The lesson kids: stay in milk, drink your school and don't do drugs
Dan Wright Drink in school?! Lol
Charlie T. No drink your school
Dan Wright more like stay in drugs, drink your school and don't do milk
Stay in Milk, drink your drugs, and don’t do school
Mikey Way is actually my hero. Somebody I genuinely look up to him. I read about his addiction a while ago and how he went into rehab. He overcame his addiction. He said it himself, he should have died. He was strong and made it through. To me he resembles strength. That's why I like him. Because of how strong he is. My dad did drugs (speed, weed, and some others) he ended up choosing them of me, over his own family.Tearing his family apart. It's really made my life difficult. My dad became abusive against my mother. And to see someone who has helped me so much (because of MCR and stuff) overcome what my own fucking father couldn't and still carry on with his family, it just makes Mikey so fucking awesome to me.He is just so strong in my eyes, somebody that will probably be someone i look up to for the rest of my life. And he plays bass, I like bass.
DragoWeedACorpse AMEN
Dude I'm so sorry
Gerard is inspiring because he overcame his addiction and depression by doing what he loved
I saw this video, and the part about Chester from Linkin Park, today and this is the day Chester died. so sad.
Honestly I was expecting Oli Sykes to be on this list but I agree with everyone else on this. Especially Mikey, no one ever talks about his addiction and talks about Gerard instead.
Alyssa Anderson same
I thought that oli would be on this list
Sorry for my ignorance, is Oli Sykes from bmth? And what addictions did he have?
@@a.h.9993 Oli got clean in 2011 or 2012 I think, he said that Sempiternal was inspired by his time in rehab (Hospital for Souls is a good example).
dear Chester... how much 7 months can change... At the beginning of 2017 nobody knew that this would be the year he'll take his life. one of my biggest pains ever.
You should do 7 musicians who got past terrible mental illnesses.
Oh. Okay.
I would request Chester.
Buuuut......
I'm so glad that you talked about Mikey
um thanks for the spoiler
DomozoveoGZ Why go into the comments if you don't want spoilers?
Nothing Really huh, good point.
I have a short attention span sometimes
DomozoveoGZ it's not exactly unexpected, he could've died but didn't (fortunately)
Please do more serious topics I loved this video
+Joe Swarbrick thank you!
Beyond ARTV when the velvet undergrounds debut gets its anniversary you should do a 7 on Sunday about the or review their debut album
I was expecting you to at least touch on Oli Sykes' addiction, however I'm really glad you talked about Mikey Way considering everyone always talks about Gerard's addiction and seems to forget about Mikey's struggle
I'm surprised you didn't include Eminem
Liam Carmody Yeah me too
Alcohol actually hung around for Chester. He almost got kicked out of LP between hybrid theory and meteora because of alcoholism, but working on "breaking the habit" really woke him up, and you know why if you know what breaking the habit is about.
My heart for Mikey now he's gonna have a family awe my heart feels so warm ❤️💙
MapleSyrup øn Phan & bands same :')
I find Chester Bennington's life story so tragic yet inspiring. Between sexual abuse, family issues, and the addiction that came from that, the fact that he got out of it and is so much better is so amazing.
:(
1:18 still with us today.......
Let that sink in.

It’s rough to watch when he gets to Chester, even though his death wasn’t because of drugs it’s still tough to watch
I thought about Oli Sykes, who pretty openly talks about this, or Brian Molko, who writes beautiful songs about addictions. The whole 'Meds' album by Placebo was about it. I recommend. But the video was great.
That Chester Bennington part got sad
And now I just got reminded of Nikki Sixx. Horrible heroin problem in the 80s and now he's clean and looking great. Makes me proud of him.
so proud of the Way brothers 💚💚 and Mikeys gonna have a kid!!
Trash Can YES
I feel like a terrible mcr fan bc I didn't know Mikey had an addiction.
