Steely Dan - Aja is an AMAZING sounding record that continues to impress on vinyl. Also RUSH - Fly by Night or any of those early releases also sound killer on vinyl.
@@MelindaMurphy Aja has always made me think I have the most sophisticated stereo equipment just by the way it's engineered and mastered. It's a flawless album. The title track sounds like I'm listening to it live.
Steely Dan's 'Aja' record is part of the TAS List for its natural and dynamic sound quality. "TAS" stands for "The Absolute Sound" online magazine and I highly recommend Googling the TAS List of LP albums which is truly amazing and ranges from rock to folk to jazz to movie soundtracks and tons of great classical music albums too as well as certain 45 rpm records. I was lucky enough to buy the album for only $2 in perfect, scratch-free shape and minty cover from my local Salvation Army Thrift Store several years ago. :)
Wow Melinda! You & hubby have great tastes! A lot of those records are in my favorites list as well! And anyone who loves the Alan Parsons Project knows great music!❤️
Too funny...how could you reorganize your collection on dear hubby! I fear Rachel will do this 😂 I remember visiting friends and they would put on some jazz during dinner and it was so special! Thanks for another lovely video ❤
I would recommend an ABC/Dunhill (Black Label) copy of The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get. It's Joe Walsh at the peak of his powers with an album that doesn't get old. The CD version sounds good, but a vintage seventies pressing just races out of your speakers. I let out a little yip in the record store when I came across my copy. I let it sit for a few days before I played it, and when I opened the gatefold, there was some evidence of contraband. Not only did the album sound fresh and alive, but it had been anointed as well.
Haha! I haven't come across an album in that condition yet. 😃 I do have that album. I will have to give it a listen again. It's been a while since I've played it. I have always been a huge Joe Walsh fan. He adds humor to great music. He's one of my top 5 guitarists of all time and when I saw him with the Eagles, he stole the show. 🤩 Thank you and have a great week!
Fun show. Great selections to wow your friends! Loved The Allen Parsons Project and Tommy James and the Shondells making the cut. I still have the Roulette Records 45 of Crystal Blue Persuasion. The fun part about playing music for friends is that you are placed in the position of programmer. It’s always fun to try to read the room right.
I agree. I love seeing my friends faces light up when they hear a favorite song on my stereo equipment. ♥️ It's a lot of fun. Tommy James is great. Thank you and take care.
Love this video! And I love your arched door in the background. I've always loved that kind of door. Hope you and the hubs have a great 2023. Keep on rockin sweetie! P.S. Derek St. Holmes is the vocalist on Stranglehold.
Great video, love the "banter" between you as we say in the UK! I grew up with vinyl and though I'm purely streaming now (don't even have a CD player) you make me very tempted to go down the record rabbit hole.
I am in 100% agreement with you on the records you showed us, and indicated that sound better than streaming! I’ve discovered this myself with so many other vinyl records I’ve obtained for my collection. Vinyl brings out sounds and clarity that you’ll never here on a CD or streaming! Your channel here proves that you’ve indeed got a special niche in the UA-cam vinyl community that is so enjoyable to watch, educational, fun and informative. I for one thank you for all your efforts on all the videos you’ve presented on your channel, and do lo look forward to what you’ll bring us in the future! Excellent content and presentation by both you and your husband here! Last but not least, 10 points for your husband’s remark about Kiss and Bob Dylan at the end! It brought about a good laugh! Sorry! 🏆🏆🏆💯💯💯👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
First off, thank you so much for the kind comments. That is so encouraging.😃♥️ I'm glad my husband could give you a laugh at the end. You know I completely disagree. Haha! Thank you and take care.
Great to see Phillip again - his cameo appearances are much appreciated! Totally agree with you about the Money for Nothing intro - gets me up and playing air guitar every time 😊
I love watching you and Phillip together. Boston is and always will be my go to record. All the ones you showed are great. Hugs to lucy... Have a great week🙂❤
Hey Melinda, interesting video with Phillip. Good to see him again. I enjoy his exasperated comments about your MOFI filing system and the multiple copy thing. While I CAN own up to the multiple pressings as well 🙂, I get his confusion on your filing system but I understand why you do that. The only place I file by label is in my Classical section lol. I've been trying to convince my friends about vinyl audio quality vs streaming though it seems they're not as fussed about sound so much as convenience. The best argument is that unlike streaming, you actually own your music having a physical collection. One of these people used to love owning a quaIity sound system and a record collection (which he gave to me 🙂). I need to find that Diana Krall LP. Sounds like a nice chill out album to play. Would that be accurate? Love your work as always. Take care sweetheart ❤️😘
The Diana Krall album is a beautiful and relaxing album. You would really enjoy it. I may have gone a little overboard with my filing system but as a collector, I like to look through my MoFi collection and my Analog Productions collection. I find joy in keeping them together. Thank you and take care. ♥️😃
@@MelindaMurphy no not overboard. Having seen shots of them on your shelves in your videos, those spines together look beautiful. It's your collection so whatever works for you is the best way. Cheers 😘🙂
Love your channel, been watching for years, I bought vinyl from 75 to 86, then went to cds, never really looked back, still like collecting them, I don't have to worry about pops, crackles, skips or warped albums. I do miss the large album covers, but vinyl or cd still beats streaming, where you really own nothing. Like the videos with your husband, hope to see more in the future. Kind of surprised he pulled out a Ted Nugent album, wasn't expecting that.
This particular Ted Nugent album sounds spectacular. 🔥 It's probably the best in our collection. I like CD's as well and have a small collection of them. There is a time and place for all formats. Thank you for being a long time viewer of my channel. That really means a lot to me and I greatly appreciate it. Take care.
