Great and honest review Kellen. Chapeau. I liked the album but I still not loving it yet. I am still waiting Árstíðir Lífsins to grab me as other bands you mentioned in the beginning. I still need more time with them because every album is an investment and just by listening, it is not enough. I need a full immersion.
Nevertheless it is a good album, great kudos for them and the work they are doing and I would recommend it to everybody who likes this style of BM.

Excellent review, as always Kellen! I agree with pretty much all your points... including the one that this album is a lot of work to comprehend. At this time I'm just not willing to sink so much time & study into contemplating a single new release. Maybe I'll circle back to it if at some point I feel I can dedicate a couple of weeks to really focusing on it.

I totally get it. we get very used to just being able to sit down and know whether we will really enjoy a record within a handful of minutes, appreciate it even more when we spin it through a couple of times. this is not that band. like any great EPIC story - it a heavy journey and takes a toll. I don't know where the tipping point was for me, but I appreciate how much they invest in their records, and makes for a singular experience for me.

This was a great and detailed review. I’ve been listening to more black metal lately and I am definitely going to give this a listen. I am definitely intrigued!

Great review for a great album. As far as Iceland's relative slowness in becoming Christian, it's interesting to see how even centuries later when Snorri Sturluson, himself a Christian, wrote the Prose Edda that it's evident from his work how much respect he still had for the old pagan myths. This despite the fact that his own Christian beliefs inevitably influenced many of the stories that we are familiar with today.

Great review Kellen. This is fantastic and still one of my favorite black metal albums of the year, however, it's been slipping down the list for me. This is due to not loving all of the chanting/throat singing/spoken word vocals, the length, and the swath of other releases I've been listening to more.

Heeellllllll YES. I still need to pick this one up. Waiting for one of the US distros to grab it, as those Ván prices for shipping just stings a little too much. 😂
    Great review!!

Really enjoyed the review. A lot of emotion. To be perfectly honest I more than likely would not have giving this one a second look/first listen. That being said this review was that much compelling was forced to change trajectory and listen.
