- This is a Demo Reel of the Galaxy Rangers show from 1986. It shows some differences in it's desging compared to the final product.

Apparently Action Cartoons are very Expensive to make. So they offset tha Cost by selling a toy line. If toys don't sell they're gonna abandon the Project.
its because most shows in the 80's were made to sell toys, if the toys stopped selling where the company would make money then the show which are expensive to make would get the ax.

This is mind blowing. I’ve been a fan of GR since I first seen it back in 1985.
"Nobody messes with my dolphin" is clearly Goose's most iconic quote.
This kicks ass! I'm a fan of the cartoon but I've never seen this before.
So basically all the good / great cartoons from the 80's were outsourced to Japan... LOL! :D
They used Japanese animation technique, but it was made here.
This is much closer to Japanese style that most. I think many of the other shows were storyboarded by westerners. You can tell GR is something special, by all the unique angles and details to muscles and anatomy. Especially in Nico, oh boy.
The animation looks really good, you can tell this was not animated here in the U.S. lol

Goose's power was actually cool... His body could transform to adapt to his environment. Like Newton from X-Men. But Goose could use his power at will to give him an edge in battle.
And Doc had an implant that could create and control sentient computer programs he uses to hack systems and gain information.

Although I like the voice actor for Doc, and how he is drawn,...but his powers, were really nothing more than to open locked doors!

The animation is from studios in Japan. For example, by "TMS" Studios (since the 1960s), for foreign productions like this one.

There is a longer version on the american DVDs. It has a lot of scenes from the first episode but with a few different voices and details. For instance, it shows Captain Kidd with all of Zachs family in the end instead of just with his wife. It also has the Queen of the Crown with a different design as well. It's a nice pilot episode.

There were two other shows TMS did for the states. The first was Mighty Orbots in '84 and The Bionic Six in 87. The company also worked for Disney there '80 shows.

Brilliantly animated shows. The way they animated the preceptor in bionic six was sick
TMS also worked on Animaniacs and Filmation’s Zorro (the latter being the only time Filmation did any outsourcing for their shows)
Oh and no The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers isn't technically an Anime any more than Thundercats or Silverhawks is, its simply was animated in Asia - Both Japan and Korea. it was all American written and made specially for the US market it's NOT a Japanese show that was Translated into English. It is an American Produced show animated in Asian - just like The Simpsons is too for that matter.
You can tell that also because the voices match the mouths properly (most of the time).
Oh and if you see any iffy Animation it's usually a less good story and an episode made in Korea and if the Animation is better the story is better too and it's animated in Japan.
The Producers even admit they sent the strongest scripts to japan. It's certainly heavily influenced in style and tone and direction by the Asian Animation but the script themes and heck the Music is all VERY American. (in the best possible way)
Well may be the Music isn't Quite 100% America... but you get the idea.
I think the stylization is a healthy bend between both worlds. The designs look like a mix of the best of the east and western comic book hero/scifi, with the technical care and detail only Japan can produce. It's the best balance.
I mean, what has the west even done on its own? Calarts? Give me a break.

The series combines sci-fi stories with traditional wild west themes. It is one of the first anime-style shows produced mainly in the USA, although the actual animation was done by the Japanese animation studio Tokyo Movie Shinsha. It wasn't dubbed, its in the original language. :)

I wonder how no body is interested to make the version live action movie .... With all CGI technology it will make a good movie. And surely Goose will be the most favorite one.
What hits me is that Mandell was somewhat merciful in the final draft. He spared Zach Jr. and Jess.
Anyone know where I can watch all these episodes I can't believe I still remember this from when I was 5 32 years later and I feel like a kid again sitting in my living room with tea and biscuits watching my favourite cartoon on a Saturday morning 😂

this was a neat show but unfortunatly loses some of it's obscure 80's street cred because Like Starcom it was briefly aired on the PAX network
