- In this video, I discuss records I regret buying. Great artists and great albums do not always equal a happy purchase. Follow along with me as I give you the run down on records I should have left at the store. I also show a hard to find record that was given to me by a for a I feature records from band/artists such as George Harrison, Journey, Michael Jackson, Stan Getz, Chick Corea, Bill Evans, Britney Spears, Yes, Duran Duran, Live, Joel Byrd and the Field Hippies and more.

I have an original 1970 George Harrison box set that sounds absolutely heavenly. Crystal clear, pure music. I love it.
The originals do sound great. I managed to find some from different countries and they all sound amazing.
Love my original unbelievable
My '70s copy looks beat up (I think I paid $5 for it), but sounds amazing. Old Capitol pressings (in Canada, anyway) are so durable.
yeh i hadforgottem our previuos colke tion we had the 70.capitol we listended to 80s then my brother got the 2000 haed to say which was better by then he had gotten better speakers i think am old hippy friend of ours gave to us wish atill had but we sold all
07 then yep few years later up up.up.indie store had latest version but was quite high priced may get the cd vetsion was way less
My original copy sounds great. A little muddier than I like. But its the production, not the vinyl. My favorite album of all the solo albums.
If you're looking at Beatles solo albums it's easy to think about John, Paul and George but an overlooked masterpiece is Ringo by Ringo. It features all four of The Beatles and some of the finest artwork by Klaus Voormann.
On any given day, RINGO might be my fave solo Beatles LP. It's just so joyous and heartfelt, no inter-Beatles sniping like on other albums by John, Paul & George, and no delusions of grandeur. And the guest musicians list is mind-blowing.
Several people have mentioned Ringo. It's great to see Ringo getting some love for his solo career. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
That " RINGO" (1973) album was probably the best Beatles album that never was.
I _think_ it's common consensus that the best four Beatles solo albums are Plastic Ono Band (1970), All Things Must Pass (1970), Band on the Run (1973) and Ringo (1973). Finding another four truly great albums by every member is something I've been incapable of. I think McCartney made a few more - in particular, Ram (1971) and Chaos & Creation in the Backyard (2005) - but while there are plenty of individual tracks by the other tree which stand tall, I don't think any album made by Lennon, Harrison & Starr was truly essential.
I would say that both Double Fantasy and Imagine are essential albums but it is obviously subjective. Personally I could take or leave Plastic Ono Band and prefer Mind Games.
You have a great channel and a great presentation! Thanks for replying to your followers’ questions!
Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
It's not a mouse. It's a cat clawing at the records on the shelf. Happened to me. 😂
The cat set the mouse up. The cat is highly intelligent.
Happened to me, too. Unless you want to build record shelves 4 or 5 feet off the ground, you have to choose between records or cats. Same thing with books -- I had a cat that sprayed the bottom shelf repeatedly. You may get rid of the smell, but those stains ain't going away. Also, uncaged birds will always find anything paper to chew on.
One of my cats used to do that too! Nowadays I keep my collection out of the reach of anyone but ME !
was gonna say the same thing
Several people have said that. For some reason, that makes me feel better. Lol.
Melinda, each video you make is thoughtful, intelligent and honesty. I have 1970 original 30 yr. anniv. 2014 remaster and the 50th anniversary version of George's masterpiece ATMP. The 50th anniversary has removed much of the reverb and echo in George's voice. His voice is out in front and unburied from Spector's Wall Of Sound. His voice is by no means powerful, but it is lyrical and wonderful to finally hear him without struggling. Give it another listen. Keep up the great work. Definitely your vids are among the best of vinyl reviews!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I agree that George's voice is more forward in this mix which was an improvement. I was just hoping for more. I should be getting some equipment upgrades soon. I will definitely give it another listen. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda! This is the very first video I've seen from you and I 've really enjoyed it. I see that you have a very wide and large taste for music and I love that. From now on I'll see more videos of yours and I'm positive I'll learn much from you. I appreciate it!
Thank you so much for giving me a chance. I really appreciate it. Take care. ♥️🤗
Such a positive light in this hobby and I always enjoy your takes and music recommendations. Keep it up!
Thank you so much! ♥️🤗
I love waking up and seeing that you have a new video posted, I’ll watch/listen to it during the whole coffee and getting ready for the day process, very inspiring and motivating😎🤘
Oh wow! I'm honored to be a part of your morning routine. 🤗 Thank you and take care.
You are not alone when it comes to buyers remorse! I can name numerous vinyl Lp’s I purchased when they were re-released on 180 gram, and found out there was no difference. With a few, the original releases sound better. You’ve got a great channel here! Very positive, along with your kind personality truly makes your videos always an enjoyable experience to watch! 😁👏💯
Some of the reissue stuff is so old, one really has to be aware that master tapes don't last forever, and even with the best storage, every play of a magnetic tape degrades the magnetic field slightly, so the original fidelity is diminished.
@@richardelliott8352 Spot on! You are absolutely correct!
I must agree with you about Melinda and her channel. There's no attitude, no pretense, just a love of vinyl records and music. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words. Take care.
180 gram vinyl was a marketing gimmick to rejuvenate vinyl sales.
Best solo Beatles > Ram - Call me crazy, but its actually my fave LP of all time (After MANY yrs of metaphysical thought) - Lennon's 1st solo proper (w/Mother, etc) also ranks at the top; But lets comment on more important matters > Your hair looks fab - Luv the new color & super long curls! Another real confessional vid Melinda - Keep up the great work...
