This is a man jamming out with his guitar, pouring out a piece of his heart and soul, sharing that with anyone who chooses to listen. It's about the love of the music, the meaning, the message.
+Cara Woodson I AGREE. This his a musician interpreting a song, making it his. Feeling it. If a connection is established in the end with the public, that's another matter. If there was no original and this was the first to appear, I'm guessing people would love it. The unfairness of it is that is not the case. And a first love was established when Simon and Garfunkel opened their mouths back in '64.
+Cara Woodson EXACTLY! As a musician, I think I enjoy this guy and his guitar so much because of just that; everything is slave to story. And this guy tells the most heartfelt and genuine stories. You can have the best players in the world, but if they can't communicate through their instruments, the music is empty.
I don’t think that’s the BEST thing about this performance. Due to the song’s title ‘The Sound of Silence’ it’s befitting in 2 aspects that he asked, and they obliged - giving both him and the song the respect they each deserve!
What a shame about all those people who missed out on the beautiful atmosphere this song created, because they were too busy focussing on recording it on their phones. If they wanted to see a recording, they should have just looked at UA-cam. You guys missed out on soaking up all that the song offered. Amazing rendition, Passenger.................just beautiful.
This is such an intense and honest cover version. It is not about being better than the original, it's about honoring the original by giving such a sincere performance. Good for you, Passenger.
Man, when he drops “can’t you see that we’re lost” at the end, it really looks like he’s about to tear up. Totally immersed in the song and the moment. Gets me every time.

People need to stop thinking artists make covers to out-do the original instead of just paying homage to a masterpiece. Take it at face value and stop comparing music.
+Marc-Étienne Bernier you should, if u havent already, listen to disturbeds cover of this song. it is brilliant. the voice, the deep voice of david draiman ist just absolutly fantastic and matches the song like even S&G made it in their time. absolutly one of the best covers and emotional covers i heard so far. im glad that i had the chance to hear it.
@@anthonygallegos5826 I love to listen to covers of this song, and ofcourse EVERYone is doing DISTURBED's version.... but I am noticing that too many peops are NOT aware of who actually created this MASTERPIECE out of a great song.

I don't think his intention was to be on the same level of Simon and Garfunkel. He took one of our favorite songs (even me as a 90s kid) and played a passionate performance that moved me to tears. Us as artists do not try to be exactly like the original artist if we play covers, its to pay tribute to the song because we think it's damn amazing and give it our own spin. I think it's a beautiful thing.

I've had some of the best nights of my life at Passenger concerts. Mike is a man of genuine talent and has a heart of gold, I've never seen such lovely transitions and how he has a gift of moving the audience. I remember the beginning chords of "Sound of Silence", how you could drop a pin and hear it over the guitar, and how it crescendoed, hundreds of hands clapping in sync and singing. Passenger singing my Parents fav song sound of silence. This guy has an amazing tone to his voice I can never listen too long before he has me in tears. That is what is known as unbelievable talent.
Wow….I’ve grown up on the Simon and Garfunkel version but this is also so powerful, I could see the emotion. I agree with what others have said…this isn’t a competition, this song obviously inspired him and he’s performed an amazing tribute x
I could listen to this song a thousand times, which I have. It has a new meaning each time. A nuance you missed before. Each person singing adds just a little bit more to it. A timeless piece that will live as long as there are artists who have a soul and add their own touch to this song.
The first time I heard this version of the song was when I watched passenger live 7 years ago. It is the first time a piece of music has brought tears to my eyes and made me emotional. I love this outstanding version.❤

Do the vocal experts of the world say to keep away from 'cover versions' unless you make it better or unique.....case in point. "Thank YOU so much" Thoroughly enjoyed that, and probably will, many times over x
I’ve listened to S&G since birth (1966), and I think Passenger has done a great rendition. Paul Simon’s words, with Passenger’s own emotion and textures. The acoustic guitar jam inside the body of the song made me think of Richie Haven’s “Freedom”.
Who would not want to have there soul caressed by this fantastic piece of music.... we live in an amazing time where a song you've heard 100 times before sounds brand new.

