- From the SPER archives. Footage taken by the late Ben Parle of vintage Sydney tram operations along what remained of the eastern suburbs lines in the late 1950's. This part looks at services along the Coogee, Bronte, Maroubra and LaPerouse lines. The former two would be closed by the end of 1960, whilst the latter two were closed by February 1961.
When living in Sydney years ago, I met Ben Parle and visited him on several occasions. His collection of tram films was truly excellent. It is great to see that it has all been preserved.
Loved it. My father was a tram driver and we lived around the Maroubra area. So sad they took the trams away. Very efficient transport
I love the old tram videos, they are just beautiful machines
I travelled on those tram routes often as young boy and transport was easy and efficient with great scenic views
I do wish each place had been labelled. Great film. 💕
Such a ridiculously short-sighted decision to eradicate this whole extensive network. Look at what we’re left with, stinking noisy uncomfortable buses.
Spot on .
Just fantastic travelled on these trams going to school loved them. Have you showed any going thru Annandale if not would like to see them. Thank you.
Not Annandale (?) but have seen "Inner West" tram film -- (Would send 'link' but I carelessly did not store it.)
A question please, on watching these videos. At 1 minute, the tram turns slightly to the left, switching from that going straight ahead. Who switches the points, as presumably some trams did go straight ahead ??
