I’ve read this chapter dozens of times but man I really love the Book of Acts and the story of how the Gospel traveled to the wider world. It’s just awesome.
Acts 17:11 ...examining the scriptures daily to see if these things were so. Good example for us to follow to see if what people are saying is true. Acts 17:21 ..spend their time in nothing except telling or hearing something new. Wow! What's old is new again! Does this hit home for me. Isn't this what social media is all about? Tara Leigh's comment of "Professional seekers looking for the latest trend to follow." Yep, that's social media nailed! Thank God for BR & TLC! This is my second year, but many things revealed to me that weren't before. God's mercies and words (revelation of) His Word are new every day? ❤
In Acts 17:28, Paul quotes Epimenides’ “Cretica,” reminding them that their own culture finds that whether we acknowledge it or ignore it, our daily lives are spent living and moving in the being, the identity, that God gives us. We fool ourselves and shut our eyes to the evidence of His mastery and common grace that abounds around us. Every plant, every fruit, every sunrise we see is His design to point us back to Him, the great artist and Creator.
We visited Athens a few years ago and I remember thinking the same thing! They worshipped so many idols! It was quite disturbing! We need to keep praying for those people!
Acts 17:25, ... "he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else." Acts 17:28, "in him we live and move and have our being." Everything comes from God, even our very existence. He created and sustains us.
Apostle Paul is my absolute favorite person in the New Testament! Once he encountered Jesus, he was forever changed and did not waiver in preaching the gospel wherever he went. Despite opposition, he continued to do God's work. His calling is our calling. I think of the song, "Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere. Go tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born!" Acts 17:30-31 ESV "The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead." Yes and Amen! The gospel is meant to shake things up and turn our lives upside down!
LOTS of things to pay attention to in Acts 17😊 In v2 and 3 Paul is “reasoning”and “explaining” and “proving” that Jesus is the Messiah to these Jews. There are also “God-fearing Greeks” in the assembly. They’d prepared their hearts to receive more specifics about Jesus so they were ready to respond in faith once they heard Paul. It says other Jews were jealous. Their hearts were hard. But it also says that the Bereans were of more noble character than the other Jews. This was before they were saved by faith in Christ. Their hearts were ready to receive the message “with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Then, “as a result (of examining Paul’s claims about Christ against the Hebrew Scriptures) “many of them believed” 😍 Paul continued to reason in the synagogue with the Jews and God-fearing Greeks, and anyone who happened to be in the marketplace - the truth about Christ was for all people. Then the best part- Paul in verse 27 tells us that God hopes all the nations will seek him and perhaps reach out to him and find him! (Though he is not far from any one of us). This means that not only is it possible for unsaved people to seek God, God actually desires that they do! And, in verse 30 of course, now that Jesus has been resurrected, God is commanding all people everywhere to repent. God is trustworthy, He doesn’t command people to do things they are unable to do. People are able and responsible. He’s “given proof” by raising Christ from the dead and everyone is responsible to repent and respond in faith so they can be saved. We know from 1 Timothy 2:3-5 that God does want everyone to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth, and that Christ gave himself for all people. What an awesome Savior!
Praise GOD for HIS servants who are doing the will of GOD
I love that you are preaching the truth, repent and believe. That message has been lost from the way we preach nowadays, thank you Tara Leigh
Amen 🙏
I love the phrase “upside down kingdom.”
My favorite chapter of Acts “in Him we live and move and have our being ! ❤ He is the Way the Truth and the Life ❤

Thank you for providing this info, Don. I couldn't find anywhere in my Bible that stated that was a quote from their culture.

Acts chapter 1:8 but ye shall receive power after the holy name is upon you
Men of Berea were more noble than those of Thessalonica because they searched the scriptures to see if what Paul & Silas were preaching was validated.
Love Paul’s letters✝️🙏

My question is why didn’t say Jesus? He doesn’t use His name where the power is.
❤
repenting is one of the most important things when it comes to truly believing
Amen!
I dont know what happened, but i think i got in to tomorrow's recap on here. I was so confused and i thought i missed a day. 😂
I did the same thing.😮
Me too
I did the same thing.
Same here!
Yes tomorrow’s is also up so that’s the confusion. It was up before today’s.
This interesting chapter shows Paul on the move staying ahead of the persecuting Jews. Every place he goes, he keeps sharing the gospel.

I love recalling Bible
