With the champions cup, before much Money were involved [champions league]we had winners like Feyenord and finalists like Celtic.....Today this competion its for 4-5 teams max.....Back in those days soccer was -healthier-and more interesting.....
It was also more respectful and you didn't see players rolling around every time they're fouled. I feel that element of the game is sorely missing nowadays.
Well the 70s saw 3 Ajax wins, 3 Bayern Munich wins and 2 Liverpool wins. Already showed the seperation of smaller cities of Europe were not competitive while the big cities ruled.
Feyenoord and Celtic are very big clubs deprived of the TV income money that other clubs are currently getting, this is unfair. There needs to be wage/salary cap across Europe to make the game truly competitive again. There is no natural reason why, say, Real Madrid should be allowed to always sign the best players - it's ludicrous when you think about it.
Why is it unfair? It's market forces. People pay to watch the big clubs. The only reason celtic keep winning the Scottish title is because they get far more money than Ross County, Livingston, St Mirren and the rest. You never complain about that though do you?
1. The system works in the USA because they have franchises who are a part of a closed league system. Only the exact same 32 cities can compete, no place for more obscure teams. About 5-8 teams have a great chance to win the title, about 16 teams have not a realistic chance at all. What is Real Madrid here are the Patriots in the USA in Football. 2. Here in Europe we have a law that you can work wherever you want. Something like „sorry, you can not play in Barcelona because the club is to good and you are a too good player“ is not working. 3. Capitalism rules. Every club is free to play on the free capital market, attract sponsors, sale merchanside, tickets, club musem, website membership... and build a team on the standard they can afford. Why should the Real Madrid brand should be limited to what a top30 team in Europe can gross in revenue, not fair.
What stops you from spotting talents and signing them before the competition? Porto won in 2004 with that system. It's still possible to do it but you need the right people around you!
the rise of Dutch football, Ajax were runners up the previous final in 1969, after Feyenoord had won this final ,Ajax won the next three finals in 71,72 and 73, the Dutch became a force in international football , World Cup runners up in 74 and 78, unlucky on both occasions
I danced to that song for a long time in the clubs of Barcelona in the 90s and I was in that stadium at the 1991 Barcelona Manchester Cup Winners' Cup final.
The first European Cup Final I remember watching, and from the days when you knew where you could watch it without having to hunt around or worry about temperamental connections.
Nonsense! Professional football has always been about money. Celtic had more money than their rivals like Stirling and partick Thistle, that's why they kept winning the Scottish title.
What would have happened if Feyenoord hadn't scored the 117th minute winner? Replayed match or coin toss? (Peanlties only came in the following season)

@@asensibleyoungman2978 quite right, it would be much worse to have the best players playing for the bad teams and getting less pay

@@UpcdtdS I forgot I even made this comment your the tramp if you think ajax aren’t huns
Happy anniversary Feyenoord from a Celtic fan who was 6 years old on that day. A time when money and over paid players were not in play.

@@asensibleyoungman2978 he means it was all local boys and not 200 mil signings from players all across the world
@@haydnoakes8606 Clubs didn't sign players from around the world back then.
@@asensibleyoungman2978 that’s what he’s talking about?
@@haydnoakes8606 So it was nothing special back then. It was the norm.
Very good team thank you for Wim Jansen Dutch brothers
0-1 Tommy Gemmell (29 min)
1-1 Rinus Israël (31 min)
2-1 Ove Kindvall (117 min)
2:28 total voetbal was Feyenoord invention not Ajax
1:24 that goal was a beauty
As a Celtic, I think Feyenoord deserved this well earned victory 🍀
1:14 the ref totally screened the goalkeeper 😂🍀

Best Wishes to them. They beat us fair and square.
Celtic could of won two European cups

My team is Celtic but well done Feyenoord you deserved to win that night. Respect!
What about the Celtic 'Offside' goal. Why miss this out?