11:47 Hi Melinda, great suggestions and ideas for my collection. Question: do you have a video on how you categorize your collection? I have been think about this recently and you had mentioned a couple of your categories. Keep up the great work!
Melinda, your organizational system makes perfect sense to me! As we grow our collection, we also grow in maturity as to the need for better quality produced/pressed/mastered vinyl. How do we separate the analog from the better quality? Simple: create a new category. Most excellent, Melinda!
Great subject Melinda! A very good point you made about putting on music that your guests enjoy. It makes my heart sink when, on seeing my hi-fi & wanting a listen, when asked what sort of music they like they reply "Oh, anything...". I'll always try to pin down exactly what their taste is. For what it's worth, my favourite LP to play to really wow visitors is an old, thin vinyl copy of Yello's "Baby". Nothing comes close to the jaw-dropping dynamics of this record on my system. For classical, I'd go with "the Power of the Orchestra - A Night on bald Mountain & Pictures at an Exhibition" Royal Philharmonic, on Chesky Records. I was given an old copy of Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, a mono recording which I recently discovered was a first pressing, and sounds absolutely wonderful! Best wishes.
@@MelindaMurphy Hi Melinda. I discovered it in a pile of old classical records my uncle was going to throw away. I've a modern copy of Sgt. Pepper's in stereo, but this old mono version is astonishingly better. Didn't know it was a first pressing until I did some Googling.
Hi Melinda, sorry about that response to your video about the cost of records these days and that was a gracious response you made. I wish they were cheaper too. I have had fairly high end audio since I was a teen and although that was a long time ago I still listen to records, I have several hundred including many of the ones you and your husband are showing. I still use my Technics SL 1700 turntable which I rebuilt and also upgraded it with a very nice Ortofon cartridge. I system also includes NAD, Denon, Marantz, Pioneer Elite and PSB. After all these years there's still no better listening experience than playing my favorite albums on a nice system
First of all, I just want to say congratulations on finding your griail! You should also tell your nephew that not only does vinyl better collecting vinyl is also the fun in the chase to find your grills and the feeling that you get when you finally do I’m looking for a Robert Ludwig copy myself just don’t wanna pay the price everybody wants for a not so good copy but I’m sure if I wait long enough wanna come along again, congratulations and a great video
Thank you! I had been wanting that MoFi Boston album for years. I hope you find an RL Led Zeppelin 2 in an antique store like I did. That was very exciting. Thank you and take care.
nice seeing your husband here in youtube land . as for that nephew he's just missing out on vinyl downloads and all that stuff is not really ; good to listen to in my opinion. another great video beautiful melinda
Just ordered Aerosmith Toys in the attic as my childhood copy was worn out. I was thinking round and round would be good to hear on a quality pressing. The one I ordered is audiophile. Getting back to you on that clear vinyl Television Marqee Moon is really good! Sounds amazing and the production is incredible sounding. It was on Rhino start your ear off edition. Good to see you both today! God Bless You both and your family.
Awesome video Melinda. I have the Boston album. As I have said before I enjoy your husband honesty when he’s on. Is your daughter coming on sometime or did I miss it. Thanks. Marty
Hi Melinda and Phillip, It is so great to see both of you in a video again. Let me just say this: Everyone has a right to listen to music on whatever format they choose to listen too and I am not here to judge anyone, but saying that, let me say this: I will never understand people that listen to music by streaming, or those people that listen to music on your phone or your computer with the tiny speakers, Even a Cassette tape would sound 10 times better then streaming, or listening to music on your cell phone or computer. To be fair, these people that do this must not know how much better music can sound on a Home Stereo System. It is not there fault they don't know. But, In my opinion, by streaming music or listening to music on a computer or a cell phone, the person listening to the music is missing out on the full spectrum of sound, that streaming or a cell phone or computer speakers will never be able to achieve. Stay well and take care!!!! Enjoyed your video!!!
@@MelindaMurphy Your Welcome Melinda. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself and your love for Vinyl and music in general. I don't know what I would do without music. Take care
Hey! You’re like me! 😂 I too have mofi’s together and analogue productions together as well as my Friday music, CBS mastersound, Nautilus superdiscs and Japanese pressings. So good to see Phillip and his sense of humor! Most of all I enjoy seeing you cringe and making your case! Lol😂😂😂
Hello 👱♀Melinda & 👱♂Phillip; Starting off with the " NUGE'' & continuing with The Eagles On The Border, The Alan Parsons Project, Boston, The Royal Ballet, definitely a 🤴Phillip album, Led Zeppelin II & Dire Straits. You made very good album choices for home listening pleasure & to play for friends. Agree with the all LP's shown as they're your favorites. Good video for discussing/debating LP's. Take care 💁♀Tina & 💁♂Pat!~
Funny you made this video. After Christmas I upped my streaming game, and got a “Node” streamer. I have a Tidal account, and wanted to play their MQA tracks. I have to say, the MQA tracks are tough to beat. I had a New Years Eve party and played vinyl, and streamed. None of my friends purchase music, they just stream, but are always amazed at the sound quality of the records, and cannot seem to grasp, why they sound so good. Anyway, I will always have records at my house. The Node just gives me a convenient alternative, for great sounding music.
Derrick St.Holmes is amazing. Stranglehold is insatiably great. The first Boston is perfection. Need to look into to the Wall remaster. The first pressing does sound so good! Great seeing your husband on you videos. Great job, Melinda! Take care.
Melinda.. I like how you organized your collection ! If I had a lot of Mofi's, I would do the same.. my jazz and classical is definitely separate from everything else.
