I was born in 1969, so I was a teen in the 80's. The 80's were great times for music. I know every generation had their different genres of music. That being said, the 80's had SO many styles that you couldn't just like 1 style. Hell, even head bangers liked this music. The pop and electro-punk music was so incredible. a lot of people just refuse to give pop it's accolades. Pop in the 80's was much, much better than today's pop though. Great reaction, Biz! Much love❤✌
I think you nailed it ! So many different styles and most loved all of it ! There are so many bands from the 80s touring this year so make sure you go and relive the 80s in concert !!
*The headbangers did not like New Wave synth pop back then. They hated it because synthesizers dominated guitars.* I found a video on this very topic: ua-cam.com/video/SUQpiq-dHK8/v-deo.html
This is definitely a prime case of British New Wave, which had a sound that was somewhat different from American New Wave. The American bands were ones like the Cars, Missing Persons, Berlin and others, whose sound was a very straight melodic one, using mostly major chords as the basis for the melodies and choruses. This made their sound very friendly and radio-appealing, especially in the case of the Cars. British New Wave was somewhat more dissonant, using more minor chords and hanging minor notes. This style first appeared in the groundbreaking group Public Image Limited, and found its way into bands like Joy Division, New Order, the Smiths, and Siouxsie & the Banshees.
Yes - Space Age Love Song was their first hit before their mega hit I Ran. I love the earlier hits of several groups before their major hits - like Tears For Fears who had Change, as well as Pale Shelter, before their big hit album which featured Shout. Also - Simple Minds - before their big hit Don't you forget about me, they had the song Waterfront, which was amazing
actually loved this group back in the day . still like the music today ,but since then , i have so many favourites , theyre hard to remember after 57 years lol .🤣
Brilliant song, great band. There would be NO Strokes, Vampire Weekend or any of that throw away sh*t that's been made recently without 80's alternative music.
Speaking Of Samples,, This 1983 Classic Was So Popular That It Would Go On To Be Sampled By P.M.Dawn,, Warren G & Others,, Spandau Ballet "True" (HD Remastered Video)
It’s a tough call for me personally. Being 63 as a kid the 50’s hits and 60’s music were in the background of life. Early teens through age 20 70’s music was everything. But I’ve come to realize that the 80’s was the very best…. My 20’s….Everyone has the right that being said…. My friends to a person we were the generation that grew up with the very best music…. Please don’t hate out there…. Only an opinion…. My generation was blessed growing up with a lot of the music that is now reacted to on UTube…. ✌️😎🔥🎶
Slim Thug sampled it i believe..run the streets or sumn....Feel good music. Imagine cruising the highway to this or the strip at the beach...those feel good jams
There is a very unique cover version of this song which has a nice slow build up and is much different from this one - I like both versions and would be interested in seeing which one you like better. The other version is done by Hidden Citizens
Great song, kinda of one hit wonder, please check out Split Enz with I got you, they later morphed into crowded house songs like something so strong, don’t dream it’s over and the world where you live.
18 I think, but his parents had concerns that he was emotionally and mentally mature enough to handle a rock and roll lifestyle, and he was mature enough to come to that assessment himself, and he backed out. Phenomenal guitarist, and as far as I know, he eased into a happy career making music. The other band members were older than him by a number of years, and a lot more street savvy, and it might have made a difference if he were in a band with guys his own age. The singer and drummer are brothers, and they ended up having hard feelings between them, so I imagine that the guitarist's choice ended up being the right one, for a number of rock and roll reasons. I hope they're all happy, healthy, and talking to each other these days.
Paul was 17 when he joined the band. Was 19 when this song came out (the rest of the band was 5-6 years older than him). But he left the band in 1984 when he was 22 as he was physically and mentally exhausted from constantly touring/recording/partying. He n said on VH1 Bands Reunited that he realized he was too young for the rock & roll lifestyle. He was under so much stress/pressure from it all that he started drinking heavily to try to cope. His bandmates knew he was struggling and they did NOTHING to even try to help him. It got to the point he would break down and cry from exhaustion after shows, and all he got in response was "Grow up." He finally had enough and left, but the stress had gotten so bad it was making him physically sick and he ended up having a nervous breakdown.
@@OgreProgrammer They can get along as long as no one brings up past BS. Once that can of worms gets opened though.... yeah. Back in 2018, Frank (bass player) discovered he has a rare heart condition (and has a pacemaker/defibrator) . I did see he joined Mike on stage at a couple recent UK shows for a song though, which is cool. Paul sadly suffered a stroke in early 2020 and was in the hospital for awhile. But last I heard, he's been recovering/rehabbing and is doing better.
This is the Best #1 New Wave song Ever , I listen since 80' time they was at my country and this coming Sunday April 14 2024 they play at Disney Epcot and the 15 , hire a Super New Version put in high Vol ua-cam.com/video/mRf4efaErl4/v-deo.html
A Flock Of Seagulls were hot for about a minute and a half in the mid-to late 80's. I think they spent a lot of time with their hairdressers and stylists.
bobschenkel7921, They are their own hairdresser and stylist! Mike Score the lead singer is a hairdresser and owned his own salon in Liverpool England. They were also a lot more popular, for more than a minute. Something like 167 shows in a row in the U.S.A Huge in the UK. Lead guitarist Paul Reynolds was a renowned prodigy guitarist and one of the original innovators of this particular echo sound, still a kid around 17 or 18 here and had a breakdown from all the touring and travelling. Even 1 hit wonders, which they were not, are remembered for pure genius. Credit where credit is due.

This song is in the New Wave genre. Probably no one had seen anything like these guys before, giving them the unique factor.
This is so catchy and one of those songs that get into my head every now and then.
My freshman year at Rutgers, they were at the gym across the st from my dorm. I remember laying in my bed hearing 3 chords blasting
Guilty pleasure loving this song. 😂
Great reaction man. We jam to this song every weekend outside at our Man cave. Blastinggggggg
The song is about an *alien abduction!*
I'm not kidding... That's what it's about.
Space Age Love Song next please. I think you’d like Howard Jones, Joe Jackson, Psychedelic Furs, and Men At Work as well.

Awesome guitar here. This is new wave I like. Not too apathetic. And the guitar is fire!
Paul Reynolds (the guitarist) was only 19 when they recorded this song. And he was just 17 when he joined the band.
