Original Video: • The Mystery of The Son...
This belongs in a Museum.
Maybe, but it's alot more interesting where it's at.
@@Lightblue2222 yes bit it won't be there much longer if its not saved soon.... it needs a proper home to protect it from the elements.
I fully agree dr Jones
At least on Sega's headquarters, they already have Sonic statues there.
I went into my Google maps to see this and I like how it's labeled as a museum
This statue is like a metaphor for the sonic series. It's in need of repair, and only fans are willing to do that work.
Holy SHIT you are so right
Damn it, now I'm depressed.
Damn, that hit hard
Yooooooooo
Kessler4O dayummmm
If that statue does collapse under its own weight, as stated, it'd be a depressing allegory for Sonic's career. Just saying.
Wow, that made me laugh, then cry, then get depressed all in the span of a couple seconds.
hell it kinda is an allegory for his career, pretty bad but not past the point of no return
@Manek Iridius the series gets money but the games quality are not the highest, mostly the fan base keeping it around since erybody loves the characters n stuff so i'd say it still works
Manek Iridius I would argue it’s accurate. Sonic games aren’t what they used to be and have been going downhill. Plus his third party now, Sonic won’t be shit in the future

I really really really REALLY want to restore this statue to its best state and solve this intense mystery, but I just can't do anything. But please, please PLEASE can somebody do something! Anything! As one of the few remaining Sonic fans in the UK, I really care so much for this statue. Since I saw your first video on this 2 weeks ago, this has meant the world to me and I would do anything to save Sonic. No lie, I'd spend months on it perfecting it and restoring it, then return it to the mountains. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SAVE SONIC ! :,(
Any plans to do videos on the other abandoned Sonic statues? Apparently there's a 25th anniversary statue in Cyprus where the nose also broke off, there's a Sonic and Sally statue in Australia in some junkyard, and one in Madrid under a set of stairs.
@@acer456_ty I'm not sure...but at that point it would seem it's no longer owned by anyone. EZ trash pick
Vexcenot Congratulations no one cares
It feels like we need Japanese Sonic fans to do some research on their end (or have some of us Western fans who can speak Japanese) to get out there and figure out who exactly owns the statue and do some negotiating.
It would have been good if Iizuka was asked about this at the SXSW panel. I'm wonder if Western SEGA officials are able to get in contact with the Japanese side in regards to all of this?
Instead we got fucking batman questions instead of anything useful.
In the most recent Sonic Offical Stream, Aaron brought it up and said that they were going to contact SEGA of Japan to see if they could get them to do something
Hello! I am a fan of Sonic, who lives in Miyagi prefecture. I love Sonic for over 20 years. Thank you for coming to Japan from a distant place. I was moved by your behavior and your love for Sonic. Knowing the current status of Sonic's Statue, I am glad to be a Japanese fan! Also, please come to Japan!
Believe me, I really want to visit Japan one day!
Triggered Potato’s Nice to meet you! I am Japanese, so I speak in Japanese!
Triggered Potato’s My favorite movie is Sister Act (1992)
Triggered Potato’s Japanese text is fine ;) ぜひ日本に遊びに来てください!
So like... start a group or something please. This statue must be saved
Didn't you mentioned in the previous video that some locals said some farmer or company bought the statue and gifted it to the people of the nearby city? If so, doesn't this means that you can ask to the mayor of that city for permission?
That's why I say in this one that if someone is in the area they should ask the local authority about it, like the local council or another governing body.
There's a lot of stuff in the way to be honest. You'd need someone who can speak english, and japanese, and is able to deal with japanese bureaucracy. Then you have to hope that the city cares enough to give you the permission even though barely anyone knows about the statue. Then there's the logistics of moving a large, fragile statue to somewhere where it can be repaired.
It would require an organised effort and a lot more attention, so it seems pretty bleak to be honest. Someone should get a crowdfunder campaign going.
@@The_McRib weirder things have happened
@JumpMan just weirder things
Well the mayor doesn’t own the statue the locals/farmers do so the mayor would have to ask them as well
Aaron Webber just mentioned in an official livestream that he's going to ask around at Sega of Japan and see if he can find the owner. Maybe he can manage to organize something.
I SAY ROAD TRIP! IT CAN BE A COMMUNITY JOB! We could sing sonic songs on the way there and have all sorts of fun.

MicMaine Hmm, interesting. What gave you the impression that it was because you’re black? It’s possible that after the first video he got lots of messages from people who want to help out and so he had to be extremely selective with who he gave information to.
MicMaine It looks like Shea has acknowledged it now though, which is good!
Maybe the town's mayor or city hall has some record of when it was brought over? Like, 'so and so owns it, here's the permit to place it in the mountains', etc, just buried away in a file somewhere. That's where I'd start.

The question is....
Is the owner dead or alive
That is a serious question, if the owner is deceased - who owns it?
It would be either passed on or sold to someone else

@@Wingcrawler or maybe the person who owned it forgot about and maybe even died.