Hey guys…that was fun. What an amazing collection! The TJ&S era put out some beefy vinyl. DS “Industrial Disease”big entertaining soundstage, lots of cool sound effects. I’ll always ❤ vinyl best…But…digital has come a long way. So many amazing live videos, too. BS Saturday Night Special, so cool. Just got a pair of Klipsch 5’s, powered, BT streaming from the iPad …blowing my mind. They are way beyond expectation…really 🤯. Don’t worry…they have a phono in…the old DP-300 has a new home upstairs. Crazy 🐕is a challenge in the record room downstairs…Was time for Plan B. Sometimes you just need some listening time.🍻
I agree that those older records were done right. Tommy James & the Shondells sound terrific on vinyl. Digital has come a long way and can sound terrific. The Dire Straits album that I showed was recorded digitally. Enjoy your new Klipsch 5's. Take care.
Hello Melinda, so I've watching you videos. I know you talk about Mobile Fidelity alot. So just to let you know I can't afford their one steps but after watching this the day you put it out I've decided to order some of MOFI's pressings. I bought Foreigner's first album and also 4, so I'm interested in trying a comparison between a earlier pressing of 4 a Music on vinyl yl pressing and my sacd. I also bought a MIFI pressing of the Cars Heartbeat city which I plan on doing the same thing with. Then I have an earlier pressing of Ted Nugent so I order the Analog Productions of to compare it too.
“Crimson and Clover” BTW On the Border is just a superb choice, then again anything Eagles especially my favorite being Hotel California. Nice clip with your “Guest”👍
Jennifer Warnes - " Famous Blue Raincoat " the songs of Leonard Cohen. The Cowboy Junkies - " The Trinity Sessions ". Great to see Philip, he brings a voice of reason 🎶😋 Btw, I was kidding last time about selling the Rush albums, I would never be able to look my man, Alex Lifeson, in the face again. Thanks for the broadcast!
Haha! I'm glad to hear that you aren't selling your Rush albums. They are gold. By saying Phillip is the voice of reason, what exactly are you saying about me??? 😃 Thank you and have a great weekend.
Fantastic video! My go-to for anyone is almost always Rosanna from my US first press of Toto IV. I tell people I choose it because A) pretty much everyone knows the song, and B) you've never really heard it until you've heard it on vinyl. :-) Although once when someone suggested that vinyl couldn't reproduce bass frequencies well, I put on Morph the Cat by Donald Fagen, then smiled at his agape face and asked, "Any questions?" lol
Haha! Love it! I absolutely love Rosanna. That's one of my favorite songs from the 80's. I agree that it sounds dynamite on vinyl.🔥 Thank you and take care.
I remember having an "original" pressing of Pink Floyd's "The Wall", and no matter what kind of stereo set up you had, the album did sound fantastic. Later on I picked up a reissue for nowhere near the (too-high) price it normally goes for and gave the original to a friend. DON'T know if I should've, but at the time thought "hell, I'm not going to need it anymore". The reissue is just as awesome.
I wouldn't swap my bought-on-day-of-release UK pressing which is still in immaculate condition for all the tea in China. I wouln't even welcome a reissue were someone to give me one.
I bought the Royal Ballet, Analogue Productions and it has a click on 1 song. 33 RPM. Congrats on the Boston, that one would be wonderful to have. My stereo is very nice but not enough that I really hear the difference of many of these records. Great jobs reorganizing the collection for Phillip. It is I,portent to keep the spouse guessing. My wife still has yet to even touch a record
Streaming is great - it has allowed my phone to totally replace all the various portable formats I have had through the years, from my first Wlakman - to my CD Walkman - to my MiniDisc Walkman - to my ipod. It is a great format for on the go - or for me making a party mix for our Senior center dances to play over the Senior Center Sound system. But give me my old stereo, and let me take my old records and give them a spin, for my greatest listening pleasure.
Derek St. Holmes sang lead on stranglehold. He went on to form Holmes/Whitford when Brad Whitford of Aerosmith temporarily left to band. I wish MoFi or AP would come out with audiophile versions of Aerosmith’s catalog. I did speak with Jon at Music Direct last week (really great guy) and he said that the Van Halen MoFi may be available this fall. Last but not least, your promotional number of “69” when right over Philip’s head! The looks on both of your faces were priceless! 😂
Haha! I thought for sure he would have something to say about that. It is a family show though. Lol. I would love to see Aerosmith get the audiophile treatment. 🔥 The idea of having to wait for Van Halen until fall depresses me a little. 😮 Thank you and take care.
M, If I recall you said you were going to hold off on the on the border mo fi and keep your og.? Nice of them to send it though. Which sounds better. I have an og on Dunhill of A Band called Smith. To me it’s one of my best sounding on my system. A clean copy should still be under 20$
I have that Band Called Smith record too. 😮🔥 I am grateful that they sent On the Border to me. The One Step does sound better than my copy of the original. Thank you and take care.
My reason for Playing records are 1) my songs are not necessarily available streamed 2) I can fine adjust the tone quality better on my stereo than streamed 3) once I buy record, I own it, no monthly or yearly fees. 4) no commercials, some services play commercials. 5) gives us a moment to get involved playing music, more than logging in and scanning for your songs or albums. I have the original Tommy James and the Shondells, on Roulette records. Great album.
@@barkatthemoonlunatic1715 you do have some control with a digital source, i have an analog stereo which allows you to expand the bass and treble control. New stuff today unless you get high end equipment doesn't allow or may have a limited amount of control over the way a recording can sound.