MCRkilljoy For life don't worry that's totally okay!
same I know that Gerard used to be addicted to drugs not mikey tho
Castiel Novak Didn't Mikey lose his wife because of drugs? And she posted something like 'When your husband leaves you and your kid for drugs #laughable'
When he talked about Chester, I cried
Hey dude your videos are seriously the best ! Thanks for all the work you put behind, nowadays it's pretty hard to find constructive and on point youtubers.. you're one of a kind! Loved the vid x
+Lea S thank you so much :)
I must admit that I'm a little unforgiving when it comes to addictions. I mean, I was taught from a very young age that drugs are bad for you, etc, etc, and apparently I was the only oe who actually listened. We all hate it when an iconic artist dies and, when that happens due to drugs, I can't help but blame them for not getting help, as well as the people around them for not realising what was happening to their loved one and not doing anything.
That said, I understand there's a lot of factors contributing to drug addiction: peer pressure, emotional problems, the stress of touring and promoting music. Genetics are also a big factor - bigger than what many would think. I never used drugs in my life and I'm a very light drinker so there's a lot I don't know about addiction. Anyway, I'm so very grateful that some of my favorite musicians - Billie Joe Armstrong, Chester Bennington, Deryck Whibley - were able to survive their addiction and continue making music. Because, really, the whole "live fast, die young" is bullshit. I want my favorite artists to keep making music and playing live for as long as possible.
Some people also start doing drugs after a traumatic event. It is the only way they know how to cope. I also know that people with drug addictions can be very good at hiding it. I have a friend who was addicted to cocaine for a few years and I never had any idea. Addicts, I guess just know how to hide it.
I'm so happy for Mikey honestly
That chester part was so sad now :(
This is such an important video considering how prevalent it is in the music scene. I'm proud of every one of these musicians for getting help and getting clean. A former addict I'm particularly proud of is Josh Ramsay from Marianas Trench. He had a pretty heavy heroin addiction as well as bulimic which is what a lot of the first album, Fix Me, was written about. The song Lover Dearest is a song he wrote back in rehab
Rip chester
Speaking of Stone Temple Pilots, I wish Scott Weiland could've gotten clean.
Kyle Hegedus Me too :/ I loved stone temple pilots and Velvet Revolver. RIP Scott.
Kyle Hegedu
Thank you for talking about Mikey's addiction. Of course Gerard's addiction impacted everyone but everyone forgets about Mikey. I'm very proud of both of them, Gerard having a family and Mikey getting married and a baby on the way
Eric Clapton, man. Besides the incredible story as to how that man is still alive, 'cocaine' is a dope song.
Miles Davis's dad locked him up for a week in a shed in the early 1950s till he finally came out able to stand up and clean from his heroin addiction. His bio Miles by Quincy Troupe details it very graphically.
I was surprised about Chester Beniignton
and now Chester Bennington is gone too. 💔
7 musicians who died from a drug overdose
This is really great to watch! It's a serious topic, but the video was clearly made with respect. And it offers hope ♡ (p.s. thank you for mentioning Mikey Way, I was aware of his problems with addiction and he's one of my heroes)
This is really important! Great video, Jon!
wow this video is very eye opening and really shines a light on how serious and destructive drug addictions are, I hope to see another one of these types of videos soon
Jon! I have to say, this video really showed me some new facts I never knew, and I liked it a lot. I'm glad you picked a topic that is rough, but yet had some kind of light at the end of it all. Good job conveying the information and keeping it interesting. I love your videos and love what you do. Keep it up, and keep making people like me and the rest of your fans smile :)
+The One and Only Darin Darts awesome to hear, thank you 😀
I like this type of video and definitely look forward to anymore you do :)
not a lot of people seem to know that taylor hawkins from foo fighters was struggling with drug addiction right around the time he had joined the band.
It's a shame though that once most of these musicians kicked their addictions the music wasn't as good
Lucas Crossett weird but true
Cheers for this dude, your research is impressive man. 👍
Thanks!
Great video! It's so interesting to see how drugs affected people in the music scene.