Thank you for the kind compliments. ♥️🤗 I love Ram as well. Mother is an incredible song by John. Thank you and take care.
I love hearing stories and memories surrounding a particular music piece or a record! I would really enjoy hearing your story about your slow dance to Journey. I love your channel and I would love to spend a weekend perusing your collection.
Thank you! I'll share that story someday but it's probably more boring for others than it is to me. Lol. Take care. 😀
I really liked the slow dance memory to Journey as well.
You are so right Melinda about the Live - Throwing Copper! I was so bummed when I put it on my table as I absolutely love that record. It was so lifeless! Sad knowing that I will never spin it again. Definitely gonna be a streamer! Cheers to another great video!!
It was a huge disappointment. I think the CD might be better. Thank you and take care.
Great video Melinda. I think the most common mistake record buyers make these days is buying new releases. If you have a nice original copy - stick with it. Thats all you need. Greetings from Turkey.
Thank you for the tip. I will stick with an original unless a better sounding copy comes around. I try to research each purchase. Thank you and take care.
I just got 90125, which I've been wanting for a while... and am very happy with it. I had found the 90125 LIVE album months ago and have enjoyed that, too. I'm so sorry about your maxi single regret for OoaLH.
Your comments about album covers are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ON! I keep getting horrifically surprised randomly by these risque or even pornographic album covers. I also really appreciate your alert to parents, as we do often have kids in the room when watching your videos - and whatever we're viewing should be able to be safe for family - in our house. So THANK YOU!
Thank you for your comments. I have been told on many occasions that viewers appreciate that their children can be in the room when watching my videos. I wouldn't want to betray that trust. I hope this new shocking trend of explicit album covers ends soon.
The album 90125 is very good. I'm just not a fan of this remix. Lol. Thank you and have a great night!
@MelindaMurphy the band Charlie from the 70s had some great music but explicit covers. Also Blind Faith, and when I was a kid I was looking at my uncles albums and Can't Buy a Thrill by Steely Dan has a small yet revealing picture.
With such great music why do artists feel they need the put shady stuff on the cover?
Thanks Melinda , for your videos. I appreciate you.
Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
Love stopping by watching you Melinda. You crack me up about the Yes record and the mouse biting incident. 😂
I'm glad I can amuse you. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
It’s Truly my pleasure Melinda 😊 I know it’s not necessary but it’s just my way of showing my appreciation for all your work putting these videos out for all these years. I hope the Decade album brings you years of happy spinning 👍 Thanks for the shout out as well. Keep up the great work!
Thanks again Thomas. This record is now a crowned jewel in my collection. The album itself is amazing but the story behind it is what truly makes it so special. Thank you for being with me for all of this time. It's truly an honor. Take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Awesome thank you ❤️ agreed on the “story behind it…” btw.
lol - I was horrified for a second thinking you regretted getting Decade. I loved that cassette back in the day, need to track a down a vinyl copy for myself!
@@blewharvest you should move this comment to under the main video. It’s on replies to My comment. Confused me for a second 😂
I enjoyed the Owner of a Lonely Heart remix but I was also liked The Art of Noise, which it sounds like. Trevor Horn was involved in both projects. I can see where it might be a bit much for most listeners.
Solo Beatle favorites: John- Walls & Bridges, Paul- Venus & Mars, Ringo- Blast from Your Past, George- All Things Must Pass but just the first two records.
I love your choices for the Beatles solo albums! Venus and Mars♥️ Walls & Bridges♥️ Thank you and take care.
Love your channel! 😊
Thank you so much!! ♥️
What a wonderful gift. Decade has been on my want list for quite awhile. I really love 80’s era Duran Duran, so many get memories attached to the music. I’m a fan of the 12 “ singles also. I enjoy the alternate cover art on some of these. The poster is totally awesome. I honestly probably would have popped on it for the right price. Hopefully your enjoying your final days of summer. Take care
Hi Cindy. I hate to see summer go. It seems like it should still be June. ☹️
This era of Duran Duran is probably all I need. This is a hard record to find. It sounds pretty good when you consider how many songs are included. It's definitely worth picking up. That ET/MJ poster is just too funny. That pretty much sums up the early 80's. Thank you and take care.
I love all of Duran Duran's records but the one that makes me get goosebumps is Rio I absolutely love hungry like a wolf, Save a Prayer, Rio🎉❤
yeh agree with m. only record by them i would like to have but never see dj friend had loads of the 12 inch singles he played in clubs the ones he had leftover sold to a record store he got good dollars for wish i had a few they had some cool.mixes and great sound local indie stores i shop 2 never have either he probably had a dozen or so he was giving me a few but when he was offered big price for all i said no sell take the money i guess diehards sought after now
I think Ram is a killer PM album...my favorite!
It is! 🤗♥️ Thank you!
My favorite Beatle solo album is RAM (1971) by Paul & Linda McCartney.
That's a great album! ♥️🤗 Thank you!
Hey Melinda, I have the same George Harrison box on the green splatter - I'm a sucker for coloured vinyl! I actually haven't played mine from when I bought it so can't comment on sound quality - I guess I’ll have to play it to see!
The vinyl is definitely gorgeous. I wish the sound quality matched the beauty. 😀 Thank you and enjoy your weekend.
Hey Melinda thanks for letting me know about that live reissue I was thinking of ordering it but know that I know this love your videos been watching you for quite awhile after a day's work I love to kick back and chill and watch your videos peace and love
Thank you so much! I'm truly honored.
