Thanks Marc. This was the question I posted from the last Ask Dave episode and I could tell you were interested in it also and looked like....yeah, are there any clips for us to hear (of Dave's original 68 Plexi and tone he hears in his head?)! When Dave suggested there was, I was wondering if from the old James Lugo clips also! :) Starts at are 12:24 for anyone interested in going right to it. It's a great Rock tone with pronounced Mids. It's got a lot of sizzle and saturation on the top end. Wondering why soo much? Is 6CA7s used instead of EL34 and/or just because everything one "10" and/or because of the variac and squashing things and adding saturation?? Dave'll have to give a little more insight in to that, but in any event....here it is for those interested!
Oh, one other comment...as the video has the Dirty Shirley in it, if you A-B it and go back and forth between the Dirty Shirley and 68 Plexi (as opposed to the others)....they actually DO sound very close!! :O Try the others and the 68....not so much!! :O
I texted Davd. He said they were the JJ EL34's at the time! - fyi I agree with them sounded fantastic also at the time and quality was running strong at the time, so still have a couple amps with those power tubes in the studio as I liked them so much. Besides other characteristics, I found the bottom to be nice and tighter and not loose and flubby, so dug them! :)
I have Laney VH100R and love that amp. Supposedly JCM800 based with a really nice big spring reverb box, flexible effects loop, some handy channels and boost options. Perhaps a bit too much distortion even. And the best of all, a beautiful sparkly clean channel in a distortion mainly amp.
Great show. Don’t forget to also support your small guitar businesses as well, Sweetwater is great and all, but a lot of the smaller stores who carry Products could really use the business right now, not just the mega stores.
Hi guys! LOVE the videos! Recently Dave said he wished he could sit down with someone in a room and just show them how he would uses a 1 Channel amp. I would love to see Dave make a video of how he uses a 1 channel amp. Do you think he would consider doing that?
I am a fan of this show since episode 1. But Mark you guys should book guests and have some replacement guests in reserve that are friends. Otheryoutubers could help. Geez there are so many grear artists out there from pedal builders, guitar players, or people in the music business. Wish you guys the best.
These Ask Dave episodes are great. I would take them every time. There have been some great guests as well. There are some episodes that have been clunkers because the guests don’t have anything interesting to say. Just because someone is in a band or on UA-cam doesn’t mean they have a real passion or knowledge of gear. Would much rather have ask Dave than that. Keep up the good work guys
@@tone-talk couldn't agree more I think it's almost unanimous that we all love these ask Dave episodes would bet the house that 99% love every episode! Cheers all
@@tone-talk would you consider a "rig builder roundtable" with several rig builders all shooting the sh*t with Dave? For the viewers like us it would be gold to get them all talking about the best cables, power, pedals, and pedalboard gear etc. This would be amazing! Get LA Sound Design, Omilion Audio, Bradshaw, Yuki from FTT, Rig Doctor, Pete Cornish, Goodwood...all the cats in the same Zoom chat and see where it goes!
Here’s the link to the James Lugo Amp Shootout part 1 with Dave’s plexi and a variac at the end

@@RozsaAmplificationLLC I actually think the 50 watt Marshall and the Ceriatone sound best in that clip.

Watching the replay guys!! Thank you for doing this!!!
The Suhr Doug Aldrich sounds amazing in single coil mode.
Always a great show!
Link to the Lugo amp shootout? I have been searching and find others but not that one.

Damn Marc. You broke the golden rule... You bought a Soldano without asking Dave. Lol

Any chances in getting a “smaller box” a 20 watt small box with a plexi clean or “little sister” amp a 20 watt twin sister?
Will Eric be on the show soon?
😂😂😂 yeah right. Not a chance in hell. He’s a tool.
@@tone-talk best comment ever! Happy Holidays to you!
@@shawncosby3361 haha! You too! And happy new year!
