    I absolutely love that you craft your videos so that they are short and to the point. There's no over-explanations. Most of us who practice this art are visual learners, so this tutorial style is perfect. Oh, and the techniques are super effective... Thank you!

    Thai clinch is a great skill to have not only for sport but for self defense purposes as well,given attacker is unarmed of course. I was so amazed when a smaller girl was able to control me with this like a ragdoll, whipping me around in the gym LOL

  • @PRSer

    More great content! I've learned more than anything after years of doing muay thai is that almost all muay thai sweeps are most effective as a counter or timing based move instead of forcing it. Something that is done in combination with clinch fighting and knees. A lot of people when they first try these sweeps think that they're a single technique that they should enforce on their sparring partner but it's not. Even you show these techniques with some set up or counter move. Just my 2 cents.

    • @MMAShredded
      @MMAShredded  6 років тому +2

      Yeah your right, its all about set ups, timing, feeling it out, and re-attempting the sweep until you get it. It rarely works on a single shot! Thanks for commenting bro!

    We use all of them in some variation in Judo too (and I guess in other wrestling arts they are also used).
    I guess efficient movement is universal.
    In Judo they are called (I guessed the name on the throwing princple used, I am no expert in this so feel free to correct me):
    1. Sasae or hiza guruma 2. Deashi 3.Variation of Ura Nage (with leg hook it's a kosoto gari) 4. also Sase ? please correct me

    It’s decent for a certain level but you’re moving your feet far to sporadically, and with all the movement your upper body is doing ,it will mk it significantly easier to sweep you because it’s easier for your opponent to feel your body ...oh and the backbreaker I’m pretty sure is illegal, you can fall on top of them but you can’t bend their back like that until they “break”...

      Since orthodox vs. southpaw is mirror image things that work against southpaw fighters will actually be exactly the same and work in the same way for the southpaw against the orthodox. I fight in both southpaw and orthodox myself and have experience of this :)
      The only difference is obviously the rear hand or leg will be the left and not the right but I'm sure you can work that out :)

    • @thejoojoo9999
      @thejoojoo9999 6 років тому +3

      You don't want to square up and trade blows with Thais. That's their specialty, they hit like trucks and can tank a lot of damage. Thais (at least from the Thai Muay Thai fighters) generally have a pretty static style, not much movement, reliance on blocks instead of mobility and dodging. Their favorite weapons are the terrifying roundhouse kick (mainly to the legs) and clinching with knees and elbows.
      So basically you want to try to outmaneuver them : be mobile, dodge, slip, use head movement and use your footwork to create angles of attack.
      Use your punches, since that's where you'll be superior (assuming you have good notions of western boxing, and that the opponent doesn't do western style MT).
      Try to use linear attacks : MT people have a tendency to train mostly circular strikes (especially kicks), so punching/kicking down the center is slightly easier (side kicks, axe kick, spinning back kick, ...).
      Thais have enormous kicking power, but their kicks are quite slow and telegraphed (relatively speaking). Chambered kicks (kind of Karate/TKD style), although a bit weaker, will work better for you (if you're good at it) than trying to beat them at their own game. Many quick, sneaky kicks instead of a few big slow ones.
      Thais are very good in the clinch, so if you wanna have a chance in grapple you should use your wrestling or BJJ or Judo takedowns to which they aren't very used.
      Obviously, pure MT don't do ground game, so if you're in MMA rules and that's your thing, it's a very good option.
      If your opponent does Dutch/western style MT, than what I said still holds mostly true, except that they generally don't do as much clinch/elbow work and use boxing more extensively.
      I'm no pro or expert though, so take my advice as a list of ideas from an amateur, not absolute truths.

    • @MMAShredded
      @MMAShredded  6 років тому

      Sorry for the late response, I never got the notification until Julien replied. I agree with what Julien said. Use in and out movement/footwork. Use a lot of hands as their stance generally gives them better ability to kick but weaker in the hands.

    Would you recommend shorter guys to fight for sweeps inside the clinch, or would you rather have them find a way to escape?

      I recommend the quarter turn sweep and the backbreaker for shorter guys. It works really well if your shorter and especially if your the short bulky type. The backbreaker because your shorter to get the underhooks and the quarter turn if your strong. Although being shorter may get you in a shitty full clinch position for knees to the head easier, if you develop a strong neck, you can easily avoid it with strong posture. Hope this answer helps! How tall are you?

      Thats no problem bro. I would try to master the backbreaker if i were you. A strong counter to someone trying to full clinch you, would be to get the double under hooks before your opponent breaks your posture with the full clinch!

      Very limited Judo, my takedowns consist more of wrestling techniques. I have 2-3 Judo techniques that I'd say I can land on a trained fighter. Are you a judo guy?

    You can't hook the leg in Muay Thai? How about famous Saenchai sweep from southpaw stance? Seems like he always hooks leg under the ass for best sweep, you even showed example in your vid. Or you can hook like that? Thank you for the video, amazing content.

    The back breaker is 100% illegal in muaythai.