I honestly think that the CD for Live is just as good. If you see the vinyl on sale, maybe pick it up. ♥️🤗 Take care.
Always a good idea to sample music on streaming sites before buying the album, especially with ones you're not familiar with.
This is so true! I try to do that whenever possible. Thank you and take care.
Happens to all of us .... at times in the past I bought a album for maybe one or two songs. Having a Greatest Hits" album is taking the easy way out, and it cuts down on the pile. Continued success as always Lady M.
There are just some records and artists I don't need on vinyl. Lol. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphyI did own the original All Things Must Pass & I thought it was wonderful at the time, maybe is wasnt good, but I have never heard a version of it at all that I like. I thought the original Cat Stevens Catch Bull At Four explosive bass at that time was the best I ever heard, but I havent ever heard a version that I like, but I have never heard the original again. It was about 1972 that after the Beatles quit that people buying record players died down greatly. I really believe that rock, & especially jazz didnt get hugely popular intil 4 years ago, when people posted music on youtue. I knew very little about jazz until 4 years ago, & I have many friends that know little of jazz, but I do know its almost impossible to find used jazz records. Most young people that like rock music needs to know a little bit about the history of rock music, so to appreciate how it came about. I knew back then that there would be nobody in the future as good as the Beatles. I was in the middle 10 years of the hippie movement, but the older hippies were far more wild. Back then the men with lots of girlftiends wasnt looked down on, most men were in the Viet Nam war, with a lot of women around. It wasnt looked down on until about 1980 when people got tireed of so many people with kids on welfare. The hippies were mistreated in school, so ther hippies with kids threatened the teachers to stop whipping kids in 1980. I will be 69 in January. I dont know much of the Hank Williams & Elvis area time. Hank was very popular, but didnt make much money. But I remember the Beatles hurt Sinatra, Elvis, & loretta lynn verry much. But the only country that people liked was johnny Cash. I dont know much about tube equipment time. I did know in 1965 there was tube equipment, but I assume it was only a few audiophiles that were into tubes, i dont know. I think audiophiles got really big from 20 to 25 years ago. What puzzles me that women werent big into hi-end audiophiles, but the last 5 years women are big into records, & many women were into records in the sixties. the early sixties the Beatles hurt everyone. Use to be that people in country was there because they wasnt good enough for rock & roll. The Beatles hurt everyone, but I remember the Rolling Stones were pretty big. Then later years Led zeppelin was hurting everyone, I guess after the Beatles quit. We always waited for the Beatles to come out with their new albums. Americans have never been great on albums like Europe & Japan. The early sixties people made $1 an hour, but $6 for a record during the entire sixties was hugely expensive then. But around the late sixties to about 1971 most people were into records, but most people had about 10 records. I think Seargeant pepper got a lot more people into music, & most of the musicians were British. I had one friend that had piles of rock records. There were some rock bands in my area, but very few people realized the huge magnitude of rock guitarists around. I dont know, but there must have been huge people into guitar music in other areas besides my area. I think cds brought people hugely into rock music, but still the US is way behind Europe in good equipment & music. I miss those times, the women dressed very pretty, nowadays people dont get out of the house to associate with others. Video games is the reason, Many dont know that real old people are almost as much into videogames as much as youngsters. CDS sales are slow because people already have piles of cds, & cds are still hugely popular. I like everything, i did copy much lps from $10,000 record players from youtube with WAV files to my hard drive. UA-cam has taken all the vinyl off & copy protected its site. I think people will get tired of the inferior sounding downloads.
I know how you feel. Tomorrow is a new day and new hunt for great vinyl. Gotta love it. Great Video!!!!
You got that right! Thank you! 🤗♥️
Melinda, we have a weekly coffee break as well, mostly because I absolutely love to listen to your cool tradewinds breeze voice in the morning and see the smile you back it up with. Smiles and voices on women are their most underrated features and the things I most cherish. Having them both filled with intelligence and charm only increases the attraction of them and you combine all of that. I am not a vinyl collector, never have been, but I do understand collecting and I am always interested in hearing from collectors, especially when they can package related discussions of same with such wit and wisdom as you do. I particularly enjoyed this video because it's something we all can pretty much relate to, buyer's remorse, but seeing the maturity in the way you approach it is inspiring. I collect movies on disc and believe me when I watch one that was a blind buy (i.e. one I have never seen before and an am not real knowledgeable about) and it rots up my precious leisure time, my first inclination is to find the nearest bulldozer, but your plan of giving some of these another chance later on is far more mature and healthy and productive. So many thanks for that and, as always, for your beautiful videos which consistently beat out donuts as the most delicious sidekicks to my coffee. --Glen
Oh wow! Thank you for the sweet compliments about my channel. 🤗 The fact that I am mentioned in the same sentence with donuts is truly an honor. I love donuts. 😀
I appreciate that you mentioned the time we waste seeing a bad movie. That is definitely something we have all done. That is very frustrating and actually pretty close to what I'm discussing in this video. Time and money are precious commodities and it's frustrating when we feel either of those are wasted. Thank you and have a great weekend.
For me, no solo Beatle LP surpassed Paul and Linda's Ram. Still sounds so fresh. The production is gorgeous throughout, but the songs are so strong and brilliantly executed.
I agree! It's a great album. It deserved a mention. Thank you and have a great weekend.
