Or like opening up a phone book randomly and pointing in it and saying; "THIS one". Plus the "category" is a joke. Why not "Best Metal Album", why? Because these idiots don't believe Metal bands create "Albums" as a whole, they want Hit Singles. Believe me, I used to be "hopeful" that the grammys would get their shit together, but after talking with 3 members of the organization, the rest of the members care more about popularity (time constraints, music that's easy on the ears etc.) than actual music or any respect for Metal (or Progressive Rock). Just look at the audience, most went to get a smoke or take a breather from the over-hyped conveyor belt of crap people consider music. Awards don't keep Metal alive, its the"people" from all over the world that keep it going. There are TONS upon tons of Metal bands, and "1" band is going to represent the "best performance"?

Though I never said Metal "isn't" popular, but the best of it wont be found on the radio, more likely a podcast or internet radio station that caters to classic and new music. Though I have a few bones to pick about Banger's knowledge on the origins of Prog Metal, they do help metal (and subgenres) stay alive (for those that haven't checked them out: ua-cam.com/users/BangerFilmsInc ). Again, for the past maybe 25+ years, Metal no longer needs to thrive on popularity among the mainstream, as the genre thrives on its fans. I'm more into the underground and obscure bands myself, but even bands like Opeth and Meshuggah are considered "mainstream" these days (which is still weird to me), while others who have been around even longer are not well known. And then you have the bands that are still fighting on that started in the 70's. I've been a Metalhead since 1981, and I write about its rich history (especially Prog Metal) for fun and still, I'm a bit behind on many bands from the past 2 years or so. That's why, as I mentioned before, its almost ridiculous to have "1" band represent the whole of Metal, because it has soo many subgenres and bands (just go to my channel, and pick a "themed" playlist and find almost all subgenres of Metal, Rock and Progressive Rock). But Metal will always survive, even if the record industry is messed up, and long after those "flavors of the weak" that are championed by the grammy's are dead and gone. Metal (and Prog) will always challenge the listener, think outside of the box and break rules to keep it all going, and it has "longevity". Some metalheads are stuck in the 80's or 90's, but the music keeps pushing forward to find new fans, even someone like me at 55 \m/.

DEthe5150 some of the rap and pop on the grammies is good but the best of those genres is not in there. At least Janelle Monae’s performance was amazing, and the song she played wirtten by her with help from Prince and sounds like a homage to him (also St Vincent who is amazing)

I just watched his rig rundown video and the interview mentioned a grammy and i nearly shit a brick. so glad matt and the rest getting some recognition they deserve. Also if you haven't seen such hawks such hounds sleep/hof and matt are in it a lot i recommend, it's from 2008 so shows his attitude before this
