So true - Golf Channel used to have wonderful programming and interesting personalities. Next to nothing now unless you want to pay for Golf Pass or whatever it's called...
I have so many of these shows on tape 📼 from the late 90s, early 00s. From Jim McLean, David Ledbetter, Dave Pelz, Paul Runyan, Butch Harmon, etc. I was introduced to Harvey Penick and Moe Norman during this era of TGC. Truly an era for those who wanted to educate themselves about the game and history. Today, I don't know what they're doing.
Goddammn golf channel used to have some serious quality content like this without all the bells and whistles. Just incredible information from the best. Idk what original programming they're running now.
What Butch talked about quiet foot work and speeding your arms up on the downswing is passé and is taught correctly just the opposite today. Ground Reaction Force ( GRF) turning the linier forces from the the ground to build a stronger; faster circular motion and direct path of the club head to the ball with reactive hands, arms, and club head is now what it is all about. And at 74 after playing golf for 40 years I finally feel the greatness in my own swing. Cheers
@Big Bright Colors ASMR Agree with your comments except for one thing - this isn’t science lol. Newtonian physics is being applied by folks who never passed a high school physics class much less post grad kinesiology. 😏
It's hypothetical. Who knows. People say the same about Mike Tyson, had his mentor Cus D'Amato, not passed away when he was 19. Had he lived until Tyson was maybe 25, Tyson would've gone undefeated. But, we'll never know.
If you can learn one thing from the pros, it's that there's more than one way to skin a cat. As Arnie said, swing your swing. You can always improve things, but you've also gotta be yourself.
But Hogan had a steep shoulder turn relative to his position at setup, so it was not as flat as someone with a flatter shoulder turn in which the left arm is parallel to the shoulder at the top of the swing.
Do you have some of those episodes from "Forgotten Heroes"? Like the one with Harry Cooper and Paul Runyan? This is the one where Paul quotes Byron Nelson, where Byron uses a bad word (Believe it or not).
Peter was great as host. I think he still does voiceover work along with golf and speaking events. He's still active on social media on Twitter and Instagram I believe.
He is on Xm now. Pretty sure he was terminated after Mr Palmer and Mr Callaway were on the show talking about club restrictions...trampoline, size etc. Kessler disagreed w Mr Palmer.
Winner of a video, been searching for "right shoulder golf swing downswing" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a great one off guide for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method without the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my brother in law got cool results with it.
God, I miss this show SOO much! As a pre-teen to my late teens, i used to watch the Golf Channel 24/7.
The glory days of The Golf Channel. I used to watch the Australasian Tour events at night, before golf was on 24/7! Thanks for posting this.
Gosh I wish we could go back to this kind of show
The Yoda of golf instruction
Still gold 20 years later. All these swing fads come and go but nothing beats butch’s instruction

Saved me a few hundred bucks from this Master Class. Thanks!
I remember watching this live. Pure nostalgia.
The Golf Channel used to be so great.

Golden era of golf history. Young Tiger with Butch was the best combination.

I learned how to play golf watching this show in the late 90's.

You wouldn’t happen to know who is playing the guitar on the golf channel at the beginning of the commercials?

We need to work on a routine to greet the person on the phone? So we say hey at the same time..haha you could tell Butch was like...really!?
Tiger would probably have 25 majors if he stayed the course with Butch....
And avoided injuries

Not according to Gary P
Golf instruction used to be about simple to understand stuff unlike today whereoneneeds to be a orthopedic !
Ben Hogan wasn't tall but his swing was flat. Interesting perspective.

That host was so anal about how they said hello back LMAO
never really got to parallel? what swing was he watching?
Seems I can get more distance with a one piece takeaway how about anybody else especially with my driver
Say what you want about Peter Kessler but he was good at his job.
Too much sauce. He got all the secrets of the golf swing. People out here telling you to do the yee haw swing nowadays.
Why is he using 2 hands after playing since he was 5
Whatever happened to Peter the host
LOL

i always thought peter was a good host for the show. what became of him?

Kessler asked Arnie...What would Winnie think about you using a illegal club?...He was gone the next day.
Arnie was drunk on that occasion and got pissed that Peter got him to cry about her passing....crazy stuff.
He became 'The Perfect Club'
The golf channel was never the same after Arnold threw his childish fit and had Peter Kessler fired.
good ole full of shyt harmon