Why have vinyl when you can stream it? Ha! Love it. Your system makes perfect sense, btw. 😂 Mines very similar. It’s always fun to see Phillip in your vids, Melinda. Great vid. Thanks! 👍🎶😊
Great video Melinda! I agree with all of your choices and add Steely Dan Can’t Buy a Thrill UHQR and the OG AB pressing of Aja - both are amazing! BTW - I STILL agree with Philip on his dislike of Dylan 😉
Noticed that you showed Brother in Arms, kind of ironic because I remember when that came out, it was one of the first all digital albums, it really helped start the cd explosion because it sounded so great on that format, I think I heard later it was the first album to sell a million cds. Not surprising. Everybody wanted their MTV, lol.
Lol! It is a digital album but it sounds fantastic on vinyl. It just proves that if digital is done right, it can be incredible. Thank you and take care.
Phillip's next in his progression was obviously going to be Sade, Stronger than Pride after Nora Jones and Diana Krall....and I would pick I Robot over Eye in the Sky but have all of the APP records...as for guitar, I'm listening to Larry Carlton, Mr. 335 Live in Japan as I type this. So good. I'm not a Zeppelin fan but I had that one buy my son "borrowed" it from me to take back to school after he had given it to me for XMass one year. Glad to have passed the vinyl bug down to my kids as well. Glad the channel found me...
The early Sade pressings do sound really good. I'm sure he would enjoy them. 😃 Thank you for the suggestion. Our daughter loves vinyl too. ♥️ It's great that our kids are getting into vinyl. Thank you and take care.
I have a copy of that Tommy James and the Shondells lp and have to agree the song selection and sound is fantastic, very underrated band. Thanks for the video guys, you are the George Burns and Gracie Allen of vinyl videos. Take that as a compliment. 😊
Great video! I like re-arranging my records in different ways too. I have my jazz separate as well as soundtracks, various artists compilations, comedy, spoken as well as artists I have more than 50 records of. Everything else is A-Z. By the way Phillip, KISS rocks!! Take care!
Shelby Lynne Just A Little Lovin, 2008 version, can’t remember if it is Audiophile or not but just haunting vocal clarity. One of the albums used when auditioning hardware upgrades
I bought a cd version of that recently on recommendation from the Audiophilic. Love the album but the original recordings of Dusty Springfield on those songs would be wonderful too.
You must have a DAC with MQA if you want the Hi-res quality from Tidal. although the app for mobile phones or for DAP Players decodes MQA. when it says hi-fi, it's not hi-res. HIFI With Tidal, 16-bit quality is standard
Boz Scaggs - silk degrees ( simply vinyl), Natalie Merchant - Tigerlily (MoFi), Michael Jackson - thriller, Chicago 7, joe jackson - night and day, sting - dream of the blue turtles, doobie Brothers - livin on the faultline, al Dimeola - elegant gypsy, sade - diamond life
The one album that springs to mind on this topic is my OG Australian pressing of XTC's English settlement. Always my go to for people that aren't familiar with vinyl.
My go-to is the MoFi pressing of Journey's Escape (yes, I have a copy). Absolutely, positively incredible. I know we've all been bored to tears with Don't Stop Believin', but the song "Escape" will take your head off. The sonics are insane. I'm really hoping they'll reissue it at some point.
@@drocker4729 To be honest at first I wasn't really impressed. It sounded a little better than my CBS Mastersound. Then the first solo started. My jaw hit the floor as Neal's melodic solo soared around the room. Back then I had four speakers set up in my room. They weren't quad just A+B, but the sound literally encircled you. I could've died and gone to Heaven right then!
Boston's legendary debut is arguably the greatest first record by a group in music history. Still sounds fucking awesome with a soaring , melodic, poweruf guitar sound never duplicated. Hell, they named a city after them!
I'd say that the first Crosby, Stills and Nash is the greatest first album by any band but maybe that doesn't count as they were already established artists on their own. Same goes for Dio's first solo record, Holy Diver. Dreamboat Annie is my 3rd pick and Boston would be 4.
Killer pick Phillip ! That Ted Nugent S/T album is a rock solid electric blast of kick ass american Rock n Roll ! The back photo on the album tells it all of an excellent tight powerful band ! Derek St Holmes vocals/ rhythm guitar Ted Nugent lead guitar / vocals Rob Grange bass guitar the late Cliff Davies on drums
Derek St. Holmes I believe is the name of Ted Nugent singer on the LP. I can't really remember his name either right now. But that is a fantastic album and thank you Melinda for mentioning it because that led to me getting the 45 RPM last year. Phenomenal sound! I still haven't bought any MoFi recordings but I eventually will. I just got the regular remastered LP of Eagles - On The Border 2 days ago and I have a first pressing of Eye in the Sky that does sound good. I'd love to hear the Mobile Fidelity versions. And I really want to get that Boston MoFi LP. That's on my list of definite wants! I would die to find an RL Led Zeppelin II. And I do have a first pressing of the Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits that was in that collection I got from my friend last year. That album sounded so good from the get-go but back in high school I never listened to it. I don't know why? I've been wanting to try out Norah Jones but still haven't got any of her LPs yet. I may have to do that soon? You guys have some great albums you show on these videos 👍 Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
I picked up almost 200 used albums (mostly hard/soft rock) and now I’m going through and playing every album that I have to see if it stays/goes, some that haven’t been played in decades. With a much better system than I had in the past, I’ve found new favorites that have surprised me with their song and recording quality (Boston, Orleans, Little River Band, Gerry Rafferty) and old favorites that I played to death in my youth but now won’t ever play again (Grand Funk RR, Ted Nugent [sorry], Journey). I do have that Tommy James album somewhere!
