When I go to sleep I leave my phone downstairs. Wireless charging is used then. Not totally useless. Also I've worn out the USBC charging port and it's a PIA to get time off to have it repaired.
The one plus did exactly what I said someone was gonna do to force Samsung to give us more. It upgraded almost every aspect that Samsung has been slumping on the past 3 phones because there was no competition. Now w/the fold 6 they'll be forced to give a large outer display, more ram, and brighter screen. But that'll just be to match the competition. In order to get the edge I believe they'll find a way to implement the s-pen into the phones design. .
Thank you for your review. At the end of the day, having the larger front screen is what is most appealing about the OnePlus Open. I have the Z-Fold 5 and have had every Fold except the girst one and for the last 4 models they have yet to change the skinny front screen. As a guy with good sized hands, I am totally unable to type on the tiny keypad on the front screen and any time I try to do so, I have to keep back spacing to correct spelling and wording etc because I hit multiple keys or the wrong keys with the buttons so small. I've upgraded year to the next generation but morso out of athletics than anything else. I getting the OnePlus Open for the time being and will see what the Z-Fols 6 looks like. They have had over 5 years now to make the frint screen larger and haven't and because you are hoghtied in the US to only the Fold for a bit and jow just a couple of other folds that can be used in the US without having to work around foreign software etc. we Z-Fold customers have held loyal to the Z-Fold phones. With more choices now its finally worth exploring something new instead of still dealing with the long amd skinny basically useless front screen on the Folds. I will miss wireless charging but with a faster charge time and larger battery, worry of battery life shouldn't be an issue. The larger front screen makes the sale
I've owned both phones. OnePlus is def a better overall phone. This is coming from a Samsung fanboy. OnePlus is just a better phone and I'm glad made the switch.
Camera shots are significatly better on fold5, especially on videos. Software integration and fetures are better also (don't forget dex, s pen, apps integration). Screen is not only in brightness or size and I think that samsung with a little bigger front screen will be closer to perfect than foldabels that are just copying usual phone sizes (what is the point of unfolding it then?). I noticed that video size of youtube or other videos are bigger on fold5 than on open, even tho open have bigger foldable screen, because of that form factor. Of course you can zoom in, but that is not a point. Oneplus never beat samsung in battery life even when it have same mpho or bigger, so I don't doubt that it will beat oneplus open also.
Glad you mentioned that about watching videos. I'm also glad I'm not the only one that noticed that. You get more of a traditional wide screen view on the fold 5 due to it being taller
People keep talking about wireless charging. LOL. Wireless charging is a cool idea. But it's terrible in terms of efficiency. Why would you put your phone down on a charger that's only 5-10W? when you can plug it in and get 67W? Then everytime you pick up the phone from the wireless charger, you're no longer charging it. I don't get it. I was one of the early wireless charger adapter using it back on the S4 days. But then it was sooo slow, I never used it again. Next year, One Plus will have wireless charging at 50W. Now you're talking a level where it can be convenient and efficient. Until then.....wired charging.
I use wireless charging exclusively! I love it. I don’t care about the speed, as long as it’s charged when I wake up in the morning. Also wireless charging is moving to 15W, and many devices already support 15W wireless charging.
I don't have either of these phones. I do use an s23 ultra. While I'm intrigued by the one plus open more than the fold 5, I feel the one plus lost by not including wireless charging. Even though it has faster wired charging. Also, one ui software is better in the fold. Samsung gives the option of using 3 apps at one time at the same time. As well as Samsung offers dex usage. That is also huge.
Honestly curious, do you actually use wireless charging? It's slower and hotter than traditional charging, so I just cannot fathom why people use it. Convenience really isn't a good answer either. With USB C, it takes an extra 2 seconds to plug in.
u didnt mention many extra features of the Samsung like S Pen support and a better service network - better accessories available easily - better software and support - clearly a very very biased review leaning towards the oneplus open - almost seems like you have been paid by oneplus in this comparison - sorry too biased for me!!!
Give the Oppo wireless charging, IP68 and S Pen support and you'd have the perfect foldable. (With Samsung software which is far more feature rich than the Oppo).
