  • In this video, I burp the radiator after replacing the radiator in my 95 Mustang GT 5.0. These instructions will work on 86 to 95 Mustangs with the 5.0. If you have an issue with a 5.0 overheating, I recommend using these instructions to burp your radiator.
I used the following kit, to burp my radiator.

What’s the size of the bleeder on thermostat housing. I can’t seem to find the right sized one, used hex and everything was bigger or too small.

I have a 95 3.8. My thermostat is staying in the middle and then the fan turns on. Driving it’s at about between N and O. Siting and running long enough it’ll get to halfway when it hits between R and M the fan turns on. Just asking. A friend had one but it never went above O.

The thermostat and if A/C is running will make a difference in the placement of the needle. When A/C is on, the fan is always running. So if you have a 160 degree thermostat and have the A/C on, you could have a lower needle placement than someone with a 195 Degree thermostat with the A/C off.

Some GT don't have them. You would remove the upper radiator house and fill it that way. This will get any bubbles out.

Hey man, my 95 gt doesn’t have that bolt near the upper radiator hose, I replaced the thermostat a few days ago and filled it back up with coolant, and there’s an air pocket in the system. could I just use the radiator spill proof funnel and have the car run to burp the system?

    • @chasingmustangs

You should be fine as long as the funnel is higher than the hoses going to the the heater core.

Someone probably replaced the original one with a cheap housing without the bleeder. If you don't want to replace it. You can just remove the hose from the housing and fill it directly with coolant.

Did you ever figure this out. I have a 1994 GT as well and need to do a coolant flush, but where the bolt is supposed to be, it's not there. Little indentation where the bolt should be, but no bolt. Solid metal over it. I've been the owner since it had 8k miles, and as far as I know the thermostat has never been replaced. Only ford dealership has done repairs. I want to flush the system, but don't want to have issues with air pockets.

I’m in the same predicament have no bolt on my housing and just replaced the thermostat and it keeps overheating a bit and fan is kicking on late is that a air bubble that would cause that and did notice letting it run with cap off the fluid raises up a bit over flowing on the ground

95 5.0 only 89k miles my radiator is foaming, and gets above the middle on gauge only bleed process I did was fill radiator with heat on didn't remove bleed screw... Blown head gasket or blocked coolant passage. You can try using radiator flush kit and see if it helps. You might get lucky and it clears itself, if that is the issue.