I love that you named old bands like Orleans, LRB & Rafferty. I love those bands/artist. The Little River band sure was incredible.♥️ I still love their music. Thank you and take care.
I'm on the the same train with filing my audiophile lps from the regular editions. Jazz is separated by labels, MOFIs and APs have their own sections and everything else is alphabetized. Keep on keeping on I dig the vids!
Melinda is in love with vinyl and a husband who's supportive of her hobby. Don't kid yourself. Phillip may come off as very cool and camera shy, but he loves hearing some of Melinda's excellent high end vinyl. 🎸🎸🎸
Howdy Phillip! Laid back guy and funny. I bet it would be cool to hang out with yall with a couple of drinks and enjoy the sounds of vinyl! Also let Phillip know he might like Abita Purple Haze beer if hes never tried it. God Bless yall!
The first one I thought of was AP Elvis- 24 Karat Hits. Sounds amazing and it has both mono and stereo on it so you get two different soundscapes on the same pressing. Finally got MOFI Miles Davis - In A Silent Way and it blows away any version of it. Tool - Fear Inoculum has the best bass and drum sound I have ever heard.
That Elvis is mind-blowing. It's so amazing I bought one just to keep sealed. Looks like that might have been an ok investment since they're going for north of $200 now!
Do y’all own any DMM vinyl? They have a clean sound with minimal surface noise. I only have a few, but they sound really good. All I have is a box set of Mozart chamber music by the Smithsonian String Quartet and I have to put headphones on and really turn it up to hear any surface noise at all. And it’s an all digital recording. I also have a German DMM pressing from 1985 of the white album in white vinyl that has a lot of depth to it.
I hit the wrong button. My sister had been promised to marry this guy back when that album came out and that was their song. Then he died in a motorcycle accident. Sorry to be a downer. I'm almost sold on On the Border. Enjoyable listen. Thank you.
Nice to see Phillip again! I’ve missed seeing him. (That reminds me, I was able to talk my wife into appearing in a contest video a few weeks back😁) . I will say though that I really like Derek St Holmes vocals on Stranglehold. He’s a better singer than Ted. The Wall is an amazing sounding record. Great choice. If I had a Ludwig version of Zeppelin II, you’re darn right I’d be showing that one off too. Probably if I wanted to pick a few to play for sound I’d go with Whitesnake “Slide It In “ 45rpm mix, Springsteen “Darkness on the Edge of Town “ and the RSD mono release of Kinks Waterloo Sunset. Wonderful video Melinda! Have a great week 😊
Great video Melissa, that Boston Mofi is one of my grails. I think those mid-90s anadisc records are some of the best stuff Mofi ever did. So how much better is it than the Double Wally OG? Another great demo LP is “Hope” by Hugh Masekela. The dynamics of coal train almost bring me to tears
In my opinion, the Boston MoFi is considerably better than the Wally first pressing and somewhat better than the Friday Music version. I didn't and wouldn't pay what the going rate is on Discogs. It's not a big enough difference to warrant that price unless you are in it for collectability. I have been wanting it for a long time so I'm thrilled to now own it. Thank you and take care.
Absolutely. Just as much as CD's sound better in the car than streaming or flash drives. That's why they need to BRING CD PLAYERS BACK INTO AUTOMOBILES!!! Thank you for allowing this Public Service Announcement.
My go-to when trying to impress is the Analogue Productions - Dave Brubeck "Time Out". After that, Speakers Corner - Charles Mingus "Live at Antibes" or MOFI One-Step - Bob Dylan "Blood on the Tracks". Also Analogue Productions - Fleetwood Mac "Rumors"..... and others ;) MOFI - Bill Withers "Greatest Hits" just arrived in the mail and blew my socks off.
Yes it is. I was sadly disappointed when I heard it in digital format. It was so sad that due to that format the music notes didn't fade out they just dropped off.
I bought Michael Jackson Thriller last month from Walmart and it really had me energized and bouncing around the room! I forgot how great that record sounds. It really is a work of art and I'd put it up there with the Dire Straits recordings.
Hi Melinda, I agree with the selections by both of you. I do agree with Phillip in relation to the order that you store your records. I find that concept much too hard. However, it is your collection so if that's how you like it, that is your choice.
I personally really enjoy records that were recorded at Sound City Studios in California and done on the Neve 8078 console that was eventually purchased by David Grohl from the Foo Fighters. They used to record the entire band at the same time instead of laying down individual tracks and the sound out of that monster analog console is the things of legends. Some of the bands include but are not limited to... Dio, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, Pixies, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana, REO Speedwagon, Weezer, Ratt, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Cheap Trick, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Nine Inch Nails, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Metallica, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Fear, Foo Fighters and Rage Against the Machine
Was great years ago to walk round town with your vinyl just bought in your bag all the information who played on it and great pictures inside and wow there was great sounding albums about better than a lot of cds happy times ⏲️
You've probably been asked this question a lot, and pardon me if I'm repeating. What is that beautiful painting you've got on that frame? It looks amazing!
It's a painting called The Secret Heart by Dario Campanile. He is famous for painting the 75th anniversary version of the Paramount Mountain. Thank you and take care.
The one recording that gives me goosebumps every time I hear it is on the debut album from Ricki Lee Jones (self titled). And that song is The Last Chance Texaco. The goosebumps come near the end of the song. Check it out and totally relax your muscles when you listen to it and see what happens!!
i only bought recently a component that streams, before i had a laptop only for music with a very good internal DAC, it´s a bluesound node II, this told by a friend that was very good and it seems good, i only use spotify and tidal
No offense implied, but how do you showcase records/ strereo system with company and have conversation? I ll play 1 or 2 great recordings with volume up to really present it, but then lower volume to background level so we can have conversation. Would be ackward for me to have friends present and play multiple songs at a critiqueing volume. Thanks!
