Also a tattooist question here, what size needles do you use, this is pretty important? 8, 10 , 12? Long taper, short taper, tight or loose?

It sucks that they didn’t answer such an important question. I am also a tattoo artist and they need to explain the difference between needle. That is why I think that your question is super important.

Body art tattoo and SMP completely different in every way, from the equipment used, pigment inks, needles, pre/post-after care, even down to the licensing, certification, courses and training. They can answer your question, but even the terminology would be different.
I'm no tattoo artist or SMP artist myself, but it's common sense - you as a tattoo artist would be dealing with art of multiple colors, shapes, sizes, skin depths, shading, coloring, scratching, lines, blending, contrasting, pulling/pushing against the skin or whatever it is you do.....while an SMP artist is dotting I would imagine only a shallow layer of pigment exclusively in the scalp area to naturally and closely replicate human hair follicle.
I'm pretty sure you can't find SMP needles at your tattoo supply dealer shop even if your question was technically answered.
This is not just some skill you can immediately start tomorrow and do on any client even with years of experience using 8, 10, 12, long taper, short taper, tight taper, loose taper needles. , so stop trying to be an inquiring mind to think you need to know the correct needle size........there's already plenty of botched jobs floating around of ink helmets and swim caps because people thought to go the cheap route and get SMP done by tattoo artists. Do you see SMP artists doing tattoos? Pretty sure you don't.
If it's that important you want to know every needle size, go to SMP school, stop taking shortcuts. And if you even watched the video, they clearly illustrated a 3RL needle and a 1RL, and even so, I bet you still have no clue what in the heck they're talking about. Smh.
I looked into this for a long time. 8 years and watched many video's (mostly customer testimonials) and I never even thought or realized this process might be done using more than 1 needle.
Yes there are many ways to replicate the true size of a hair follicle with ink impressions.
Tattoo cartridge manufacturers have made many varieties in recent years to offer more ways to do it. Still, nothing more real than impressions made from single needles :)

Nicole and Joe, once again killer info! As you know I'm a massive single needle advocate and almost exclusively. I do think that a small 0603rl or 0403rl have their merits in certain situations. I have found myself in some cases where the 1rl just won't stick and need a beefier needle to get it done especially in the crown. I definitely agree that a single needle impressions represent a hair follicle under the skin long term. Thoughts on situations when you would use a 3? Thanks guys
A 3rl is used on guys with thicker skin, but generally just for one or a couple of sessions.
The reason being (I’ll use your words) “A single needle represents a hair follicle under the skin long term” while a 3rl (even 0403 smallest size) packs too much ink into a single impression. It can’t look as small long term versus a single needle.
The trick is more sessions and getting the skin healthy/optimized to retain the ink. 👌🏼
Yes. Totally agree. More sessions for a much better result. I have never completed a whole smp using only a 3. Like you said, I sometimes mix it up (only if necessary) through the sessions with the main star being the 1401

So, I was told by my instructor to buy the Willy Style 3RL 0.25 needs. It looks like a single needle. But now I’m a bit confused. I’m sorry, and I truly love all of you’re videos. Thank you guys so much.
Thank you for the comment. This is a major difference in what we do compared to almost everyone else.
A .25 mm 3 round liner (3rl) makes an enormous impression. The impression made from this needle is just as comparable to the size of a penny, if anyone would suggest this makes an impression the size of a real hair follicle.
What we use is a single needle. We can create impressions that compare to the actual size of a hair follicle.
For many reasons, our process is immensely different and is much more difficult to achieve.
Please focus on the healed impressions created from each art form and you will see a big difference.

When you mentioned "NO four clients a day", some folks might wonder why not as long as you only schedule two hours per client and see them for more sessions. I suspect it's due to the logistics of planning, prep, and clean-up between clients, but perhaps you may wish to expound?
The comment comes from guys we’ve seen, that have first gone to other “big” providers.
Our understanding is most companies spend 2-3 hours per session (and 2 sessions to complete result) utilizing impressions large enough to fill a Norwood 7 with no more than 500-1000 dots/impressions.... no chance any impressions will look like real hair stubble, the size comparison isn’t close 😳
@@scalp_logic Obviously, 2-3 hour sessions for only 2 sessions is ridiculous. What I was asking was why not 6 sessions (or thereabouts) for 2-3 hours each?

So when going with the 1RL what would be the best size to start with .20 .25 .30 cause I do fully agree with the 1RL giving a nicer finer results which can be built up on for a longer fresher constant look

We did say that a few mentions, I think up to 2 years ago.
Truth is, she utilized a 3rl way more than I, but she now uses a single almost exclusively like myself.

