to get around...
That Honda Acty I've seen before, think it was on Car Pervert/ Late Brake Show.
will have to go next year to all the Goodwood events
In my first job in a car accessory shop in 1986 I haven't seen or heard of any Backflashes in years ,reminds me of them "Trapped Fngers " Door Guards that was also popular.
Love the base stock stuff. Black bumpers all the way!
I'm pleased to say I enjoyed that more than I thought I would
Looked a great day guys. 👍👍🇬🇧🏴
That Uno Turbo was one of the fastest! 😃 Lovely in cute Mark 2 style.
Thanks for great video, love that variety of cars 👍
Next best thing to being there! Cheers Ian!
From the thumbnail view of that old truck, I was convinced there had been flooding with lots of muddy water.
Love Famliy HUBNUT around old metal.
Thank God that Mini Hubnut was there to look after Ian because he was showing absolutely all of the usual Hyper Exited Markers.
Didn't the TVR Cerbera look like it was only using a third of its potential.
F--- that 2CV was quick!!!
when the mini came onto the race track, approx 18.00, i also said bless it. cos it really looked like the mini was doing it cos it was excited to be there. the same as Ian said about Ellie, a long time ago wen he took her round a race track somewhere
In the US, we got the 240, 260, and the 280 z
Same in Australia and then the 300Z and later the Skyline GTR new off the Nissan showroom floor to qualify for local major race series.
22:57
"Nah mate, the suspensions fine. All the rage with the kids...."
"Nah mate, thats not rust, thats patina that is."
"Nah mate, the treads fine, theyre racing slicks they are.
What a lovely video ,,,and it beeing released on my birthday is superb :) ...a shame i did not catch that "on my day" though:) Thank you for an enjoyable video of a seemingly gooooooood day :) Greetings from Norway ,Stefan
excellent mr seabrook. very much enjoyed and very entertaining. better than watching telly 10 out of 10 .hubs nuts.
15:56 I don't recall ever seeing two wipers on one pivot before - that's got a good chance of being unique.
Thanks for the tour at RRW.
Brilliant video, thank you for posting.
In much the same way as Oz Clake could identify any wine, so Ian can id any car! Lovely selection of cool cars there
Loved the Escort van!
Great video my friend, I like to see all the cars from my era. Love from California.
Some good moments in this, it’s all about looking cool, like me!
The polo harlequin comment got me 😂 also owned by the type of people that answer the phone with “y’ello!”
I hope you had a good birthday, Ian. All the best.
"TV presenter Rusty Lee used to drive one of these " 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Quote of the video ..
Very good video though Ian looks like you and the fam had a great day ..
Hubtastic flowing commentary, very entertaining as always.
Great video, I spotted an Escort Combi ( 3 door estate ) in there , getting rare now. Best wishes
Never heard of a Clan. Sweet. This is the reason I subscribed. You know cars I've never even seen.
Mk2 Escort in the sprint ... wow ... just wow. Guessing Millington power & Quaife sequential. Just perfect.
Glad you were entertained Keith, my Mk2 is running a 2.5 Millington Diamond S2+ (330bhp) and a Tractive RD906 6 speed sequential box with flat shift allowing clutchless up shifts.👍🏁
@@davidmerrick7113 Entertained indeed. Came out of the traps faster than anything else & sounding better than anything else ... awesome 👍
Totally enjoyed the video Ian, thanks to Miss Hubnut for the camera work. You excel at these types of videos, the main reason why I initially subscribed to your channel. 👍
Oh wow! I owned the exact same model of Prelude with 4WS. 1987 model in midnight blue. Another car I wish I'd never sold.
I also owned the same model Accord, 1986 with leather interior and all the bells and whistles. Beautiful car to drive.
Its interesting to see this model of Accord with fixed headlamps. The same model sold in New Zealand had pop up headlamps and looked like the Prelude from the front on.
A whole new world I knew nothing about. Very enjoyable video! I'm off to slam my 2021 Fiesta ready for my next lesson teaching people to drive! 😁
Think you should of finished the static carparks before crossing track side
We mostly did. Sadly we were there on the Saturday. Far more cars on the Sunday.