They were genuinely curious about the sound quality so we played several songs & turned them up pretty loud. After that, we played music at a lower level so we could have a good conversation. Thank you and have a good weekend!
This was fun Melinda! I love your taste (except for the Hair Bands - the Nugent is a "no" for me - LOL!) Boston (who I saw live in 1979) is considered "Yacht rock" now. And of course your collection is organized that way. Its perfect. We get it, but now I realize others don't! LOL!
Thank you, Melinda and Phillip for your video. I really enjoyed it. * Love the records you showed. Take Care.

AJA... Totally overrated, Black cow and Peg are great songs...next
Wow Melinda! You & hubby have great tastes! A lot of those records are in my favorites list as well!
And anyone who loves the Alan Parsons Project knows great music!❤️
Thank you! The Alan Parsons Project put out some great sounding records. ♥️ Take care.
Too funny...how could you reorganize your collection on dear hubby! I fear Rachel will do this 😂
I remember visiting friends and they would put on some jazz during dinner and it was so special!
Thanks for another lovely video ❤
My poor husband. 😃 He sure puts up with a lot. We love putting a jazz record on during dinner. It is special. Thank you so much Sue!
Love the story
Bill S produced pure genuis. Later he Produced Hotel California. Best album production I’ve ever heard. Period
Love when your husband is on great video my friend
Thanks so much
Love this video! And I love your arched door in the background. I've always loved that kind of door. Hope you and the hubs have a great 2023. Keep on rockin sweetie! P.S. Derek St. Holmes is the vocalist on Stranglehold.
Thank you! You too!
Great video, love the "banter" between you as we say in the UK! I grew up with vinyl and though I'm purely streaming now (don't even have a CD player) you make me very tempted to go down the record rabbit hole.
The rabbit hole is a lot of fun. Thank you for the kind words. Have a great weekend. 😃
@MF Nickster Or just buy the cd for a fraction of the cost. Absolutely no clicks and pops.
Great to see Phillip again - his cameo appearances are much appreciated! Totally agree with you about the Money for Nothing intro - gets me up and playing air guitar every time 😊
Absolutely! That intro rocks! Thank you and take care.
I always enjoy watching you and Phillip playing off each other. Phillip is quietly emerging from under the rock and becoming a vinyl enthusiast!
He enjoys records. 😃 I doubt he will ever be as passionate as I am but I'm very glad that he is so tolerant. Thank you and have a great weekend.
Please continue making videos together, you bring so much joy x
Thank you! Hopefully, he will agree to come on the channel again soon. Take care.
I love watching you and Phillip together.
Boston is and always will be my go to record. All the ones you showed are great.
Hugs to lucy...
Have a great week🙂❤
I just gave Lucy that hug. Boston's debut is the best. Thank you and have a great weekend.
I haven't made a video about categories. Perhaps that would be a good video topic at some point. Thank you and take care.
Melinda, your organizational system makes perfect sense to me! As we grow our collection, we also grow in maturity as to the need for better quality produced/pressed/mastered vinyl. How do we separate the analog from the better quality? Simple: create a new category. Most excellent, Melinda!
Thank you for understanding! ♥️😃 I'm glad someone else gets it. Take care.
Easy answer. Buy UK 1st pressings and throw away your US pressed rubbish.
Thank you for the suggestions. Now I'm curious! 😃 The mono Sgt Pepper first pressing would be incredible.🔥😮 Take care.
No problem at all. It's wonderful that you still have all of your records and equipment. 🔥♥️ I agree, vinyl is the best. Take care.
Fantastic picks! Your husband has great taste as well. He picked out Ted and many other amazing albums!
Yes! Thank you!
I would’ve LOVED to see a behind the scenes of Phillip trying to find what he was looking for in your new organized system. 😂😂😂
I'm not sure you really would have wanted to see that. Lol. 😃
You two are the "trip"! I love to watch and listen to this! I need to get that Tommy James album. Thanks for the info.
Thank you so much! 😃♥️
nice seeing your husband here in youtube land . as for that nephew he's just missing out on vinyl downloads and all that stuff is not really ; good to listen to in my opinion. another great video beautiful melinda
Thank you so much! 😃
Enjoy that Aerosmith record. 😃 Thank you and bless you!
Awesome video Melinda. I have the Boston album. As I have said before I enjoy your husband honesty when he’s on. Is your daughter coming on sometime or did I miss it. Thanks. Marty
I would love for my daughter to join me. I'm still working on it. 😃 Thank you and take care.
Well said! And you were so respectful.♥️ Thank you so much!
@@MelindaMurphy Your Welcome Melinda. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself and your love for Vinyl and music in general. I don't know what I would do without music. Take care

Thank you so much! Have a wonderful night! ♥️😃
I agree that there is a time and place for all musical formats. When possible, I'm always going to prefer listening to vinyl. Thank you and take care.
I play the 2021 remix of the single dont let me down from the let it be super deluxe boxset. That just roars out of the speakers
I'll have to give that a listen again. I bet it does sound terrific. Thank you and take care.
Ringo’s cymbals !
Loved this video, Melinda. It made me smile and laugh.
Thank you so much! 😃
Derrick St.Holmes is amazing. Stranglehold is insatiably great. The first Boston is perfection. Need to look into to the Wall remaster. The first pressing does sound so good! Great seeing your husband on you videos. Great job, Melinda! Take care.
