So I've never seen your channel before, but with this video being the most hilarious with its various effects I must admit this is one of the most entertaining videos I've seen on any topic all year so far!!!
you're right...price is a big factor :) ...I need to do another version of this video and add some of the awesome points viewers placed below the video :)
I'm choosing an ebike over an electric because I'm planning on using it as my daily driver for in city stuff. While I'll have to buy multiple locks and chains to secure it, I'll be able to go to doctor appointments, buy groceries from stores, and travel around on a vehicle that I'm more familiar with. I currently don't have a car and the used car market is horrible right now, so ebike is the best choice for me. I've been walking around town, getting driven by family/friends if the walk is over 3 miles, and taking Uber instead, but that has been much cheaper for me than buying a car. I think an ebike will allow me to travel easier without having to pay from expensive insurance+ maintenance. I bought a RadWagon 4 a couple days back after scouring the internet for an affordable ecargo bike and I hope that it will fulfill my needs as a daily commute ebike and a bike I can use to buy groceries and other goods.
awesome to hear...I think you're not the only one that's investigating alternatives to buying a used car or even using a car. Hope the radwagon works well for you :)
With an electric bike you can build up your cardio very slowly. Eventually the range increases dramatically. People e-scooter for very short distances. Usually distances they could walk easily. I admit I have little love for the e-scooter. But it's also more light vehicle on the road and actually encourages authorities to imagine a different kind of urbanism.
I wanted to add, that, since the freight is also half of the motive power on ebikes, the range for one with a similar battery to scooter is 2-3 times longer (there are some scooters with massive batteries out there...if you are willing to shell out a few thousand bucks 😉) I had an ebike for a while, but recently got an escooter. I have decided to return to an "analog" bike, and keep the scooter - but that's just my preferences in my situation.
Hey Tim, I’m so glad you did a video about this because I was hoping and I was even thinking in my mind, is anyone gonna do a video of a e-scooter vs. electric bike comparison and the first video I see is yours! That is awesome! I’ve been trying to get a scooter for almost a year; And I haven’t been able to buy one because I have a sick wife who deals with leukopenia which drains a lot of my money. So thank you for creating this video. I’m trying to make a decision. And you just helped me. Thank you so much.
@@DiscoverHealth thank you for your kind words...she rode an ebike this week for the first time...in fact we made a video which will be on her second channel on Sunday :)
I chose a electric scooter because the battery was much larger for the price and the weight wasn't as much with a electric scooter. I think electric bikes are great and can handle better. The electric scooter is more portable in most cases.
@@TimsElectric I will be getting a faster scooter so today i bought some Fly Racing 5 pivot knee guards knee and chin guards very nice next new elbow guards.
great video Tim, I have a one wheel electric board, glad I brought this over an electric skate board, it's not for commuting, the fun factor you said about the scooter and the smile on your face is exactly what I get from the one wheel pint, also portability into coffee shops is great. I ride distances on a pushbike, not electric, but am getting the EV bug and want more. I read the comments below, looks like unless you're commuting long distances ( these days the Merth RS pro can do 80 to 100 kays so I don't think distance is even an issue now) both will do the job, but most comments below are highly in favour of the scooters, fun factor, cheaper and portability appear to win the race. You made the choice much easier. Thanks Mate. Ken. Australia
@Ken Goold thanks for sharing :) I haven't tried a One Wheel yet...maybe one day if a fellow rider around here has one :) the smile on the dial is a big factor for me :) :) Is there a model of scooter that you're looking at...I know down under that the brands can be different :)
I just bought a Splach Titan and couldn't wait for it to arrive. On my first ride, I was stunned by how hard it was to get used to. Specifically, the throttle, brakes, and stability. For the throttle, I mean, you barely squeeze the trigger and ZOOM, off it goes, even in single mode. I live in a hilly area and the first time I went down a hill I was staggered when the regen brakes kicked in. Like the throttle, the power onset is not gradual at all. Now, when I go downhill, I start braking and keep the brakes on during the whole decent. Another feature where I live is roundabouts. With no turn signals and added instability by riding with one hand using the other to signal, there is no way I'm going to attempt to navigate a roundabout. So, I wind up pushing the scooter around until my exit. For me at least, any fun factor is pretty much completely mitigated by the fear factor. Anyone wanna buy a slightly used Splach Titan 10? 🙂
@@TimsElectric Yes, I did. The regen brakes are set at "2" which is the highest. I went into the P settings and toned it down to one but that's still too grippy. Next step, remove the regens completely.