Ava Minutello Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately passion is what the music industry is thoroughly lacking in this day and age, same goes for us listeners, if you think of it.
Honestly, I love listening to Passenger when I feel lost, I mostly listen to metal, classic rock, and hard rock, but man do his songs and covers strike a chord with me. No pun intended
I was not expecting his singing voice. Interesting. But I wish the video would stay on his face. This performance is the first one I have found where the emotions in the song are truly in the performance.
his voice.. his intonation... his emotion.... Make me remembered my first concert of Art and Paul... Really good job bro.. no joke, truly from my deepest heart. Wish I was there... AFTER EDIT: I was just realize that emotion really really GREAT!!! Best I've ever seen in my LIFE!
Simon & Garfunkel Lyrics "The Sound Of Silence" Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone ‘Neath the halo of a streetlamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dare Disturb the sound of silence “Fools” said I, “You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you” But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said “The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence”
Mike is a genius Never heard this man sing a song i song like He pour his heart and soul to who wants to connect to his sound That’s why his music soothes the soul
Over the years I’ve learned that in fairness to myself but more importantly “the Art” comparisons of one artist’s work to another is a terrible thing for me to do. I’m cheated and the artists as well. Doing so would be like comparing apples to oranges or Picasso to Van Gogh! I’ll leave those judgements to Theater critics. Every artist has their own interpretation and would be offended to know that their art was looked upon that way! There’s almost nothing to compare either one to. Heck I’m doing that I might as well compare Dave Matthews to Hendrix. Personally I like them both. They couldn’t sound more individualistic or different!
I hate that he seems to forget that Garfunkel is the "other half". As an artist, he's got to realize that the song/lyrics are only 1/2 the reason a song skyrockets to a level that this song did....If Garfunkel's voice wasn't singing this song, it wouldn't be the hit that it is.
This is a man jamming out with his guitar, pouring out a piece of his heart and soul, sharing that with anyone who chooses to listen. It's about the love of the music, the meaning, the message.

Shout out to one of the greatest silent sounds that ever lived.
Honestly, I love listening to Passenger when I feel lost, I mostly listen to metal, classic rock, and hard rock, but man do his songs and covers strike a chord with me. No pun intended
Try listening to Disturbed singing this.
I was not expecting his singing voice. Interesting. But I wish the video would stay on his face. This performance is the first one I have found where the emotions in the song are truly in the performance.
From Netherlands?
Best version of this old classic🎉
his voice..
his intonation...
his emotion....
Make me remembered my first concert of Art and Paul...
Really good job bro.. no joke, truly from my deepest heart.
Wish I was there...
AFTER EDIT:
I was just realize that emotion really really GREAT!!!
Best I've ever seen in my LIFE!
This may be one of the Best Covers of All Time. Powerful and Absolutely Flawless.
Are you including David Draiman/Disturbed's version in that??????
Wow, what a version, so personal and passionate, superb and unique!
Oh my days, I am crying a river here. Never heard of Passenger before, but boy what a dude.
His voice is mesmerizing...Seriously the voice of ages. Incredible
Simon & Garfunkel Lyrics
"The Sound Of Silence"
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a streetlamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dare
Disturb the sound of silence
“Fools” said I, “You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you”
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said “The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence”
Passenger plays and sings with respect this touching Sound of Silence! You make it awesome good!

Unreal..what a guitar player entertainer and what an amazing voice…you made this song your own….🌈🎶🌈🎶
Mike is a genius
Never heard this man sing a song i song like
He pour his heart and soul to who wants to connect to his sound
That’s why his music soothes the soul
Must say I love Passenger! Please listen to Sound of Silence by a Touch of Class. You will be blown away.
Keep coming back to this. Absolutely blows the original out of the water.
One of the greatest voices of this generation.
2020 and this is still a masterpiece, hats off to the legendary PASSENGER
you mean the legendary Paul Simon, I think. an exquisite interpretation
could not agree more! especially now.
He butchered the original song, he destroyed a masterpiece
2021 and its still holding strong!
@@overratedgob still a mocking of the original
OMG...are cover's like this that make us shiver and believe that the musical quality continues to increase ... just awesome!
i like the disturbed cover more - its got more power - but this one is real awesome, too !!
I can't get over his voice omg
Y
Paulo Fernandes to answer your question. No
Hallow passengers, man plays the song that truly heals the soul with the tender music and voice....❤💯
Best cover of this song ever
It took a minute, but the passion he puts forth really works for me.
If this song doesn't come from his heart, then he is a great actor. I think he's actually for real on this.
What an amazing cover of a song that I didn't think could be "covered".
I reckon he stated the writer of the song. Not the the artists.
Well if you liked this version wait till you hear it done by Disturbed.....mic drop
Disturbed cover is the best one far better than original though original is itself exception. But I really respect this man. He is very talented
@@sushilkhadka2467 Nothing is better than the original.
Great rendition of The Legendary song - The Sound of Silence... Just ... Beautiful!
This song is immortal.
Omg,angel voice...👍👍👍