This for a boxing match OnePlus came in strong but the Z fold knocked out one plus in the fifth round. The veteran, Galaxy Z fold 5 just has that real-world experience. Having said that Samsung better be on its toes and better come out with something that hits it out of the park because OnePlus 2 foldable can take the crown away from Samsung and all other foldables. OnePlus put everybody on notice.
Can’t agree with you there! I think the OnePlus is a much better device. Plus OnePlus really has experience since this is basically a rebranded Oppo foldable anyway.
It all comes down to preference, you won't really need the max brightness all the time. In my real world use, I just use less than 1/3 of the Max brightness.
I still prefer the z fold 5, why didn't you talk about the s-pen, reverse wireless charging, water resistance, more optimized apps on the z fold, dex, how did you omit those wow, such for a review
Those are all nice to have features. But we Samsung knights gotta push back on Samsung for failing to keep up on the must have features like big battery, fast charging, biggest screen, best cameras. They used to do everything the best, and yeah they charged a high price but it was the everything phone. Cmon Samsung quit being lazy. I want them to take the S ultra and double that b***ch. Twice as big screen, twice as big battery, better camera, make people feel inferior using old tech like the S ultra line in the age of foldables. IDC if it's heavier. IDC if it's thicker. People look at those things and say they're "premium feeling" these days. 😂
It's more about preference than anything. However objectively speaking overall, Samsung is better. I know that this is the phone of the week because it's newly released, and then other reviewers will move on to the next phone. However, there are way more features you get with Samsung than you will with the OnePlus. Didn't mention the stylus, didn't mention Samsung DEX, the Samsung integration with other devices, the carrier discounts. OnePlus has a very nice looking hardware and it has a top of the line stuff for normal phones as seen in a lot of Android devices. But what makes a foldable a foldable is its features not only it's hardware and that's where I feel that Samsung trumps that of all foldable devices. I think if anybody really wants affordable and have a great experience, the fold five is still the best in the market. I know people have preferences of the narrow front screen, and that's fine for someone's preference as if they want some bigger in the front, however if that's your only gripe with the phone then I don't think a foldable at its current price points is not for a lot of people and I think they should stick with the slab phone. I feel like if I get this phone I might as well just keep a normal slab phone and then have a tablet with me because it doesn't offer much of anything other than normal high-end smartphone stuff. I love the way that OnePlus, honor, oppo, xixo All have been pushing the hardware affordables forward, but I truly feel that if you are just looking for a wider bigger front screen, you do not need a foldable and honestly just stick with a normal phone, and it is fine, keep and save your money. Foldables aren't that good for even watching content on. The screen size is almost the same as a normal phone, and the normal phone fills the screen up way better than the foldables. To truly enjoy a video, you would have to zoom in and crop out a lot of information on the screen. Foldables are great for gaming, multitasking, work etc. But if all you do is just scroll social media and watch a couple of videos on UA-cam, then foldables aren't for you and my humble opinion. Great video I have subscribed by just one of the voice my opinion.
Dude, Oneplus open has better multi-tasking than z-fold 5. There's no way a foldable user should keep a phone and a tablet separately. Such a bad take on the entire situation. Downplaying samsung's front screen while making it sound like the creative open canvas feature is nothing special on the OnePlus. I do agree that I'll miss dex and stylus on my s23 ultra when I trade it in the next 2 days for the Oneplus Open, but these two features I've used maybe less than 10 times in the last 6 months that I've used my phone so its also user preference at the end of the day.