Fireman, thanks for putting the bug in my ear. I've owned "Ram" since its release. I didn't care for it at the time, so I shelved it. I have not listened to it since. I think I'll pull it out and give it another chance. My musical tastes have definitely changed. For instance, I purchased Joni Mitchell "Court and Spark" in 1972. Upon purchase, I don't think I even played the whole album. So on the shelf. for fifty years. I was thinking about selling it, so I took it down and played it through. I sat there entranced. Man, what have I been missing for the last fifty years? So, maybe, that same thing will happen with "Ram". I'm going to give it a chance, and report back. Re Melinda's comments on "All Things Must Pass", well I own it as well. It's mostly an incredible piece of work, but can be a little repetitive and some songs are lackluster. I thought maybe it should have been a single album, not a double. Maybe less would have been more.
I love Ram. But it's just a Typical early Paul album; three Beatle quality songs, a bit of filler and a couple half baked love songs. But my love for Paul makes me listen to it all the way through. Like McCartney, he didn't drive himself to write the whole album on a par with Too Many People.
Best ex-Beatles solo LP - Paul and Linda "Ram".
That's a great one. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
I splurged on the ATMP box back in 2021...have to say I love it. I probably won't listen to the vinyl again, but enjoy the CDs and swag. The Dolby Atmos mix of the album is especially nice. Thanks for sharing Melinda!
I think most people are happy with it and the extras were very nice. Thank you and take care.
Melinda, I always enjoy these videos! I am that guy, sitting in our living room, sipping my morning coded and enjoying your videos. Until next week then?!
That is awesome! Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
I'm really jealous of that Joe Byrd and the Field Hippies album. Quite hard to find here in Europe. Great psych album that I have been after for many years. Give it another chance, it will probably grow on you as it's not one of the most accessible albums there is.
I will revisit it from time to time. I do appreciate that it's not a common record and I'm grateful to have it. Thank you and take care.
I'm not all that thrilled with the 50th Anniversary issue of All Things Must Pass either, but the reason for me to get it was the version with the Demos and Studio Outtakes. The Demos were very well recorded and are mostly acoustic versions of the songs on the album. They're awesome! I'm not going to get into "what the best post Beatles, solo album is". Who's to say what's the best? I will say what my favorite is, it's John Lennon's Walls and Bridges album.
Walls and Bridges is awesome and definitely worth mentioning. There is no right or wrong answer, just our opinions. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I give you the ultimate compliment... of all the you tube record channels ... your channel makes me want to play and listen to my records
Thank you
That is probably the highest compliment I could get. Thank you very much for the encouragement. ♥️🤗
I am new to vinyl sound appreciation and I thank you for confirming and assisting in my confidence in discernment. I love George Harrison and bought All Things Must Pass recent reissue. I kept putting it on and just being disappointed every time, it is just flat. I thought it was me and I wasn't trusting my ears, but your review reassures me that I can trust my ears. Thank you!
Unfortunately, your ears are correct. It's pretty dull. Unfortunately, I no longer have hope that they can improve the sound of the record but the songs and music are still good. ♥️🤗 Thank you and take care.
Well, I think Ram is an almost perfect album by Paul and I listen to it way more than any other solo Beatles album. Second for me would be RINGO from 1973, with all Beatles appearances as well as my favorite vocalist, Harry Nilsson! Band on the Run is a close third. Thanks for asking, and for the video.
yeh i have iriginal ram foldout with photos artwork.havent found first ringo.but did roses 81 also haa all 4 beatles sealed neighbors sale i did find band on the run nice original same sale and double best of mcmansions neighbor moving each for 10 dollars and gearge walls and brigdes appke soundtrack.also the 99 tourpack mac. but 2 cds tshirt poster stickers poster pins etc. in a crate vinly size package maybe not the best mac record but a few good songs ironically i had tickets to a show on 99 tour friend got me bt too far away at the time so have never seen live my younger sister had passes to a nashville show years ago but i dont think she met mac the ringo 73 is hard to find at least local indie stores
Ram is awesome. No arguments there. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Really enjoying your channel Melinda . Cheers Craig from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks so much! 🤗♥️
I absolutely love your videos. ❤
I always have a cup of coffee when watching your fantastic vids 🎉
That's cool. 🤗 Thank you and enjoy your weekend. 🤗♥️
Great video Melinda! I saw Journey on the Frontiers tour. A very new Bryan Adams opened up. I also love Duran Duran too. Best wishes always! 😃
What an amazing concert. I wish I could have been there. I did see Brian Adams back in the day. ♥️ This Duran Duran compilation is terrific. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy Very awesome! Keep rocking always Melinda! 😃🤘
Melinda, thank you for the video. Very enjoyable once more. Regards
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
Great video Melinda. To me, the best solo Beatles album is RAM by McCartney. I have an MOV version of Live Throwing Copper and it sounds great. If you can find that version, you will be happy. Rock on!
Ram is very good. I like it too. I should have bought the MOV version of Throwing Copper. I'm sure it's significantly better. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
My favorite part is you holding the ET/MJ poster while you are cracking up! Phillip won't let you hang it on the wall?! My favorite Beatle solo albums are RAM , Band on the Run, RINGO and Cloud Nine and I really dig Wild Life...just picked up the deluxe edition. I do have some modern re-issues that don't sound as good as the originals. One that comes to mind is Captain Beefheart Lick My Decals Off, Baby! It's the sister album to Trout Mask Replica (I know you have that one!) Great video and take care!
That poster is crazy. I'm not sure my husband would even want it in our house. Lol. I'm glad someone finally mentioned Cloud Nine. 🤗♥️ Thank you and take care.