Ebikes are better if you care more about distance and power. Escooters are better if you care more about mobility. I own an ebike and escooter. I use my ebike when I have to go anything over 5 miles in distance and need to get some place quickly. However, for short trips to the store, I use my escooter. Also I prefer to use my escooter if i'm going to visit someone so I can easily fold it up.
@@TimsElectric depends on the scooter you're using. I cannot see myself realistically riding an escooter faster than 20 mph (otherwise it feels unsafe) and to do anything close to what you can do on a bike. I personally prefer riding my ebike just for the fun factor.
I tried to take my scooter into Walmart in Edmonton, and they told me I had to leave it outside. Few stores allow bikes and scooters inside. I find ebikes have more practical purpose and greater versatility. I can load stuff on a bike, and I can use it during winter without having to worry about the cold draining the battery and leaving me stranded. Ebikes are better on slick surfaces, and with fat tires, you don't need suspension on rough terrain. Scooters are great for leisure, but if you're looking for something that isn't seasonal and can do more than go from one place to another, an ebike is the way to go.
Awesome @gunstargizmo, thanks for sharing :) Sorry to hear that the Walmart didn't let you in with the scooter...very odd, I've not been refused before ....maybe email the manager or go and speak with the manager and explain that you'd like the scooter to be there when you come out :)
@@TimsElectric They let me keep it inside the main doors, but not the store itself. I've never seen anyone in the store with anything other than a mobility scooter. The scooter was only 22kgs so someone could just lift it from inside since there's no where to secure it. Now I have a 41kg ebike that needs to be carried to steal. Still, I'd never leave my scooter or bike alone for longer than 15mins.
@@gunstargizmo that's smart :) :)...honestly, I just walk into stores with my scooters (not the wolf) and leave a shopping basket on the deck and toss stuff into it....not once has someone said anything and honestly if they did, I wouldn't shop there again :)
I got both ..the ebike to ride around close to home and commute to work..the scooter for when i go to the beach.. it's portable so i could fold it and put it in my car..and when i get out on the beach ride around a bit.
Ebikes are healthier as they are a form of semi active transportation in which one can get doctor recommended aerobic exercise on but Escooters have a place for micro mobility as they can often be taken into offices and many times doctor offices. I do have a nearby large grocery store (a Fred Meyer store) that permits me to take my ebike right into the store and use it just like a shopping cart but they probably permit me to do so as I am elderly (age 65) and disabled physically (heart patient with COPD). Personally I own two ebikes (one designed specifically for riding in rainy weather without me getting wet at all and another one for good weather conditions). I am looking at getting a Escooter when I have the funds for one.
Awesome @m9078jk3, wise words indeed...I do use my escooters as a shopping cart when I do grocery shopping (I just place the basket on the deck and it balances perfectly), but haven't tried pushing an ebike through a grocery store :) best of luck with the hunt for an escooter and if you need help do reach out :)
The scooter by far!!! I love my Yume Y11+. I had an electric bike before but electric bikes just feel like a regular pedal bike just faster though. A scooter is an entirely different experience
An honest question, what would you do if your electric scooter were to run out of battery? do you HAVE to push it or can you just use it like how you would use a manual kick scooter?