@@aortaplatinum Woah there Hitler the hedgehog. There hasn't been a Sonic game that takes place alongside humans since SA2, not to mention that Heroes and every game after Heroes have drastically different gameplay, level design, and story. Also, can we get a source on that interview?
@@sylphofspace2258 well shit. Guess it's just been the years of people begging for this game that, knowing modern SonicTeam, would probably suck shit, and the constant pushback of other people saying that it won't happen, and through that, the concept of Heroes initially being titled Adventure 3 during development was etched in my mind as a fact instead of speculation. If you define a Sonic Adventure game as a 3D platformer centered around speed, where multiple characters go through their own stories and then all come together for the finale, and it all takes place in a world populated by humans... I hate to say it, but your definition of Sonic Adventure 3 was released in 2006.
We can only hope this statue can be fixed and saved from the outdoors so this landmark can be shown for many years to come!

Was just watching the Sonic Official Podcast Season 3 Episode 1. They paid attention to the chat, and people were talking about the Sonic Statue. “You might end up on some obscure UA-cam video...” lol. Great video I hit the like button
Who would have thought that some random statue salvaged from a defunct attraction and mounted to a random tree in the mountains would not only gain so much international attention but also be so heartbreakingly interesting?
I would say a select group of artist and fans could go out and restore the piece. But you're correct when you mentioned that it needs to be removed in order to be completely restored, looks like it's pretty close to collapsing tbh! Hard to say what could be done unless the owner is contacted and agrees to have it removed and repaired. I'm wishing the best for this sonic, I hope I'm able to see it in person restored someday soon!
I wonder how sega feels about sonic being a pokestop in pokemon's game?
I know the rivalry between then is dead but, makes you wonder.
Another question is; could they use it for a legendary pokemon spot like for shaymin or possibly a place where Hedgehog pokemon are more likely? Like Cyndaquil?
The hedgehog thing is good the legend bit isn’t it would mean those who want it for different reasons would have to travel to it which Depending on where they are may cost a lot for them assuming they play legit
Why do i feel like tails and knuckles were there at one point?
We all want to restore this beautiful sculpture someone created back in the days when Sega made an arcade place. Sega had a collaboration with a theme park for Sonic Pinball and had his own boat ride that they rebuilt off a boat ride that was childhood dream to people in the time they went and then pasted it on to their children. Now people found this statue left alone and abandon but now they left it to rust and destroyed. WE MUST SAVE THIS SONIC STATUE!
We as a community need to save this. Who is with me?
now this is the real sonic movie
I´m calling it...if one removes the sonic statue, the forest youkais are set free, he´s a spirit guardian.
OMFG
Someone needs to put a fresh new sonic and knuckles sticker on that snowboard
Yep, that oughtta fix it.
We got them to notice guys! Round of applause to everyone who helped
I'm gonna be sharing this with SEGA and the Sonic Social team ASAP. I encourage you all to join me.
Amazing video, i was really excited when a sequel was announced!
I really hope someone will save this sonic statue, save our segasonic boy!
The snowboard also has the words SEGASONIC in a similar font to the sonic film.
I don't know why but that Sonic statue actually scares me. Like that thing is huge. If I was riding my bike and I saw that statue, I'd probably scream.
Joker vs sonic question by guy from fairy tale was the best question
Gee I hope they restore it :-(
Sega could probably do something about taking it back, since they do own the rights to Sonic
Yeah but they sold it so they need to buy it back to gain ownership of the statue
Damn is it still there?
I know it needs permission to be restored, but it should be restored
This is a piece of history, if it is restored it should be put at some kind game museum or sega themselves should keep it
That's what I'm saying or put it back. But makes sure it can withstand the weather longer. I like the idea of driving by and seeing sonic on a snowy day and it looks like hes snowboarding. Or yeah have Sega set it somewhere. This shouldnt be something someone kept to themselves

Hi the first part of this is how I joined the sonic community thank you

Sonic will literally become roadkill if we don't save the statue.
Honestly, the best way I see for 'saving' this statue is getting 3D scans of the statue done so that it can be literally 'saved' on a hard drive and then recreated later through fabrication means.

*just steal it and **_then_** the owner will show up or the police will find the owner lol*
"It's better to ask forgiveness than permission"? While that's a funny idea, I'm not sure that would work without serious legal repercussions.
I mean restoration isn’t the only option at this point. Recreation is also a feasible option. I mean the measurements can be estimated, you are literally in contact with someone who can 3D print and you could always crowdfund it. Make it set to last and let a dedicated museum have it and the picture of the old statue. This raises awareness of the statue even more by getting people who usually won’t be on UA-cam. If the original statue can’t be saved, it’s legacy can still live on.

Just so you know, Pokestops are crowd-sourced through Niantic's other game, Ingress; the two games share the location database. That means that an Ingress player went up there and submitted it. Ingress is quite popular in Japan (even got an anime recently), so I'm not surprised that this happened.