For what it's worth I just wanted to say thank you for the heads up on that Muddy Watters Brass & the Blues record from Elemental. I picked it up last weekend and really enjoyed it.
I'm so glad. It's a great album. ♥️🤗 Thank you for letting me know. Take care.
Thanks again for you personal, unique take on this.
Thank you very much! 🤗♥️
I just stumbled upon your video; I feel like I need to do a deep dive on your channel now haha! Great topic and I totally understand your reasoning on these. By the way, I totally agree about Harrison and McCartney’s albums being the best solo offerings! And it’s funny…I don’t know that I’d buy Live on vinyl either, but I have the cd and love it. In fact, they’re first two albums are excellent, but I’m good with owning them on cd! 😂
The CD for Throwing Copper sounds just as good if not better than this anniversary addition. However, there is a Music On Vinyl addition that other people are saying is very good. Thank you for checking out my channel. Have a great weekend. 🤗♥️
Hi, those records at the top left of your shelves, are they John Coltrane albums? The spine design looks very similar to my John Coltrane CD collection.
Some are John Crane records. They are the Acoustic Sounds Impulse label series. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Hey Melinda, sorry about the Yes album, I have bought a few records in the past where I bought it for the singles I love, but it’s totally different to the single release. So now what I do is stream the album first before I purchase it, to prevent purchases I regret! . Also have the original 1989 pressing of Decade as well, love all tracks on the album, thanks for the excellent video content as usual.
Decade is amazing. It has all of the Duran Duran songs that I love. ♥️ I try to stream albums first but this maxi single was an impulse buy. I thought to myself, "It's Owner of a Lonely Heart. What could go wrong?" 😄😄😄 Everything. Thank you and take care.
Melinda, please tell me about your record shelving. I have my collection on BOOKSHELVES and it's an accident waiting to happen (with the weight). I love the setup and style of your shelving. Is it something I can purchase or is it custom made? Thank you. Love your insights on vinyl collecting!
I purchased very inexpensive Walmart bookshelves. They were only $50 each and I stacked one on top of the other. My husband anchored them to the wall to provide the proper support for all of the weight these bookshelves are holding. That's a viral thing to do. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
I've just come across your channel and enjoyed it very much. Being in the UK and a massive Duranie, I own all the original release albums. Each one of them are still mint and play like new.
The one thing about I've found about coloured special editions is that though nice for collecting most have noise issues which can mar the listening experience.
It's wonderful that you have originals in such great shape. ♥️🤗 They are hard to come by these days.
I personally find that if a black vinyl version is quiet, the colored version is quiet. The newer Paul McCartney releases are a good example of that. If the standard version is noisy then the colored vinyl is very noisy. I think it boils down to the quality of the vinyl used and not necessarily the color. That's just my opinion though. Thank you and take care.
I agree with you about Band On The Run and All Things Must Pass being at the tippy top. Next to those, Ringo's Ringo album and Goodnight Vienna. I do regret getting the 50th edition of All things Must Pass simply because of the noisy vinyl. I sent one back and got another one in the same shape. I'm taking they were both from the same bad batch.
Noisy vinyl is very frustrating. ☹️ This release just wasn't as good as it should have been and George deserved better on my opinion. Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
Such a great topic and I'm right there with ya Melinda. I just recently was going through my library and I was coming to the realizing that I have some titles that I have been wondering why I have them. I don't know maybe I'm gonna have a tag sale this fall. LOL. As far as the Beatles are concerned, my favorite is John Lennon, love ALL his solo efforts. Thanks again.
John was wonderful. It does make sense to clear out the collection occasionally. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
First time seeing your channel. I love your conversational style.
Vinyl costs a fortune here in South Africa with our Monopoly money currency, so buyer's remorse is a potential nightmare. So, thank you for the heads-up on a few of those pressings 🇿🇦
It's hard to make very many mistakes in this economy. Records are very pricey these days. Thank you and take care.
I love the 3-demential quality of your shirt.❤️
Thank you! 🤗♥️
Melinda, when I saw you pull out big box set ATMP 50th, I realized I had it in my closet, still in the original shipping box. I guess I'll leave it sealed up until "whenever"!! ---- Love your channel, thanks for your hard work! ------ Curious, what are those tiltles on the top shelf over your right shoulder? It looks like multiple copies of a couple of titles? Have a Vinyl Week! Best, Steve
If you haven't missed your copy of All Things Must Pass yet then keeping it sealed is the way to go. Lol.
The records on that shelf are from the Acoustic Sounds Impulse label releases. I also have some Blue Note Tone Poets as well. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Love the collection of Impulse! jazz recordings in the upper left.
Thank you. They are amazing records. Have a great weekend!
Very timely topic! On your program last week, you showed a copy of your Vinyl Me Please release of Elton John's 'Honky Chateau'. It was the first Elton John album I bought upon its release in 1972. So I bought the Vinyl Me Please pressing last week, and I'm sorry to say it sounds a little bright compared to two earlier pressings I own. Maybe I need to give it another listen, but I'm wondering if I can return it (I'm not a member, so it wasn't cheap). I feel bad because your reviews are always spot on; this release is the only time I've had to differ with your positive review! Favorite solo Beatles: Band On The Run, Ringo, Double Fantasy, Cloud Nine. I know you know the solo artist on each one. Best to you, take care.
I'm so sorry you are disappointed with the Elton John record. I'm not sure what their return policy is. I would never want to steer someone in the wrong direction. I hope this does get resolved. Best wishes and again, I'm sorry. Take care.
