    There’s one VERY important aspect of Batman’s “no killing” rule that I think gets overlooked too often. I’m not familiar with Batman in the comics, but in The Animated Series (which cemented Kevin Conroy as THE voice of Batman in animated media), Batman had a huge desire to help the criminals he fought.
    His refusal to kill wasn’t born out of some hidden terror that he couldn’t stop himself from more killing once he’d started. He genuinely felt that even the most insane criminals could be reformed, and he fought like hell to make it happen. He was more like a parent spanking a naughty child in TAS. And that unconditional compassion for even the lowest street thug, that he would ALWAYS guarantee these people another chance to turn their lives around and become decent, productive individuals.

      Look at alot of the episodes with Two Face. Harvey Dent was Bruce's friend, he wants to help him and get his friend back. He even hired the Ventriloquist to work at his office in one episode. Another had a former thug Batman had beaten up working at one of his places.

      Like how Fidel Luz said, this just goes to show how Superman started dealing in absolutes in ways that weren't justified. There were ways for Superman to go about this which would've made him both understandable and justified, and to be fair, some thieves really don't have the high ground over rapists and murderers to the point where even if the crimes aren't always comparable, they're not better either, so it was only understandable, even for Batman, why Supes went down this road, but it led to the worst case scenario that should've been avoided.

Mass murderers, war criminals, etc. I don't dispute such individuals are an evil to be done away with. But, once you've burned through all the easy calls, where does it end? Where is the line on who deserves to die and who doesn't? And how do you trust yourself to know where that line is? It's a practical mind set. The killing will never stop because crime never stops. Obviously it's not a 1 man show so once all the real nasty people are eliminated then you'll have a bunch of lackies who need to justify their jobs. So in order to keep their jobs the lackies will kill people for more petty crimes over time, maybe not for leaving gum wrappers on the street, but criminals who certainly could be reformed with the Swedish prison system and not executions.
      People like Ace who died in Batman's arms would have been executed by Superman.
      Today we don't need the Death Penalty. We've built a Prison known as ADX, terrorist who wouldn't hesitate to release chemical weapons in a tokyo subway station or fly a jumbo jet into a sky scraper have attempted suicide in that prison.
      The inmates aren't tortured physically, but are simply put in a isolation ward for life and are in a prison full of inmates who don't care about their terrorist organization's cause so these terrorist regret what they did & wish they had a normal 8-5 job.
      Plenty of harden criminals got out of the ADX prison and essentially always drive within the speed limits because they don't want to go back to prison.

      It won’t always be easy, but killing really isn’t ever the right choice, unless you’re in a battle to death. People can change overnight, and some people might take decades to change, it’s partly a matter of how they are treated, or how willing they are to hurt others. But it’s not something us humans can easily predict and tell. That’s a part of the reason why we shouldn’t kill, because people can change and feel sorry in an instant, and we wouldn’t know because they’re murdered.

      There are many states that have forbidden the death penalty though. More states than not. Granted, nuking an American city would likely be considered a federal-level crime for which the perpetrator would almost certainly be executed (like with the Oklahoma city bombing). But if we're just talking about Joker's normal crimes, it's totally feasible that he could continually dodge execution. The federal government only executes people under _very_ dire circumstances.

I'm not rendering judgement on the system, just explaining how it works.

    • @DrPhoenixJKZ
      @DrPhoenixJKZ 2 роки тому +1

      And that is what Joker is. And even if you put him in prison, he will get out very soon.
      So, does this mean in real life, the fedral government will do nothing to someone like Joker, until he destorys a whole city, and be ready to destroy another one and make new addition to his criminal group?

    • @DrPhoenixJKZ
      @DrPhoenixJKZ 2 роки тому

      Just think about this: A person is not just himself, but someone precious to his family and friends. That is why nothing makes up for people's life, no matter how many.
      Many heavy crimanl group leaders are even able to manipulate governments. If such people are not executed after serial killing, even if they do not kill anymore, they have one or another way to destroy people's life.
      Even if it is not national scale, it is fairly terrible enough.

    On the other hand... Batman also is aware of his own psychotic capabilities so refuses to kill simply so those never get out. That's why he comes down so hard on Superman: he KNOWS it's easy to let the grief and rage take him. But is the world that's created really any better? The problem with Superman’s ideology, is that yes the battle will never end. But crime can’t be ended. Where there is good, there will always be evil. Even if the world was put under Superman’s rule as a dictatorship, there would be crimes against his corrupt rule, and people would no longer fear criminals, but rather the justice league. As for Batman, his views are too black and white, he fails to see the grey in some situations. Most likely, there is a dark universe where Batman goes down an evil path after the death of his son, and Gotham’s destruction- like with Clark.

      That's...actually the subject of the Dark Multiverse and the story arc of Dark Knights: Metal. The Dark Knights are evil versions of Batman corresponding to different members of the Justice League who hail from the Dark Multiverse, worlds that are doomed to be destroyed.

    Hey, the traumatic brain injury thing is not fair... it's obviously done for cinematic action and should be taken with a grain of salt...
    How many things that'd make ordinary humans go splat have we seen in these comics that ordinary humans survive with little harm???

    So I assume that in order to be Robin at this point, Damian would have had to train under Bruce for a while now, right? But he still hasn't gotten the "No Killing" rule drilled into his brain yet? To the point where he asks Batman "isn't killing a good thing, though? :)" like he's never heard of Batman's immovable moral code.
