Just purchased one...many many years saving, im not a rich man, and i have a forgiving better half. Mines in the black and red interior. Just my dream car...and its never being sold
That’s the best opening 20 secs of any YT video ever. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this over the years. 981 Spyder definitely a bucket list car for me too. ❤️
I just watched for the second time and am totally convinced I'd buy the Spyder before I ever thought of getting a GT4. For me, not having that wing on an everyday driver is one of the biggest reasons. You've got a great UA-cam car channel, Brian. Keep up the great work.
Lucky owner of one of these. The front is REALLY low and literally scrapes on everything. But it's a cheap plastic part that costs a few hundred to replace, so I'm okay. The engine is incredible, but does lack low-end torque, thanks in no small part to the long gear ratios of 2nd and 3rd. I love this car and hope to keep it for a long time.
The problem with the aftermarket shorter final drive is that it makes the gear spacing so short that you can't really use 2nd gear on the track at all and you often get stuck between 3rd and 4th.
@@mikeokhravi3321 My understanding is from Alex Ross founder of Sharkwerks with ‘The Smoking Tire’ host in a UA-cam video. I just drove this car tonight. My uncle just fixed it up from auction . Love it. Maybe I’ll ask to take it out on my anniversary with my wife:) awesome ride👌
Great channel and production value from fellow Canadian and film maker.... and Porsche driver.. lol. good work Brian and Nick.. nice touch at the end. Now i want to trade my 911 in.. grrrrr
Though I'm a coupe guy and own a 2016 Cayman as my everyday driver, I love the looks of the Spyder more than any other Porsche. And, I love the GT4, but would buy the Spyder before I'd plunk down my money on the coupe. I just don't like huge, fixed wings! Great review and the video quality was spectacular.
+Mark Simonetti Hi Mark, I have indeed. The GT4 is great and it feels like it deserves the GT3 motor, rather than the old 3.8. With the Spyder, you get the full sensory experience. I've already got a race car and don't need one for the road, hence my preference for an amazing roadster.
How come a channel with so small number of subscibers have one of the highest production qualities? Are you guys sponsored by someone bigger or just very passionate and gifted when it comes to production and cinematic quality? :)
+Intraframe The numbers suggest that UA-cam favours a mix of low quality and high quantity over high production values. Any vids we publish that don't meet our normal standard are identified that way. No "one takes", no pretending that we're not using footage provided by the manufacturer. We're only interested in quality, otherwise we wouldn't be doing it. Thanks for watching!
+Brian Makse Totally get it. :) I'll also rather have 1 good video / week than 10 crappy ones. Even if I don't even like a certain car in your videos, I keep on watching til the end since the cinematic and production quality is so high, something that only a very few number of channels succeed with. So keep on doing what you're doing. :)
+Intraframe Its funny since I consider this one of our medium productions. I kept the camera in 1080p and did not do post work on the colour grading of the film. I kind of need to pick and choose what cars to spend more or less time on. There is no sponsorship here sadly, its all just a labor of love by the small three person team. I up the production qualities on cars we get early access to that I think will do favorably. You might have noticed this trend in the DB9 GT and 675LT videos. They are easy to spot as they are 4k uploads with super wide aspect ratios. Anyways viewership is the largest issue I think we face these days, the more help we get from the fans the more inclined I am to spend time on these side projects.
+Nick Busato Hehe, well then you should just take my comment as a big compliment. :) I would say I'm pretty picky when it comes to quality and sure, I'd love to have this vid in 4K (or in a higher res) so I atleast can show it in 1440p on my monitor, it just make it a biiiit sharper. This video did not really need any grading or even contrast adjustment imho, I think it was really good. :) Hopefully you'll gain viewers faster as time goes by. I know there are more people like me that loves cars but also care alot about the production behind the video.
I was kind of sad that I did not film it in 4k having seen some of the shots. We only uploaded 675LT, Pacifica, Lambo Spyder and DB9GT in 4k. Viper ACR, ATS-V, CTS-V and RC-F were filmed in 4k, but down sampled to 1080p for youtube.
Thank you for the terrific review. I took delivery of my Spyder in October in Guards Red. But that white looks stunning. The only disadvantage to the car is you need to be following it to hear the sound fully. But I'd still rather be in the driver's seat :-) Thanks again.