Hi Ralph! I've never looked into the reissues of The Wall because the original sounds so great. I know it's your all time favorite album! 🔥 Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy yes. My Favorite! :)
Melinda.. I like how you organized your collection ! If I had a lot of Mofi's, I would do the same.. my jazz and classical is definitely separate from everything else.

@Melinda Murphy You too Melinda, thanks for getting back to me ! You are one of the best of the best ! ✌️
Take care.
Another fun video, I agree with Phillip on Ted and Alan Parsons, and of course you can never go wrong with Boston's debut. Have a great week, Peace!
Thank you Mike! 😃
Always great to come across the Phillip sit-ins!

That's awesome! Please let me know your thoughts once you receive them. Thank you and take care.
“Crimson and Clover” BTW On the Border is just a superb choice, then again anything Eagles especially my favorite being Hotel California. Nice clip with your “Guest”👍
Thank you! On the Border is great. This One Step sounds terrific. I am looking forward to Hotel California. Thank you and take care.
Jennifer Warnes - " Famous Blue Raincoat " the songs of Leonard Cohen. The Cowboy Junkies - " The Trinity Sessions ".
Great to see Philip, he brings a voice of reason 🎶😋
Btw, I was kidding last time about selling the Rush albums, I would never be able to look my man, Alex Lifeson, in the face again.
Bad sounding record
I remember having an "original" pressing of Pink Floyd's "The Wall", and no matter what kind of stereo set up you had, the album did sound fantastic. Later on I picked up a reissue for nowhere near the (too-high) price it normally goes for and gave the original to a friend. DON'T know if I should've, but at the time thought "hell, I'm not going to need it anymore". The reissue is just as awesome.
I'm glad to hear the reissues are so good.😃 Thank you and take care.
I wouldn't swap my bought-on-day-of-release UK pressing which is still in immaculate condition for all the tea in China. I wouln't even welcome a reissue were someone to give me one.
Is Toni Tenile of Capt and Tenile mentioned in credit notes on the Wall original
Haha! It's funny that your wife isn't interested in records at all. 😃 I'm so glad to finally have the Boston record. Thank you Steve! Take care.
I agree that there is a time and place for streaming. But at home my choice for music will always be vinyl. Thank you and take care.
The idea of having to wait for Van Halen until fall depresses me a little.
My reason for Playing records are
1) my songs are not necessarily available streamed
2) I can fine adjust the tone quality better on my stereo than streamed
3) once I buy record, I own it, no monthly or yearly fees.
4) no commercials, some services play commercials.
5) gives us a moment to get involved playing music, more than logging in and scanning for your songs or albums.
I have the original Tommy James and the Shondells, on Roulette records. Great album.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Excellent points. 😃♥️ Thank you and take care.

@@barkatthemoonlunatic1715 my stereo has a more adjustable bass and treble control than a streamed service on a digital device.
@@timothyweers8054 Isn't the digital device going through your stereo that contains the tone controls?
@@barkatthemoonlunatic1715 you do have some control with a digital source, i have an analog stereo which allows you to expand the bass and treble control. New stuff today unless you get high end equipment doesn't allow or may have a limited amount of control over the way a recording can sound.
Why have vinyl when you can stream it? Ha! Love it. Your system makes perfect sense, btw. 😂 Mines very similar. It’s always fun to see Phillip in your vids, Melinda. Great vid. Thanks! 👍🎶😊

Way to set these youngin’s straight on vinyl 😁. Also enjoy when Phillip joins you on your videos. Great list! #papamurphy
Thank you Chance! 😃
The 1st one I grab is Honeydrippers " I get a thrill" . the string bass, dual layered vocals, and jazzy ride cymbal make it sound analog heaven
I'll have to hunt that one down. Thank you and take care.
The album is called "Volume 1" by The Honeydrippers. Robert Plant on vocals, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on guitars. A lot of bluesy/jazzy music.
Awww! I love that comparison. ♥️ Thank you so much!
Great video! I like re-arranging my records in different ways too. I have my jazz separate as well as soundtracks, various artists compilations, comedy, spoken as well as artists I have more than 50 records of. Everything else is A-Z. By the way Phillip, KISS rocks!! Take care!
Kiss does rock! I'm glad I'm not alone with my unusual alphabetizing methods. 😃 Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much! I'm thrilled to finally have it. ♥️🔥
Shelby Lynne Just A Little Lovin, 2008 version, can’t remember if it is Audiophile or not but just haunting vocal clarity. One of the albums used when auditioning hardware upgrades
I have heard of that album. Thank you for the suggestion. Take care. ♥️😃
Boz Scaggs - silk degrees ( simply vinyl), Natalie Merchant - Tigerlily (MoFi), Michael Jackson - thriller, Chicago 7, joe jackson - night and day, sting - dream of the blue turtles, doobie Brothers - livin on the faultline, al Dimeola - elegant gypsy, sade - diamond life
Wonderful titles. Thank you for your input. I have a few of them and they are fantastic. Take care.
The one album that springs to mind on this topic is my OG Australian pressing of XTC's English settlement. Always my go to for people that aren't familiar with vinyl.
That's wonderful! Thank you for the suggestion. Have a great week!

@@MelindaMurphy welll nooo and your welcome :)

All the early Dire Straits sound fabulous on vinyl. Scott Walker anyone? Good stuff guys.
I agree! The Dire Straits records were well recorded. Thank you and have a great weekend.
Brothers in arms is a whole album play album. So amazing!!
