As much like Junaid's forgotten career he's many a times in the spells of Amir and Hasan Ali is forgotten as the 3rd pacer of the Champions Trophy 2017 squad and the one who took important middle over wickets including those of Butler and Moin in the Semis. Brillaint episode as always.
When I think junaid khan I always think sangakara being beaten on a dead wicket. It’s nice to think others have that context that junaid wasn’t a one hit wonder. We have so many ex players coming out with rants about being mistreated. Some of them may be justified. But I always loved that junaid khan didn’t seem bitter never complained just carried on. All class.
One more Epic podcast! I was waiting for this one indeed. Ghalib applied, Misbah era defined aptly as well... but simply to put all of it in a nutshell, " BECHARA amazing Junaid. "
I think the moment that really captures the clinicalness and hauntings of junaid khan is when he takes the wicket of Jos Butler in CT 2017. He gets him out right after the drinks break edging behind the wicket with a seeminly non-chalant delivery, and then follows it up with getting Ali out with a mean bouncer. His contributions in that match go largely unnoticed but getting Butler and Moeen Ali, two of arguably most destructive late phase batters, in a ICC tournament semi final where the key bowler sits out because of an injury, was perhaps his final gift to Pakistan Cricket.
if we look back to the Champions Trophy 2017, Junaid was highly underrated in that too, had more wickets than Amir but remained completely under the shadow of those 3 wickets of Amir
Thank you so much for doing this episode on demand, guys. Loved it. You assessment of Misbah era cricket is hilarious but so apt 😂 Please do an episode on Razzaq’s famous spell against Sri Lanka in the famous tied ODI in Sharjah (1999). The spell is archetype of “haal” of Pakistani fast bowling.
Junaid Khan had such an unmemorable career… only now after listening to this podcast do you actually appreciate him..bechaara. Deserved a better career and a better cricket board!! I feel we have more tragedies with our fast bowlers rather than successes. Mohammed Zahid, Mohammed Amir, Mohammed Asif, Hassan Ali. This is a failure of the Pakistan Cricket Board but players need to accept responsibility as well. Fast bowlers from Australia and England have much better and longer careers because of better care from their board and also them looking after themselves. Having said all that he bowled really well in the Champions trophy 2017. I remember he was brought is after the hammering to India.
Guys if one thought you couldnt come up with a better episode - well you have and for the most underrated guy ever what a tribute to Junaid Khan. A suggestion while this is restricted to Pakistani fast bowling you have to open it up to the love of fast bowling and include world bowlers as well. You’re on to something big here! And Urdu poetry applied to fast bowling is just excellent.
Galib sahhie time per gozaar gaay. Werna in londoon nay koee kasar na chorie thee.. Epic though man that was epic. Junaid's career was tragic. But he was lucky in a way. He wasn't grinded into bowling off cutters in the opening spell.
finally someone brought to light on how misbah destroyed the very fabric of pak cricket, junaid too was let down as he was the first man dropped for any new fast bowler
Waking up to watch the match and I was under the impression will just get wrecked and then comes Junaid and Ramiz Raja going absolutly going crazy on comms. Wowooww was the word salad ramiz used.
Bhaijan... ham jaise juhla-e-cricket/kund zehen/mausami shayaqeen k liye in tamam wickets k link de dia karain...ham bhi dekhna chahte hain laxman ki boklahat, arun laal ki phati hui g waghera waghera
How can you not mention Shaheen bowling KL Rahul in that 152-0 match. Also Haris going through Gill in probably the last good thing in the fateful Asia Cup
@@BattaFastI have seen it. I am just saying you both discussed most memorable bowled dismissals. I would add Shoaib getting Dravid and Sachin back to back in Eden Gardens deserved the mention in that list. And probably Wahab castling Yuvi in Mohali. I can relive and replay those in my head even today.
I think what you guys kinda fail to understand is that Modi didn't bring out the jingoistic era. He is kinda a product of the jingoistic era. After Mumbai attacks, people suddenly become much more aware of the kind of threats India faced from Pakistan and due to that it wasn't a good look to be playing with Pakistan, for a lot of people, especially in South India which is historically not as connected to Pakistan as West and Northwest India, it became an issue of funding terrorism. It's sad, but that's the reality. Congress winning would not have changed much. In fact, to counter the narrative that Congress favors muslims over majority Hindus, it was quite possible that they go extra hard on easy target that was Pakistan. Sadly few terror attacks after Modi came to power forced his hands too, he was selected over congress because he wasn't seen as someone catering to some minority and taking majority for granted. Also, there is another important factor, older Indian army leadership was retiring, and Joginder Jaswant Singh was the last COAS who was not born in independent India. So that bond to the land that is Pakistan was finally broken too. That's why that 2008 attack hurt so much psychologically, because for the first time since the 80s, serious upper brass of Indian National security was considering a final fight with Pakistan and occupation of the land. Few sober heads which realized the herculean task it was and understood that Indian defense forces were not at all prepared for it, things died down in that direction but everyone from that point onwards was kinda in sync about the kind of relationship with Pakistan. That's why when Modi flew to Pakistan directly, "unannounced", many took it to mean that our leadership is turning against us again. Subsequent attacks were a big egg on his face.
thank you for your considered reply. There's a lot in here I am not qualified to comment on, but it has always struck me as very strange that there is a reluctance to play cricket because of terrorism, but not to suspend the economic ties between the two countries. Given that those ties are worth a lot of money, it does make the claim of boycotting cricket over principles sound hollow.
@BattaFast ... If I remember, there were terror attacks in 2008 before and after Mumbai .... Manmohan thought he could change political economy of pakistan -- he couldn't!! Sad!!. Pakistan isi could carry out terror attacks at will!! Mumbai and Kargil were events that got a lot of international press!! Mind you... terror attacks did not stop until Modi and Doval. You can talk about hindutava.. et al.. but india is becoming a national security state. Problem that I see is -- pakistan cannot and should not become a subset of its india's china strategic calculus !! Problem between the two nations has never been people to people!!
Ghalib applied to a ball by Junaid Khan to Kohli is the end-all-be-all of all cricket podcasts. *slow clap*
This pod continues to be our favourite!
daman-e-khayal-e-yaar as an outswinger is never leaving my head

This deserves millions of views due to Ghalib's shayari being used on Junaid's bowling.
Absolute. Fucking. Perfection.
One more Epic podcast! I was waiting for this one indeed. Ghalib applied, Misbah era defined aptly as well... but simply to put all of it in a nutshell, " BECHARA amazing Junaid. "
That Ghalib couplet ki tashreeh and application to the delivery 🫠 bravo! 👏🏽

What a brilliant podcast!! Ghalib k saath ka parallel. Ufff.
if we look back to the Champions Trophy 2017, Junaid was highly underrated in that too, had more wickets than Amir but remained completely under the shadow of those 3 wickets of Amir
He was the joint second highest wicket taker in that champions trophy.

Love the podcast. Please do an episode on Wahab Riaz’s spell against Australia in 2015, quarterfinal
I wish Junaid sees this man. The stats about his test matches is unbelievable.
That Ghalib's verse sat so fit
Waking up to watch the match and I was under the impression will just get wrecked and then comes Junaid and Ramiz Raja going absolutly going crazy on comms. Wowooww was the word salad ramiz used.

Batta Fast is inspired by Shoaib Akhtar