Thank you for acknowledging that mikeys addiction was worse than Gerard's. I hate that mikey doesn't get the recognition he deserves for kicking his terrible addiction and I'm so proud of him for it! He's the guy that inspired me to start playing bass in the first place (even though I'm not that good) I wish he didn't have such a shitty point in his life especially around danger days from the interviews I read that was when he was at his worst. I wish that he could perform for ec but I've also read he doesn't want to risk going on tour and the possibility of relapse which it's so sad he doesn't have the confidence but I understand. I hope in a few years time maybe longer if it's necessary mikey can finally tour sober for ec
I really liked this video! please do more of these :)
It's scientifically and physiologically impossible to become addicted to acid. Literally - tolerance builds up straight after consumption. Acid isn't the kind of drug you can get addicted to...although the escapism that comes with it is something a person may feel they become reliant on? Which I suppose is a separate problem entirely (being a drug user is different from being an 'addict'). Great video though - it's great that these incredibly talented artists have managed to become clean.
Ben Burnley from Breaking Benjamin had an alcohol addiction during the first three albums. Dear Agony was the first album he wrote while being sober. He' states that still very sick but he's still kicking it.
Bowie's liver cancer was induced from his excessive alcohol and drug consumption, though. Also, Heroin was also amongst his pretty widespread narcotic repertoire, if you will say so. I mean, he rocked the heroin unibrow while living in Berlin from 1977-79. Ironically, he moved there because he wanted to get rid of his cocaine addiction, only to get into heroin. He called Berlin "the world's heroin capital".
this is a very interesting topic, this has always been one of my favorite videos from you. you should do more videos like these! chester’s story has always given me the chills, i don’t even know how to explain it, it’s just like... i’m sorry i’m tired. 😂 not as bad of one, but when i was first getting into fall out boy when i was around 10-11 it always kept me up thinking about how pete wentz would be so fucked up on (was it adderall?) that he would play russian roulette with a gun and not even blink an eye at the fact that he could die, or his whole suicide attempt on ativan in 2004.
my old comments are awful uh ignore me. bert mccracken had it pretty bad too. (also it was ambien wtf old ava)
Good list, I think Brian Head Welch’s (Korn guitarist) meth addiction would have also been worth talking about. That is such an incredible story if you haven’t heard it before, and very touching whether you’re religious or not.
Got that right !!!! I’ve done meth , I’ve actually done just about everything out there, but meth /speed is just as addictive, if not more addictive than alcohol. Creates extreme confidence , makes you feel great !!!!! It’s all an illusion tho , because before you know it . Your back in the real world . I still struggle to this day with my addiction problems.
I know that there are natural highs tho , I am more mature and more wise now to not stick with drugs for Euphoria and Confidence!!! I choose to go more with natural highs that we all can achieve out of life !!!! I love the group Korn tho and am verrrrry proud of Brian Head . All the members have cleaned up there act!!! Having an addiction to drugs is like making this earth more of a hell to live in , then what it already is !!!
Loved hearing Turnover during the transitions!
Dude this was so interesting please do a part 2!
I actuaclly never knew that a part of MCR had addictions. This is a pretty informative video
I like how you used Turnover's, Hello Euphoria when introducing the artists!
thanks ;)
Aw Chester died that year 😢
Love the video! but there is none of the sources in the describtion
definitely do more videos like this
You should look into Zac Carper (from FIDLAR)'s story on the consequence of sound website. He would have definitely made it on my list. I really look up to him now because of his story.
Frank Turner has mentioned an addiction in his past, could be cocaine as it alludes to in a few songs.
great video
The Trent Reznor one really surprised me. thanks for that info.
There is a drug addiction program for musicians called MusiCares.
I feel like Nikki Sixx should have been on this list but that's fine. It was nice that you mentioned Mikey because that's definitely always overlooked.
Frank Beach have you ever read Nikki Sixxs book ? The Heroin Diaries was so amazing and moving as well as the album his band Sixx Am did as a soundtrack to the book. It's amazing!
Stephii Zombie Queen Loveless
Yes and I loved it. I think that book absolutely helped me in many ways and I love Nikki more than anyone probably knows now. I used to worship the ground the man puked upon honestly. Sixx:AM is one of my favorite bands.
I mean to be real it's kinda hard to find any musician now a days who hasn't struggled with a drug issue.