@@gokuafricawell it seems like you made up your mind since you're trading it in and kudos to you. But on Fold 5, you have the edge panel always available and with the multiple windows you can have open, you can also have them multiple more apps open and ready with the bubbles feature. I see on the OnePlus that the main draw is that a third app is at the bottom and you tap it and it puts it on the main screen? Are people not aware you can do that same thing on the Fold 5 and is it that much of a hindrance to switch over? The only thing I see reasonably see someone maybe switching over is for the camera or the cover screen as personal preference and that's cool, but other than that, I don't understand unless someone just really don't like Samsung or trying to be a contrarian. And also, I'm not saying that a foldable user needs to have a phone and tablet. Samsung support is still, at least in the US, way better than OnePlus, trade in value is way higher, you get more features which this video doesn't cover and just appeasing to OnePlus fans instead of putting out facts. Also, what I'm saying is that if you only use the phone for just social media and watching videos, a foldable may not be for you. If OnePlus had a stylus support on the front and main screen, something similar to DEX, readily available hardware support, edge panel, bubbles, Goodlock, galaxy store, the comfortablity of being one handed folded, camera software, reliable ecosystem, and some other stuff I'm probably forgetting, Id change over. But for now, I'll keep my Fold 5 😎😎😎
@@gokuafrica I defended OnePlus' lack of wireless charging, but you're wrong here IMHO. I used the Open for a week and the Z Fold 5 was the much better and more intuitive multi tasking foldable. If you are mainly using it as a media consumption device, the Open is the better choice. If you are using it to actually perform work tasks, the Z fold is the choice. Red Lizard is not wrong about keeping the phone and tablet separate. I use a tablet as a media consumption device and my phone as a work task device. With the Open, I'd be giving up ease of use for work for a media consumption device and then still have to carry a device suitable for work tasks, while giving up size as a media consumption device. I'd much rather carry the smaller Z Fold 5 for a work and task device and a larger tablet for a media consumption device than carry the Open as a smaller media consumption device and a tablet as a work and tasking device.
I'd argue that in 2023, there's plenty of excuse for the lack of wireless charging and I'm not saying this as a OnePlus fan. I don't and have never owned one and I don't plan on owning one. Wireless charging is just a lemon not worth the squeeze right now. It's too slow and too hot currently. If they can double or even triple wireless charging speeds while mitigating heat, then it would be worth it. Almost all of my phones for nearly the last 15 years have had wireless charging, starting with the Palm Pre (if anyone remembers that). I gave it a shot then and continue to occasionally give it a shot through the years, but it's just not worth the slower charging speeds and heat (which do effect overall battery life expectancy). It takes me an extra 2 seconds to plug it in for nearly double the charging speed even on low watt charging phones. My argument as someone that used the Open for a week, I find the Z Fold a far more capable and intuitive work task device. I have always kept my work task devices separate from my media consumption devices, so using the Open as a daily would have meant I was sacrificing work tasking for media consumption and would need another device for the work part of it. So then I'd also be sacrificing my media consumption device since the Open is smaller and not as well suited for it as a tablet. My Z Fold 5 right now is my work task device and it does that extremely well. My Tablet is my media consumption device. I travel a lot and have not had to carry a laptop in ages. With DEX, if I need a bit more real estate it's always easily available. 99% of the time it's not necessary though.
A very bias review. Why didnt you compare theIPX rating? Why didnt you give a point to samsung for the hinge stability? Where is the flex mode on the One Plus? Also, Samsug should get a point for handling the cover screen seperate from the larger display inside, it mkes a huge difference & you'll know if you've used a fold.
Don't forget the s-pen on the Samsung phone. Also Samsung has Dex compatibility with a monitor. I wish Samsung have done on their fold 5 with what oppo has done on their open in terms of aspect ratio and battery capacity and charging speed. Hopefully on their 6, we can see this and I can upgrade from my fold 4. Otherwise, I'm going to defect to the open 2 next year 😅
@efechief2659 wonder why they don't highlight this point and why they dont include the pen in the box. This would change my perspective on the oneplus open. Most of the popular youtuber didnt mention this in their reviews. Would definitely change my standpoint as a Samsung fan asince the 1st note to the fold. Very disappointed with Samsung for not doing what oneplus has done o the open.
@@georgeho5369 I'm not sure why, but in similar fashion, they pushed the 7 Pro's water resistance through word of mouth marketing. Personally, I prefer the candy bar design, but it's not a challenge for them to make the screen bigger. Innovation would be a lighter, thinner Z with a larger mah battery. I'm not confident they can do all three.
