That's a great help Joe. Most of my painting videos involve a voiceover of some sort. De-essing is always something I've had problems with, but that's cured it. Thanks 👌
Will give this a shhhhot tonight. All this engineering stuff has had a steeper learning curve than I was ready for when I started down this path. Anything that makes it easy is greatly appreciated.
@@joeessayvoice I dig that tool. It's super easy to use. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending), nothing I've recorded recently has had a great deal of sibilance. I'll put the tool through its paces when I record something that does. What I noticed instead was a kind of whistling R sound in some words. That may just be a Me thing.
Hey Joe, I’m am hoping to be able to edit some terrible audio tracks for an upcoming church drama. I need de-esser and plosive filters that are not in the native Audacity app.. I realize your video is about using Audacity with the MUSE add-ons. However! MUSE has apparently, completely overhauled and changed their webpage to try to entertain 3yr olds showing; biga, snappa-flasha, giant, full screen, busy graphics, that could send a healthy adult person into an epileptic seizure. A download link prominently displayed at the top-right of the page, with no clear indication as to what we’re downloading though. My index finger is blistered from scrolling down the massive flashing web pages only to find another giant mystery download link at the bottom of the webpage. Ok, then I finally mustered the nerve to click on the download link and run the file. I then get a message telling me to wait while MUSE gets its act together, about 60 sec. later voila a dialog page loads only to have NO free Audacity add-ons like the de-esser or anything else free, except to download of Audacity for free, WHAT! The latest ver. 3.6.4 is already installed. There were a number of offers to purchase unwanted apps. At $15.oo a pop, OR become a partner, hmm looking like it’s a membership purchase requirement. Maybe the free add-ons no longer exist? I am extremely disappointed and frustrated to have installed, uninstalled and installed numerous times wasting 3 hrs. Searching for what you demonstrated to be a supper easy function and install. And yes I cycled the audacity app several times to no avail. with no add-ons installed like you show in the video. I’m not interested in the items they seem to be pushing (I need de-esser and plosive filters). LOL get this, the MUSE webpage also has an option to download audacity, (there version with MUSE add-ons). OK I'll try that, I uninstalled audacity and reinstalled 3 times maybe more and nope never was anything from MUSE added to the audacity app. Maybe you need to revisit their website then share again with us how find and get these add-ons installed. OH by the way I've only watched a couple of your videos, good job nice production and the sound quality is great. MUSE has botched it for you and us. PS; I also have the NCH suite but prefer the more user friendly audacity. I’m just frustrated over the worthless MUSE website and add-ons mentioned. FYI (Windows 10, Quad 3.6ghz Intel processors, 32GB memory and High speed fiber optics internet). Thanks Joe
hello, thank you so much for this video, obviously have a talent how to give information in an easy and clear way....may be you can also recorder how to make broadcast effect in audacity?
Hi Joe!What would be super helpful is knowing 1) what I can do to reduce reverb in my Mexican concrete and tiled recording space (for my podcast). Is there a way to reduce the 'bathroom" sound? 🤣 pillows aren't helping! and 2) is there a good way to ensure that my levels from podcast to podcast are the same? I would like to save my listeners' ear drums if possible...
Oh man, concrete and tile in the same room is going to be a beast to tame! You're going to want soft surfaces all around. I would highly recommend trying things out in a closet full of clothes to begin with. It doesn't sound glamorous, but it's going to sound WAY better than that hard surfaced room!
The newe versions of Audacity have a live effect support. You don't have to apply the filter as before. Just click the Effects button on the left side of the track and add an effect (like the De-Esser) and you can dial it in while listening and change it anytime later. And you can even stack effects.
Ooooh that's a fun topic Jessee! Any more details on what you mean by that? Describe for me what you're trying to do and what your problem is, and I might make a video out of it!
I'm a little confused when you brought in the Muse site. It appears what you're suggesting is - rather than D/L Audacity from that company's website, instead, go to MUSE and not only D/L Audacity from them, but also the effects? In my case, I updated to the latest version of Audacity (3.4.2) three weeks ago from the Audacity website. So does that mean I can just go to MUSE and grab the Effects....OR is it a combination package that I can only get from MUSE?
You can download audacity from the audacity website no problem. I was trying to kill 2 birds with one stone and have folks download it straight from Muse so that it would just be easier to get the effects. If you already have Audacity, just go ahead and get Muse, which will allow you to go get those effects. Does that make sense?
Hi. Thank you. I admit being rubbish, but in case anyone else has the issue....After I downloaded the de esser I tried in vain to find it. I had enabled it . When YOU clicked on "effects" you got a long drop down list and it was there. MY drop down list was much shorter and it did not show the de-esser at all, despite restarting Audacity and computer. Then I noticed that on MY audacity drop down list there was a new box near the bottom called "Muse". I opened THAT box and the de esser was in there. Phew! Maybe you have made the Muse Box the default box to open when you hit "effects"? . Anyway; Great video, thanks very much. Now to try it out. ! If I thound like thith itth all gone wrong! :)
Great video -- you got me set up from zero to enabled. Here's a problem you could address: When I hit record on Audacity and record my voice, there is a hum in the background. I don't have that problem when recording in QuickTime. I couldn't find a "Hum reduction" effect. Why does this hum arise in the first place? Are there settings I should optimize before voice recording? If not, how do I get rid of the hum? I'm a newbie so please make the video as easy to follow as this one :-)
Use the noise reduction. Select a section that only has the hum, open the noise reduction filter and press the button at the top. Now select the whole track, open the filter again and now 'apply'.
My guess is that your Quicktime might be set up on a different microphone than your Audacity? I would check those settings first! Let me know if it's still happening!
Whenever I record a VO I first do noise removal, then Compression, Equalize, finally Normalize. Where in this chain would I use the DeEsser? I'm thinking after the noise removal. What do you think? Thanks,
So in my haste to try this cool new thing out, I exported the audio I was working on (which had two tracks). Then I closed audacity and then it showed the new De esser, yay! But when I grabbed my audio file to try it out the two audio files had merged into that one save and now I have an overlapping audio.... is there a way to fix this or do I have to re record the entire audio again? HELP!
@@joeessayvoice They were on the same track but then when I exported them they were overlapping each other on the audio and when I went back to the original audio they had merged together so no way to tell which was what, it just looked like one file.
This looks like a cool tool. I have an older Mac that runs OS X. The new version of Audacity doesn't work with this version. Can I still get the De-Esser for my version of Audacity (3.0.4)?