I really enjoyed your video of the challenge of dealing with the fact that you just end up buying records that aren't as great as you'd hope they would be, or they get played once when you buy them and then end up on the shelf for too many years. I just increased my collection by 50% with a huge auction purchase, bringing me to 496 records. I love the selection, of having 'new' music to listen to in the coming months. But while I'm doing that, my the albums in my 'original' collection will probable be ignored. But such is life as a vinyl fan.... Also love the 'pets are the new grandchildren' / 'plants are the new pets' phrase from your daughter :) There may be a t-shirt marketing opportunity awaiting you with that Melinda!
I died laughing when my daughter told me that. 😄 It would make a good t shirt for girls her age.
I hope you enjoy your new collection purchase. That's pretty exciting. Thank you and take care.
Great video once again. I really appreciate your honesty about your vinyl regrets, it makes me feel better about the mistakes I've made over the years with regards to vinyl collecting. Two of the worst ones are a picture disc reissue of Out of the Blue by ELO. I didn't realise it was on picture disc until I got it home and it sounds awful, worse than my rather damaged copy from the 1970s but luckily I was able to get another undamaged 1970s copy of it. The picture disc now resides with the other bad vinyl buys. The other really bad buy was a 12 inch single of Gary Moores Still Got the Blues for you which had been graded as excellent but is in fact unplayable and I really should have returned it to Ebay but I just didn't have the energy at the time. I did try again via another seller and got a very clean copy. The album cover that looks like a mouse chewed on it looks a lot like the spines on some of my records but that was caused by my cats using them as a scratching post,(they're now in a cat free zone)maybe that might help you feel better about that album?? So glad you now have Decade, it's a great album and is a regular on my TT. Your videos are always entertaining and informative and I look forward to the next one.
I think you're right. Several people have said it's likely cat scratches. That actually makes me feel better. Lol.
The ELO picture disc would look very cool framed on your wall. ♥️ Thank you and take care.
I have that same shirt! Love it !
It's a cool shirt! 😀♥️ Thank you!
I found the Beatles red and blue albums on colored vinyl sealed on Apple records. I love your enthusiasm for vinyl and music.
What a great find! 🤗 Thank you very much!
Great show Melinda
Thank you! ♥️🤗
Amazingly interesting video, Melinda 🤔💯
Glad you think so! Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
Welcome indeed!🤗❤@@MelindaMurphy
The picture of your video and the title immediately led me to think your were going to basically say your didn't like All things must pass. So I almost didn't even watch your Vid. However Im glad I was wrong. If someone asked me what my favorite album is of all time, I could never answer because there is just too many I love- however if I had to I might just say All Things Must Pass. I just LOVE it.
It's a wonderful album. My criticism is of the sound quality only, not the music. It's a masterpiece in my opinion. ♥️ I'm so glad you took a chance and watched my video. Thank you and have a terrific day. ♥️🤗
Ref the spine damage, did you try turning it inside out, so to speak? If it's a gatefold you can do that, especially if your not a fan of the cover, did it with one of mine, looks great now 😊
That's a good idea. Thank you for the suggestion. 😀 Take care.
I stumbled across your channel and you were talking about Duran Duran. Do you own the Arcadia album from Duran Duran? It’s probably one of their best albums they ever made.
I don't own that record but I do like that album. I remember buying the cassette for an old boyfriend at Christmas back when I was in high school. Thank you and take care.
More of this! I'm no UA-camr but do collect vinyl. Got a few regrets. Gratitude
Thank you very much! ♥️🤗
I'm all for having an open mind to music and life in general, but I refuse to work to try and get into music that doesn't grab me from the beginning. Problem is there isn't much new that blows me away. So I'll remain stuck in my yesteryear wonderland for the foreseeable future..😁 great video, what do you wanna bet some people STILL found something they'd like to purchase? Possibly from you
Haha! Hopefully not in this video. 😳 I'm mostly stuck in the past with my musical tastes as well. Thank you and take care.
Nice "frontiers" shirt 😊which has my favorite journey song "separate ways(worlds apart)!😊
Good choice! I love that song too. Thank you and take care.
@@MelindaMurphy 😃
I can tell you firsthand we as a 60's, 70's, 80's and some 90s true Rock and metal fan and yes aor music you did wonderfully when you purchase the journey has to be mastered extended-range recording a Frontiers as it is a masterpiece in itself let alone this Deluxe coffee is amazing and I'm pretty sure you know it that's why you're wearing the shirt beautiful shirt beautiful album awesome video on buyer's remorse I experienced it daily LOL you win some you lose some and then somewhere in the middle you can sell off some of the stuff you don't need anyways PS I just subbed, liked and will be watching in the very near future🎉😊
Hi Melinda! The best sounding pressing of ATMP is from the George Harrison LP box set, IMHO. Kinda hard to come by, I know. Others say the next best, or best even, is the one from RSD years ago.
That box set looks so nice. I forgot about that pressing. Thank you for mentioning it. Take care.
Melinda, your Yes experience reminded me of a Santana's "Inner Secrets" LP I re-bought to replace my original copy destroyed in a fire (I mentioned this in a previous post on another video). My favorite track is "One Train (Don't Make No Prison)," but on this album that track was disco-fied. Same song, but the breakdown sction was longer and sheer disco, the bass was different, plus there was a sound effect not in the original. I didn't like that. I later found another sealed, original pressing copy with the "proper" version of the song. The ET record made me smile; you bought it for the poster! Sounds like something I would do. With as many records as you have, I wonder if there are any more like these you showed that, given a second chance on, you wouldn't take it.