Why Samsung Fold 5 may be a better choice 1. OnePlus Open price is absurdly high 2. Unreliable software updates and non-resolving green line issues after updates. Remember OP still is 1st gen fold 3. Pathetic after sales service 4. Even though screens are bigger than fold 5, the aspect ratio while watching Netflix or prime video is more in fold than open. So more big black bars in OP open 5. Open canvas is novel but in 2 side by side apps, there is no option to resize each app. It is set to 50:50 in split screen 6. Inner screen apps mirror outer screen as default and u can't have different inner and outer screen apps or widgets 7. Camera even though looks bigger in open, undoubtedly fold camera has better outcome and so many photo editing options 8. S-pen is really good if u know how to use it. Similarly wireless charging. 9. Samsung Pay/Wallet is very practical in available countries 10. Hinge stays in all positions unlike open 11. Screen colours are better in fold than open
@@africansavagekd1 In India, both Samsung fold 5 and OnePlus open now cost nearly the same. Fold is even getting a S-pen case free for the same price if purchased from Samsung website or app
I never understood why tech reviewers get upset at a lack of wireless charging. Its slow, inefficient and 10 mins plugged in most phones gets you the extra juice you usually need. Especially when it makes the phone cheaper im in. I have never had a single friend tell me about using a wireless charger, its a gimmic that never took off.
Who cares. I fully charge phone in 40 mins. Once you realize how convenient it is. The wireless BS goes out the window. Also the battery last much longer so I no longer have to carry a charge pack. Because this phone lasts the entire day..and if I need to charge up before going out. It literally takes 20 min and I'm out the door. I've owned both phones..then OnePlus is just a better phone for a cheaper price. Period
The Google Pixel Fold is better than both of those phones. Think about it Google is the Maker of Android so Android looks and feels better on Google Pixel Fold. Pixel Fold also takes better Photos as High Megapixels can't touch the Camera software of Google. The only areas where these two phones beat the Pixel Fold is the Camera looks better on the One+ Open, the video recording is vetter on the Samsung Z Fold 5, Samsung has an S Pen capabilities, All three phones are very great in Multitasking but these two phones are slightly better at multitasking than the Pixel Fold, the One + Open has three Speakers and Google has two like Samsung but the Samsung Z Fold 5 has better Sound Quality in its Speakers. The User Experience is by Far Google Pixel Fokd. The Screen on the front is wider which means the Flex mode is bigger Screen and bigger typing screens. I think we all know who the winner is! It comes down to Personal Preference. Every Foldable needs to be wide like the Google Pixel Fold and tall like the Z Fold 5. Combine everything and give us the greatest phone ever built
ok so first i don't know if you are bias towards one plus but wireless charging is important for people that want to have there phone for years it matters cause it doesn't hurt battery. second performance the fold 5 has a ramped up chip for galaxy phones so that's more power then the one plus open. next the fold 5 as s pen support and samsung dex and that means alot to people and it matters but of course not brought up 🤔
Just because the interior screen is larger on the One Plus, doesn't mean the software is optimized for that screen. It's not. Your video proves that by showing far larger black bars on the screen of the One Plus when compared to the Fold 5, while the images themselves are identical in size on both. You left out the S-Pen, that immediately makes the productivity on the Samsung superior to the One Plus. You didn't mention video quality, and the lack of good image stabilization on the One Plus, weakens it. Another thing you didn't touch on much was durability. MKBHD's (Marques Brownlee) had the screen fail on his One Plus unit in the very first week. Not good. Also, it's 2023 and the One Plus lack of wireless charging in my mind doesn't put it on par with the Fold 5 to justify a "tie" score with it in terms of battery/charging. The Fold 5 is clearly superior in this respect.
5th generation and they still have not got it right still far too narrow when closed, still far too small overall when open, what the hell are Samsung playing at......
Does the One+ have as much bloatware as Samsung has????? I own a zfold and the bloatware is horrendous. Almost all of Samsung bloatware CANNOT be paused or deleted per Samsung telling me that to my face.
Funny how people care about wireless charging. I mean, you can't really play a game while it wireless charge, can you imagine tapping your screen like a madman/woman playing Mortal Kombat while wireless charging? No you can't. To me, it's useless and adds to the bill.
i will just wait for about a year more before buying a foldable phone so that it improves more and more........and there will be less chance of any kind of problems with the inner screen and all that stuffs..... I don't wanna buy a expensive phone and get insecure
That's the OPPO find N3 and it's not on any carrier which makes it not as accessible as samsung OR Google. AND you'll have to import a Pen if they don't make one for here. 😢. I like it tho but it's a 3rd Gen device......just not here in the states.
