I really loved playing Summon Night 1 and 2 for the GBA. It was one of the games I would replay so many times just because I wanted to see the story and each interaction with each Summon. It's also a shame the main series has not many games translated
Such solid RPGs!
Both were great. Sadly underrated, tho.
Can't agree more. Also a shame the 3rd GBA game never got translated, because it was just as fun.
Maglam Lord is the closest thing we'll get to those, but it isn't really the same.
Pratty was my homie
remake?
I completely passed over the GBA era and was more focused on consoles. A few years in as the GBA was dying down I picked one up for super cheap with some great RPGs: Shining Force, Final Fantasy 1 & 4, FF Tactics, Fire Emblems, Golden Suns, Lunar. It definitely gets played when I'm on airplanes for long travel.
It’s a great little handheld!
The GBA version of Lunar is generally considered to be the worst "modern" version (although not bad, just the worst out of the available versions, still definitely a decent title) and the PS1 and PSP versions are considered to be the more defining ways to play the story. PSP emulation has no real heavy hardware requirements, so I would definitely recommend trying out that version if you liked the GBA one! The PS1 version is also good, and it was one of my favorite video games when I was still in single digits, along with Wild Arms and Legend of Legaia.
Thr first 2 Golden Sun games are definitely top tier RPGs. Sunk so many hours into them. The Advanced Wars Series ate up a lot of my time as well.
Lady Sia is such a gem, can’t believe it’s forgotten. That game gave hours and hours of fun 🤩
Really glad to see Lady Sia on the list! It was one of my favourite GBA games but I don't think I've ever seen anyone ever bring it up.
Same here man, deserves way more love!
I saw like two reviews of it. And they were not worth mentioning. I tried it and it’s a lot of fun
pokemon fire red, golden sun and The Lost Age, King of fighter EX 2, Advance wars,Fire Emblem sacred stones,Final Fantasy Tatics advance,Digimon Racing is my favourite all times when i was childhood. i still played on john emulator using andriod phones with remote controller 😂😂
Seeing "Lady Sia” in this video only confirms me how well made and thought of your work is man... Outstanding video as always!
Thanks Matheus!
Aww man... no Mech Platoon?! Such an ambitious game that played well! A super early GBA title with pre-rendered cutscenes and real-time strategy that handled quite nicely for a hand held!
Part 2 in the works 🙂
@@thatvideogamesshow Believe it or not, I just remembered that the guy who showed me Mech Platoon back in high school, went on to make music for the game Castle Crashers!
I already knew about all of these games. The GBA was my main console as a kid. Drill Dozer is my Childhood!!!
The GBA along with the PS1, PS2 and Nintendo DS have libraries that are not only huge but also many of their games were awesome. Even if just 20 or 30% of them are good, you still have AT LEAST 800 good games available in EACH of those consoles. Thanks for listing the forgotten gems of the Gameboy Advance. A large library with lots of great games. I liked the rectangular indigo console and even the SP how it was compact and had a clamshell design and (a nice screen at least for it's time).
So many great games!
Sabre Wolf was a fun game. I had a blast tricking the AI and causing the wolf to fall to its doom during the chase sequences. It was hilarious! 😂😂 Thanks for bringing back fun memories. Your videos are awesome. 👍
Haha glad you enjoyed the video man
2:55 I agree, the visual design is classis Rare and still looks like it holds up beautifully; Sabre Wulf even reminds me of DKC at times with its visual techniques
I would add Scurge into this list. One of the best things I had ever picked up. Never saw it be in the limelight.
6:49 Recommend buying Drill Dozer on Wii U, the rumple feature still works!
I was expecting to see summon night in this list, and i'm glad it's in there. It was one of my favorite games for GBA.
Thanks for the list, i didn't knew about most of them.
Glad you found something new!
I discovered a game 2 years ago called magical vacation. It got an english patch in 2016 and I love it. It fills me with childlike wonder
Thanks for the tip I’ll have to check it out!
Oriental Blue & recently both Full Metal alchemist got English patch
I don't know why Lady Sia reminds me of Scribblenauts as far as Art style goes, looks fun.
For sure looks really similar!
Back then, I heard rumors that Car Battle Joe was supposed to be a Mad Max game but they were unable to secure the license and had to "convert it" to an independent game. Honestly, never looked into that, maybe I will check.