Oh no!!! I hate when they make a great song into a disco song. Lol.
I could probably do part two of this video if I thought hard enough about it. 😀 Thank you and take care.
I regret an impulse buy at a record store last year. I saw a USED copy of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band in colored vinyl, and I had to buy it. However, when I got home to listen to it, there was so much white noise.
I should have asked the record store to play it before I bought it.
BTW... where did you buy the Journey shirt. I love it
I have had this Journey shirt for many years. I bought it in St Augustine Florida.
I'm sorry to hear you got a disappointing sounding Sgt Pepper. I haven't seen a colored vinyl version of it before. 🤗 Interesting! Thank you and take care.
@MelindaMurphy I used to have a rockin Journey, Frontiers shirt back in 1985. I miss it. 😢
2:11 - There was nothing hard for me about passing on the All Things Must Cost a Grand box. Andy Nicoles and Tom Hunyadi (2 Legs- a McCartney podcast) bought the box and showed off the contents and I just scratched my head, "guys...what?" I ended up getting the 5-record set and downloaded the audio files from I-Tunes (ripped and burned them onto blank CDs as backup).
The 5 record set makes more sense than my purchase in hindsight. You got all of those bonus tracks. I just got another bad sounding version of that record. 😄 Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, I love your channel and your collection is so awesome. I also want to tell you that I think your hair is beautiful. 😍
I also have the original, but someone stole one of the disks shortly after I bought it and it is one thing to steal something, but Why didn’t they just take the whole set ? 🤔
Thank you for the kind compliment. 🤗♥️ It is weird that someone took just one disc. 🤔 Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
Had to laugh when you presented the Britney Spears album - was so not expecting that to appear!!
I shouldn't own it. Lol. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, I really enjoyed this video. I'm holding in my hands The exorcist soundtrack that I bought in 1974. It's on the Warner Brothers label that has the street with the trees on either side. The catalog number is w2774. Interestingly enough, it doesn't say original motion picture soundtrack it says music excerpts from The Exorcist. I'm looking forward to the direct sequel that's coming out in October that co-stars Ellen Burstyn.
Wow! Great find. I will have to check into the new movie. I sure hope it's good. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
I agree with your points in this video, asthetics play an important part of purchases I make online. I will use magnification when possible to examine closely what I am buying. Covers mean just as much to me as the condtion of the vinyl. Writing on the front and back cover is an automatic pass, split seams, water or dirt damage, etc. Nope. My collection is for display when I'm not playing a particular vinyl, keep the entire package as pristine as possible!
I normally wouldn't buy an album that has that much damage to the spine. There wasn't a picture online and I threw caution to the wind. That didn't turn out very well. Lol. Thank you and take care.
I own a mint condition album by The Byrds
it's the Greatest Hits album from 1967 "Mono" absolutely love it.
Thank you for sharing... always enjoy your videos... be well 🙏🏼🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶🙏🏼
I love The Byrd's and it's getting harder to find their albums in decent condition. Nice find! Thank you and take care.
Notorious Byrd Brothers - ultimate
Totally agree with you on ATMP. The 2000 mix is much better than the recent remaster. It’s my go to for that particular record. The remaster is still worth getting for the supplemental music.
I agree. For the extras, this recent release was a goldmine. Thank you and take care.
Hi Melinda, I'm not a big Britney Spears fan but I loved her early singles so I bought the My Prerogative album on CD when it came out. After getting into vinyl I really wanted to get it on vinyl but it was so expensive but I jumped on the chance to get it when it was offered at a reasonable price. I regret buying it now as about a year later it was re-issued on coloured vinyl at about half the price I paid so basically I regret getting it too but for different reasons.
Hopefully, you play and enjoy it more than I do. More importantly, I worry about Britney in general. She seems to be falling apart right before our eyes. ☹️ Her music is fun. Thank you and take care.
Hey Melinda, music is an opinion and my thoughts on Live throwing copper is opposite to what you think,I bought it and I think every track on this is amazing, and sound wise for me,I think its amazing.I also preordered the Van Halen ll box set(Sammy era)are you getting it?I didn't have those yet so I preordered it.Keep em coming...love your vids.
I ordered the Van Halen box set. ♥️ I'm so glad it is finally coming out. I'm equally glad that your Live album sounds good. Thank you and take care. ♥️🤗
Another great feature Melinda
Wise words on Michael Jackson and hey ifhe is found guilty of any wrongdoing in the future should that deter us from his music?
If we start listening to albums based on the purity of their creators we would be denying ourselves a lot of music
For example many jazz musicians and classical composers lived reprehensible lives
Thought provoking feature thanks Melinda
What you're saying is absolutely true. There are a lot of very imperfect people out there. (Me included) If we are ever to prove that MJ did what he was accused of, it would probably be harder to listen to his music. I think it's always going to remain an accusation that wasn't proven in the court of law. Thank you and take care.
I have that live anniversary record. I didn't think it sounded bad but I'll spin it again tonight to give it another listen
Hopefully on your stereo equipment it sounds great. It sounds very flat to me. Thank you and take care.
