This video has been brilliant. It's shown me exactly what I needed to do and saved me hours of work trying to copy and paste different things into different programmes.
This is really useful for creating small exercises like this, thank you for showing it. When I think of worksheets however, I'm expecting something that students write on. For example, I want to create a worksheet for melodic dictation that gives the key signature, meter signature, the first note (or few notes) and then the exact number of empty measures (with barlines nicely spaced) for the complete melody (anywhere from 3 to 12 measures). I am having a really tough time figuring out the best way to get the spacing right for the empty measures in Dorico right now.
I think you can enter the number of bars you want with the bar popover (Shift+B and then type +24 or any other number) and then use system breaks to space them correctly.
I like the idea do be able to do this within Dorico but I'm really missing standard copy/paste options or even to option-drag (Mac) to copy the different frames. Align frames options should also be pretty a standard feature to make it even more user friendly and faster to work with. Looking forward to the next version!
Hi - is there snap to grid or align frame functionality planned for the next release please? That would make the creation of these types of worksheets a lot easier.
Great video but at around the 2 minute mark you mention that there are no music frame chains set up on the master page. How is that accomplished because I have 3 flows of music that I want to turn into a worksheet but I can't get a blank page in engrave mode as you did when inserting a Master Page Change. I followed each step up until that point in the video. Thank you.
The procedures here are a bit difficult, but it's certainly powerful once you get used to it! In the future, it'd be great if there were a way to more efficiently tell Dorico to start a layout with a new, blank master page.
In v3.5, When working on a master page layout, the music frames are not displaying music. Only when I exit out of the master page editor do I see the music. Is this something that can be toggled on/off in the master page editor? Would be nice to see the music so that I can better judge what size my music regions should be.
I'm guessing this is because the above example using layout music frames and not master music frames - still wrapping my head around that distinction at the moment :)
No it isn't possible to see the music at that point as we don't know which page and therefore which music to show you at that point. It is being considered for the future though, to show a preview of some of your music (and text for text frames).
I have followed this religiously and it doesn’t work on 3.5. When I try to edit the master page, apply and close it, it goes back to the original screen and not the new edited masterpage
Around the 7:25 mark, you mentioned the frame snaps. Does snapping mean it will move to an adjacent frame and both frames will share an edge? I am using DP2 on my MacBook and it does not seem to snap to me. Thanks.
Yes, in the Layout Options > Staves and Systems there is a 'casting off' option where you can specify a set number of bars per system (and systems per page) to get this type of layout.
@@dorico Dear Dorico team, I have dorico pro. thank you for your help. I solved the problem. The problem was I used in the first page a different masterpage as on the other pages. So I changed every page to the same masterpage layout and it works. I try it with both layouts and both works. when others people have this problem this is maybe the solution.
@@dorico there's a worksheet creator in Sibelius over 1700 material covering worksheet, projects, poster and others teaching materials and also templates. You can customize these materials for any size groups and how to use the materials. it covers from Rhythm, Notes, Composition etc.
@@gurumajuindonesia ah yes, I'm aware of that (and was involved a little in it's creation) but in the end we found that most people don't use those and prefer to create their own worksheets for their specific syllabus and needs.
Uhh, seems to be very complicated. I think I´ll copy my exercises into "Word" (as PDF). Disadvantage: If I have to edit anything, I´ll have to go back to Dorico and do all again.
It is way to complicated. Functionality like shown in this tutorial could be implemented in far easier ways. It´s pretty frustrating to say the least.... (Sibelius is not any better....a complete mess)
Uhhh what an incredibly laborious and difficult way of creating a sheet. How does the music come into the frame??? And so on ...totally non intuitive. Why not just writing the name into the frame? Why using an Info Dialogue, to us e token that I need to write? Just write the title into it...
Dorico is a dream when it comes to actually writing music. But alot of basic functionallity (like printing, engraving, transposing, ties and alot more)is implemented in a way which is....well...a complete mess.
This is just simply overly complicated....I love writing music in Dorico, but the implementation of some of the functions in Dorico could easily lead you into insanity.
There is a lot of power with the page templates - a simple worksheet can be done in many ways... maybe this was a complicated version. Let us know if you need help with something - we're available more easily in the Facebook group (facebook.com/groups/dorico) or Dorico forum (www.Dorico.com/forum) where you can share files and images etc too
I agree. I downloaded the trial version of Dorico 5.3 and uninstalled it a few days later. There is no way I can use it. Creating a new music frame must not be more complicated that creating a new text frame, but unfortunately, with master frames, layout frames, frame chains, flows, etc, the music of one frame was automatically overfilled or copied into other frames against my will... I tried for a whole day to create a page with two different music samples, reading helps, articles and videos, in vain. Too many commands hidden inside too many hidden windows and popouts. I was able to easily create a whole excercise book full of music samples in only one day using Finale.
I would LOVE to see another one of these, only more slowly and using Dorico 3.
Amen, brother - only now in 3.5. Please
Really useful way of putting together a worksheet.

Love it. Simple. Bye bye Sibelius. It's been "fun".
watching how fasta and how good it works makes me want to cry of happiness
This was a bible of information! I will constantly be referring to this.

This is a great video but I’m struggling to apply this to Dorico 5! Please update

How do you end up with the five flows at the bottom ?
Has anything changed in Dorico 2.2 regarding the creation of worksheets?
I have been curious about that myself. Have you spotted anything different in the newest versions? Thanks.
I am getting the title, how is he getting the numbers?
Excellent! Have you done a video on the management of tokens, or if not can you please do one? Thanks!
I am not sure what you mean by management of tokens, Roger. I only just watched ua-cam.com/video/fWMexlEUoWY/v-deo.html , if it is helpful to you.

It snaps to the nearest '10' and then continues in '10's. The frames don't currently snap to each other.
I know it's really late, but using Fn + Shift works
@@chelseaelvery thank you. I cannot get it working on my M1 MacBook Pro (yet)

I work with dorico in Windows and the Step at 1:58 doesnt work in my version. what did I miss?
If you have Dorico Pro then the options should be there. They aren't available in Elements though - which version do you have?

more templates for worksheet like in Sibelius and Finale please ..
I think even if we added more worksheets they wouldn't be quite what everybody wants, so in Engrave mode you have full flexibility to create your own.