@Dean Gully great question. Yes you can kick it like a non electric scooter...but with the bigger heavier ones I'd call for a lift lol ...or walk it home which I've done once before :) :)
Hey Tim, I have always wondered on the durability of e-scooters. I haven't had the experience, but one can just imagine that with tiny wheels on a stiff platform and no suspension system, the structure couldn't last long. Am I right? Then, with the pedal assistance, the batteries from e-bikes should require less frequent charging cycles and last longer. Being many times the battery 50% of the cost of the e-scooter or 30% of the cost of the e-bike. Is this correct? I have been using a regular bike for commuting (8 miles each way), and I'm thinking on turning it electric for less effort.
you're logic is sound :) however the timeline might be off. Let me explain. I have scooters that have 3000 K and more on them..no issues at all. So I expect them to wear out faster than an ebike but it might take years...time will tell :) On a side note...once you've tried an ebike or electric scooter....riding a regular bike will seem like a chore. It's odd...with a regular bike it always seemed like the wind was against me both ways and the hills were steep each way lol but with these units...it's like surfing :) love it :)
Agreed on the wind. I used to and hopefully will again this next Summer use my bike to commute some days to work, but a lot of the time I get annoyed peddling against the wind. I have a 15 year or so Ego scooter and have been thinking more and more about these much more updated ones. Handlebar rider height and price are my biggest turnoffs especially since it's truly and want more than a need 😆@@TimsElectric
@@TimsElectric yvw, a driver told me that "literally" 😆 in A PINCH, some riders will let some of the air out of their tires to squeeze fat tires into the rack. Also, a customer service rep told me that if the tires are less than 20 inches, the driver is required to let them take their bike INSIDE of the bus. But they don't advertise this accomodation. So riders are "squeezing" their tires for now. 🤪🫠🚴♂️🚴🚴♀️
This wasn't about e-bikes vs e-scooters. This was about e-bikes vs. SMALL-WHEELED e-scooters. e-scootets are also available wi😮th other wheel combos: 28/20, 26/26, 28.18, 16/16, and more.
@@TimsElectric The thumbnail shows a scooter with small wheels. But that didn't guarantee that your comparison would be confined to that. I guess I expected your title to read, "Full-Size EBike vs: Small-Wheel EScooter: Which is Better?"
My E-scooter have a range with my weight on straight roads 40km. I buyed it because it's cheeper then an e-bike and I have a weak heart so just standing and enjoying my ride without my heart killing me and sweating to work and home. I find e Bike useless and waist beside it good for older people. When my heart was fine I liked to ride my bike hill up and down enjoying the sport and the ride and going from a to b easily on lowest cost, bikes are cheap and no need for paying electricity and light. I once took it on my back to walk thru a field in winder. Knee deep Snow. Damn I miss does time where I was healthy
@Tim's Electric great content by the way... looking forward to making a purchase soon. Still undecided. I have a dirt bike & 2 e-skateboards but want more... lol
They're so much fun...unless you don't have a garage to store them safely and live on the top floor of a building without an elevator lol...in which case...the scooter wins for me :)
scooters have really small wheels which makes it much easier to crash if you accidentally run over some small stone or something like that. an e bike would just drive right over the thing
Tim NAILED it again! Don’t worry about locks or keys with an electric scooter, bring it into the store with you! EBikes for long distance and wide open roads and electric scooters for crowded urban environments. For super crowded pedestrian-dense areas, a non-electric kick scooter is the way to go.
the usefulness of the unpowered kick scooter is extremely under rated. they are by far the best "last mile" mobility device in a dense pedestrian populated city. They throw over your shoulder to go anywhere with you, require very little energy to move you further and faster tha nwalking, but are incredibly nimble and can be stopped on a dime. ive in san francisco and have bicycles, motor scooters (gas and electric) and have used e-skateboards and a bunch of other small mobility devices. the unpowered kick scooter gets the most use.
My commute to work involves a very long descending hill. I'd say at most a mile. Sometimes a little snow as well. How do the ebikes do on hills is my concern. 🤔
Awesome question @julesramel2487, I have a similar hill up to the university here in town...long and usually has the wind against me. Both will tackle the hill but I find that ebikes are usually better on hills as you can add your own pedal power to the equation. So my advice would be an Ebike :) ....as long as you have somewhere safe to lock it up :)
So it looks like i wont purchase either i cant find out what the legality is of scooters in california and class 2 ebikes cant climb hills so the are useless for where i live
@@TimsElectric it's possible to add flywheel, but that's gonna increase weight and less efficient. eScooters without signal lights are dangerous since it's not easy to give a hand signal without holding onto the handle with two hands. Almost had a close call when it lost balance on me.
