I went to the airshow in '99 when I was 7. The spitfire was and is my favourite aircraft - if ever a machine had a soul, the spirit of defiance sitll lives on in these fine planes.
We may be in dire straits at the moment as a country, but its things like this which remind you of the pride and love we have for Great Britain. We've fought off attackers from all parts of the world, united through times of crisis, achieved huge feats of engineering, gained one of the largest empires in the world, the list goes on... We were great, we are great, and may we continue to be great for many years to come.
Can't watch this - it's too special and emotional... Everything this country stood for captured in less than five minutes. In another world from anything else on UA-cam. Thanks you.
What a sound, what a sound the Rolls Royce Merlin, one of the finest aero engines ever built! So good the Americans built it under licence to power the Mustang. Two of the greatest fighter planes in history.
I have to get to an airshow in the UK where I can see and hear this plane fly past, just so I can get in touch with that era, what a remarkable defence that was put up against the Nazis by pilots from so many nationalities, and that amazing ground to air system the British had the foresight to put in place, remarkable innovation.
My grandad flew Spits My dad was on Vulcans I was a civilian pilot but ended up contracted to RAAF SAR for awhile The Spitty was the greatest piston aircraft ever to grace the skies The Vulcan was the most majestic jet Not suprising but my favourite movie of all time is BOB

To our brave young men who fought and died for our liberty we the British people will never forget your sacrifice.......my late father was a 17 Yr old in the merchant navy my mother played her role in the land army ,they would turn in there graves to see what our country has become the hatred for our culture our heritage and Christian country insults all there memories....RIP

One of these did a very low flyover once on a royal visit. I was fortunate to be right at the front next to the royal party as it went over. My goodness it was the most beautiful and staggering noise i have ever heard. Videos and soundclips dont to the engine noise any justice. Anyway, good video.

Simply put, the P-51 was a world beater. It could fight its way all the way to Berlin and back. It's no coincidence that USAAF bomber losses drop dramatically after P-51's come into service. It did a job that no other fighter could do, not even the Spitfire. In doing the job they did USAAF fighters, mainly P-51s, succeeded in virtually destroying the Luftwaffe as a fighting force.

The Spitfire was a point defence fighter and never intended for long range operations hence its limited range. It was later modified to extend its range but that came at a weight penalty. However the Spitfire was a more agile aircraft than the P-51 and thus a superior dogfighter .
Inspiring video, in high school I had a friend whose father was a Hawker Hurricane pilot during the Battle of Britain who downed 2 German aircraft, a Me-110 and a BF-109.
Bf stands for Bayerische Flugzeugwerke it still said Bf even after Meserschmitt bought that company. Later it was changed to Messerschmitt Flugzeugwerke
British pilots in World War II were great. However there were a few Germanaces that had over 100 victories on the Western front. The best known was Hans Joachim Marseille who had over 250 victories.
