I went to this gig as well. It was on a Friday night, and I went after school with my sister. I was 16. It was so exciting. There were daffodils all over the stage. And it was SO loud. I remember John Peel the following week talking about this gig saying that the band had to get up really early that morning to go to the flower market to buy all the flowers, but that soon they'd be so big that they'd be able to get people to go there and buy them for them!
I was there at the Pale Saints show at the ULU (on Thursday 8 March 1990). Ride were the secret support. I remember being stood behind a load of Japanese girls, and at the end of the show Mark Gardener saying "see you tomorrow" cuz they were doing a headline show the next day at the Quad at the LSE. I can't remember about The Boo Radleys though. Oh, and I bought the poster for the show from the t-shirt stall (but sold it on eBay a few years ago!)
Amazing to see this - I used to work with Steve Q (and Dave Newton, their Manager) before Ride took off and got into the early gigs on the guest list - this one included (although failed to take any daffs). Was an amazing night - they had so much raw energy.
saw them around the same time tho in Aylesbury.....road ten miles on our mountain bikes to get my mate a ticket as already had mine. bumped into mark and steve as we walked to oven ready records when we finally made into the town! great gig no support tho!
I was there! And Aylesbury Civic Centre the following day, then Salisbury Arts Centre. We did Brighton Zap club, Bristol Bierkeller, Windsor Old Trout, Bournemouth Academy, Birmingham Irish Centre. Oxford, I think that was the town hall. Happy days!
I was there too! This was such a great time for music and ULU was a great venue to see bands like Ride, Lush, Slowdive etc....This brings back a lot of happy memories :)
Anyone know the title of this intro music? Remember this being used at every gig back in the late 80s, early 90s. - Jericho Tavern, Ox Poly, Cowley Road etc..
Ah, Andy Bell, The Kurt Ralske years :-> Think I saw them in Sheffield in 1990. Remember thinking how good the Querault and Colbert rhythm section was. And they missed their cue on Seagull that night too!
@HeavySabre70 It's not a term meant to diss the band. Shoegaze bands are called shoegaze bands because they're constantly looking down at the many guitar pedals they have to operate.
Does anyone know if this was there fan-club gig? I went to a gig in ulu around that time to see them? was the worst ferry crossing of my life... across the Irish Sea!
nossa, eles eram muito jovens mas as musicas são mto boas, principalmente do album "Carnival of Light" Meu o Mark ta usando uma JAGUAR!! é a minha guita favorita

Why this was never a single, I don't know. My favorite Ride song, and one of my favorite "Shoe Gaze" songs of all time. Just classic.
If this song were released in 1969, just when mankind reaches the moon floor, another story would be telling now... Ride's best song ever.
My favourite indie track of all time! Leaves me breathless in a way only Sigur Rós can do today.
No doubt. Drummer myself and when I heard Loz on Nowhere it changed how I thought about drumming forever...
ONE OF RIDE'S best songs ever!
Holy shit they reformed. I'm going to have a coronary.

One of my first 'proper' gigs - amazing, I was captivated and sold. Roll on Roundhouse and Field Day- will be wonderful
Loz does rule. Just saw him with Jesus and Mary Chain. Best surprise I've had in a long time!

Awesome live band, seen them in the late 90s
One of the best shoe gazers of all time. They faded really hard at the end unfortunately.
Yes heavysabre. You can be huge fan and still call the genre as shoe gazers.

@HeavySabre70 Well said, no worse than the term Britpop or use of the word Punk to describe bands post '78
i mean 80s :)