@@TimsElectric In England, Lincoln... It's been 3 years since the Late Queen's Speech and now the Kings Speech most recently, no plans to Legalise E Scooters so it's just not worth giving the police the delight of taking (or rather stealing) any!
@@TimsElectric The solution at least for me was a Lankeleisi MG740 Plus. Do please have a Google on the specs - however I really enjoy your channel and wish you many, many more subscribers
@@TimsElectric There’s no clear answer to this but here they do not put them under the same category as eBikes. Instead they put it under the same category as fully motorized vehicles that require an insurance and you to own a drivers license to be able to legally drive them. Safety is also a huge factor as they have to go through several safety tests, however they never succeeded to be safe enough for our busy roads.
@@Niels_f2704 sorry to hear...I love riding them....yesterday we had three riders went about 20kms on the bike lanes, not too fast, just cruising and it was lovely...sorry to hear the govt where you are didn't see the bigger picture as there are riders that can't use ebikes and bicycles...on the other hand the use of bikes in the Netherlands is awesome to see :)
Ze zijn bezig met legaliseren hoor, maar pas in 2024. Klopt wel dat je ze moet verzekeren. Rijbewijs zal niet nodig zijn. Ik vinden ze beter dan een elektrische fiets
@@TimsElectric The various DMVs try to regulate e-bikes and make fake classes1,2,3 which police try to be revenue agents for. With e-scooters, it's much easier to travel here and there. How long do you think it's going to take for the DMVs to jump on scooters? People already try to hide their bikes being e-bikes by disguise. But e-scooters and boards are obviously not disguisable. No one can push a scooter to 40mph by foot.
Oh I picked scooter over ebike why? Before the e bike came I had a regular bike. Keep the story short my bike got stolen TWICE that's 2 bikes!! There's where I lost my interest on them and move to scooters. The BIGGEST PROBLEM with ebike nowadays they get stolen very easily you can't even leave it there for more than 1hrs. The BIGGEST advantage of scooters is they're HARDER to steal you need a key plus a card also lock it with your cellphone with GPS and you can remove your batteries. Also scooters needs a instructions manual to start. Something bike thief just cannot do manually on bike dedal HAHAHA! Also if your car broke down you can use your scooter a bike just cannot do that. Because they don't fit in the trunk of the car. Also if I want to work out exercise i just go to gym with my scooter. If you leave your ebike outside the gym for JUST more than 1hr most likely will get stolen. Oh my scooter is MERCANE MX60 is for heavy folks and waterproof.
awesome comment ...five stars...locking ebikes in this town is like going to the casino :) You win it's still there when you get out of the gym...I wouldn't risk it :) Plus I push my scooter through stores all the time...no issues...but the ebikes...I'm pretty sure someone would stop me lol :)
oh and Pro tip...when you get into the grocery store grab a basket and put it on the scooter and push it around...it's practically a shopping cart without a squeaky wheel :)
@@TimsElectric 😄 HAHAHA I laughed soo HARD that really hurt my stomach really! That's right most of the time those grocery carts you can't even push it plus their dirty. I really love my scooter i will bury it next to my grave. Bike thief is BIG PROBLEM nowadays they're attracted to ebike that's why I'm not even going to spend thousands of dollars on ebike if only going to get stolen. I already spent thousands of dollars on my Mercane mx60 scooter I'm glad my investment is safer than ebike.
@@TimsElectric actually you can take your scooter inside your gym it's alot better people love the looks of my scooter anyway it's BIG and heavy not a kids toys.
At 68 I have both and the escooter is way better for it's smaller footprint and then other times I just like to chill and go ride the bike trails so I would suggest you try one. You may be surprised at how cool they are! I took them both out today for hours. I wouldn't give neither up...
@@TimsElectric I've had a whole 1000 Watt rear hub get totally jammed up in the spokes - remember aluminium spokes and soft and will give way under the stress whereas stainless steel won't.
We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

An honest question, what would you do if your electric scooter were to run out of battery? do you HAVE to push it or can you just use it like how you would use a manual kick scooter?
