    Nice! Out of curiosity what inverter is installed on 358?

    • @SydneyTramwayMuseum
      @SydneyTramwayMuseum Місяць тому

      There is a power inverter fitted to the car (during a previous refurbishment in the 1980s ) which provides a step down to 24V DC to provide power for auxiliary equipment. As part of the most recent overhaul we have replaced this with a complete new-build unit as the old one had failed completely.

      @SydneyTramwayMuseum OK. Would there be any chance to get some info on the new built inverter? We are trying to restore 372 in Perth but we also have a failed inverter. We have not been able to find a suitable replacement or alternative.

    Thanks I never travelled on the Bondi tram but I rode the second last tram to La Perouse. I was a regular commuter on the La Perouse tram and it cost me a silver thrupence (if I could not bluff the tram conductor). If I managed to dodge the fare I would buy myself a vanilla slice with mock cream.

    The tram rail tracks on the right handside of Glebe Point road running sout to north at 9.12 to 9.22 are partly still there. I hope they remain there as a record to the past. Sydney was a finer place back then - I wish I was around then and not now.

    Great to see that steps are being made to preserve Loftus Junction signal box. It is significant because it is the first signal box in the metropolitan area as the wires used to just start before it if the train was coming from the Wollongong direction. If you look at the brick substation in the background I'm surprised that Mortdale Maintenance Centre was not built at the location of this museum. You guys are lucky to have got this site. Look where Hornsby Maintenance Centre is in relation to the terminus station. You could send an early morning service back to Royal National Park to start the City Circle service there without anyone near the mainline barely noticing like what you do with the trams on that back line.

      Great civilisation - But you may take heart from the fact that whatever were the forces of nature which gave rise to that beautiful civilisation - it was more evolved - and so however far this current reversal extends - some distant civilisation will move towards the same way of life and cityscape which you admire so very much! That same humane, uncomplicated, fully aware, sincere, idealistic and romantic way of life - complete with the sensitively designed architecture - will re-emerge. The grounds upon which I base my prognosis could not be more sound : Ask yourself whether a more evolved man would rather live in the society which inhabited Sydney during the 1930s to the 1950s - Or whether he would prefer to interact with the new generation of petty drudges?

    i managed to ride the Sydney trams a few precious times in the early sixties as a child with my parents. This video took me back to the neighborhoods I knew when I was a student at UNSW and living in the Eastern suburbs. Do you have anything on trams in Strathfield and Homebush, where I spent my childhood years. though I'm not sure if any trams were ever in the Inner West? Thanks for a very nostalgic journey back to my hometown. Really appreciated the details. I've liked and subscribed. From California.
