This spring, I had moved seedlings to a hoop type greenhouse . It got too cold 2 nights, but I didn't want to bring them back in and start over. I covered the shelves with the seedlings with large clear plastic trash bags. I put 2 hand warmers under each bag to give a little extra heat. They survived
I have 2 greenstalk towers! I’m so excited to use them for the first time. I am growing fall veggies in them now on my deck. I’m ready with 6mil to cover during the harsh winter. Thanks for the inspiration, you have validated my experiment expectations!
Thanks so much for sharing this. In Alberta, we have varying temperatures in winter, like Colorado does. That's a very handy and practical way to preserve plants in the winter months. Cheers!
Thank You for the great information on GreenStalk winter protection. I am planning on getting one in the future. I do have containers now though. I will definitely tuck them under a three sided patio for the winter. I always learn something from your videos.
Thank you for the video, G.S. I have a video request. Will you please do one on tool maintenance? I would appreciate easy ways to sharpen tools and remove rust.
Great info Gardener Scott! I plan on (testing) growing things like leafy greens, radishes, etc in my @greenstalk in an unheated greenhouse (zone 7B). Wish me luck 🤞
great video Scott. I've been wondering this exact thing about strawberries in containers. I'm in zone 5b, so have always worried they'd die over winter in containers, even though they survive in ground
Fellow 5B growing zone gardener here, thanks for the tips. I have been wondering how these hold up in cold climates. I am going to buy my first green stalk this year, but had some durability concerns about how they might be impacted by winter weather.
@@GardenerScott Great to know! I just got my first Green Stalk, excited to start using it. I am planning on starting cold hardy greens and then transplanting herbs for a tea garden this summer.
thank you for sharing! I have been wondering about a few of the things you mentioned and appreciate learning; this is my first year with a Greenstalk and I have strawberries wintering over in a couple of the layers...but I was wondering if I was doing it "right"... thank you for the education. :)
With the expense of fresh veggies going I to winter as far as I'm concerned the only thing to do with a GreenStalk is move it inside with a grow light.
Gardener Scott - Another great video. Where did you purchase the plastic bag covers? I have plants and trees in containers I would like to protect better over the winter. Thanks! Gardener Chet
Thanks, Chet. Those covers are available on the GreenStalk site, specifically made for the GreenStalk towers, but are certainly big enough for other containers: lddy.no/kdvq
Can you update and let us know how your strawberries survived? We are in 5b and had a nasty cold winter last year that killed our butterfly bushes down to the stalk.
Have you thought about bringing your green stalk inside in the cold months? Produce, especially herbs, are really expensive and of questionable quality in my small Wyoming town. Do you see a downside to this plan or have any suggestions for success?
I have thought about it but don't have a good spot yet. Lighting is the big issue and protection underneath so the floor isn't damaged. I plan to set up a spot in my basement next year.
Once again, great video. Please keep Greenstalk videos coming!
I like my GreenStalks and I have one with strawberries. Thanks for explaining how to keep your plants alive during winter. TFS

I want one of the new ones this year. Last year I got one for Christmas and I might get another this year .

Exactly what I'm planning to buy for next grow season

That's on my list. I'll see if I can move it up. Thanks for the suggestion.

Also, xmas tree bags from $ store to cover!
For higher zones than 5 or 6
Good tip. Thanks!

Mine hold up well in my 5b climate.

Santa Ana winds this week. It's over 90 in San Diego!

@@GardenerScott - Thanks a million for your response. I'm going to purchase them to cover my large container plants.

My winter was extreme and the strawberries did not do well over the winter. Even the strawberries in my other beds did worse than they have before.
Gardening must be hard in your Zone, I live 80km south of cologne which is Zone 8b (in most winters), even tomatoes grow (outside) till November.
I wonder how many times a week I water my straberries that are in a big laundry basket

Where can I get the winter plastic covering

Gardener Scott, Check out GARDENING IN CANADA and here how their Victory Gardens started during WWII. Could you do one for us here in the U.S.?
I do have a video on Victory Gardens. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/-E6VDOnvHa8/v-deo.html
Gardening with Gardener Scott is getting too expensive. Would be nice if you could show tips for inexpensive gardening.
I scatter ideas in other videos and this one has some ideas of how I save money: ua-cam.com/video/iPo0-KZH6DE/v-deo.html