Actually it's Oppo's 3'd generation.
Wireless charging is useless because it's so slow you don't need wireless charging when you got a charger that charges the phone in 25 minutes

Samsung still beats OP but you cannot compare 1st Gen product to 5th Gen products
Otherwise, I'm going to defect to the open 2 next year 😅
One plus has s-pen support.
Why Samsung Fold 5 may be a better choice
1. OnePlus Open price is absurdly high
2. Unreliable software updates and non-resolving green line issues after updates. Remember OP still is 1st gen fold
3. Pathetic after sales service
4. Even though screens are bigger than fold 5, the aspect ratio while watching Netflix or prime video is more in fold than open. So more big black bars in OP open
5. Open canvas is novel but in 2 side by side apps, there is no option to resize each app. It is set to 50:50 in split screen
6. Inner screen apps mirror outer screen as default and u can't have different inner and outer screen apps or widgets
7. Camera even though looks bigger in open, undoubtedly fold camera has better outcome and so many photo editing options
8. S-pen is really good if u know how to use it. Similarly wireless charging.
9. Samsung Pay/Wallet is very practical in available countries
10. Hinge stays in all positions unlike open
11. Screen colours are better in fold than open
Samsung price is highe tf you on about
@@africansavagekd1 In India, both Samsung fold 5 and OnePlus open now cost nearly the same. Fold is even getting a S-pen case free for the same price if purchased from Samsung website or app
Gonna wait for the second open just to see if people are having some reliability issues along the way. Very good review though sir!
Oneplus crushed the samsung 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I never understood why tech reviewers get upset at a lack of wireless charging. Its slow, inefficient and 10 mins plugged in most phones gets you the extra juice you usually need. Especially when it makes the phone cheaper im in. I have never had a single friend tell me about using a wireless charger, its a gimmic that never took off.
That’s completely untrue. I use it almost exclusively and plenty of people are the same. It’s way more convenient, too.
The One Plus is a winner. BUT... the lack of actual Wireless charging on that phone... keeps the One Plus out of my hands for another year.
wireless charging is freaking slow. use a charger much faster
Combine everything and give us the greatest phone ever built
ok so first i don't know if you are bias towards one plus but wireless charging is important for people that want to have there phone for years it matters cause it doesn't hurt battery. second performance the fold 5 has a ramped up chip for galaxy phones so that's more power then the one plus open. next the fold 5 as s pen support and samsung dex and that means alot to people and it matters but of course not brought up 🤔
Let's assume that One Plus out performs The Z Fold 5... What Does that discovery do for Z Fold users who are happy with their Samsung device purchase?
You should include customer support and service... Samsung repair and service is everywhere. OnePlus is a nightmare.....based on experience
Lol, your review was extremely biased.
OnePlus precio en Europa 1899€. No tiene carga inalámbrica, S-pen, Dex,.
You didn't talk about S pen capability of fold 5 and at this time u can find fold 5 at 1400 usd too. Its so confusing which one is better
One plus is obviously better
Ouch. Really? What bloatware?
Nope it has less bloatware!
I like the one plus open because if my inner screen breaks for some reason I can just use the outside like a regular phone.
the software chapter could have been 3x longer, that;s the most imp
Well i prefer my pixel fold much compatible and easy to typehandwritte, its a perfect phone for me.
I prefer fold 5
I prefer z fold 1
I prefer Nokia 8810
Z fold 5 by far
Why you dont have 100000 views ?
Samsung still king 🤴🏾
Of what?
You couldn't pay me to use a samsung foldable
That's the OPPO find N3 and it's not on any carrier which makes it not as accessible as samsung OR Google. AND you'll have to import a Pen if they don't make one for here. 😢. I like it tho but it's a 3rd Gen device......just not here in the states.
Does the OnePlus have a proprietary 🖊 pen?
Lol 😂 it's there 4th foldable phone from bbk
Dex ....spen......wins it for me.
Show mobiles not your face again and again😂
No water resistance, no spen, no wireless charging, identical screens with no option, I think not
Samsung is the winner
You forgot to mention it includes the power brick