The GBA IS THE BEST CONSOLE WITH THE BEST LIBRARY OF ALL TIME.
I grew up on NES and SNES. GBA is the best of those and a ton of original greats.
I love getting loose GBA games for real cheap, and just tying them out...looking for those gems. Great work on your video here!
Broo ive been trying to remember the name of AGH for so many years, im very glad you made this video
GT advance 3 was one game on GBA i absolutely loved. the drifting in that game was so satisfying but wasn't entirely super easy either. it was a good balance of challenging and satisfying to go corner to corner. good tracks and car selections as well ^^
Poor Starfy, still forgotten 😔
Nice, I suppose I'll list some of my choices for worthwhile GBA obscurities:
Tringo
Turbo Turtle Adventure
Scrabble Blast!
Gem Smashers
Tang Tang
Denki Blocks!
Drome Racers
The Tower SP
Egg Mania
Racing Gears Advance
Mech Platoon
Blender Bros.
Mr. Driller 2
Robopon 2: Ring Version
The Pinball of the Dead
Thanks for the suggestions! Will add some for part 2 🙂
Racing Gears Advance is a great hidden gem of GBA too. Nice list.
Thanks Fabio! I covered that game in a previous episode in the GBA. It’s great!
I've heard of Lady Sia. She loves cheap thrills and swinging from the chandelier. :)
Bomberman tournament, honestly hard at first, but has a lot of unique features and is one of my favorite bomberman games on the gba
Never knew Jet set radio was on gba!
Whoa. Jet Set Radio was one of my favorite games of all time. Had no idea there was a GBA version.
You know your GBA collection is doing good when you have many of the games raccommended by TVGS! 😁
I'm lucky to have Drill Dozer, all the CT games and Lady Sia
You have good taste!
Another great list and more to my list for when my Analogue Pocket arrives. You're doing the world a service with these videos, keep up the incredible work!
Thanks thatcriticvideo! Plenty more on the way 🙂
Thank you for making this kind of video, now I will play some of this game that i never have a chance to play at my childhood
Hope you enjoy them!
Those list are definitely worth trying out, loved those sprites ❤️❤️ please do more vid like this
More in the works 🙂
Love your channel,I literally use these Vida for recommendations on varied systems and your never wrong 👊👍
Thanks Simo, glad you find the videos useful!
Great timing, just got my GBA flash cart today and my Analogue Pocket should arrive in the next couple weeks!
Nice! Hope you found some new games to try out on the list 🙂
Heck yea. Love me some GBA. Thanks TVGS!
Thanks for watching mate!
i remember getting the rom for advance guardian heros and damn its such a solid game i highly recommend it!
I’ll second that. Such a good time!
Much respect for shouting out Lady Sia.
I always love going through these videos and noticing which games I already luckily own. In this case, the only one is Lady Sia (great game) though Drill Dozer is definitely a game I'll be downloading on my Wii U soon.
Fantastic video and there's a lot of cool games I shall have to keep an eye out for, from Kuru Kuru Kururin to CT Special Forces 2 and especially Summon Night Swordcraft Story 2.
Glad you enjoyed it Grin!
@@thatvideogamesshow Always do; your videos are well narrated and serve as a great guide for potential game purchases.
I appreciate all these deep dive picks for various platforms. Great channel, got my sub.
Thanks!
Most people won't know that Sabre Wulf is a series that originally goes back to the early home computers of the 80s.
Developed by Ultimate back before they were known as RARE, used to make games for the ZX Spectrum before the Stamper Bros sold off Ultimate to US Gold to therefore focus on the NES and become RARE.
The GBA game has nothing to do with the original ZX games, but it takes elements of the older games and tries to adapt the best parts to the classic RARE formula and it came off as being a mixed bag.
Certainly one of RARE's better GBA games outside of the remakes of Donkey Kong Country.
Always feels odd to see videos or lists of "Forgotten/Unheard/Unknown/Obscure games", and then I'm looking at them like "Oh, I know all these and played them".
I've recently been playing Snap Kids.
It's like if yugioh and pokemon snap had a kid.