I agree! ♥️
SO Funny...I Crack Up Everytime When U Don't Notice That U Cover Phil's Face Sometimes When U Hold Up A Record...😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
😳 oops!
@@MelindaMurphy 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
I'm on the the same train with filing my audiophile lps from the regular editions. Jazz is separated by labels, MOFIs and APs have their own sections and everything else is alphabetized. Keep on keeping on I dig the vids!
Thank you! I'm glad I'm not alone on this. 😃 Take care.
Phillip is the coolest 😎 Dude , he says it as it is. He don't enjoy the camera but does it for his lovely wife. GREAT 💑.
The question here maybe if he is too kind
Melinda is in love with vinyl and a husband who's supportive of her hobby. Don't kid yourself. Phillip may come off as very cool and camera shy, but he loves hearing some of Melinda's excellent high end vinyl. 🎸🎸🎸
He's the best! 😃♥️
I'm sorry I did not mean to disrespect him at all , And if it came out that way my appologies.
@@jerryandlisa27 No, I didn't see your comment as disrespectful. It's a good observation. Hope to see you comment some more. 👍👍👍
Howdy Phillip! Laid back guy and funny. I bet it would be cool to hang out with yall with a couple of drinks and enjoy the sounds of vinyl! Also let Phillip know he might like Abita Purple Haze beer if hes never tried it. God Bless yall!
Thank you very much! We do love good conversation and music. I will pass your suggestion on to Phillip. Take care.
Great job guys. I like when you do videos together
Thank you so much! 😃
You guys are awesome God bless you guys
Thank you! God bless you too. 😃♥️
I agree completely! I almost showed this Elvis record. Thank you and take care.
I do have a few Rush albums and they do sound great. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
Indeed Yes...BOSTONs 1976 Debut...In My Opinion~Foreplay/Longtime Was The Bands Absolutely Splendid Attempt At Progressive Rock...
Enjoyed the video. The Eagles brought me back.
I hit the wrong button. My sister had been promised to marry this guy back when that album came out and that was their song. Then he died in a motorcycle accident. Sorry to be a downer. I'm almost sold on On the Border. Enjoyable listen. Thank you.
That's such a tragic story. 🥲 The One Step of On the Border is really good. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Great selections! I love Darkness on the Edge of Town. I will have to look for that video with your wife. 😃♥️ Thank you and take care.
Actually, what you should really want is the RL stamper version of LZ II.
@@MelindaMurphy thanks for the summary! The Friday music one wasn’t on my radar. I’ll see if I can find one for less than the price of a kidney!😜
Absolutely. Just as much as CD's sound better in the car than streaming or flash drives. That's why they need to BRING CD PLAYERS BACK INTO AUTOMOBILES!!!
Thank you for allowing this Public Service Announcement.
I agree with you. CD players are sorely missed. Thank you and take care.
You named some great ones. I have to agree with all of them. Excellent choices. 🔥♥️ Thank you!
The Moody Blues Days of future passed album beats any format when on vinyl
Beautiful sounding record .
Yes it is. I was sadly disappointed when I heard it in digital format. It was so sad that due to that format the music notes didn't fade out they just dropped off.
Yes! That's a great sounding record. That is a fantastic mention. Thank you!
I bought Michael Jackson Thriller last month from Walmart and it really had me energized and bouncing around the room! I forgot how great that record sounds. It really is a work of art and I'd put it up there with the Dire Straits recordings.
The Michael Jackson album sounds incredible. ♥️🔥 Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, I agree with the selections by both of you. I do agree with Phillip in relation to the order that you store your records. I find that concept much too hard. However, it is your collection so if that's how you like it, that is your choice.
I do understand his frustration. I can find everything with ease but it's probably hard for anybody else. Thank you and take care.
Roxy Music Avalon, Supertramp Crime of the Century, Black Sabbath Paranoid....enjoy your channel, thanks for sharing.
Thank you! You named some incredible records that do sound great. Take care.
Wow! That's an all-star line up of bands.♥️🔥
Was great years ago to walk round town with your vinyl just bought in your bag all the information who played on it and great pictures inside and wow there was great sounding albums about better than a lot of cds happy times ⏲️
I do love vinyl for all of those reasons.♥️😃 Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
@@MelindaMurphy And you 👍
You've probably been asked this question a lot, and pardon me if I'm repeating.
I definitely will. Thank you and take care.
i only bought recently a component that streams, before i had a laptop only for music with a very good internal DAC, it´s a bluesound node II, this told by a friend that was very good and it seems good, i only use spotify and tidal
Very nice! 🤗♥️
Wow - I always thought Tiffany's version of 'I think we're alone now' was the original - you live you learn! :D
Haha! I guess so.😃
No offense implied, but how do you showcase records/ strereo system with company and have conversation?
LOL!
Haha? Thank you for understanding my collection. Lol. I refuse to consider Boston Yacht Rock. Lol. Take care.
There should be a Sessions Compilation called "Yacht Rock" - or "Now That's What I Call YACHT ROCK"...Mid-Life Guys on yachts - CRACK ROCK
@@farrellmcnulty909 OMG! Sessions!! I haven't heard of that label in forever! 😂
I think Melinda was expecting a 69 joke from Phillip
🫢😳😏
Did you know Melinda that the spaceship on the front cover of the Boston album is really a guitar upside down?
I did know that. It's very cool! 😃♥️ Thank you and enjoy your weekend!
@@MelindaMurphy I think Melinda knows every detail of the Boston album front and back!! :)
Streaming is okay for being in a vehicle, since all the newer vehicles don't even come with a cd player. but at home Vinyl is final.
Exactly! 😃
