Stunning! I was just on Santa Cruz for 3 days at Scorpion with a nice hike over to Smugglers Cove. Santa Rosa. Is definitely on the list for another trip out to the Galapagos of North America!
Thank you so much for taking the time to capture as much footage as possible on this trip. Please read or listen to audiobook "Island of the Blue Dolphins" The story takes place on this island, and I really wish to visit. I love this video because i was specifically looking for video uploads to compare to the children's novel. Island of the Blue Dolphins is also based on historical events Apparently UCSB has skeletal evidence of ancient Giants uncovered in 1900's Thanks again for taking all that time to try and catch everything in one loop ❤
I've been wanting to try Santa Rosa solo because it looks like an amazing adventure. The issue is I don't see being able to do it until end of summer 2022. I hope I can snag a spot out there then.
Watching this video yesterday inspired me to buy Scott O'Dell's Island of the Blue Dolphins today. Island of the Blue Dolphins is a big award winner, but the cover says that it takes place on San Nicholas island. Nope Quote from the book. Chapter 2 "first i should tell you about our island, so you know how it looks, and how our village was..." "..if you were standing on one of the hills that rise in the middle of it. You would think that it looks like a fish. Like a Dolphin laying on its side. " That is Santa Rosa, not San Nicholas
You can pack pretty much anything you want...some people pulled one of those nylon wagons with ice chests. I brought dehydrated food and a small propane backpacking stove. It is a relatively short hike from the pier to the campsite with only one small hill to climb near the campsites. I did bring a 6pack of beer...it stayed somewhat cold with the use of ice packs, but after the 2nd day..not so cold, but still worth the weight.. It's always windy...be prepared for that. Make sure your tent is really tucked inside the wind barrier. They are going to have a great time...it is really a special place. just let them know that the boat returning to Ventura could leave up to 6 hours early(as in my case due to the winds heading back). The rangers will come into the camp early and make sure everyone knows this, unless they leave super early on a hike the morning of the return.
You hit it just Right, A stormy day and then a sunny day.

One of the very few places where you can set the tent and camp on the beach (between August-November). Very good tour, thank you!
Amazing Guy! Beautiful island...thanks for taking me there via video! Your creative work never ceases to amaze me.