Just curious, why do you always spoil half of your list in the thumbnail?
turkeysandwich3 who cares? A better question is why are there so many dumb ass commercials
Really not a Linkin Park fan by any means but it’s terrible what happened to Chester. On another note i think Ollie Sykes could be on this list
Hey John, the topic of this video just made me think of Anthony Green from Circa Survive who kicked a heroin addiction. I don't know if you have ever heard them but PLEASE check them out. Anthony has such a unique voice. If you do check them out, I recommend listening to Act Appalled and Get Out. Those are my two favourite tracks by them.
Hurt is about a friend of Trents who overdosed and passed away on heroin. I love that song so much.
I love how macklemore raps about how prescription drugs are "bad" and he uses them during his free time😅
RIP Chester.
I figured Billie Joe would be on here
Brett Wodon ONE F*CKING MINUTE
After he mentioned that David Bowie would come into play later on in the video, I knew it would be about Trent Reznor.
Great video, and you did pronounce Hillel's name right :)
Surprised Eminem wasn't in here
Deryck Whibley (Sum 41) story is inspiring.
Also another interesting story about breaking the habit is PHIL Jamison from Grinspoon (Aust Alt rock band) who realised he had an issue when he was found out for stealing money from his own band members to feed his meth addiction.
I think Nikki Sixx should be on here. I’m glad you’ve included Mikey tho
Happy 2017 guys
Didn't both Adam Gontièr and Gerard Way have pill addictions? I know Adam was put into rehab, which is when he wrote most songs on the amazing One X album, but I don't know too much about Gersrd Way
Yes Gerard did. I think it was mentioned on the DVD for Life on the Murder Scene...I think it was also in a book on them (which the book looks like a book fair special kind of construction of paperback). I think you can search up the ripped video from that DVD on here.
I'm really glad you added Albert Hammond Jr. on here
I was expecting at least Kurt Cobain or Matty Healy but you really went for a different approach! Great video!!!
what about Eminem he had a serious prescription drug addiction and overdosed and almost died. but other than that good list and video.
wow. i was looking for insight of how stars realized but also overcame Cocaine addiction and i found out a lot more viable content for a major decision that i think i need to make/face soon. probably now but ....ty for this
I used to live next to Reznor's sister. He and my dad used to go out and drink sometimes.
Bert McCracken had it pretty bad
True. I'll probably do another video at some point.
This is awesome, thank you
MCRB182FOBGDBMTH Bert is my hero! The Used saved my life so many times when.i was a kid and I'm still a huge fan today. I love the Used 💓
Bert McCracken is fucking amazing
yeah i got into the used recently, i didn’t realize how bad his was
I really like this video,
The title is sort of watch mojoy but ill watch it anyways
How sacrificial of you.
8-BitReviews The capital letters make it seem a lot more human than watch mojo.
Corey Taylor did died from a drug overdose but because he wasnt brain dead and left in a garbage bin he "came back to life"
Happy bday g way
Corey Taylor has a great story about his drugadiction! you should check it out! Love your videos
Gerard way and Mikey way better be on here!
John you should review Fall Out Boy's Take This to Your Grave
+Joseph Lyle weird I was just listening to that and thinking about doing it yesterday
Beyond ARTV oh man that would be great if you would. I love early FOB
this was before Chester died....
Really liked this video, although I would have personally includedJohn Frusciante on this list, when you look into the initial period where he left the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in the 90's. Very good video, other than that.
you should also include billie joe and randy blythe
AmIl Agarwal billie's addiction wasn't nearly as terrible as some of them.
I agree about Chester Bennington by the way good topic on artists taken drugs
What an interesting topic that no one talks about
brent smith?? he had an alcohol addiction and battled an addiction with cocaine and oxycontin for the first two records that Shinedown released.
I know you might not like them but the band Crazy Town completely broke apart due to insane drug addictions and 2 deaths due to drug related illnesses.
When Bowie moved to Berlin, he also got addicted to heroin.
surprised Pete Doherty's not on the list
Wow, I'm surprised Nikki Sixx wasn't on this list. The dude was legally dead and now he's clean. He's written books and albums on it. Kind of surprised, man.