The gameplay during battles is similar to yugioh but the way you get new cards is where the game shines. You have to look for monsters in their natural habitat and take pictures with a special camera. The camera then prints the picture, exactly as it is, as a card. The interesting part is that depending on what the monster was doing when you snapped the shot, the card will have different stats and skills. If you take a picture of the monster spitting acid, for instance, the card you get will have that ability.
But every monster is unique and you have to learn their habits and secrets to be able to snap strong cards.
The story also helps keep the game fresh. As you progress you'll get access to new areas with new monsters.
The battles can also be pretty hard.
All and all is a great game on the gba, but very few people know it in the west since it's a japan exclusive.
Never heard of that one! I’ll have to add it for part 2, thanks for the tip!
@@thatvideogamesshow u dont know well GBA...
Yep but most ppl dont know GBA well. Exclusive japanese games by exemple. I have play a lot intéressant games exclusives japanese
The Penny Racers series has a game called Road Trip Adventure on PS2 and I love that game so much. I hope to see it on a hidden PS2 gems video eventually!
Covered it already on a PS2 episode 🙂 awesome game!
@@thatvideogamesshow I probably saw it but forgot. Glad you appreciate it too!
JSR is not the only “new” game in the series. There was also JSF Future for the XBOX.
GBA Jet Set Radio released after Future.
These are all on my RG352, I’m playing drilldozer atm but there’s plenty for me to get stuck into! Great video thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Bro I've been trying for years to fund the name of the first game and thank God I found the name of it today 🙌 Advance guardian heroes!
summon night swordcraft story 2, one of the best GBA games I've ever played
I've been carrying around and playing Pinball of The Dead🧟♀️Very Fun!
Surprisingly I found Ecks versus Sever was enjoyable and has sweet graphics for the gba.🤣 I love that you included DrillDozer! It's criminal they never continued the series by now. With that rumble feature as you fight/solve puzzles it's not something you can fully experience emulating!🙌 😉
Also Gba:Pocky and Rocky with Becky! 👻 And Chu chu Rocket in your pocket.🐈🐭
Great suggestions Mario! Will have to include them for part 2 🙂
What games do I need to add to my want list today 😂 thanks for the great videos
Haha glad you enjoy them man!
11:36 "which would mark the only new game in the series to date" (refering to Jet Set Radio) .........um did you just completely forget that Jet Set Radio Future exists? the gba version of JSR was released on June 29th 2000 while JSRF released on February 22 2002...... almost two full years after this game. Always fact check before submitting a final response, otherwise solid video!
got a list of game sot add to my collection now thanks man
Anyone remembers a GBA game where you collect capsules using a capsule machine which has monsters inside it? I can't seem to find it.
Astroboy Omega Factor is the most underrated GBA game
I have the The first summon nights and enjoy it but I haven’t gotten far enough to figure out if I’m only going to one place or exploring more towns or somethin lol
Drill dozer deserves a remake or a rerelease
I’ll second that!
There's a lot of hidden gems here!
Very nice stuff!🫶🏿
Yoooooooo Car Battler Joe was epic! Literally never hear people talk about that one.
NEED to try Kuru Kuru Kururin at some point though, looks really fun (idk how I haven't yet tbh).
I’ll second that, one of the best games on the system!
I never even got around to even opening Summon Night 1 or 2. 👀
Some other games I might recommend that I don't see get mentioned often..
Blender Bros.
Bubble Bobble: Old & New
Gekido Advance
Gradius Galaxies
Iridion II
Klonoa 1 & 2
Konami Krazy Racers
Pinball of the Dead
Shaman King: Master of Spirits 1 & 2
Wade Hixton's Counter Punch
Thanks for the suggestions, will have to include some for part2!
You're welcome.
And don't let those Shaman King: Master of Spirits games fool you. Some of the best licensed games on the platform. Konami made them in the style of an 8-bit hack & slash game using their Castlevania Circle of the Moon engine.
Dang, I was kinda hoping there were games I'd never heard of.
I've been wanting a copy of Kuru Kuru for years but couldn't remember the name. Thanks!
Glad the video helped out man!
@@thatvideogamesshow fine list! When you got to Kuru, I was all Yes! That's the name! Doing a search for Japanese crazy spinning stick game wasn't helpful.
Great vid, very informative 🥲
Thanks mate!
Muy buen video,como de costumbre.Gracias
I did enjoy the topic and list, but I feel you didn't explain why the games are lost gems. The detailed history makes the experience of games just more better.
