I got an MBA in the pre-smartphone era (early 2000s) at NYU with a major in finance and statistics. If you enjoy statistics and are taking Python next, you may want to consider taking further studies in data science, which combines software, statistics and finance domain topics like valuation. I also enjoyed the classes with lots of guest lecturers much as entrepreneurship; however all the guests they invited were successful which is a poor representation of the field. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Interesting, so you recommend studying data science after getting a MBA? I am working as a data scientist with 3+ exp years, and I aspire to get executive roles in the future ( manager, director, VP of analytics, chief Data officer, etc.) And I'm not sure if a MBA will help me to reach those executive roles
Loved this video about the classes. When did anyone believe we use everything we learn at school haha? I am 3 years out of college and studied Economics and Business and got into the IT/SAP world in Oil and Aerospace and Defense. I like many others want to maximize my opportunities by getting an MBA. Hit 660 on the GMAT tho, but hoping my other experience speak more than just a test. I'd like to ask your opinion on getting an MBA this next cycle or the next after. when did you feel ready? Many say once you get leadership experience or promotion sets you apart but if your company is not as generous with promotions (very lean) would applying as an analyst with just 1 year at the current company be enough (still have 8 more months before starting in the fall 2024)?
Problem with MBA is 70% is useless for most and only 30% is needed whatever niche someone is going to use for their career. After few years you may only remember 10-20% max anyway. Only practical classes are finance or real estate or private equity etc.
majority of the ppl going to the program not to be an entrepreneur but to switch their career. What you're paying for is mostly the degree and the network, in my opinion, if it's a top 10 school
@@marco4568plus, most MBA students have working experience for at least 2 years. You shouldn't study for an MBA straight from a bachelor degree, but find the job first
I completely disagree. I have done an honours degree in civil engineering and remember most of it. And what I don't remember 100%, I know there's a method to solve it and can easily return to my notes. A lot of what I learned was more problem solving than specifics, like I never remember the formula for a circle's area or etc, but it's easy to obtain the info. I was very successful and won awards for my study and that's because I made all the units, even ones I weren't keen on, specific to me, i.e., I need to build a water filtration and pipe network for my city (I don't have one, but it helped me to imagine I did lol). I am now doing an MBA as I've been in my industry for 5+ years, and I want to start making more informed business choices and manage newer people in my field. You need to make everything fit your thinking because these units ain't cheap. Also, your teacher follows their formula and curriculum, ask questions, and try to understand why not just the facts. God bless.
Can you please a video of the grading scale, and how hard it is to get a good grade in the classes? i.e. an A or A+ vs a B+, B-? Is there a method to their distribution of the grades, etc? @rareliquid
Waooo...I am doing my MBA too at Temple University and our classes are very similar..For example, we use JUMP(JMP) also in Statistics and I really enjoyed my Statistics class..I learned a lot..
Question: Are MBA's worth the 2 years of opportunity cost? I'm currently in an MBB firm and I don't plan on leaving any time soon (apart from considering an MBA break). From a monetary sense, it seems like staying (and getting promoted) is the more financially attractive option. Any advise on this?
Check out University of Illinois’s Gies program. I’m in my first year and it’s great value and most definitely a disruptive innovator to the more traditional model
The university I went to requires students to submit a resume. If you don’t have experience and only degrees, you will be overqualified and be harder to get a job.
i love it from tarun please make more videos on wharton classes how many assignment per subjects also about class timing daily basis is it 2 semsemste in year or 3 semester in year also about capstone projects etc kinly provide detailed
10:10: speaking of CS friends, wondering what prompted you to go for the MBA and if you also considered doing MS in CS vs MBA (these 2 seem to be 2 very popular grad programs).
This is dependent on whether you do an online program, a local university, or do the program full-time. Look into universities near you or an online program if that works for you.
As an engineer with no business school training, the mba classes are very insightful. If you already did a BBA or a 2 year business diploma, probably not as useful.
I found the idea that you didn't get much from Marketing and Microeconomics to be...a little surprising? given I remember way back when when you used to translate videos into Korean and Chinese. I thought that was going to be an area you'd enjoy a lot. That being said, I absolutely agree that practice trumps theory. I'm coming from an education background, and while my criticisms for it isn't a one-size-fits-all, there's a lot of academic inflation where to get the same job our parents got (who might have spent 12 months max at uni) we now need a 4 year degree and a 2 year MA, when in fact all we really need is to get boots on the ground. And hey, that's what happened the newsletter!
Few other follow up thoughts: I think you should post the slides on you IG stories for us to see fully blown up? I kinda wanna see them lol Ah shit, if you were only gonna get 2 questions I would've tried to come up with one about which class have you gotten the best out of when applying it to RL. You gotta go back in time and get more pictures from your time at JP Morgan, college and AS. You're making a Simu Liu meme out of yourself 🤣
I got my MBA in Finance from Cal State Fullerton. I've found that for any class it depends on the instructor. They can make classes as easy or difficult as they'd like depending on the class's ability to learn the material and the department's standards (set grade distributions etc.). That said, if you are challenged in any area of academia, visit the instructor's office hours as often as possible and find a good classmate to study with. These two resources will help a lot in guiding you. Hope this helps, good luck! :)
Honorable university, I am a student living in a poor country in the corner of Africa, especially Somalia, I need a scholarship that I would like to apply for at Penn University. I took an important course on the Coursera website and I found a teacher that I liked very much and the style of teaching the student was very professional. How can I get that request somewhere to submit it?

The value of an MBA lies in the prestige of the institution you are buying to associate yourself with.
Shaping sharp to mould....synthesis.
Finance synthesis.

The only useful, practical MBA is if you major in Corporate Finance/Accounting.
And CS/STEM (moreso than the former)
@@stephenxadonai There are MBAs in CS/STEM?
@@RVC0902 yup, many others as well. Many schools Understand they need more niche
Not at all. People that go into Consulting or investment banking can start out making $200k a year

Most asked for work experience.. but it's not impossible to go straight to mba after your undergraduate study.. you should check the requirements
how much are you spending per year on MBAs? and do you receive any scholarships?