Guards Red is a bold and properly classic choice. Well done. Glad we could capture the sound at roadside, but you're right. It's best enjoyed from the cockpit.
started motivation monday with porsche search, saw one on the market, stumbled on this video....great content, wish porsche mass produced to drop prices.
Thanks Brian and OMG fabulous best machine on the market. Its insane beautiful, looks like a mini Speedster just far better dimensions. My personal best car ever till the 718 Spyder, N.A. 450 hp, 6 speed manual, the Miami Blue looks insane. To bad Porsche priced them way higher for 2023,
Brian, Great reviews as always!! I had a deposit down on both the GT4 and the Spyder and ultimately went with the GT4 which I will be picking up at the end of the month...I just wish I could have had the money to buy both as they strike me as so similar and so different at the same time. The GT4 has won accolades the world over with top picks my car magazines as a top road car and even second place in dedicated track car battles...I think the Spyder is an unsung hero because Porsche released them both in the same model year. it seems you like convertibles a lot....if it was your money what would you have chosen??? SAVE THE MANUALS!!!
+Three Pedal Rebel of the two, this is my choice. I already have a race car, so I don't need one for the street. I've driven the GT4 and it's a wonderful car, but this is a really special driving experience.
+Brian Makse I have the manual as I sorta - own one. No limit. Only limit for speed is if you put the tyres into "comfort mode" with lower cold pressures. The limit then is 200Km/h.
Brian Makse Nothing is worse than Burlington Street in Hamilton where I work. Hamilton has the worst streets in southern Ontario. Thankfully I live in Niagara.
They are not GT3-esque. The front and rear are 100% the same as GT4 (body not suspension). The brakes are from the 911 S - not the 911. The rear also has torque vectoring and the top is usable to top speed - up or down. NO SPEED LIMIT ON TOP.

Nice review and nice video...as the owner of a brand new white Spyder delivered a month ago today, it probably isn't surprising that I feel the same way as you about the car. Just curious, it look like you tested the car last Fall? Since you just published it, it made me wonder if we were about to see a wave of reviews. For some reason, there are almost no review by North American outlets large or small, other than a few from the press intro event in Hawaii around Christmas. No instrumented tests that I can find at all. Weird, since most new Porsche models don't lack for exposure. Anyway, I liked it, shared, I subscribed. More of the same, please.
+John Yacoub Thanks, John! Indeed. This video kept getting pushed back for a whole host of reasons. That said, we've got a lot of great stuff coming, including the new 911 in a few weeks. Stay tuned and thanks for subscribing!
Why did you sit on this one all winter? Noticed it was filmed in the fall. Can't wait till they put the 4-cylinder turbo engine in this! Oh wait yes I can. That will suck.
In every way - except day to day usability. If it's going to be a second or third car, Spyder. If it's going to be a daily driver, GTS, unless you can keep the top down all the time. Hope that helps.
hah you could put those seats in a Ford Pinto and that alone would make the car excellent! So yeah I respectfully disagree. Besides when the top of the Spyder is down and one can see the carbon seats along with the body color matched roll hoops it just adds a very racy touch to the overall appearance of the car. But anyway great review of the car. The exhaust sound was captured beautifully!
Ok got your point but let's say you did not have a race car and you could only have one car, not to have to use as a daily driver but to drive on weekends either on Backcountry Ontario roads north of Toronto and maybe 3-4 track days per year at the most...then why would be your pick😃...sorry to put u on the spot
+Three Pedal Rebel I can't answer that for anyone else. For a second, fun car, my choice is the Spyder, but I wouldn't track it because I've got race cars for that. Some people may desire the perceived protection that a steel roof offers, but I don't. Spyder trumps GT4 for me.
All of their new, high volume engines are turbocharged and small displacement in order to meet emissions and fuel consumption regulations. This is true for nearly every volume car maker.
+Brian Makse I understand that. I know most European companies are down sizing for emissions. What i was trying to say is, im sad Porsche wasn't able to keep the same engine for the newer generation cars
No A/C or a properly functional top makes takes away from being the "perfect" roadster. Don't get me wrong, the Spyder is actually my favorite Porsche of all time, but these are pretty burdensome flaws. You can ONLY use this vehicle on perfect days. That's it.
Just purchased one...many many years saving, im not a rich man, and i have a forgiving better half. Mines in the black and red interior. Just my dream car...and its never being sold
Congratulations. Well done and undoubtedly well deserved.

That's it.