@Dean Gully great question. Yes you can kick it like a non electric scooter...but with the bigger heavier ones I'd call for a lift lol ...or walk it home which I've done once before :) :)
buy both ! Escooter in summer, Ebike in winter.
Awesome idea @user-nw3bj4yh5u
What about maintenance and finding shops to work on them???
depends where you live...I see in SF they have one that will repair all makes and models :) Up here on the isalnd not yet...but soon :)
@@TimsElectric how would you go about finding one..? Google scooter shop near me?
@@coryherritt9179 you could try...are you close to a major city? Also you can try Ebike repair places...they might be amenable
Some funny comedy in this, thnx dude.
Glad you enjoyed it! @Mark Elford
Hey Tim,
I have always wondered on the durability of e-scooters.
I have been using a regular bike for commuting (8 miles each way), and I'm thinking on turning it electric for less effort.
you're logic is sound :)
however the timeline might be off.
Let me explain.
I have scooters that have 3000 K and more on them..no issues at all.
So I expect them to wear out faster than an ebike but it might take years...time will tell :)
On a side note...once you've tried an ebike or electric scooter....riding a regular bike will seem like a chore.
It's odd...with a regular bike it always seemed like the wind was against me both ways and the hills were steep each way lol
but with these units...it's like surfing :) love it :)
@@TimsElectric Thank you for your answer and experience!
Most e-bikes have tires way too wide for city bus bike racks. Most city bus bike racks won't accomodate tires wider than 2-1/2 inches.
I didn't know that
@kitcatmeeow571 thanks for letting me know :)
Cheers
@@TimsElectric yvw, a driver told me that "literally" 😆 in A PINCH, some riders will let some of the air out of their tires to squeeze fat tires into the rack. Also, a customer service rep told me that if the tires are less than 20 inches, the driver is required to let them take their bike INSIDE of the bus. But they don't advertise this accomodation. So riders are "squeezing" their tires for now. 🤪🫠🚴♂️🚴🚴♀️
@@kitcatmeeow571 interesting :)
This wasn't about e-bikes vs e-scooters. This was about e-bikes vs. SMALL-WHEELED e-scooters. e-scootets are also available wi😮th other wheel combos: 28/20, 26/26, 28.18, 16/16, and more.
I don't understand...was the thumbnail not clear?
@@TimsElectric The thumbnail shows a scooter with small wheels. But that didn't guarantee that your comparison would be confined to that. I guess I expected your title to read, "Full-Size EBike vs: Small-Wheel EScooter: Which is Better?"
ohhhhh lol I see , thanks I was confused :)
Which escooter does Jess have?
it's a GoTrak...I haven't reviewed one yet :0
Thanks for sharing your experience...scooters are awesome 👌....so to hear of your heart but happy you found a solution 😀
I have a 7.6 round trip commute and am deciding between a mini foldable e bike or e scooter. Decisions, decisions.
can you let me know which you decide? I'm curious. I think it would depend on security , road conditions, hills and weather :)
@@TimsElectric pretty flat for my round trip commute to work and back home and I will let you know then, Tim.

it's funny you did that..I have both and really do use both for different trips :)
I want to buy myself a scooter (apollo ghost), do you suggest me to buy an e bike or an electric scooter If im willing to go on roads ?
I ride my Ghost on the roads (like an ebike) but only on the slower roads..not highways etc :)
I usually ride at about 20mph :)
I think the e-bike presents more of a fitness component. There's a greater potential to burn calories on the bike. Key point u forgot to mention... ✔️
Indeed...in fact I'm going to do another update version of this video and will include that :) :) thank you :)
@Tim's Electric great content by the way... looking forward to making a purchase soon. Still undecided. I have a dirt bike & 2 e-skateboards but want more... lol
it's a slippery slope :)
E bikes wins ofc there's so many pros about E bikes, I got an electric bike for Christmas and I absolutely love it
They're so much fun...unless you don't have a garage to store them safely and live on the top floor of a building without an elevator lol...in which case...the scooter wins for me :)
@@TimsElectric that's very very true, so many pros and cons to everything tbh
@@warwickshiremidlandsweathe9067 Cheers to you across the pond :)
What about pulling weight up a hill?
