Bygones Weekend returned for 2024, a celebration of the lines rich cultural heritage from throughout the years.
2023 built Double Fairlie James Spooner was on the days slate trains. These were taken up to Power Station Summit (morning combined run of empties and loaded wagons) and Dduallt (with the loaded slates) and return down by gravity.
Merddin Emrys look the Victorian train (including the freshly repainted Curly Roof Van) for the day, which on two of its runs included Spooners Boat, which is seen on its gravity return to Port approaching Plas Halt.
Linda was recreating the days of 1960s with the Y Cymro headboard and the green and cream set, with Lyd on the 1930s Train (The Colonel Stephens set).
Quarry Hunslet Britomart is captured on a short freight train approaching Rhiw Goch in the rain towards the end of the event.
David Lloyd George was in operation on the days service trains to Blaenau Ffestiniog and the pioneering K1 Garratt was in use on a Diamond Jubilee Supporters Special on the Welsh Highland. The K1 is seen returning the days 60s train to Boston Lodge with James Spooner on the rear (which had returned with Linda after dropping off the afternoon slate waggons at the spiral). Linda took the Supporters Special onto Minffordd (as the K1 doesn't fit past Boston Lodge).
Also in action was Palmerston, freshly returned from the Vale of Rheidol Railway and Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, although the steam locomotive had some issues on the Saturday night and was kept down the Porthmadog end of the line during the Sunday, skipping its booked goods trip to Dduallt, which would of seen a mixed train as far as the spiral, were the Small England would of returned the slate empties along with its own waggons back to Porthmadog.