Hi, thank you and thanks for commenting.Check out SMP GC. We like the only the use of single needles. You’ll find there is nobody with our experience in Australia, but we highly suggest if you are liking for our kind of results, you only allow a single needle to be utilized.

Yes, very cool. Doing Subtle P or SMP is much different compared to body art tattooing, mainly the depth of insertion...makes it a completely different expression of the art form.
We use same setup you would for a small detailed finger tattoo ✌🏻
I am booked for my first session on May 6th. The practitioner said to me that a tattoo artist would need to train for SMP as the touch needs to be much lighter than when applying a tattoo as oppose to SMP treatment. Hope this helps in some way.

We use a single needle almost exclusively. It is I impossible to get such quality results using a 3rl in our opinion.
We use a few different black tattoo inks, but don’t promote/advocate any one in particular.

great vid i found when i trained i felt the impressions were far too big even with a 1rl the company told me that the 1rl 0.8 was the smallest needle but there must be smaller ? what size 1rl would you use for most natural hair follicle impression i’m guessing it’s less than 0.8
Hey how dark can you get the SMP before it begins to look fake? I understand it's best to come in for multiple sessions to layer on the pigment one session at a time..
We speak about this topic in our next video (coming in a few days) because this is such an important topic to understand.
The answer is in the visual. If one or more impressions either have a shadow, or one of the impressions is significantly larger than the circumference of a real hair, then it will look unnatural.
Now, how many of these “rules” can be broken is subjective. In other words, it’s based on personal opinions/desires/standards.
Our standard of Subtle Pigmentation is, if it doesn’t look as real as real hair, it’s flawed.
@@scalp_logic I have gone for 6 sessions from a very good artist, however it's not as dark/thick looking as I'd like it to be. It's very annoying how right after the treatment and looks amazing and then 3 days later it fades hard. I told him I wanted more of the darker look but so far it hasn't happened.

Hey guys, just a quick question, since smp is a single dot imitating real follicle, what difference does it make creating the dot following the direction of growth of the original hair? I mean who can one recreate the hair growth direction with ink? Thanks :)
This is a great question. Artists have tried in the past to create impressions (or mini hair strokes) to imitate the direction of hair growth.
The problem with that, is we are creating impressions to match a shaven down hair follicle. In other words, the hair can’t grow in any direction until it has some length to it. Again, we are creating hair follicles that are shaven down all the way.
To create a hair follicle with some length, it would look more like a mini line, instead of a dot. Because the ink sits 2D (under the skin) this attempt looks unrealistic to say the least,

I see great marketing and good work, but NO WAY that he is doing Subtle P. I see bigger dots, maybe some photoshopping 🤷🏻♂️. I’m not knocking his work, but look at Noir Smp in Australia…she is better than 99% of smp artists in the world (our opinion) and that definitely includes D black.

As far as artists in UK following our Subtle P, there are a few people doing it. We like to leave it up to consumers to make the call on what artist suits them best. Look for those healed results 😊

Both. Mostly making new impressions each time. Tiny minuscule buildup to reach full density :)
Hey guys quick question, i just got done with my 2nd session...first went well , then the 2nd they added density...about 5days later i noticed very faint circles about the size of a dime 4 of them in various parts...i googled it and its called migration or blotched...do you know what causes that?
That’s a great example of fresh vs healed results. What a result looks like freshly done, is a completely different result/story once it heals completely (1-2 weeks minimum).
Ink can spread, merge, fade, and there is a lot going on in the healing/curing process. That’s where the real result is revealed.
For these reasons we encourage consumers to study ONLY healed pictures and videos as all other forms of showcasing results is misleading/unknown.

@@ayokay123 You’re highlighting the importance (necessity) of skin health. We are the best at understanding and controlling such results.
The factors are 1. the depth of ink insertion (single needle is better for avoiding migration) and 2. The lifestyle choices/actions, examples are sun exposure, maintain skin health, medical health, prescription pills, drinking, exercise, etc.

Hi! No, we do not provide that information publicly, strictly for our mentees in training. We use a few different kinds for different reasons and there is a learning curve to understanding.

Hey hey. No blanket answer here as every situation requires a custom approach.
With that, no maximum time required. We have gents that wait 3-6 months, while most wait just 2-3 weeks after the second session.
I just had my first session of SMP and you can hardly see anything on my head. I know the second session adds density but I’m concerned that it is too light. Has anyone else experienced this feeling after the first session?

We have guys that complete all of it in one months time, and we also have guys that pause for months at a time in between sessions.
The entire process is customized depending on the most important variables in a given situation.