Do you mean with a trailer?
I choose e scooter because it’s fast has a good range and fun! It can go in a lot of weathers like rain 🌧️:)
Awesome @Fireandicegamerx, I use both ...but prefer the scooter for shorter rides :)
scooters have really small wheels which makes it much easier to crash if you accidentally run over some small stone or something like that. an e bike would just drive right over the thing
You're right Sebbe kartellen, smaller diameter tires can be an issue on potholes in particular :)
00:55 background lady in purple
is it you? :)
I chose my e scooter because the option for e bikes wasn't has good at the time
which scooter did you buy and are you happy with it?
i think that in time that scuterz will have a greater battery capacity and power than bykes
Maybe indeed @scewtersource :) Batteries should get lighter in the next few years I think :)

probably panniers

@@TimsElectric both of them have disadvantages but both are equal!
wise words indeed :)
which one is funner to ride?
scooters ...100%
Subjective. :) Comfort is a large factor. Larger wheels are way more safe.
Cant believe the high end ones cost more than cars and motorcycles
yes indeed @nabi5864, I just saw one at a show for $10,000 !!! :)
0:21 I do the exact same thing lol
stores at first were a bit hesitant but when I pointed out that the carts go in and out of the store anyway... :)
Scooter all the way ! 😃
For me too...most of the time :)
Well said @Dagwood Streets ! I'll have to get you on my video :) :)
the usefulness of the unpowered kick scooter is extremely under rated. they are by far the best "last mile" mobility device in a dense pedestrian populated city.
@@austinballard8867 Facts! With a kick scooter you also burn calories and can bring on an airplane!
Just get an EUC 😊
Awesome @kingdongo4388, for some...I'm too chicken :)
I have both but i do find my scooter more fun to ride than the ebike
@demonocus metalocus there is something more fun about riding a scooter that's for sure :)
You cannot put a electric bike on front if bases where I live
it sure does help here :)
what is the bike used in this video?
it's a Macwheel :) Michael our cameraman has it and loves it :)
@@TimsElectric ok thank you!
you're welcome :)
So it looks like i wont purchase either i cant find out what the legality is of scooters in california and class 2 ebikes cant climb hills so the are useless for where i live
sorry to hear @Datacorrupter234
Love my electric skateboard. Sooo fun !
Awesome @lasse3412
My scooter is 90lbs
she's chunky for sure @absolutelyfookinnobody2843, which one do you ride?
Absolutely eBike. Hell I would say even an electric motorcycle is better. eScooters lack gyroscopic stabilization.
I wonder if they will offer gyroscopic stabilization on Ebikes or Escooters in the future?
@@TimsElectric it's possible to add flywheel, but that's gonna increase weight and less efficient. eScooters without signal lights are dangerous since it's not easy to give a hand signal without holding onto the handle with two hands. Almost had a close call when it lost balance on me.
@@drill_fiend1097 you're right...we do need a better way to convey our intentions to turn without taking our hands off the handlebars :)

Awesome @greenfieldairport, you think I should check it out?
Its an easy choice Uncle Tim... Cops will seize an EScooter; won't bother with an EBike.
Sad to hear @davidmichael3189, where are you that they would seize an escooter?

Obviously eBike since eScooters are banned in the Netherlands
wow @Nielsf-kh1gp, banned? why?
Today's e-scooters go much longer and farther than an E-bike, and much much faster.
Can you imagine what the batteries will be like in Ebikes/Escooters and ECars in a few years? It's pretty amazing already :)
@@markmurto i think we have some time to enjoy the freedom right now...but you're right as they gain in popularity people will jump on and grab the $S
Oh my scooter is MERCANE MX60 is for heavy folks and waterproof.
awesome comment ...five stars...locking ebikes in this town is like going to the casino :)
You win it's still there when you get out of the gym...I wouldn't risk it :)
Plus I push my scooter through stores all the time...no issues...but the ebikes...I'm pretty sure someone would stop me lol :)
oh and Pro tip...when you get into the grocery store grab a basket and put it on the scooter and push it around...it's practically a shopping cart without a squeaky wheel :)