Very great and complitely collection, my respect bro SUPERLIKE FROM ITALY 🤜🤛👍
Thanks for watching Paolo!
The gameplay from Kuru Kuru Kururin was obviously borrowed for Roundabout... the game where you drive around in a rotating limousine driving passengers around. It's bonkers! It's a fun game, but the cutscenes are extra insane! I played it on the Vita, but I think it is on the PS4 too. I'm sure it is on other systems too.
Advanced Guardian Heroes was super awesome
my forgotten gba gem: Monster Force
Kurururururururrururrjrjjrjin was awesome props for calling it up I've never seen it mentioned on the same topic elsewhere
😅 such a good little puzzler!
It's sad that every time GameFreak makes something else, nobody really remembers.
I wonder if the GBA can match the Saturn in 2D games? The Saturn is the king of 2D, but the GBA looks like it can do just as much
So...uh...What's with using antialiasing to smooth edges on Summon Night 2, but nothing else? Seems you're pushing that.
Next GBA video you make, please include TMNT!
kuru kuru kururin got my family obsessed and competitive during a whole weekend. A great game I would include in my favorites of all time.
tired of all the videos of this sort that show off games everyone's already heard of a million times. that said, i never even knew a good chunk of these existed. great list!
5:14 If you liked this game, check out The Irritating Stick on the original Playstation. The gameplay is more or less the same, though the art style is different.
Were you using a graphic filter while recording footage?
Summon Night 2 is 110% worth your time.
Advance Guardian Heroes isn't a port it's a sequel
Lady Sia really looks like a pitch for a sidescrolling Zelda game (a la Zelda 2) where you play as Zelda instead of Link, and Nintendo declined. Glad they went ahead and did it anyway
when I asked a friend what games they recommended to play on GBA when I got a flashcart, the first recommendation from 4 people was Guardian Heroes Advance, is it forgotten? It's definitely good.
can you tell me what music you used at the very start of the video? i would like to listen to it in full haha
Jet set radio future exists, btw
Fully aware… the GBA version released after it.
@@thatvideogamesshow Ah, it sounded like you were saying the GBA was the only game in the series after the original, not the last new game in the series to come out. My apologies.
No worries, to be fair I should have worded it better in the script.
Good information!!
Glad you found it helpful!
I'm actually having a pain in the neck about probably the most obscure GBA game I've ever played: Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis. I found it via Neoseeker. It's emulator only for me, but I'm having a blast.
The problem is this: I'm wanting to turn a Fairy into an Angel Knight. I can get the Archangel's Feather Emblem, but nothing I've found says whether I can Transmigrate a Fairy. I know Fairies can't class swap, but can they Transmigrate since that's separate? Btw, her name's Navi. Yes, i personally liked that annoying/helpful fairy from Ocarina of Time. Just needs a bit of a volume adjustment.
you need more megadrive lists.
In the works! 🙂
I haven’t forgotten but seems like some have would be the legacy of goku games
I played Gadget Racers to death. It was every bit as fun as it's PS2 big brother.
Klonoa 1 & 2 is dope
Yes!
CT Special Forces series were great
Amazuing list!
Thanks dark lord!
@@thatvideogamesshow now do DS & 3DS ones, please?
Already done, search them up on the channel 🙂
Not as amazing as Google offering me the option to translate this comment to English.
@@GamerbyDesign hahahaha
I missed out on Summon Night 2
Imagine if the GB CoD was like Special Forces lol
reasonably forgotten
I spent many nights on family vacations growing up completing Advance Guardian Heroes then having free for alls. Super fun but completely forgettable lol.
So, what is the best beat-em-up on the GBA? Just curious.
Harvest moon - Friends of mineral Town
I'm really curious about the music used in the beginning of the video, anyone knows what it is?
Do you onow a game where 3 children explore various places? Girl 1 has the ability to blow gum and has pink hair, girl 2 has the ability to slide in low placesand has black hair and a boy who uses a yoyo. Said there was a certain level where the explore the technology era
It wasn't earthbound
(Copied from another vid was curious too)
i like playing penny racer, its like chibi car
Such a good little racer!
@Sky: It's the same series, just named different here in the West.
Wow such gems👏🏽
Glad you enjoyed the video!
