Andy gave me this drill as part of my coaching plan with him. He can comment about the difference it made in my ball striking. It is frustrating to get comfortable with, but it makes a big difference. Highly recommend trying this.
I’ve been using this drill to slow my swing I tend to rush a bit, now when I’m playing I feel like I pause at the top and people still say I swing fast, the difference between feel and real is so vast 👍.
I have tried with my 8 iron only. Your absolutely correct it takes time. I think I hit one ball out of a larger bucket. Sticking with it has started to pay off….
Hey, I’m not ashamed. I’ll spend 30 minutes at the range with this drill. Well maybe a little ashamed. I’ll be at the end of the range alone do this. Not in the peak pits. 🤣 But I’ll be doing it, again. I used to do this at my peak fairly regularly. 🥂
Well, the only reason why Tiger hated the drill was that Butch didn't know how to teach it. If you keep pushing back with your left wrist joint, at the top of your backswing, your right elbow will actually drop down whilst the club keeps moving back. A player should never actively pause at the top. They should keep pushing back with their left wrist joint; and, keep breathing in, whilst they do this. The natural forces will then fuse the hands. The right hand reacts against the left wrist joint etc. A player then can trigger their downswing by fully fusing their hands together, which will ensure that the upper part of their right arm meets up with their right side, in the start of the downswing.
@@andycartergolf Well, @ 4.45 in this video: ua-cam.com/video/5obIcxIgvVc/v-deo.htmlsi=8tjuHaCQPHWVtSoq Tiger says the same thing about a players swing that I say about his swing in this video: ua-cam.com/video/i7mz0dS_dg0/v-deo.htmlsi=aPMm5OOLwwYPXR9h But, I made my video before I studied Bill Mehlhorn's video; and, I now know more about how the right leg works. And, I wouldn't entirely agree with Tiger's analysis of the players swing. She goes over on her right foot because she has a straight right foot; and, is trying to retain the position of her right knee; and her knee is facing straight in front of her at the top of her backswing. But, as Bobby Jones explains in his video, the right foot should be turned out, slightly. And, as Bill Mehlhorn states in his video: we should turn in the backswing just as we would if we were to turn to our right. And, when we turn to our right we push our body around with the left side of our right leg. And, the simple fact is that the whole of the right leg should be allowed to rotate to the right, in the backswing. The leg has to rotate when the left side of the leg pushes the body around. Bobby Jones would be a prime example of this. I have tried to illustrate this in the video: ua-cam.com/video/o56qmtWXroY/v-deo.htmlsi=yQB-qJyCwpbFqE6g When we look at his top of the backswing position we can see that his right leg and body are in the exact same position that they would be in if he were to turn to look at the camera.

I’ve used this drill using the PW through driver. It’s amazing how being patient at the top, a pause, improves my ball striking.
Great drill so swing changes and feels

Superb drill
Thank you!!
Interesting drill - and if its good enough for Tiger then its good enough for anyone
Cheers
Exactly! And it took Tiger a year to master it.
The idea is to have the club still accelerating at impact. If your acceleration stops before impact you lose distance and directional control.
Do you actually incorporate a slight pause in your real swing or just try to replicate the arms dropping first ?
No just as a drill but can definitely help with tempo in your full speed swing
@@andycartergolf ok so you just swing normal but feel the arms drop first as you start down
Great stuff and drill. Would you recommend trying with the driver?
Not so much with driver until you can strike the irons well but i do recommend it for swing changes & building feels

Tiger needed you as a coach then
@@andycartergolf Well, as a matter of fact, I gave him the swing tip that enabled him to come back and win the Masters. I can prove it, too.
Sounds interesting. Tell me more about

Idyllic 😂
Really great drill, but I can see why Tiger hated it....
Yeh it’s annoying but very worthwhile
