The McLaren Elva is a wild ride. McLaren is not the first to remove a windshield from a modern car, but they are the first to combine this with a mid-engined design (in the modern world). The Elva is the lightest modern McLaren ever made (excluding the F1) and has the full 720S powertrain and chassis setup. It has a bespoke carbon fiber tub and body, and the new AAMS system is designed to bounce air around the cockpit up to about 100 mph. The Elva is, simply put, one of the most unique driving experiences available anywhere in the world, at any price.
McLaren arranged for me to have several hours with the Elva. They provided fuel and insurance.

That’s called MSO patina, it’s a $22,000 option. The rust replaces the metal molecules and helps save weight.

My guess it is already melting. Like not really much testing was done. Kind of common issue on McLarens

this POV was so perfect. loved seeing the steering at work while he was mobbing. gives a little more look as to how exactly the car behaves, even though it is obviously just a vid and we cant fully experience it.
When I firstbsaw these top less cars becoming a trend I thought it was stupid, after seeing this video I finally get it. Going 100mph in the sunshine with the wind blasting in your face and a v8 roaring behind you sounds like the best thing I've ever seen. Now we just need an affordable peoples-wagon version please!

Ambient temperature was not to blame for the car’s overheating. It was sooo classic McLaren @9:10 and 11:31.... 8 out of every 10 times I took my 765 out, there was some kind of glitch - some were major, some were not, but all were disappointing. I also got out of McLarens because the brand just seems to be lacking something. Their cars are all basically the same thing in a different state of tune and packaged in a different wrapper. A more (or less) tweaked M838T powers EVERYTHING from the MP4-12C to the P1 GTR LM. Take what Matt said at 5:07 and 5:15 for instance; the heart and soul of an ICE powered car is it’s power train, and every McLaren (aside from F1) essentially has the same mid mounted twin turbo V8 driving the rear wheels. Compare that to Lamborghini, which has three different vehicle lines and three completely different engine layouts; V8, V10, V12, turbo, NA, front engine, mid engine, AWD, RWD... it just gives the brand a sense of a different spirit, a certain intangible quality.
That looks like something out of a George Jetson cartoon!

2 weeks ago I watched the $3M chiron video. yesterday I caught up on the Corolla hatchback, Mazda 3, and Civic videos. Today it’s a $3M Mclaren. Quite the variety haha
Mclaren, Were building like a modern porsche 550 with like 700 horsepower, Matt - 6:39 lol also I wonder if maybe the cooling duct was having its airflow bothered by the air con, like if you look behind your head their almost seems to be vents for the engine built into the area behind the seats, maybe that mixed with the air bubble starved it of air, like no one tested it with both the wind deflector and the air con on in really hot weather.
This is the equivalent of an overhyped Balenciaga shoe.
on another note interesting to see the paint/coating peeling on the back where the McLaren logo is, wonder if thats due to heat or just because it's a test/early car 3:12
Reminds me of a Factory 5 custom I drove a while back, which was basically a barchetta Lotus Exige with 700whp from a supercharged Coyote engine, without a windshield or windows of any kind. I think it weighed somewhere around 2300-2400lbs, but of course wasn't anywhere near as nice as this McLaren. Still, it was insanely fast and scary AF to drive (no driving assistance of any kind).
