    All I can say is God bless you. I started in analog in the 80s and mixing totally in the box does smush or "constipate" a mix. This actually made be teary-eyed. Well done indeed.

    The mix already sounds fantastic.

  • @creeker90
    @creeker90 5 місяців тому +10

    I tried the demo and have to say that it sounds pretty fantastic. However, I put it on a mix and replaced my usual mixbus EQ Knif Audio Soma with the Sidecar with it and got it to 98% sounding the same. The harmonic distortion modeling on the Pulsar is second to none and the additional compressor certainly rounds of the transients beautifully. When I blind tested both versions of my mix I was hardly able to distinguish between the two, however when I did a blind shootout, I preferred the Knif Soma version 100% of the time.
    What I found particularly interesting was, that I had to put on 120% stereo spread and the mono maker to 60Hz to achieve similarity. So that’s probably something of the special sauce happening in the Pulsar. Nonetheless great sounding plugin, albeit pretty pricey.

    • @pulsarmodular
      @pulsarmodular  5 місяців тому +17

      You had already finished the mix with the Knif, so your ears have already got accustomed to that EQ. Knif is tube based EQ while ours are virtual op-amp based. So it has a different character. Update this thread once you start on a new mix and now in reverse, use the P455 EQ and at the end take it out and use the Knif and see how you feel about it.

    Loving this on busses and master! I would really recommend the ability to bypass the A/D as an option AND more wet/dry options esp when we are using on a master....sometimes I want a little of the color but still some transparency from before. Preferring the Line Amp off on the master to keep it super open. Also wet/dry on the compressor :) Anyway, loving how smooth and beautiful it sounds.

    Sounds great in terms of eq & overall colour, but the absence of a proper easily relatable gain reduction meter, the unnecessarily clunky procedure for output gain compensation and the price are just silly, IMHO.
    🚫
    Also, I would worry if my choices of A/D conversion made such an audible difference as the two being emulated (??) in this plugin seem to exhibit.
    To each their own, I guess.
    🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @marcdanielnelson317
      @marcdanielnelson317 5 місяців тому +7

      The Gain Reduction read out is clear as day giving you exact number down to the 10th of a decimal point. Hitting SHIFT to get Auto gain is not at all clunky when you are wanting to use it on and off on the fly versus having to hit a button to turn it on and off. The opposite really. Price for 2 plugins is very fair.

    • @PrantoKoX
      @PrantoKoX 5 місяців тому +4

      @@marcdanielnelson317 Hmm, agree to disagree, I guess:
      -the GR is not unclear, indeed it's very precise, I wrote "easily relatable", meaning not everchanging tiny numbers in the top edge row, but a good old VU/LED/PPM style meter like 99.9% of compressors people are used to
      -clunky, in this context, for me means unusual, requiring a different thought or additional move, to which there already have been more elegant solutions
      -the price may seem very fair from your chair, but IMHO companies like Valhalla or Boz or TDR get that right, i.e. very fair would be approx half of what it goes for now on "sale" - do remember that there are different markets and economies, and that one can buy a full pro DAW (without which a plugin is useless) for just 2x that price.
      🤷🏼‍♂️
      This aside, I appreciate you answering, and more importantly I'm a big fan of your work, sound and ear!

    I get that it’s a marketing ad, if you didn’t tell me what was what I wouldn’t listen to the song any different. Songs are good or not good to the end listener. All the gear or plug-ins in available in this world can’t change that. I don’t hear enough difference to make me like or dislike the song more or less. Just my 2 cents

    • @user-bo8ex4ji7n
      @user-bo8ex4ji7n 4 місяці тому

      A valid opinion - but I'd argue that maybe you haven't been producing for a very long time. Eventually I think everyone in this profession reaches the conclusion that you only get one fleeting chance to make your first impression with a song. The emotional impact of the song is decided on the first listen. Everything you heard after his first play of it is likely not going to change the way you feel about the song.
      With that said, a mixer's pursuit is to make the best first impression possible. I could definitely feel the enhanced emotional appeal of the song after some of his changes. If it were my first listen, it might have helped me better connect with the track. If you don't feel this way, mixing might not be the right pursuit for you. The world needs creators, producers, mixers, engineers, etc so there's no problem with that!