Okay I'm spinning it now and it sounds good to me it's not audiophile quality but on par with a regular pressing. I have a modest system though. Technics 1200 Ortofon 2M bronze, ifi phono 2, Cambridge audio amp, Martin Logan ELS speakers
Thought provoking video! I have the original of All Things Must Pass and that's enough for me. Albums I tend to regret are from when I started replacing my cds with vinyl about 12 years ago and bought reissues that turned out to have digital in the chain, especially if I could have bought an original... By the time ATMP 50th came out I had learned my lesson and stick with originals unless I can't afford the original. Next video idea - you just hold up the air and tell about those albums like The Exorcist you saw in the store and wish you bought but didn't and now they're $200 and you're not going to spend that. I have a LOT of those! Thanks for your videos as always!
I could make a lot of videos based on what I passed on that I now regret. 🤗 Oh well, I can't have everything. Thank you and take care.
I would love to see Melinda do a video about the records she regrets NOT buying, that would be a great watch (and would make for a great comments section as we all have examples!)
and I love that you are honest about sometimes streaming is the better option. Sure some albums are purely better on vinyl, other times streaming is more practical
Sometimes there just isn't enough of a difference in sound quality to justify the price. CDs and streaming are great alternatives to just ok vinyl pressings. Thank you and take care.
I agree, All Things Must Pass and Band on the Run are amazing albums.
I love them ♥️ Thank you and take care.
Melinda, I love your T-shirt you have great taste in music stay frosty beautiful❤
Thank you so much! 🤗♥️
@@MelindaMurphy your always welcome sweetie stay frosty 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I finally got all of my vinyl out of my closets and I'm getting ready to sort them. I have some Japanese Duran Duran imports that I'm curious about finding out their worth.
Years ago, unbeknownst to me at the time, one of my cats had been using some of my albums as a scratching post!! They look like that mouse-eaten record spine you showed. I was - and STILL AM - horrified!!
I would much prefer it to be cat scratches. Lol. It's unfortunate but life happens. The Duran Duran imports would be very cool. I hope you enjoy them. Thank you and take care.
I forgot to say this before Melinda but I is So Incredible that you reply to Every single comment. No other does that. Another thing that makes your channel my favorite VC channel 😊
I started my channel so that I could talk music with people as passionate about it as I am. This is the best part. ♥️ Thank you for your generosity and for the kind comments. Take care.
I can totally relate to this video! I probably regret buying 1 out of every 5 LPs I buy, not because they're bad, necessarily, but because I didn't think it through, or didn't research the particular pressing or box set. I work pretty long hours, and often don't have the time to research each purchase in advance. So I make some sloppy mistakes.
Also, I'm a sucker for nice packaging, and for box sets based around classic albums. But those are ones I often regret. The box has the main album (which I already have, in most cases), plus extras like outtakes and live performances of some of the tracks. And great packaging. The thing is, I listen to the extra material at most 1 time, and often I don't even bother with it.
Thanks for another great video! See you in the next one.
I understand. The appeal of the box sets can be irresistible. Like you, I often do not revisit the demo tracks. Thank you and take care.
Is the All Things Must Pass the remixed version!! A lot of people can’t hear that much difference between that and the original version The splattered vinyl on that would make me keep it though!!
Yes, I like the looks of the record. I plan to keep it. It is remixed but it's still not great. 😳 Thank you and take care.
We love your videos
Thank you so much. 🤗♥️
My favorite ex-Beatle albums:
5 Ram - Paul
4 Band on the Run - Paul
3 Imagine - John
2 Plastic Ono Band - John
1 All Things Muss Pass - George
Thanks for another fun video.
Great list! 🔥 Thank you!
All Things Must Pass I bought on CD (3-disc set). I like it, though I do not listen to the two additional CDs. I knew I would not play the record, so I was clever with that buy. Thanks again!
You were smart to buy the package that was right for you. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
Melinda Hey! I enjoy the videos and having regrets on the experiences of getting and having records you get , yes as we collectors have to be mindful of todays prices and marketing of the records. Journey and "Frontiers" a disappointment. The price and not sounding anything better then the original. I got original copy that I got in good condition plays like a dream for $2. I couldn't go wrong so and I am weary to Half Speed Masters that are out there on albums and never gotten one, You do a great job on this video . Thanks vinyl friend. TC
I will probably be more careful moving forward when buying audiophile pressings like that one. Frontiers is a great album but I wasted a lot of money on that copy. Thank you and take care.
Best Beatles solo album? To me (I'm sure I'm in the minority) John Lennon Walls and Bridges. I also love The Plastic Ono Band. Lennon was my favorite by far. Do you find that over time you end up selling some of these regard buys? I find that from time to time I have to "trim the heard" as they say. thx
Eventually, I can see me letting go of many of them. They will definitely be considered in my next purge.
Walls and Bridges is a great album. The Plastic Ono Band has some sad moments but is great as well. Thank you and take care.
Another great video. I think I suffer more from buyers remorse than buying regret for sound/material issues. I mean many of my purchases for last 20yrs remain unopened and I watch all of you on UA-cam for reviews. I still have 4 preorders on the go right now and am having an Old Age dilemma of deciding whether I should be having all my records & putting my wife in a precarious position of having to get rid of them after I am gone. 2024 will more than likely be the year of selling off my collection 😥😥 Your videos are always great to watch Melinda
I do think about leaving my records for my husband or daughter to deal with. However, many record stores will come and pick them up and pay for them. That seems pretty simple to me. I sometimes question why I have so many records but having them here when I want to hear them is a great feeling. Thank you and take care.
I hope you can hang on to them. ♥️
@@MelindaMurphy i thought about that but even Mike at In-Groove said most stores would be looking for 50% of Median. I could get more selling them individually or smaller 'packs'.
Awesome video
Thank you! 🤗♥️