    Hi Marc Daniel & Pulsar. If you truly wanted to show how accurate of an emulation this plugin is you should have done a proper A/B test. It seems a little disingenuous to have the real thing sitting right behind you and not compare them at least briefly as a testament to how accurate your plugin design is.

      @@ramspencer5492 sure, I can believe that, my point is it’s a little frustrating for a plug-in developer to say the main function is an emulation a hardware chain and then not even demonstrate how accurate of an emulation it is, but rather just “take their word for it”. Customers are rightful to be weary of overly positive sales language and bold claims these days.

      Imagine designing a UI that only you know and the rest of the world needs to read a manual to understand.
      Imagine believing that everyone who tries your plugin will develop a cult-like obsession and use it daily for the rest of their lives... and then building your UI around that belief.

    your great taste definitely coming through on the audio examples - love how it makes everything interdependent without being squashed. the right kind of magic glue. **DOWNLOADS AND TRIES DEMO** ok this a perfect 'finishing touches' plug-in - I"m adding it to a mix which already has outboard 2-buss stuff of a very high quality (Unfairchild, Overstayer, Terry etc,) and it's a great way to manipulate the 3D space a little more - it's very immediate and I definitely needed to back off the bias in order not to overdo things but I would say this is an instant purchase. things like this and the new Coil CA-70 are taking plug-ins to a new level and blow away the flat IR style plugs from the likes of Acustica which always sound like someone stuck a filter across the music to me. these actually have non-linearities and respond to what's coming in. bravo!

    watching Marc's excitement throughout this is just infectious. I know he doesn't connect his name to many brands or companies, so to see him so pumped about this is a massive endorsement of authenticity!

    After testing this I think the sidecar is great! While the separate EQ sounds nice I don't think it's particularly special. It would be nice to have the option to buy these separately.

    I have a serious question and depending upon the answer, I will either buy the plugin or not.
    I mix Atmos with a very similar concept to your summing. I have a 12 stereo channel master bus with a Lindell 50 Channel with different TMT settings and an API550A on each with the opamp driven a bit. The compressor that comes beforehand on each channel is sidechained externally to the stereo bus so the Atmos mix gets compressed the same as the stereo mix.
    So the question is does your plugin take a external sidechain?
    It is exactly the plugin of my dreams if it does. 🙏🏾😉

    wow the A B is actually insane. As soon as you took it out everything got noticeably dull and flat. It adds a crazy amount of space between each element while maintaining their complimentary relationships. Air, man. Its all about that air.

    Sounds amazing and Marc seems like a genuine guy backing this plugin. No snake oil. I pulled the trigger, the separation, depth and sheen it brings sounds very professional.

    Love this and love Marc!you are my biggest mixing and Audio hero in general. Because of that I do wish the comparisons would be level matched a little better tho’
    The plugins own input and output meter show a clear difference throughout the video.
    Alas It’s marketing, so understandable.

    another "best in a market" one.... .5 years of development, etc..Right! Anyway - these are .too expensive no matter how good they are. Pulsar Modular prices are ridiculous. I wonder if anyone paid them money they ask for their very "special" products. If you want analog - get hardware , don't trust "emulation algorithm" and other B.S.

      You should stop fooling people! Teach them how to mix properly (so the mix would not sound "constipated in the first place") instead of turd polishing with $250 plugin - that's how I really feel.

    • @themixinghood
      @themixinghood 4 місяці тому +3

      No one, absolutely, no one! Can "teach" you how to mix a record. Maybe you're just not good at mixing. Reason being... this product is phenomenal, and I heard it as soon as I inserted it. If placed on submix or master bus of a project that's "mixed" well, it shines bright like diamond. Seriously, I own a lot of plugins and some hardware, and this thing is the real deal. Despite the price tag, it's worth science put behind it.

      250 is more than fair for the bundle and 189 into price is a steal. The plugins have excellent audio quality and that will save you money the long way, as those tools will sit in your folder a very long time; and they will replace a lot of stuff, if you start to compare.

      You sound like you are a paid plant for Pulsar modular. I've never heard a normal person spit out so many numbers to convince a total stranger why they "need" something. It's similar to the Jedi mind trick approach where one simply tells another "what you say is too expensive is actually a bargain. you will buy it and it will make your life better. You will feel whole again after buying 200- 400 dollar plugins that make such a small difference that only other producers and engineers will be able to discern, but trust me you need this." @@nichttuntun3364
